Chapter 4
"Rin, Shippo!" Kagome shouted as she looked around the place she last saw them.

"Kagome!"

She turned around in time to see the two small bodies of Rin and Shippo running towards her. She knelt down and held her arms out. Rin and Shippo clung to her chest and hugged her. "Come on guys, let go see the others."

Kagome took Rin and Shippo's hands in hers and led them to the dining hall.

Everyone stopped talking when the doors of the dining hall opened. They were hoping for Kagome, though Shinjiru wanted Sesshoumaru to walk through the doors. She was happy when he did come in.

Sango slumped in her chair. "I thought it was Kagome this time."

Sesshoumaru looked at her in fake curiosity, "The miko is missing?"

Sango looked at him in amazement, "No, but she hasn't come out of Sitora's room yet. I want to go check on her, but Inuyasha and Sitora keep saying she's exhausted. I don't see how she could be tired though."

Sesshoumaru let the smallest of smirks grace his face. "I'm sure she's fine. If there were something wrong in my palace I would know."

"Yeah, I guess you're right."

He sat at the head of the table, not eating. He was hungry, but there would be time for that later after Kagome got here. He didn't feel the need to eat while everyone was gawking at him. With Kagome here everyone's atttention would be on her, not him.

"Sesshoumaru."

He looked at Shinjiru, "Yes?"

"How come you slept so late? It's not like you."

He almost smirked at her, "I was extremely tired."

Inuyasha and Sitora laughed loudly. Besides Miroku, who felt it would give away his knowledge of their relationship, Inuyasha and Sitora were the only ones that knew about their mating.

When her laughing died down Sitora smiled, "So what's on the agenda for today?"

"We will all be going to the army village. I need to check on some things and thought I'd rather not have all of you here in my home alone."

Inuyasha snorted, "What you think we're gonna steal some priceless furniture?"

"No, I think you and your friends are destructive and left to yourselves in my home may cause some damage I'd rather not deal with."

Sitora laughed again, "I'd say if they wanted to trash this place it would be destroyed already."

Sesshoumaru shook his head, "I'm sure your right."

Kagome came running through the door with Rin and Shippo right behind her. She ran up to the table and they tried to tackle her, but one look from Sesshoumaru stopped them. Kagome smiled at them and sat down. "So what's for breakfast?"

"So where have you been?" Sango looked at her clothes, "Where did you get those?"

Kagome looked down, having completely forgotten about her new clothes. "Oh, a servant brought them. She said since we would be visiting an army village it would be best if I wasn't wearing anything 'revealing'."

"Oh."

Servants came in with food for their Lord and Lady. One of them placed a tray of food in front of Kagome, "My Lady, I hope you enjoy your meal."

Inuyasha and Miroku looked at all of the food that was brought for Sesshoumaru and Kagome. "What the hell is this? We didn't get this much food when we ate."

"You can have some Inuyasha. I doubt I'll be able to eat all of this alone."

Inuyasha smiled at her, "Alright." He took some of the food off of her trays and started eating. "Thanks Kagome."

She smiled, "Sure Inuyasha. Anyone else want some?"

With smiles all around everyone dug in. Sesshoumaru was also eating, but with Kagome there it went unnoticed. He was grateful for that, whenever he ate around people they always looked at him like he had grown another head. He scoffed, 'Did they think I did not eat?'

When everyone had had their fill they sat around the table in silence. Inuyasha glared at Sesshoumaru as he just stared at Inuyasha. Sesshoumaru smirked, "Perhaps you need to get laid hanyou."

Kagome looked at him in shock, "Sesshoumaru." Her eyes settled on the oblivious Inuyasha, "Just because he doesn't know what you said doesn't mean you can say it."

"He is only jealous."

She shook her head, "I doubt it."

Inuyasha glared at Kagome, "Stop the talking about me, I know you two are."

Sitora changed the subject, "So when are we leaving?"

"We will be leaving shortly."

They all left the table and made their way to the garden. Inuyasha looked around, "Why are we here?"

"The children will not be coming. It is not safe for their to be young children in the village."

Kagome looked at him, "Your soldiers don't reproduce?"

"They do, but when the pups are being born and raised they go to a different village far from the army one. Should the army village be attacked the pups will be safer in another village."

"Oh, it makes sense."

"Sesshoumaru," Shinjiru said, "why are we going to the village?"

"For various reasons." Jaken came out and stopped beside Sesshoumaru. "Jaken you will be staying here and watching the kids."

"Aye M'Lord."

Sesshoumaru summoned his youki cloud and they headed for the village. It really wasn't that far, but it was hidden very well. It took Kagome until they were right on top of the village to see it.

"Wow, it sure is hidden."

"Yes, were my enemies ever to discover where it is they would attack it and try to demolish my army. It is a requirement for the village to be hidden."

When the cloud was near enough to the ground it dissipated. Everyone followed Sesshoumaru into the village. They were mildly surprised to see that no one really paid mush attention to Sesshoumaru as he walked through the village. The eyes of most of the youkai were on Kagome, Sango, Inuyasha, and Miroku.

Out of all of the youkai only two came up to Sesshoumaru. He stopped at their approach.

"My Lord, such a surprise. I was not aware you had returned to the palace. In fact, Sitora was here about four or five days ago. She kept complaining about your absence."

Sitora glared at him, "Hey, Raiko! I was not complaining that much! I was simply stating the fact that Sesshoumaru was missing in action." She crossed her arms over her chest and huffed, "It's not like I was panicing or anything."

Raiko laughed, "So what brings you here Lord Sesshoumaru?"

Kasari stepped forward, "Lord Sesshoumaru the pups have been born."

Kagome peeked aroung Sesshoumaru, "Pups?"

Raiko and Kasari looked at Kagome in shock. Their Lord had never brought anyone into the village, let alone a human. Sesshoumaru stepped aside and to the surprise of the two there were more people behind him.

Inuyasha looked at Kasari and Raiko. He turned his attention back to Sesshoumaru, "This place is bigger than I thought. Your army, is it bigger than father's was?"

"Yes, it is nearly five times larger than his was."

Kagome looked around, "It's just like any normal village. Except that they're soldiers and attacking this village would rusult in the death of the attackers. How many youkai are there living here?"

"Nearly three thousand."

Sango stepped next to Kagome, "I've never seen so many youkai. What are they trained to do?"

Sesshoumaru reguarded her in mild boredom, "It depends on their duty."

Raiko was stunned that Sesshoumaru was answering their questions. "My lord could you please introduce your companions to me?"

"Of course." He motioned towards Inuyasha, "This is my brother Inuyasha. His companions, the youkai exterminator Sango, the monk Miroku, and the guardian of the Shikon no Tama Kagome. The fourth member of their group is at the palace, he is a kit named Shippo." He turned to his new mate and allies, "This is Raiko and Kasari the leading generals in my army."

Kagome smiled, "It is nice to meet you both."

"Take me to the pups."

Kagome frowned, "Sesshou, I thought you said the pups were born in a different village."

"These are not pups born of regular youkai Kagome. They are like the exterminator's neko."

Kagome smiled brightly, "Oh. Can I come with you to see them?"

"Sure, if you wish to."

Kagome waved to her friends as they followed Kasari, "I'll see you guys later!"

He led them through quite a few roads until they finally stopped at a large hut. Kasari pulled the door open and stepped inside. They went into the back room and there curled up on the floor was an inu the size of a full grown Doberman. There were small pups curled up near her stomach.

"How many are there?" Kagome looked at Kasari as he walked towards the inus. She couldn't see the pups, but the mother was black with silver ears and silver at the bottom of her paws.

"There are five pups. Three males and two females. Lord Sesshoumaru has asked for pick of the litter."

Sesshoumaru walked over to the pups, but looked at Kasari, "The father?"

"The silver and red inu that belongs to Duino. He is still over there if you wish to see him as well."

He shook his head, "No, that is not necissary." When he knelt down the female inu looked up at him. "Her name?"

"Amai."

Kagome smiled, 'Her name means sweet.'

At her name being said Amai got up and walked to Kasari. She sat at his feet and watched Sesshoumaru. He was looking at the pups. Amai's movement woke the pups up. They sarted playing with Sesshoumaru's tail and haori sleeves.

Kagome laughed, "I think they like you Sesshou." She knelt down next to him and held her hand out. Two of the puppies left Sesshoumaru and ran to Kagome. She giggled when they started licking her hands.

Kasari watched Kagome interact with the pups. It was odd, normally inu pups like these didn't take to well to humans. And her calling him 'Sesshou' was also odd. He had never permitted anyone to call him anything other than Lord Sesshoumaru, except Sitora. Though that was different.

Sesshoumaru was aware of Kasari's look at Kagome. It was odd, but she was now the Lady of the West. "Kasari."

"Yes, Lord Sesshoumaru?"

"I would like two of these pups."

"Of course my Lord."

Kagome looked at Sesshoumaru, "Are you going to give one to Rin?"

"Yes, she will be given a female. They are calmer and will deal with Rin's energy better."

"What about the other one?"

He smiled at Kagome, "The other one is for you."

Surprise shone in Kagome's eyes, "Why?"

"A gift and I wall not always be able to accompany you while you hunt jewel shards, your pup will protect you when I can not."

Kagome smiled, "You really don't trust Inuyasha to keep me safe do you?"

"No. Had things not changed last night I would not worry as much." He turned to a stunned Kasari, "Kagome is my mate. I want her protected."

"My Lord I didn't know you took a mate."

"It was recent. You are the first to know. I want you to tell the rest of the soldiers, I can not. There is much I need to prepare for before I leave with my brother."

"Of course. Lady Kagome have your pick."

Kagome smiled, "If it's all the same I'd rather you just call me Kagome." She turned back to the pups. There was one she particulaly liked. It was a male. He was red with black paws, ears, and a cute black spot on his right eye. His eyes were a bright gold color. She picked him up and he licked her face. "I want this one."

Kasari looked at the pup, "He's a fine choice. He is the biggest of the litter and the most protective. What do you say Lord Sesshoumaru?"

"If he is the one she wants then we will take him. And this one." He picked up a small female that was all silver. Her eyes shone a bright blue with silver specs in it. "This one will be for Rin." He looked at Kagome's new pup, "What will you name him?"

Kagome looked up, "I think the best name would beYue. The guardian of the moon."

Kasari smile, "A perfect name Kagome."

"Yes, I agree. Come Kagome."

"Coming." She held Yue in her arms as they walked back to where they had left everyone. Sesshoumaru left the female with Amai. She was supposed to be delivered to the palace by the end of the week.

When they reached the spot where Inuyasha and the others were left no one was there. Kagome looked at Sesshoumaru, "Where do you think they went?"

He was about to answer when Raiko ran up to him. "My Lord we have a problem. Some of the newer soldiers attacked your brother and his friends. Sitora and Shijiru have already left and I can not get the soldiers to stop."

With a growl Sesshoumaru took off after his brother's scent. Kagome, Kasari, and Raiko were right behind him. He broke through a small series of huts and saw a crowd gathered around something. He growled and the crowd split, letting their Lord through. Kagome was behind him with Kasari and Raiko behind her. When they were close enough to see what happened Kagome gasped.

She ran past Sesshoumaru and into to small clearing. Inuyasha, Miroku, and Sango were all bleeding. They had cuts all over. "Inuyasha!" Kagome ran up to him and knelt down, "Are you okay?" She heard growling behind her and looked up in time to see one of the youkai that attacked Inuyasha with a sword in his hand. He swung his sword at her and Kagome closed her eyes tightly.

When her eyes reopened Sesshoumaru was standing in front of her with the Tokijin out. He had cut the youkai in half. Kagome sighed and turned back to Inuyasha. She set Yue down and let her miko energy flow into his and her other friends' wounds. They were fully healed in seconds.

Inuyasha stood up using Tetsusaiga as a crutch. He was healed, but his body was still sore. Sesshoumaru looked him over and turned back to the crowd.

Raiko look at Kasari stunned, "He has never acted this severely before."

Kasari growled, "He has a right to. That one, Kagome, she is his mate. She is going through the change right now. I know you can feel it."

Raiko looked at Kagome. He could feel it, but until now he hadn't know what he was feeling. He had never been near a female who was changing through the mating mark.

Sesshoumaru studied the crowd. Some faces he knew well and had fought with them before and others he had never seen before. "Who else attacked them?"

Three youkai he had never seen stepped forward. They were young and impulsive. He growled at them and they flinched. Kagome stood behind him with Yue back in her arms. Sesshoumau was faintly aware that Yue was growling steadily at the crowd around them.

"Why did you feel the need to attack them?"

The one with short black hair spoke up, "The hanyou was bad mouthing you Lord Sesshoumaru."

"Oh?" He turned to Inuyasha, "What did you say?"

Inuyasha sheathed the Tetsusaiga, "I only said now that I know the where bastard keep his army he can't use it against me."

Kagome glared at him, "Inuyasha!"

He shrugged, "Hey just because what happened with him doesn't mean I have to like him."

"You only said that?"

"Yeah! And these guys along with the one you split in two attacked all of us. The only reason the whole village isn't one giant crater right now is because of Kagome."

Sesshoumaru turned back to the soldiers. "How long have you been in this army."

This time the one with long red hair spoke, "All of us have been in this army for five years."

"Surely in this five year period you heard of my brother. It was ordered to all of my soldiers that if you ever saw my brother you were not to attack. Yet here you are attacking my brother and his friends." He looked at them coldly, "I will tell you now that I will not suffer any insolence in my army. You will be killed for your behavior."

They paled as they heard their sentence.

"First I wish to know why you attacked her. I know the now dead one managed to get close enough to try, but I also know you were right behind him, ready to kill her."

The third youkai finally spoke, "We thought she was with them."

Sesshoumaru's eyes turned to ice, "She is, but I will tell you the reason you are going to die today. Had it simply been an attack on my brother and his friends you would be kicked out of my army for insubordination." He stepped back so Kagome was at his side, "She is my mate. You attacked my mate and for that you will die."

Everyone in the crowd silenced. They parted and now stood on either side of the three who were going to die. Sesshoumaru held up Tokijin and with one swing their bodies dissintigrated. He put the Tokijin back into his sash and turned to face his soldiers and their mates.

"Now you know that I have taken a mate. There will be a time when she comes back here and you are expected to show her respect." He placed a hand on her shoulder, he could smell her tears.

She looked up at him and pulled away from his hand. She shook her head and ran from him.

Inuyasha went to follow, but Sesshoumaru stopped him. "Let her be."

He looked at Sesshoumaru, "Why did she run?"

"She doesn't understand why I killed them." The youkai that had crowded around left slowly. "I explained to her the protectiveness of a youkai to their mate, but she was only told. She never saw a youkai with their mate before."

Inuyasha nodded, "I've seen youkai do worse than that before, but Kagome was raised as a human."

"I know, but I can not change the way I am."

Inuyasha smirked, "I doubt she'd change you anyway. Kagome will understand."

Kagome sat in the middle of a field inside the village walls. She had stopped crying and was playing with Yue. She felt stupid for running like she did, Sesshoumaru warned her. He told her that male youkai were very protective of their mates and now she knew he meant it.

Yue pulled on the stick Kagome had in her hand playfully. Kagome pulled the stick back towards her and smiled when Yue growled. She was startled when he dropped the stick and started growling at something behind her. Kagome turned around and saw a female youkai standing there.

"That's one of Amai's pups isn't it?"

Kagome pulled Yue into her lap, "Yeah, he is. My mate got him for me."

She smiled and walked closer, "My name is Sakra. I don't mean to be rude but you just recently mated didn't you?"

Kagome looked at her in question, "Yeah, how did you know?"

"Your scent hasn't completely changed yet. And you are still human."

"Yeah, my mate said I should change fully tonight." Kagome stood up, "My name is Kagome."

"How come you're all the way out here Kagome?"

Kagome stroked Yue's fur, "Well, my mate he killed some youkai."

"That bothers you?"

"Well, not that. He's killed many youkai, more than I could ever guess. It's just that he killed three youkai for trying to hurt me."

"Did he tell you about youkai nature before you two mated?"

"Yes, but I guess I didn't really believe it. Now I do and I feel foolish for running from him when he tried to comfort me."

Sakra smiled at her, "He obviously understands that you need time to collect your thoughts or he would be here already."

"Yeah, he always gives me my space, even when I don't want it." Kagome looked at the sky, "I should really go now." Kagome walked to the edge of the clearing and turned back to Sakra, "Thank you."

"Anytime Lady Kagome." She bowed and smiled when she saw Kagome's shocked expression. "Lord Sesshoumaru is waiting for you near the village enterance."

Kagome left for to find Sesshoumaru and apologize for being an idiot. Yue ran playfully at her side, accationally crossing in front of her. Kagome laughed when he tripped and fell. She picked him up and ran the rest of the way to her mate and friends.

She found them waiting paitently for her. Kagome walked up to where Sesshoumaru was talking to Kasari. Kasari greeted her with a smile, but Sesshoumaru only looked at her. With a small smile Kagome closed her eyes, "I'm sorry Sesshou."

He gave her a curt nod and held his hand out to her. Kagome took it with a smile and stood at his side. Sesshoumaru returned to his conversation with Kasari. Kagome didn't follow whatever they were talking about, she was focused on Sango. Kagome wasn't sure where the feeling was coming from, but she could have sworn Sango was staring at her.

Kagome pulled on Sesshoumaru's haori sleeve. He looked down at her in question. She looked up at him hesitantly, "Sesshou, does Kasari understand High Inu?"

He shook his head, "Why are you asking?"

"Well, I keep getting the feeling Sango is looking at me, but everytime I look at her she is talking to Inuyasha. And I keep hearing my name, but no one is talking to me." She looked down, "Am I being paranoid?"

Sesshoumaru looked at Sango. She was standing with his brother and the monk. The exterminator was looking at Kagome, but from the corner of her eye. It seems she figured Kagome wouldn't notice and how wrong she was. Kagome's youkai senses were starting to awaken, even if Kagome didn't know what she was feeling, it was there.

He was also aware of the distinct fact that Sango, the monk, and his brother were talking about Kagome. Sango was asking them questions about his and Kagome's mating. It seems it was a surprise to her, though the monk and Inuyasha knew before hand that their mating might happen.

Sesshoumaru growled low in his throat. Kagome and everyone near them looked at him fearfully. In a tongue he was positive Inuyasha knew Sesshoumaru spoke only to him. He spoke in the hanyou tongue, "Any questions the extermiantor has about my mate will be answered by my mate only Inuyasha. You will not answer any of her questions about our mating or tell her or the monk about the relationship Kagome and I had before we mated. Understand?"

Inuyasha frowned, "Hey, I didn't say anything!" He looked at Kagome and saw she was frowning too. 'I guess she knows more than just High Inu.' Inuyasha cast his eyes down, "Kagome I wasn't going to say anything about you and Sesshoumaru. That's your business not mine."

She smiled at him, "I know Inuyasha. I just thought she would ask me not you and Miroku. Don't worry about it Inuyasha." At her feet Yue nosed her leg. Kagome laughed and bent down, "I'm sorry I didn't mean to ignore you Yue."

Sesshoumaru looked at his mate as she played with the pup, "We should head back Kagome. You are changing faster than I thought and you will be weak when the actual change happens. I would rather have you safe in the palace with me."

Kagome giggled at him, "You mean you'd rather have me in our bed nice and warm."

A playful smirk lit his face, "Sweaty and moaning would be more accurate mate."

Kagome gasped at him, "Sesshoumaru!"

"I only tell the truth Kagome. Now come." He looked back at Kasari, "I will keep in touch, and have the village on alert."

"Of course my Lord. And Kagome, enjoy your new pup." He turned from them and made his way down the crowded streets.

Kagome smiled as he walked away, "Sesshoumaru I like him, he's very nice." She stood up with Yue in her arms, "Alright, lets go." She walked over to her friends, "Guys we're headed back to the palace now."

Inuyasha looked at the puppy in her arms, "Why do you have that?"

"Because I wanted one. Rin is getting one too, except hers is female and mine is a male. Isn't he cute?"

"I guess. What's his name?"

Kagome smiled down at Yue when he yawned, "His name is Yue."

"Did you name him or did Sesshoumaru?"

"I did. Besides, Yue is the perfect name for him, don't you think Inuyasha?"

"Keh, for the Lady of the West? Yeah, but couldn't you be original? You could have named him Inuyasha." He smirked at her.

Kagome laughed, "But I'm sure my little inu pup couldn't live up to such a prestigious name. No one could carry that name better than you Inuyasha." She bowed to him, smiling the whole time. Kagome straightened up when Sesshoumaru walked up to them.

Inuyasha looked at Sesshoumaru, "Yue huh?"

He shook his head, "Yes, her idea."

With little warning everyone was on his youki cloud and soaring back to the palace. Kagome sat at the ede of the cloud like last time with Yue sitting beside her. Kagome wasn't looking out at the forest below though, her attention was on Yue. He was the same size as Kirara was now, like the size of a normal puppy. His mother, Amai, looked like a Doberman and now that Kagome thought about it none of the pups looked exactly alike.

Yue looked like a German Shepard, except for the color and markings. Rin's new pup looked like a Boxer. Short tail and all, it was odd.

"Hey Sesshou?" Kagome looked up from her inspection of Yue at her mate.

He turned his head and his eyes met hers, "Yes?"

"How come Yue didn't look like any of his brothers of sisters? He didn't even look like Amai."

"It's the way these breed of inu are born. Each of them are different so they can be used for different things. Most of the females will be used to be breed though."

Kagome smiled at Yue when he yawned, "Will I be able to take him home, to my time?"

"Yes, all inu are capable of learning a spell of some kind to hide their true forms. Yue will be able to learn this spell in about a week." At her questioning look he elaborated, "The spell will make him look like a regular mortal dog, not a youkai."

"Oh, that'll come in handy. What about special abilities, like yours or Inuyasha's, can he learn stuff like that?"

Inuyasha spoke, "He will learn something like we can do except more suited to his natural strength. And they can even learn from watching other youkai attack and fight."

"What do you mean learn?"

"Say he were to watch me and Sesshoumaru fight, after that fight he'd memorize our attacks and the next time he faced one or both of us he could adapt his abilities to combat ours."

"Wow, I didn't know they could do that. That's pretty cool." She pulled the now sleeping Yue into her lap. She absently stroked his fur as she watched the sun set. Kagome hadn't realized how long they were gone until now. "Will he be able to fly?"

Sesshoumaru looked down at his strong mate with her pup in her arms. He couldn't wait until it was one of their pups in her arms. "Yes, in two years he will have the ability to fly."

Kagome smiled down at him, he was so cute. She started to fall asleep with his light warmth on her lap.

Sesshoumaru saw this and went and picked her and Yue up. She fell asleep in Sesshoumaru's arms with Yue nestled safely on her lap.

Upon reaching the castle Sesshoumaru headed right to their room and tucked Kagome into bed. Yue had opened his tired eyes, blinked a lazily few times, then returned to sleep. He left them and went to find Rin and Shippo.
