A Deeper Destiny: Chapter Four
Jai glared at her as she stole a dumpling from his plate. She stuck her tongue at him when their parents weren’t looking. As she bit into the stolen dumpling, Sesshoumaru spoke up.
“Ping.” His voice was firm. He wanted to talk, and it was important. Everyone turned their attention onto the Taiyoukai. The Emperor nodded at him. “I have a proposal to make, but I think it would necessitate your approval and permission.”
“What is it, Lord Sesshoumaru?” The Emperor put his chopsticks down.
“I would like to take Kagome back to Japan with me for a visit, that is, if she would like to.” The Emperor considered his words for a moment before looking at Kagome.
“I’d love to!!” She blurted out, then clapped a hand over her mouth at her outburst. “Please, excuse my manners.” She cast her eyes down, cheeks reddening in embarrassment.
“Judging by Jinghua, err, Kagome’s reaction, I’d say she would love to,” Ping said, a silly grin on his face. “However, my permission is not needed. Jinghua is old enough to make her own decisions and she is free to come and go as she likes.” He let out an ‘oof’ as Kagome shot out of her seat and swallowed him in a hug.
“Oh thank you father! I love China and all of you with all my heart, but I do miss Japan.” She quickly pulled herself together and scrambled back to her seat.
“After our departure, I will come back to return her in six fortnights.” Sesshoumaru announced, which prompted an animated discussion among the Imperial family. The Empress began to talk about robes and hairpins to pack while the Princes began to speculate about the adventures that could be had in Japan. Sesshoumaru remained silent as the discussion continued excitedly, his mind elsewhere. He came back to himself when he felt Kagome’s aura reach out to him. He let his Youki reach out to touch her aura and saw a little smile on her lips as she talked. He was reveling in the way their auras intertwined when he came to a realization. Her once dormant miko was awakening and growing strong, humming to life in her veins. He puzzled over why it would awaken and figured his presence probably triggered it. He was a powerful Youkai, after all. He let the corners of his mouth lift a little as Kagome turned a warm, dazzling smile on him. Why hadn’t he come to China earlier?
“What’s the matter, Sesshy?” She asked, giggling. He felt his eye twitch, but couldn’t help thinking how cute she was when she said that. His eye twitched again when he realized what he was thinking.
“How am I supposed to carry all your things back to Japan in my Youkai Sphere?”
“We‘re traveling in that light circle thingy?” She asked, eyes big.
“Yes, we‘re traveling in that light circle thingy as you have named it. I couldn’t possible carry all your belongings as well.”
“Hm. Yes, well, we do have a dilemma on our hands, don’t we?” Sesshoumaru glared at her and she sighed. “All right, I‘ll quit the fooling around. I‘m pretty sure I know I transporting spell.”
“You do?” He couldn’t keep the incredulous tone from slipping out. She pouted.
“Of course!” She stepped up to him. “Now think of a place in your palace where I can send these things.” He closed his eyes and imagined the front hall. He felt Kagome’s fingers at his temple. He felt her miko surge and when he opened his eyes, the little mountain of luggage was gone. Kagome was leaning against him, breathing heavily. He put his arms around her waist to support her.
“Kagome?” he inquired. She looked up at him with a smile.
“Wow. I have to get used to that again. I haven’t used my powers in forever!” He returned her smile, suddenly feeling very proud and warm. She pulled away from him to fix a hairpin. “Damn these things. I‘ll finally be able to wear my hair down back at home.” He chuckled at that. Internally, his heart sped up, knowing she still thought of Japan as home.
“Come, you need to say farewell to your family.” She nodded and they turned to head to the reception hall.
“Jai,” she whispered, “Goodbye, my brother.” He nodded and stepped back to his place beside his mother. He felt empty without Jinghua on his left. He watched silently as she stepped to Taiyoukai. She waved to them one last time, a small smile on her face. The Western Lord of Japan put an arm around her waist and gave a nod to the Emperor. An orb of light surrounded the pair, which then rose and took off into the late morning sky. Beside him, his mother wiped away a tear.
“What did you say to Jinghua, mother?” She turned to him with a sad smile on her face. She cupped his cheek with a palm.
“I told her to come visit often, because when she returns to China, it will be only to visit, not to stay.” The Emperor and the other two Princes turned to stare at her.
“Mother! What do you speak of?! Surely Jinghua will return home!” Yu looked at his mother with wide eyes.
“No, my son. China is not her home. Where she is headed to right now, that is her home,” she said quietly. Her husband took her hand in his. “I do not know how I know this,” she whispered, “but I know in my heart that our Jinghua will not return to China to stay.” The Emperor squeezed her hand comfortingly.
“Then she’ll just have to visit often.”
“I should be the one asking you that,” he said, amusement and worry in his golden orbs. She patted the hand around her waist reassuringly.
“I’m fine.” He stared at her, eyebrow raised.
“So you’ve gotten better at lying. Don’t forget, I can smell it when you do not speak the truth.” He smirked as she gave out a frustrated sigh, muttering something about damn Youkai and their enhanced senses.
“Fine. My mother told me something weird.”
“To visit often, because when you return, it wont be to stay?” He chuckled at her angry expression. He heard her mumble ‘damn Youkai senses’ under her breath. She let out an exasperated sigh.
“You obviously heard what was said, so you shouldn’t have to ask much more.”
“Hn.”
“Sesshoumaru?”
̶ 0;Hn.” He smirked internally when she growled.
“Stop with the Hn! Kami-sama!”
“Hn.” He stared at her angry face, fighting to keep his emotionless mask in place. She was just so easy to provoke. “You had a question?” She took a deep intake of breath, trying to calm herself. He stared on with amusement in his eyes.
“How long ‘til we get home?”
“Seven hours.”
“Where will I be staying?”
“My palace, of course.”
“You’ll let me stay there?”
“You want I should let you sleep out in the forest?”
“What if I want to?” She asked, folding her arms beneath her breasts.
“Then this Sesshoumaru would hunt you down and drag you back to the palace, kicking and screaming if you resist, and force you into bed,” he said with a straight face and an even, calm voice. She stared at him with calculating eyes. Finally she sighed.
“Arghhh! I can’t tell if you really mean it or if you’re just being sarcastic!!” He smirked. And then her scent hit him. Hard. It was fierce and intense, giving it a spicy tinge. It spurred him on to retort.
“You don’t believe this Sesshoumaru would force you into bed?” He asked, smirking at her suggestively. Her cheeks burned with embarrassment as she stared at him. She looked away, then grew even more angry that she had backed off. She turned back to face him, her face cool and composed.
“You couldn’t get me into bed even if you tried.” Unbeknownst to the miko, her scent was tinged slightly with arousal, as she unconsciously became a little aroused. But the Taiyoukai caught it and inhaled deeply, her scent intoxicating. She gasped as he swiftly pulled her to him, his hands on her hips, their bodies flush against each other.
“Of course, I don’t even have to try, you’d come willingly.” Kagome’s breath hitched. She knew she was aroused now. She felt her anger flare.
“Ugh! Kami-sama!” She pushed against Sesshoumaru, trying to dislodge herself. He held her tighter as her hips ground into his, trying to keep her still. But she just fought more, squirming against him. He felt his control slipping. She froze when she felt a poke and looked up at Sesshoumaru. Crimson was beginning to seep into his eyes. A tendril of fear wrapped itself around her mind. She stilled herself in his arms and by instinct, licked his throat. She watched silently as the red in his eyes receded. He stared down at her in shock.
“Sesshoumaru? Are you okay?” His frantic eyes searched her own. He sagged down on his knees, clutching Kagome to him. She stood silently as Sesshoumaru kneeled against her and hugged her waist. She smoothed his hair as he buried his face against her stomach. When his arms slackened a little, she kneeled down next to him, hugging him tight.
“I’m sorry,” he said quietly.
“For what?” She asked, stroking his hair.
“I lost control. I could have hurt you.”
“But you didn’t, and I trust you. Besides, I provoked you anyway.” she said softly, reassuring him with a tight hug. She stared out past the light of his Youkai Sphere to the passing scenery. They were going too fast for her to see clearly, but it was obvious that they were over the ocean. She watched as the sun began to dip below the horizon. Feeling exhausted emotionally and physically, she slumped against Sesshoumaru, falling asleep against him.
It was hours later that she awoke, the sky dark and stars twinkling, the moon shining down on them. She felt warm. Really warm. Rubbing her eyes, she realized she was draped across Sesshoumaru’s lap, his Mokomoko-sama arranged on top of her. She smiled up at the sight that greeted her. Sesshoumaru lay in the curve of his Youkai Sphere, asleep, Kagome cradled in his lap, her head resting on his upper abdomen. His face was peaceful, so tranquil. Kagome held her breath at his beauty. Tentatively, she reached up a hand and stoked the two magenta stripes on a cheek. In his sleep, he leaned into her hand and she smiled at his action. She pulled her hand back and made herself comfortable, falling back asleep.

Kagome flew down the halls, her servants hot on her heels. The gongs sounded and a winded servant in green robes called out her arrival. She stopped before the entrance to the dining hall and composed herself, adjusting her robes and catching her breath. Pursing her reddened, gold-powdered lips, she put on a calm façade and stepped into the hall regally, head high. After bowing to her family and their guest, she took her seat at the table. Servants rushed in to serve the food and the meal began. She smiled at Sesshoumaru as a plate was placed between them. She saw the corner of his mouth quirk a little and grinned internally. The meal went on pleasantly as they ate and talked.Jai glared at her as she stole a dumpling from his plate. She stuck her tongue at him when their parents weren’t looking. Sesshoumaru frowned as he looked over the small mountain of luggage. He and Kagome were supposed to go back to Japan today. Teak crates and brocade bags filled with Kami knows what were piled neatly in the main hall. How in the seven hells was he going to get all that stuff to his palace in Japan? He’d traveled here in his Youkai Sphere and there was no way in hell that he was going use a boat. His brow creased, he looked up to see Kagome and a couple of servants, whom of which were carrying even more intricate brocade bags stuffed to the brim. The servants quickly added them to the pile then left promptly. Kagome sauntered over to him, her long, golden robe brushing along the carpet.“What’s the matter, Sesshy?” She asked, giggling. He felt his eye twitch, but couldn’t help thinking how cute she was when she said that. His eye twitched again when he realized what he was thinking.

Jai watched silently as his mother bade Jinghua farewell. The elder woman embraced the younger tightly, whispering something into her ear. He watched as Jinghua’s blue eyes widened as she pulled away from the Empress. She held her mother by the shoulders, her mouth moving quickly as she asked a question. Their mother only shook her head and kissed her on her forehead. They embraced one last time and the Empress stepped away, moving to stand next to the Emperor. His sister of heart and not by blood turned to him and he stepped forward to her hesitantly. Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears. He quickly pulled her into a tight embrace. “Farewell, my sister. I will see you in three month’s time.” She nodded up at him and placed a kiss on his cheek. “Don’t have too many adventures, okay? I’ll get jealous.” She smiled and he held her close.“Jai,” she whispered, “Goodbye, my brother.” He nodded and stepped back to his place beside his mother. He felt empty without Jinghua on his left. Sesshoumaru stared down at the top of Kagome’s head. She hadn’t spoken since they’d left the Imperial Palace and her aura was troubled. As though she felt his gaze, she looked up. “What‘s the matter?”“I should be the one asking you that,” he said, amusement and worry in his golden orbs. She patted the hand around her waist reassuringly.

A/N: Okay, that 'Sesshoumaru almost loses total control' scene was soo much better in my head. Basically, it marks the beginning of Sesshoumaru's physical attraction to Kagome. He was already attracted to her, but now his Youkai desires her as well.XxxX
