A Deeper Destiny: Chapter Fifteen
Disclaimer: Inuyasha belongs to Rumiko Takahashi. Of course, me and her are best friends, so I get to take him home once in a while. ^_^ Jia Ren Qu [The Beauty Song] is performed by Ziyi Zhang. Yura Yura is performed by Every Little Thing. I don’t own Inuyasha or either of the songs.
Kagome rolled over, groaning as her eyes came into contact with bright morning sunshine. Burying her face into the pillow, she lay still for a few moments before turning over and sitting up slowly. The bathing yukata she’d fallen asleep in hung open, and she lazily tied it closed. Yawning, she stretched and got up, slipping into the more appropriate sleeping robe and gathering a set of clothes to change into. Stumbling over to the door, she slid it open, only to be greeted by a kneeling servant.
“Ano... Good morning.” Kagome greeted hesitantly.
“A good morning to you as well, Kagome-sama. I am Chie, and I shall be escorting you to the bathing chambers.” The young, black-haired girl got up slowly and turned to the left of the corridor. “If you will follow me,” Kagome nodded and shut her bedroom door before following the girl.
Lowering herself into the steaming tub of water, Kagome sighed in pleasure. Chie placed a stack of towels and her clothes for today on a table nearby. She then excused herself and left the room. Kagome sunk further into the warm water, only to straighten when she heard the door slide open again.
“Is there something wrong, Chie?” She questioned without turning around.
“My apologies, Kagome-sama, Chie has left. I am Sanyu and I shall tend to you during your bath.” Kagome nodded numbly as this new girl stepped forward and began tossing momo blossoms into the water. Kagome studied the girl from beneath her eyelashes, taking in the long, copper-colored hair put up in a pretty bun and the pale skin that complimented her jade green eyes. Pointed ears showed her physically that this girl was a demon, but Kagome already knew that, her miko had sensed it earlier. Sanyu had kept her eyes lowered the entire time, but when her eyes flickered up to look at Kagome, jade green met sapphire blue.
“Forgive me, Kagome-sama, for my bold discourtesy.” Sanyu bowed low, face red with embarrassment.
“You did me no offense. Please, do not bow.” The girl meekly did as she was told. “If I may ask, you are Kitsune, are you not?” Sanyu’s eyes widened a little, but she nodded. Kagome smiled longingly, looking up at the ceiling. Catching the curiosity in the young girl’s eyes, she chuckled and smiled politely. “I asked, you see, because you remind me very much of a kit that once called me his mother.” Sanyu’s eyes widened in understanding.
“Ah, you mean the young Kitsune Shippo? I’ve heard all about your journey with him, the Hanyou, the demon slayer and the monk.” Excitement fading from her voice, she lowered her head in shame. “Forgive me, I should not have brought up bitter memories.”
“No, no, my dear. For they were never bitter memories, but happy ones.” That said, she stood, and reached to grab a towel, but was beaten by Sanyu. Giving in reluctantly, she stepped out and allowed the girl to towel her dry. After refusing the girl’s help in vain, she was soon dressed in the ivory kimono she had picked out, embroidered with blossoms of amaranth pink. A matching obi of matte texture was tied around her waist, followed by a cream colored obijime. She was then sat upon a stool, where her wet hair was brushed. As Sanyu finished combing, she moved to get up, but was halted by a firm hand on her shoulder. Eyebrow arched, she settled back down, pretending to sigh in irritation. The Kitsune female only smiled and began arranging the Miko’s long, raven tresses in loops and buns. But when Sanyu began placing the unused momo blossoms into her hair, Kagome spoke up.
“Sanyu, they’ll only fall out, there’s no need to do that.”
“Ah, but you forget, Kagome-sama, I am a Kitsune. Surely you have trust in my magic?” Kagome smiled, sapphire eyes twinkling. She liked this young Kitsune female.
“Patience, she will arrive soon enough.” Sesshoumaru held Toyoharu’s gaze steadily when he turned to address him.
“She?”
“Do not think to play me a fool, Sesshoumaru. It is the Lady Kagome you await so anxiously.” The Taiyoukai of the West arched a brow, remaining silent. “You hold interest for our legendary Miko, do you not?” He waited silently, continuing when it seemed he would receive no reply. “Your scent is heavy upon her, even after a day’s separation and baths. And her scent is strong upon you too.”
“Toyoharu, is Amaya converting you into a hopeless romantic as well? Though I do believe, you would probably be the more foolish of the two.” The elder Lord only chuckled harder.
“So defensive, Lord Sesshoumaru! You remind me of when you were just a pup! Ah, those days were ones of happiness.”
“Indeed.” Sesshoumaru looked away, growing uncomfortable with the topic of his childhood. He was saved from further talk when the scent of sakura blossoms, tinted with morning dew and sunshine, wafted into the room. His nostrils flared as he realized Kagome’s distinct scent was lightly veiled with the fragrance of peach blossoms. As though her scent had been a herald, the Miko of whom that aroma belonged to stepped into the dining room, cerulean eyes lit up and smile aglow.
“Sesshoumaru!” Her jubilant exclamation almost went unnoticed as the two Taiyoukai unconsciously stood, an instinctual reaction to the presence of someone of her strength and caliber, as well as her distinctive beauty. Sesshoumaru stood silently, drinking in the sight of his lovely miko. Yes, his miko. For she would belong to no other but himself.
“Ah, Lady Kagome! Good morning, my dear!” Kagome turned her attention on the Northern Taiyoukai, a slight blush in her cheeks.
“Forgive me for my discourtesy, Toyoharu-sama. Ohayo.”
“No, no, I’m sure you were startled seeing Sesshoumaru here.” Kagome’s gaze flickered to the golden-eyed Inu-Youkai momentarily.
“Ah, yes, a little.” Toyoharu marched over to her and ushered her to the table seating her next to Sesshoumaru.
“Sit, sit!” He urged them, putting hands upon both their shoulders. Timidly, Kagome sat down, gracefully folding her knees while Sesshoumaru sat in one fluid motion. Toyoharu grinned and returned to his seat, across the pair.
“You are looking quite stunning this morning, Lady Kagome. Especially with those momo blossoms in your hair.” Kagome blushed prettily, looking down at her lap.
“Arigato, Toyoharu-sama. But this is nothing more than the result of Sanyu‘s hard work. And please, just Kagome is fine. I deserve no title.”
“So modest! But as you wish, Kagome. But I will only refrain from using titles with you when in such company. I do not wish Amaya to pick up this habit. I take it you were pleased with Sanyu?” The miko nodded. “However, you cannot create what already exists; Sanyu only enhanced what was already there.” Kagome’s blush grew darker, and Sesshoumaru fought in vain to keep the corner of his mouth from quirking upwards. She was just so adorable when she blushed!
“But still, Sanyu is quite talented. I like her very much, she reminds me of Shippo.” Toyoharu nodded solemnly, the cheerful mood toned down a bit. Sesshoumaru curled his fist as he imagined the pain Kagome was probably feeling. Though he had not been her son by blood, he was her son by heart; and Sesshoumaru knew that the bond they shared ran deep. The awkward silence that had fallen between the three was broken by the arrival of a grumbling Mareo and the two young teens, who were busily chatting away. Breakfast proceeded in high spirits.
“Amaya here says that you sing frequently, in Japanese, Chinese and English.”
“It’s true Jii-chan! Rin told me about all of the songs she sang!” Kagome bit her cheek, knowing what would happen soon.
“Ano... I do sing, but I was not gifted with a beautiful voice.” To her surprise, it was Sesshoumaru who retorted.
“Ha! You, whose voice moves the heart of even the most cold-hearted men, not gifted?!” Kagome frowned at the smooth, even tone of his voice. He was just so damn full of it, wasn’t he?
“Will you grace us with a song, Lady Kagome?” Kagome looked towards Sesshoumaru, hoping for a scapegoat, but he merely returned her look with a raised brow. Rin’s and Amaya’s pleas drowned out her soft sigh.
“It has been a while since you last sang, Lady Kagome. And surely Lord Toyoharu is eager.” Kagome shot Mareo a dangerous look. He was only imagining those daggers, right? Mareo gulped as the image of Tetsuaiga pointed at his throat rose in his head.
“A short song, at least, would be nice, Lady Kagome.” The ice-blue eyed Lord offered, a small smile on his lips.
“I haven’t heard a song in Chinese yet, Kagome-chan,” Rin added, eyes bright and eager. Kagome smiled at the sight.
“Hmm.. A short, Chinese song... Oh! I have one! But,” she turned to Sesshoumaru, smiling sheepishly, “Lord Sesshoumaru has heard it once before.” The Western Taiyoukai shook his head.
“I do not mind a repeat performance,” he stated, a slight gleam in his eyes informing her that he was remembering the vents of that one morning she had sung this particular song.
“Very well then, Jia Ren Qu it is.” Closing her eyes slowly, she began to hum the tune. Her fingers softly drummed out the song as she parted her lips to sing;
Bei fang you jia ren
As her soft, yet steady voice slowly filled the room, the others looked on in silence.

Voice fading after the last lingering note, she slowly opened her eyes. She bowed her head modestly as the other clapped. Compliments went round, and the chatter continued. Sesshoumaru studied Toyoharu cautiously, perplexed by the Northern Lord’s solemn silence. He seemed to be in deep thought, and whatever he had on his mind was certainly troubling him. Sesshoumaru was startled when the gray-haired lord turned blazing icy blue eyes on him, his gaze piercing through him unnervingly.
“She is by no means, a method to increase this Sesshoumaru’s already unparalleled power.” Toyoharu’s icy blue eyes widened unimaginably as the hidden meaning of Sesshoumaru’s statement sunk in. Minutes went by as they sat in silence. Finally, Lord Toyoharu spoke.
“So you do intend to mate with Lady Kagome.”
“Goddamned top spy and head of special operations squadron and I get stuck babysitting the motor mouths.” Arms crossed and elbows resting on his knees, he glanced at the ‘motor mouths’ to make sure they didn’t hear his remark. Sighing in relief when they went on and on about some dress, he missed the quirked brow of the miko next to him. Shaking her head, she allowed the corners of her mouth to tilt up. Feeling the happiness bubble up from her chest, she broke into an all-out grin. Remembering the tune of an upbeat song she’d heard back in her time, she tilted her head back, glancing up at the pink-tinted magnolias in the tree above her. Squinting, she looked past the branches to the blue sky, eyes lighting up with joy and heart filled with images of Sesshoumaru.

Wide violet eyes, honey-brown eyes, and dark charcoal-gray eyes fell on the Miko with momo blossoms in her hair. Lips stilled and a bent back was straightened. It seemed as though even the wind itself stopped to listen to the Miko’s song.
Sesshoumaru froze as he just about to reply to Toyoharu. The unmistakable voice of Kagome drifted to them, light and cheery in her song. Toyoharu spun round and marched over to his window, where he pushed aside the beaded screens. Sesshoumaru joined him at his post and looked down upon the scene below him.
There, in the garden of magnolia trees, sat Kagome, on a bench, a rapt Mareo sitting next to her, Rin and Amaya listening with wide eyes and mouths on the bench a few feet away.

Sesshoumaru closed his eyes for a few seconds, remembering all the intimate moments he and Kagome had shared. His heart felt light as he remembered how she had smiled at him, and how that smile was solely for him and no other.

Tearing his eyes away from the beauty that was the Miko clad in pink and cream kimono, with amaranth-colored blossoms in her gleaming, black tresses, he looked at the pair of girls before letting his eyes fall on his warrior prodigy. Golden eyes narrowed as he took in the way the raven-haired Youkai stared at Kagome. Again, his face was lit with awe, but this time, his eyes didn’t hold that child-like wonderment. No, he was no longer like a child in awe. This time, he was a man who appreciated what he saw.
Sesshoumaru snapped his head to Toyoharu when the older Lord placed a hand on his shoulder. It was then that he realized he was growling, deep in his throat and steadily gaining volume. Silencing himself, his fists clenched tightly, eyes burning with a fiery intensity as he watched another male stare at what was his.

Sesshoumaru watched, face hardened, as the girls and Mareo clapped happily and Kagome blushed. Mareo was talking to her now, hand on her shoulder as he nodded enthusiastically. Kagome blushed deeper and shook her head. Stalking away from the window, he froze when Toyoharu’s voice rang out, low and even.
“After all these years, you’ve finally fallen in love.” Toyoharu, solemn and totally serious, held the Western Lord’s gaze steadily when the silver-haired Taiyoukai turned round slowly to confront him. Flickering gold and composed icy blue held for what felt to be ages before Sesshoumaru turned away, walking out the room resolutely.
“I swear, Lady Kagome, you have the loveliest voice I have ever heard.” The Miko shook her head, pinks tinted with a darkening pink. He chuckled, thinking her blush adorable. His smile widened into a grin when her face brightened into a smile, but it faded slightly as he realized she was looking over his shoulder and at someone else. He released her hand immediately when his Lord’s scent reached his nose. ‘Damn! He was down wind. No wonder I didn’t smell him earlier.’ Rising as the stately silver-haired Inu-Youkai stopped before them, he kneeled. “Good afternoon, my Lord.”
“Hn.” Rising, Mareo stood there awkwardly as Kagome smiled up at Sesshoumaru.
“Sesshou, are you done discussing business with Lord Toyoharu?” The Taiyoukai nodded and offered the pink and cream clad miko a clawed hand. She accepted it, and rose, twining her fingers with his.
“Mareo, stay with the girls. I expect you to be on full alert.” Mareo nodded. “Come, Kagome,” Sesshoumaru pulled her along with him, not even giving Mareo a second glance. Staying silent the entire way, Sesshoumaru led her to the grove of low-hanging magnolias on the other side of the wing, a good distance from prying eyes and a certain violet-eyed warrior.
Stopping at a round bench nestled around the trunk of a tree, he sat down and pulled Kagome onto his lap, letting her sit side-saddle. Leaning back against the trunk, he wound his arms around her and nuzzled his nose at her neck. The Miko in his lap smiled and put an arm around his neck, burying her fingers in the silky, silver tresses. Her other hand rose to cup his cheek gently.
“This isn’t like you; stealing me away like this.” Sesshoumaru didn’t reply, instead choosing to place a kiss on her collar bone. Kagome sighed happily and melted against him, laying her head on his shoulder. “So why did you steal me away?” She mumbled softly, enjoying his warm embrace.
“This Sesshoumaru longed for your company. Without the presence of others.” He added the last part before she could cut him off. “It has been a while since I have held you like this or filled my lungs with your scent.” He brought her face to his, their lips a mere breath’s width apart. “It has been even longer still since I have last tasted you,” he whispered against her lips before claiming them. One hand gripping her hip and the other tangled in her hair at the nape of her neck, he tilted her head back a little, chest vibrating with an approving growl as she parted her lips for him. The heat rising in their bodies spiked when Kagome met his probing tongue head on and fought for dominance. She squirmed in his lap, moving into the kiss hungrily. Sesshoumaru groaned into her mouth as his body began to react.
Kagome felt overwhelmed. Her heart wanted to burst at his affections, mind reeling at his tender words. But her body was something else. Her blood sang in her veins, thrumming with contentment and a strange urgency that made her body temperature rise. A blush rose in her cheeks as she remembered their encounter in the hot springs. But they were out in the open here, and in Lord Toyoharu’s garden no less. Focusing on the warm, fuzzy feelings in her heart, she sighed happily and snuggled closer to Sesshoumaru.
“Sesshoumaru,” she murmured contentedly. The Taiyoukai on the other hand, had been battling with his Youkai. Fighting against the arousal and the need to take his bitch as his Youkai demanded, he tensed when the miko in his arms mumbled his name lovingly. The shock hit both himself and his Youkai at the same time, causing both of them to soften. Mate needs love, not rut, was the last thing his Youkai said before receding. Sesshoumaru agreed whole-heartedly, a small smile on his lips as he rested his head upon hers, eyes closing at the tranquility of the moment.
A/N: I know, I know, chapter fifteen took F O R E V E R to be posted. I’m sorry everyone. But I worked overtime last night to finish as much as I could. I hope everyone is satisfied with this chapter. You like it, right? Right?
I would have finished this earlier, but I had work yesterday and I’ve been too emotionally drained. Two days out of school and already I’m heartbroken. I miss my friends. They were the people I saw everyday, the people who made me smile, made me laugh. The ones who brought morning to my never ending night. Gosh, I’m going deep again. >_<
Oh, by the way, I just wanted to give you all a heads up. I might be going to Cali later on during June and probably won’t be back till late July. Just letting you know, since I probably won’t have as much time to update as usual.
Wait! One more thing! I’m looking for an author to finish one of my other fics for me. It’s called West Under Winter Siege, and I’ve written three chapters for it. Go check it out and see if you’re interested. Thanks.
Well then, that’s all for now. A big, heartfelt thanks to all my readers and reviewers, who stuck it out and were so very patient. Thanks for being so supportive and kind. I love you guys! ^_^

Reflected in the pale sky,A treasure unexpectedlyJumped to me.
I went on wearing my pride,And the whole time I was sleeping,My composure started to falter.
Within the smoke,I searched with an antenna of loveFull of hope, it broke through the skyAnd showed me the light.
No one knows I go swimming,Wavering, through the blue stars.Proud, and like a flying bird,It's the miracle of playing with freedom.
A playful smile, And your intent gaze,I remember my heart beating fast.
Meeting you was The best future for a nobody like me.
I was wasting away, making half-hearted efforts,And missing out, uninterested in life,With nothing changing.
No one knows I go swimming,Wavering, through the blue stars. My feelings of love are with you,A miracle that I was reborn unclouded.
Within the smoke,I searched with an antenna of loveFull of hope, it broke through the skyAnd showed me the light.
Yet, although I'm sureUncertainty and sorrow won't go away...
As I wander, I will go swimming,Wavering in the blue stars,Proud, and like a flying birdIt's the miracle of playing with freedom.

Sesshoumaru glanced once more at the entryway of the Northern Palace’s dining hall. Drumming his claws on a thigh as he sat, kneeling at the table, he looked up as Toyoharu chuckled. Questioning gold met twinkling icy blue. The Taiyoukai of the North smiled and looked towards the entrance.“Patience, she will arrive soon enough.” Sesshoumaru held Toyoharu’s gaze steadily when he turned to address him.

Kagome dabbed at her mouth delicately, rising an eyebrow at Rin to do the same. The teen widened her eyes and immediately complied, earning a smile from her secretly self-proclaimed mother figure. “Do you know why I have summoned you, Sesshoumaru?” Toyoharu shifted on the cushion he sat on, staring heatedly at the younger Lord sitting across from him. When he received no reply, he huffed and placed a hand on the aged, yellowing scroll before him. With a flick of his wrist, the scroll rolled open. Golden eyes dropped to the ancient kanji, eyes steadily moving up and down the columns of text. When he had finished perusing the text, he looked up, face impassive, but not before Toyoharu caught the look of disappointment that had passed over his face. “I have no more information than you do, Sesshoumaru, regarding the mating of a miko and Youkai. That is what you came here for, is it not?” The younger of the two Lords remained silent. Anger rising, the Northern Taiyoukai practiced no restraint in his next few questions. “Do you plan to use her to increase your own power?! Do you still yearn to surpass your father and all Youkai alike in power?! Do you not understand the danger of mating her just for personal gain?!!” Breathing heavily, he watched, without fear, as crimson began to seep into Sesshoumaru’s eyes. He was surprised when Sesshoumaru replied evenly, just as he always did; even as his irises turned blue in his ruby-filled eyes.“She is by no means, a method to increase this Sesshoumaru’s already unparalleled power.” Toyoharu’s icy blue eyes widened unimaginably as the hidden meaning of Sesshoumaru’s statement sunk in. Minutes went by as they sat in silence. Finally, Lord Toyoharu spoke.
“So you do intend to mate with Lady Kagome.”

Kagome laughed behind her hand and shook her head as the girls incessant chatter took its toll on Mareo. The violet-eyed Inu-Youkai slumped further into himself, causing the miko sitting beside him to laugh harder. He tossed her a glare but it soon faded into an expression of utter hopelessness.“Goddamned top spy and head of special operations squadron and I get stuck babysitting the motor mouths.” Arms crossed and elbows resting on his knees, he glanced at the ‘motor mouths’ to make sure they didn’t hear his remark.

Mareo patted the small, slender hand he held.“I swear, Lady Kagome, you have the loveliest voice I have ever heard.” The Miko shook her head, pinks tinted with a darkening pink.

Narrowed violet eyes turned away from the touching scene, closing in something akin to pain.A/N: I know, I know, chapter fifteen took F O R E V E R to be posted.

Yura Yura
