A Deeper Destiny: Chapter Sixteen
Disclaimer: Well, you see, me and Rumiko Takahashi are like this. We’re like the bestest friends everrr. So I borrow Inuyasha once in a while. Mmhm. Yup.
Ha. I wish. I don’t Inuyasha, and I never will, because Rumiko Takahashi’s got him for life.
Swirling azure depths opened from beneath thick-lashed lids, shining with happiness and contentment. Looking up at the magnolias above her, Kagome smiled. She sat there, on a bench beneath a low magnolia tree, leaning backwards on her hands. Behind her, her long raven hair flowed into the lap of Sanyu, who was busy humming and fixing white lotuses into the inky tresses. Kagome snagged a lotus from the basket at the foot of the bench, fingering the petals gently.
“I’ve never seen this type of lotus before,” she mused out loud.
“It is a rare hybrid from China, Kagome-sama.” Kagome nodded in reply, thoughts elsewhere.
“Sanyu, I have been at the Northern Palace for about a week now, and you have been with me ever since.” The Kitsune looked up from her work, curiosity peaking, and murmured a noise of acknowledgement. “Yet you have not told me anything about yourself.” Kagome sat up and turned to face the young female. “I shouldn’t pry, but I want to know more about you; where you are from, why you’re here...” Sanyu smiled, jade green eyes distant.
“I was born in the Eastern lands, into a wealthy village of Kitsune. I lived a happy life, with my mother, father, and sister. Then came the war.” Kagome’s brow creased as she remembered the war that Toyoharu spoke of. “It was a year-long war, between the East and the North. The Taiyoukai of the East, was in love with Lord Toyoharu’s mate, Lady Yoshe. Both Lord Toyoharu and Lord Nakago, the Eastern Lord, had courted her in their youth, but in the end, the Lady Yoshe chose Lord Toyoharu’s kindness over Nakago’s wealth. The years passed, with great tension between the two lands. Finally, Nakago snapped, and attacked the North. War was declared. My village was decimated, and by my own Lord’s troops. While on their way to the North, they terrorized their own villages, stealing, destroying, hurting..” Sanyu looked away, tears brimming in those green eyes. “My sister was kidnapped, taken away to be some general’s love slave. They were going to take me, but she offered herself, threw me to the side and told them to take her.” Her shoulders began to shake at this point, and Kagome moved to hold the crying girl.
“You don’t have to continue,” Kagome whispered, her own cheeks wet with tears. But Sanyu only shook her head.
“I was left there, on the side of the road, watching as my sister was carried away. It was then that I came across Asahitarou-sama, his wife and the young Lady Amaya. They were traveling back to the North from business with the South, and rescued me. It was around that time that the Lady Yoshe was kidnapped. Asahitarou-sama sensed his mother’s kidnapping, and tried to leave to aid his father, who had transformed into his dog demon form and went after his kidnapped mate. But Hisae-sama, his wife, begged to go with him. And so they entrusted the young Amaya with me and left us with a soldier who took us to the Western Lands.” The Kitsune female stayed silent for a few moments, chest and shoulders shaking. “Nakago was slain, by Lord Toyoharu, but at a cost. Lady Yoshe, Asahitarou-sama, and Hisae-sama were all killed during the fight.” Kagome rubbed soothing circles into the young girl’s back as she broke into uncontrollable sobs, suppressing her own sobs as her tears stained both their kimonos. Sanyu took a shuddering breath, straightening her spine and wiping her tears in vain. “I swore from that day on that I would serve Lord Toyoharu, to repay the debt I owed to Asahitarou-sama and Hisae-sama.”
And there, standing at the doorway that Sanyu had just disappeared in, was the object of her thoughts. Standing there in all his silver-haired glory, her unconscious smile faded at his expression. His eyes were wide with worry, golden orbs flashing with concern. His mouth hung open slightly, his stance awkward. He looked as though he had taken a step forward, but froze mid step. She whispered his name brokenly, and that seemed to break the Taiyoukai out of his trance. He jerked a bit, then composed himself, and Kagome closed her eyes to stop the tears.
The next thing she knew, she was in the arms of a certain golden-eyed Taiyoukai, sobbing brokenly into his chest. She gave a shuddering sigh as he tightened an arm around her and ran the other through her hair. Quieting down, she eased her arms around his torso and clung to him desperately. Whimpering when he disentangled himself from her, she quieted down as he lowered his face to hers, searching her sad cerulean depths. He cupped her face with both hands and brushed the tears away gently with his thumbs. His searching gold eyes blinked as she whispered a single name.
“Sanyu.” He nodded in understanding, and she briefly wondered if he knew the Kitsune’s history as well, or just figured she was once again empathizing too much. She found she didn’t care which one it was, and instead opted for snuggling closer. He nuzzled her cheek with his in response, then rested his forehead upon hers once again.
“Tears somehow become you, but I prefer my Kagome to smile.” A smile of his own slowly spreading across his face, he closed his eyes and dipped his head. The teary miko smiled softly and met him halfway for a tender kiss that soothed her saddened soul. The cold in her heart faded away as the warmth from Sesshoumaru seeped in. Distracted by Sesshoumaru’s tenderness, Kagome smiled against the Taiyoukai’s lips, her heart singing.
“There must be more information on the mating of a Miko and Youkai,” he said quietly, frustration coloring his tone. “Sesshoumaru’s youkai might take control and kill Kagome, or Kagome’s power could purify Sesshoumaru.” Toyoharu glanced down into the cup of tea he held. “And Kagome..” He froze, staring down at his reflection in the tea. “Kagome..” Remembering Sesshoumaru’s rather hurried leave, he began to laugh. “That’s what he was saying! Kagome! He took off like that because of Kagome!” Eyes tearing up from his laughter, he looked out the window and up to the sky. “Inu no Taisho, my old friend. If only you could see your son. He’s finally fallen, and boy I tell you, he’s fallen hard.”
‘So beautiful, my Kagome. So small, so fragile and slender. But you are strong, powerful.. And yet, you are humble. So very kind and caring. What have I, the cold and ruthless demon, done to deserve the friendship and care of one such as you?’ A half-smile began to spread upon his lips. ‘However, I no longer am satisfied with friendship. I crave more, need more. I want you, Kagome, for my own. You shall be mine and mine alone. As my mate.. As my love.’ Leaning over her body, he placed a soft kiss on her lush lips, eyes closing as her hands slid around his neck. In her sleep, she kissed him back, murmuring his name on his very lips.
Sesshoumaru growled contentedly, not minding the death grip she had on him. Slipping onto the futon next to her, he slid his arms around her waist and pulled her close, relishing in her scent and warmth. Letting the scent of sakura blossoms, sunshine, and dew; heavily mixed with his own spicy, thunderstorm scent; wash over his senses, his eyes drifted shut. Before sleep claimed him, he had but one thought, that this was real happiness; to be in the arms of the one you loved.
“Lord Sesshoumaru is in love with Lady Kagome?” Rin must have nodded, because the Northern heiress immediately followed that question with another. “Does she love him?” It was completely silent for a few seconds before the other girl answered.
“I’m not too sure, but I think so.”
“Does she act differently around Lord Sesshoumaru? Is she extra nice?”
“Well, Kagome is always nice, and to everyone too. But I have seen them do things together.”
“What things?!” Amaya’s voice was growing with volume and she was immediately shushed by Rin.
“Shh! Do you want to wake Mareo?” A rustle that the ‘sleeping’ violet-eyed man took as Amaya shaking her head.
“Ever since she came back to Japan with Lord Sesshoumaru, they’ve been spending a lot of time together. They take walks together, stay out late at night in the gardens together. And lately they’ve been doing more. I’ve seen them holding each other, holding hands, and I even caught them kissing!”
“Kissing? My gosh, why don’t they just mate already?!” Mareo choked at this, but managed to pass it off as a sleepy cough. He waited patiently as a few minutes passed by silently. “Yeah, he’s still asleep. Do you want them to become mates?”
“Yes. Even before Kagome disappeared to China, before she became famous for killing Naraku... I’ve secretly wanted her to be my Okaasan. When Lord Sesshoumaru and his Hanyou brother Inuyasha fought, Kagome was always there. She was always so nice to me, and cared about me, even though I was on her enemy’s side. Even though Lord Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha were rivals, Kagome tried to be kind to Lord Sesshoumaru. It was she that allied them before the final battle with Naraku.” It was silent for a little while.
“Grandfather has said that Kagome is good for Lord Sesshoumaru. And I’ve heard him talking about some prophecy..”
“A prophecy?”
“Yeah.” Mareo tuned out the rest of the conversation, mind reeling with information. So, they were in love. And apparently, had something to do with a prophecy. He’d have to do some digging around.
And btw, don’t worry about that trip! I might not even be going now, my uncle has to wait to be approved for his vacation. Besides, I really don’t wanna go. I wanna stay here and be lazy.. And write for all of you of course!
And I’ve got an important question. When I put song lyrics into a chapter, do you guys just glance over them? Or really read them? Cuz they’re usually very important. Or play an important part. Just wondering, cuz then I might just leave out the Japanese part out and just put in the English. But you should really look all these songs up. They’re good!
Thank you all for reading and reviewing and supporting me all this time. I really do love you guys. I hope everyone is having a fun summer. Take cares.

Kagome watched silently as Sanyu hurried back to the palace to clean up and tend to her duties, a watery smile on her face. Staring at the darker patches of blue on the sleeve of her midnight blue kimono, she sighed and dabbed at her eyes, creating more of those dark patches. Tilting her head back, she looked up at the bright sky, wondering how the world went on when heartbreak and pain tortured and broke souls. Feeling sadness well up in her chest and tell-tale tightening of her throat, she looked towards the palace, wishing for Sesshoumaru. She looked down at her lap, wondering why she suddenly wanted him to comfort her. A half-smile formed on her lips as she realized that he was her number one comfort. Somehow, his very presence eased her worries and smoothed the creases that marred her happiness. Tears rolling down her cheeks silently, she looked up.And there, standing at the doorway that Sanyu had just disappeared in, was the object of her thoughts. Toyoharu stared dismally at his office doors. Now he’d have to replace them. Sesshoumaru hadn’t bothered to slide them open, instead he’d crashed right through it. Sighing, he wondered why Sesshoumaru had run off like that. They’d been discussing issues when the younger of the two Lords had bolted up, eyes wide and distraught. The western Lord had mouthed something, but Toyoharu had been to slow to catch it. Shaking his head, he pulled out a scroll from beneath the table. Scanning the contents, he sighed again as it revealed no more information than it did before.“There must be more information on the mating of a Miko and Youkai,” he said quietly, frustration coloring his tone. Sesshoumaru fought back the urge to sneeze as his nose began to itch. He smothered the urge by nuzzling the neck of the miko he held in his arms. She’d fallen asleep while crying into his chest, a small smile on her lips left from his last lingering kiss. Rising from the bench, he strode back into the palace, and climbed up the stairs to the room Kagome was staying in. Placing her gently upon the futon, he lay beside her for a moment, stroking her cheek with a clawed hand gently. Searching for the tiny, delicate hand amongst the midnight blue folds of her wide sleeves, he wound his fingers around hers and stroked the back of her hand with his thumb. Lifting her hand, he kissed her soft skin, smooth yet strong and humming with power. Gazing down at her, his thoughts began to wander.‘So beautiful, my Kagome. So small, so fragile and slender. But you are strong, powerful.. And yet, you are humble. So very kind and caring. Mareo sighed wearily, head in hands as he sat on the floor of they young Lady Amaya’s balcony while the Northern Heiress and Western Lord’s ward tried on new kimonos. Their endless chatter was causing his brain to fry, and he, for one, did not like his brains fried. Stretching out on his side, he lay facing the balcony rail, pretending to be asleep so as to hope for some courtesy from the girls, for sleeping men did need silence, did they not? A grin broke out on his face when silence fell momentarily, followed by hushed whispers. It was silent again for some time afterwards, but his eyes shot open when his demon hearing caught Amaya’s low whisper.“Lord Sesshoumaru is in love with Lady Kagome?” Rin must have nodded, because the Northern heiress immediately followed that question with another. “Does she love him?” It was completely silent for a few seconds before the other girl answered.
