It had been three days since Kurama had watched InuYasha and Kagome in the field that night. Every day he would return to the tree midday and wait to see if the miko would show up. In those three days Kurama learned that Kagome's companions also included a taijiya, a houshi, a fire neko, and most interestingly, a kitsune kit. The last one intrigued him the most. This miko had a hanyou as a mate and took care of a kit. He was determined to find out more about her.
As Kurama sat in his tree he saw the girl coming into the field again. This time she was alone carrying her basket again and she was picking flowers. Flowers. This would be his perfect opportunity.
Kurama jumped down to the ground landing gracefully and silently on his feet. Before he could move, however, the miko stood and straightened up from the spot she was just picking flowers in.
“So, you've finally decided to come introduce yourself?” She asked, turning to face him with a slight smile playing on her lips.
Kurama just stared at her. He finally spoke after a minute of silence. “Tell me miko, if you knew I was in the tree all this time, why haven't you attempted to purify me yet?”
Kagome's smile widened slightly, “If you wanted to hurt me or my family, you would have done so already. You've had days to attack us. I don't kill demons unless they attack first.”
Kurama cocked his head slightly. He knew that her group was not her family by blood. They must have formed a strong enough bond, however, to be considered as such. “What a strange miko you are. Most miko would not hesitate to kill a demon on sight.”
“I suppose. But tell me, kitsune, if you know my name why do you not use it?”
“I suppose. But tell me, kitsune, if you know my name why do you not use it?”
Kurama stared at Kagome and slowly stalked over to her.
“Very well, Kagome. “ As he neared her, he pulled a seed out of his hair and using his demon energy transformed it into a blooming red rose. Kagome watched him curiously as he took her hand and placed the rose in her open palm.
“Use the rose to make medicine. It is more effective than the herbs you picked before.”
Kagome stared at the rose. She then ran past him. He turned around, assuming she was running away. However, he instantly realized that was not the case when she stopped by a bush near the tree he had resided in.
Kagome pulled a flower from the bush. It was round and pink. Simple and elegant. He noticed it was the exact same color as her lips. She returned to where Kurama stood, a perplexed look on his face. Kagome took his hand and opened his palm to lay the flower in it.
Kurama almost laughed at the girl. “Kagome, I can make flowers on my own. Why would you think I need this one?”
Kagome looked up into his golden eyes, truly smiling now. “It reminds me of you,” she said. “Its elegant and obviously beautiful, but you can tell there is more to it than what meets the eye.”
Kurama stood there staring at her. For the first time in his life, he didn't know what to say. He looked into her blue eyes, his own slowly moving down to her lips as she spoke again.
“You know, its rude not to tell someone your name after they've given you a present.”
It was now his turn to smile. He took the hand that was still holding his and pulled Kagome closer to him. “Tell me, what kind of miko wears such revealing clothes as yours?”
“The kind that doesn't judge someone based on what they're born as.”
That was the last answer Kurama had expected. With each passing moment this girl was becoming more and more intriguing to him. Then Kagome started laughing. To his ears, the sound was as beautiful as her voice and as sweet as her scent.
“In my home village, this kind of robe is very common.” She said. Kagome pulled her hand away and smiled up at him once more. “I should go before InuYasha worries. I'll be sure to use the flower you gave me. Arigato gozaimasu.” She said bowing to him. She turned around and started walking toward the village.
“Youko Kurama.” She stopped in her tracks when he spoke. “That is my name.”
Kagome smiled to herself and continued walking back to InuYasha.
Kurama watched her walk away. He looked at the flower Kagome had given him, her wonderful scent still lingering on it.
