Chapter 6: What is a shadow fire hound?

Kagome stood before her target and concentrated her miko ki into her bow and arrows. She opened her now purple glowing eyes and let the arrow go. It zoomed down the clearing growing brighter and brighter until it hit its target, an old tree. The backlash came rushing down the clearing at the young miko blowing debris and dirt at her. She stood her ground as she stopped glowing and looked at the area where there once was a tree.

“Whoa.” Kagome said. Someone landed next to her.

“You have gotten a lot better, Kags.” The demoness said to her. Kagome looked at Raven and gave a small smile of thanks. She asked Raven to stay in her demon/humanoid form while they were in the Feudal Era. It was odd that now only one cheek held the three blood red stripes while the other still held her scars.

“Thank you, Raye.” Kagome put her bow and arrows away.

“What for?” Raven asked. Kagome narrowed her eyes.

“You know what I mean!” she waves her hand towards the once tree. “For training me and for just being a friend.” Raven smiled and Kagome noticed it was a genuine one too.

“Your training is almost done, Kags.” Raven looked up at the sky. “Then you will no more use for me.”

“Do you have to go?” Kagome asked.

“I don't know.”

“I understand.” Kagome watched as Raven left the clearing, her tail twitching after her. It had only been a month since Raven started training her. She didn't think all this would go by so quick.

Yuske grumbled as he stood on the shrine grounds for what seemed like the billionth time.

“Stupid chick….missing for a month….doesn't show up…have to stand around here…”

“Talking to yourself?” Kurama stepped up next to the young detective.

“Fuck off, Kurama. I know you are sick of this just as much as the rest of us.” Yuske snapped at the red-head. Kurama shugged his shoulders, not about to tell Yuske his other half of the mission.

`I am beginning to think Koenma is leading us on about that demon.' Ah, speaking of other halves.

“Now Youko, we have no reason not to think there is one.”

`Whatever you say, Red.'

Raven sat beneath a tree watching Kagome play with Shippo. It was amazing that after only a month she had grown attached to everyone here. Hell, she bet she'd miss that damn puppy of a Demon Lord, Sesshomaru.

“Raven?” Sango sat down next to the demoness and began polishing her Hiraikotsu.

“What can I do for you, Sango?” Raven looked over to the taijiya.

“About Kagome's gifts?” she gave a shy glance to said person to make sure she didn't hear. Raven smirked.

“She is still clueless. They are almost complete; I will be getting them from Makai when we return.” Sango nodded her head.

“Do you think it wise to put yourself in danger because of that?” Sango stopped her polishing and looked at the demoness.

“I would do anything for either of you, Sango, you know that. Kags needs a blade that can handle her miko ki and a taijiya outfit made of the best material available against demons.”

“What's it like? Being the last of your kind?” Sango blurted. “I am sorry, Raye. I didn't mean to ask that.”

“No, its okay. I don't mind. I think it would do me good to get if off my chest.”

“Get what off your chest, Raye?” Kagome walked over with Shippo in her arms. Raven smiled at the kitsune kit and he jumped in her lap.

“I think a story is in order.” Raven winced as the kitsune kit gave squeal of delight.

“A story, Lady Raven?” Miroku said as he appeared with Inu Yasha trailing behind.

“Feh.” Inu Yasha mumbled as he jumped in the tree above Raven. He wasn't stupid, this was going to be good.

“Okay, now where to begin…” Raven tapped her chin in thought. “I was abused by father since as far back as I can remember. My mother didn't make it that far past my birth leaving me alone with him. He was violent, even for a demon and I often seeked refugee with a nearby village miko. These marks…” she touched the cheek with the claw marks, “are all I have left from him. They shouldn't have scared but the poison from his claws insured it would along with many more upon my body.”

“I am so sorry, Raven.” Kagome said sadly.

“Don't be, Kags. All this made me what I am today. I was partially trained by the village miko until my father found out. He took me away where we joined a group of bandits. There I was brutally trained to kill and steal. It was a life I despised and wanted to escape from. I was alone until I met a fire apparition.”

“Really? A fire apparition?” Sango asked.

“Yea, his name was Hiei. We trained together must of the time and formed a friendship. He was older than me so he looked out for me when my father went on his rampages. Both of us waited for the day we could escape the group but they kept an eye on us, as if they knew what we were planning to do. My father soon noticed the attachment between the two of us and all hell broke loose. He beat me senseless while the others made Hiei watch. I could feel his anger rising which each blow they dealt me.” Raven voice started to take a harsh tone and her hands began to shake.

“Raven, you can stop.” Kagome said, placing her hand on Raven's. They were cold and she could feel her sweat. Raven's eyes were unseeing as if she was reliving what she was telling.

“No, you need to understand what I am. Shadow fire hounds where not only feared because of their holy powers but for their tempers. Once driven into the bloodlust nothing can stop them, they continue killing and killing until something destroys them. I trained myself to stay away from my inner beast and then trained myself to control it so I didn't become like my own kind, the reason why we are feared.”

“Feh, weaklings.” Inu Yasha muttered. Raven hung her head.

“Inu Yasha!” Kagome gasped. “How could you say that?” He didn't answer. He looked down upon Raven's bowed head with something in his eyes. Is that understanding I'm seeing? Kagome asked herself. Of course, he knows what it's like to lose control. It happens when his demonic blood is released.

“My father went into a bloodlust that day.” Raven's pain filled voice shot across the clearing. Everyone looked to see tears of blood run down her cheeks, making her scars look as if they were fresh wounds. “He raped me. Then the others took their turns with me.” Sango gasped. An unmated demoness who wasn't pure was something that drew a lot of unwanted attention. Raven being what she was made her a very lethal combination.

“How did you survive?” Sango whispered, her own tears running down her cheeks.

“I didn't.” Raven said quietly.

“Nani? How is that possible?” Kagome asked, wiping away her tears.

“Hiei went into a demonic rage when they started raping me. He slaughtered all of them. The fight was gruesome and bloody. I could only watch from my place of the ground, I couldn't move my body with all the pain. I couldn't even heal myself, my mind was shattered. The next thing I knew, Hiei was beside me pushing my bloody hair from my eyes. I knew I wasn't going to survive and even if I did, who would want me? I…” Raven stumbled, “I…I asked him to finish it.”

“Nani?!” came her response from the group. Inu Yasha jumped from the branch above her and grabbed her chin to make her look at him

“Raven,” he said softly. “Please tell me he told you no.” Raven's eyes grew cold and she jerked herself away from his touch.

“Honor is something he taught me when I was younger. I wanted to die with what honor I had left. It was my last request and he…he respected it.” She unbuttoned her shirt some and pulled it to the side. There, where her heart was, was a silver scar inflicted from a blade. Kagome ran her finger over the scar and gasped when images flashed through her mind, a demon with dark hair and a nasty temper, another demon with gravity defying black hair and sincere crimson eyes.

“Raven.” Kagome whispered. She looked at the girl wearily before launching herself into the young demoness' arms.
“The next thing I remember is Midriko. She had plans for me, plans that involved her reincarnation. I agreed to train this young miko with everything I was made of.”

“N-nani” Kagome asked.

“You are the reincarnation of Midriko, Kags, not Kikyou.” Everyone was silent at Raven's revelation. Kagome looked at Raven, her blue eyes wide with unshed tears. “You know its true, Kags. You've always known. The fact you two look somewhat similar is just coincidence.”

“Thank you.” Kagome whispered.

“Anything for you, sis.” Raven hugged the young miko.

One week later, Raven and Kagome stood beside the well. Raven shifted her backpack around while waiting for Kagome to stop sitting Inu Yasha. Seems he was a little too anxious for both of them to come back.

“Inu Yasha, I said a week!” Kagome snapped.

“Three days, wench!” he snapped back.

“Sit! Do make me get Raven to spar with you!” Kagome said. Inu Yasha's ears plastered to his head from the crater on the ground. Raven snickered. She walked over and kneeled by the crater known as said hanyou.

“I will bring you back a treat, puppy. Only if you let her stay a week.” Raven whispered. Inu Yasha's ears perked.

“Feh, whatever.” He grumbled and got up to leap onto a branch. Kagome raised her eyebrow is suspicion but Raven waved it off. Both leapt into the well to be surrounded by the familiar blue light.

Yuske and Kuwabara were fighting as the well house started to emit a faint tint of blue. Hiei leapt from her spot from a tree at the first hint of magic. Kurama pulled the two brawling detectives apart and all stared at the well house.

“Ow! Kags, did I teach you nothing? JUMP!” a female voice snapped.

“Alright, alright! I heard you! I'm jumping already, sheesh.” Another female voice answered. The slight smell of ki filtered to the hidden watchers as the well house door opened. A young girl dressed in jeans and a form fitting blue top stepped out. Her raven black tresses blew gently in her face as she dropped a yellow pack on the ground. On her hip was a katana and on her back was a bow. “Finally, it's good to be home.”

“Kags! I swear, who gave Sango the bright idea for me to learn hiraikotsu?!” the other female voice drifted from the well house. The raven haired girl turned back to the well house and stifled a laugh. Suddenly a large boomerang came flying from within. The girl easily dodges and watched as it landed near the shrine.

“I hope you were intentionally hoping for it not to comeback, cause if not, I am so telling Sango.” The girl stuck out her tongue. Growling came from the well house.

“Shit, I sense a demon in there.” Yuske whispered. Kurama and Hiei stiffened. It seems there assignment was in the well house. At Yuske's remark a young girl strode out of the well house. She stood about the same height as the raven haired girl with long dark hair with red tips. Pointed ears peaked from her hair while upon her back was two blades. Her dusted off her own pair of blue jeans and something fluffy around her waist. That's a tail. Yuske thought. The long black tail came loose and fell to the ground. The demon…no demoness took off the blades and they disappeared from her hands.

“I guess my family did decide to leave town to visit my Aunt.” The raven haired girl sighed but perked up again. “Can you stay with me? Please, Raye?” the demoness shifted around, suddenly uneasy.

“I suppose Kags. I don't like the idea of leaving you here alone for a week.” The demoness sighed. She went over and picked up the boomerang thing and then let it fly again, this time towards the spirit detectives.

“Scatter!” Yuske yelled at the boomerang came towards them. It swirled above them before coming back to the demoness. She caught it with ease and was scooted back several feet from the force of the weapon. Yuske looked up from his spot on the ground to find the point of a very sharp katana is his face. The raven haired girl frowned at him.

“Yuske?” she asked. He looked at her a moment longer before it dawned on him

“Kagome?” the blue eyed girl use to hang with Keiko. He wondered why it didn't dawn on him when they got the mission.

“What are you doing here?” she asked, the katana suddenly disappearing from her hand.

“I should ask you why you have a demon with you.” Yuske answered, dusting himself off as he stood up.

“Only if I ask you how you became a hanyou.” Kagome smirked. Yuske's jaw dropped. “That's a good way to catch flies.” Kagome tapped his chin and he closed it with a snap.

“Who did…you…know…” he stuttered.

“I'm a miko. It's what I do.” Kagome shrugged. A hiss came from behind her and she turned to see a red head fighting Raven. He was using some sort of plant whip and well Raven was easily avoiding it she was also going against a black blur with a katana.

“Kags!” she shouted. Kagome put her hands in front of herself and they began to glow purple.

“Ah, Kagome…what are you doing?” Yuske looked wearily at her; he didn't like what he was feeling.

“Don't worry, Yuske. I won't hurt them…bad.” She answered as two beams of purple shot from her hands. Each hit Kurama and Hiei sending them flying in separate directions. Raven breathed a sigh of relief. She was exhausted from being in the Feudal Era and was not back at her full strength. Not to mention that other demon had a Jagan and was trying to tear down her mental barriers making it extremely difficult to focus. For the first time Yuske got a good look at the demoness. She had dark eyes and three blood red stripes on one cheek and what looked like claw scars on the other. A black diamond jewel sat on her forehead. Kuwabara noticed as well because he now knelt before said demoness asking her to be his girlfriend. She snatched her hand from him and dealt him a quick blow to the head knocking him out.

“Gah, he's almost bad as Puppy. Sheesh, for a moment there I thought he was going to start kissing my hand.” The demoness looked at the offending object as if contemplating if she should cut if off. Kagome laughed.

“Ah, poor Raven. You know now that Sesshomaru only does it to piss you off.” Kagome laughed as the demoness, now identified as Raven grumbled. Kurama came up to Yuske.

“You know this miko, Yuske?” he asked.

“Yea, I've known her for years. Kagome is this Kurama. Kurama, this is Kagome.”

“Nice to meet you.” Kurama bowed to Kagome. She blushed but bowed also.

“The baka over there is Kuwabara.” Yuske pointed to the carrot top man currently sprawled on the ground before Raven while she nudged him with her foot. “That,” he pointed to the demon who suddenly appeared next to her, “is Hiei.” Kagome looked over and her breath caught in her throat. It was the same demon from her vision!

“You!” Kagome hissed. Hiei growled.

“What do you want, onna.” He snapped. Kagome bristled. Her miko ki began to climb dangerously around her sending purple and blue sparks around the group.

“I should purify your ass where you stand!” Kagome snapped glowing brighter as to accomplish said task.

“What the hell did you do to her?!” Yuske demanded, trying to dodge the flying sparks of miko ki.

“Hn, how should I know, detective?” Hiei snapped. Tears ran down Kagome's cheeks as she shook her head.

“How could you?” She whispered. “How could you kill her?” Hiei stiffened. What the hell? He thought.

“What are you talking about, onna?” Hiei demanded.

“You killed her. After what her father did to her, you went ahead and finished it.” Kagome hissed so only he could hear. His eyes narrowed as he pulled his katana and put it at her thoart.

“Explain yourself.” He demanded. Kagome looked at him, her eyes held sadness instead of the fear he wanted to see. “How do you know about that?!” Yuske and the others were shocked into silence having never seen their fellow team mate show so much emotion.

“Kags! What the hell is going on!” the forgotten demoness rushes over to the miko. Kagome turns deathly pale and eludes Hiei's katana.

“Leave! I won't let you hurt her again!” Kagome growled at him.

“Hn, onna, you don't tell me what to do.” He sheathed his katana and crossed his arms over his chest. Kagome's eyes narrow as she moves to reveal a demoness.

It was like someone had grabbed his heart and was squeezing it. There stood his childhood friend only older. He would have thought it all to be a trick if it wasn't for the claw mark scars on her cheek. She stiffened as she caught sight of him. He could smell her fear and…curiosity?

“Hiei?” she whispered. Her button down white shirt was a little rumpled from the fight and he could now clearly see the silver scar inflicted by his katana.

`You're suppose to be dead.' His voice rang through her mind.

`No, I was.” She shook her head. She picked up her things and went inside. Kagome watched her go before she rounded on Hiei and pointed a deadly finger at him.

“Stay away, got that?” she hissed before following.

“I don't remember Kagome being so hot-tempered…or scary.” Yuske shivered. Kurama looked at Hiei who was watching the retreating demoness.

`Do you know her, Hiei?' Kurama asked.

`Hn, none of your business, fox.'

`Whose the demoness?' Youko watched the demoness, particularly the twitching tail.

`I do not know, but Hiei does.'

`She's…' Youko pauses as the demoness waits for Kagome and they both go inside followed by Yuske dragging Kuwabara.

`What were you about to say, fox?' Hiei snapped in their mind. Youko continues to watch the demoness.

`I was going to say she's good enough to eat.' Youko whines as she went inside.

`Youko!' Kurama hissed at him

`What? Come on, Red. You can't tell me that she is not tempting!'

`You know that's not what I mean.'

`Follow her!' Youko snapped. Kurama sighed and started towards the shrine. He stopped to look for Hiei who already was gone.

HA! Done another one! Whoa! That one was hard! Sorry if some characters seem OOC. This is not easy!
