After spending a good portion of the afternoon wrapped up in each others' arms Inu Yasha decided it was time they spoke. He carefully stood up as to not harm his wounds and suggested that they'd go on a walk together. Once they wandered out of the village and into the forest Inu Yasha stopped and turned to face Kagome. He asked her what had happened after he was rendered unconscious. Kagome said that all she knew was that the battle had been one and when she awoke she was alone in Kaede's hut sleeping next to Inu Yasha. A blush crept up her neck as she thought of how closely their beds had been placed together. Inu Yasha smiled inwardly at her innocence and embarrasment but refused to let his emotions show before hearing the end of her story. She continued to say that after she had treated his severe wounds she searched the village and found that Kaede, Miroku, and Sango were all gone. The village children told her that they had left saying it was best for her and the "dog boy's" sake. Hearing this Inu Yasha grew angry.
He began to growl. "Now now Inu Yasha, I'm sure they had a valid reason for leaving us here. They probaly had their own problems to deal with, after all Sango's brother Kohaku did die in the battle," Kagome said in an attempt to comfort Inu Yasha.
"Dog-boy eh? Hmph rotten kids," he murmured under his breath. Kagome began to laugh when she realized that he was mad about begin called a name by the local kids. Her laughter only caused his anger to escalate and eventually he grabbed her by the arms in order to make her stop. He pushed her up against a nearby tree and viciously kissed her lips. His possesion of her ended as abruptily as it began.
Kagome had no idea how to react to Inu Yasha's out of character actions. Her laughter stopped quickly as she thought, 'W-W-What just happened there?...Inu Yasha kissed me!...Wait, didn't he say he loved me during the battle?!? Maybe it was just the heat of the moment.' Inu Yasha watched the confused look on Kagome's face in confusion. He decided that he'd play with her for a little longer before restating how he felt about her. Though he wasn't sure if Kagome had remembered his declaration he knew that the kiss would keep her quiet for a bit.
"All right Kagome. Now we've got quite a lot to discuss here. There's the issue of what we should do now, and then there's the whole jewel thing."
"Inu Yasha I know that I still hadn't decided whether I want to stay here in the feudal era or return home to the future. But I've had three long weeks to think about it and even though it seems a bit weird you helped me make my decision. I know you were unconscious but for some reason having you there with me helped me feel more sure of myself and it helped me to clear my mind. (A/N: Anyone who had an unconscious Inu for 3 weeks would be happy!) And so, I've made my decision...remember that once we wish on the jewel I cannot pass through the well." Inu Yasha held his breath as he awaited Kagome's answer in a time span of what seemed an eternity. His patience was just about to run out when Kagome took a big breath and began to speak.
"I'm going to remain in the feudal era. I wrote my family a note explaining and droped it into the well, I hope it reaches them. I'll really miss them, but *she begins to cry* I kn-n-now that this-s-s is where I belong." (A/N: Sorry to interrupt again, but what if I choose to be really lazy and just have her choose her time and leave Inu behind forever? Would you all hate me? Okay back to the reading!) Inu Yasha released his breath and grinned at her decision. He knew it was hard for her but vowed to make it worth her while later. He reached towards her face and used his claw to brush away her tears. She blushed under his touch and soon after was able to stop crying.
"Kagome, I know that this is hard for you, but there's still the issue of the jewel. We have to make a wish and get rid of it before it causes anyone more pain.," He said in a way that he thought would comfort the young girl who had had too much to bear on her shoulders in the past and still so much now. He realized that when they first met he used to pity her, to think her weak. But as time went by he began to see that the emotional weights she carried were worse than any fight he had ever fought in, that's when he began to respect her. Maybe even when he began to start loving her.
"You've been so helpful to me Inu Yasha, and the jewel is now yours. You were the one who wanted the wish in the first place so I give you this to do you what you choose. I hope that life as a youkai will not change you," she turned away and Inu Yasha watched her shoulders shake as she began to cry again.
"Idiot," he said comfortingly, "Do you think you owe me anything? It's me who owes you the world. You opened me eyes Kagome, you changed me. And I love you, I would never change myself so much that I chance losing that. My relationship with you, even if you think of me as nothing more than a friend is more important to me than my life itself. I made a promise to protect you and I'm going to keep it."
"So-o-o-o what do we-e-e do then?" Kagome whimpered from behind fading tears.
"Anything you want Kagome, I will always be here for you, no matter what decision you choose to make."
"Thank you Inu Yasha," Kagome whispered appriciatively. She took the jewel necklace off of her neck and placed it close to her heart. She the proceede to glow a bright white, so pure that Inu Yasha had to shade his eyes from it. When the light disappeared Inu Yasha watched Kagome as floated back down to the ground, her hair began to fall back into place, and she landed with the utmost grace.
"It is done," she said happily. Inu Yasha wondered what she had wished for, but he didn't want to push her. If she wanted him to know, she would have told him earlier what her wish was. He knew that the day had been hard on her and he decided he would let her tell him when she was ready. He smiled at the woman he loved; and didn't even remember that he had decided that he was going to tease her before telling her, when he said for the third time, "I love you Kagome and no matter what I always will. I will always protect you. I promise, and I never break my promises."
He moved in towards her and was about to lean in for another kiss when a fast moving object broke them apart. Confused Inu Yasha looked down at his feet to see what had ruined their moment. To his surprise he saw an arrow that was still shaking from its impact with the ground. As fast as he possibly could he looked up and saw a woman sitting in the tree above them. Horrified he realized that she had heard the whole thing.
"You keep your promises, feh," she said with such an amount of anger that one would not think it was possible to possess. She spat at his feet as she notched her bow, "LIAR!" she screamed as she released an arrow aimed directly at a stunned Inu Yasha.

A/N: Well that's all for now. I hope I kept up with your expectations! Until next time.
