Chapter 2

New Beginnings

Kagome woke up sputtering and choking on water. Her eyes wouldn't open but her ears told her what was happening in the world. “Thank you Lord Sesshomaru. Rin thanks you a whole bunch!” The little girl that always travels with the demon lord exclaimed. “Don't be so happy Rin; I would never let a mortal die at the hands of my half-brother. This Sesshomaru actually will uphold the family honor.” Came a cold reply.

Jaken from what she could tell had entered the conversation by now. “Lord Sesshomaru, Why did you save this puny human, didn't she travel with Inuyasha, I mean why would you save one of our enemies' mi'lord?” `Jaken must have been completely oblivious to what Sesshomaru just said.' She thought. But to her surprise the Western Lord answered... “This miko may be one of Inuyashas friends but she is not OUR rival. She has courage and she maybe she can be useful.”

Rin piped in. “Plus she helped me find Lord Sesshomaru when Kagara kidnapped me. Kagome felt she had gathered the strength to open eyes now. She stirred slowly and fluttered her eyes open. Now once Rin saw this she gave Kagome a fair bear hug. Kagome grimaced against the child's strong hold but let her continue when she heard a spine chilling voice. “Ah, I see the BITCH has awakened...” Now at this comment…Kagome even thought that the Lord of the Western Lands pushed it too far. She sat up a little too quickly but she ignored the pain that shot through her. “Hey Buddy, my name is not Bitch or Wench or Miko…my name is KAGOME…KA-GOM-E.” But Kagome only heard the scream of Rin before Sesshomaru had a clawed hand to her throat. “You dare talk to this Sesshomaru like that…you are inferior to me so I can call you what ever I want!”While he was saying this he noticed no change of emotion in her eyes. He did not see the wanted fear he had hoped would be there. He only saw sadness and loss of hope. For some reason he felt sympathy for the girl that his brother had betrayed. He released her and started to walk away, when he heard the tinyest of whispers say… “ Thank you, Sesshomaru.” Kagome finished sentence and stood up with many struggles than started in the opposite direction. Only to fall again from her wounds. “Your in no condition to be wandering around.” Sesshomaru said with ice dripping from every word but inside he was concerned for the girl. Rin was fond of her and it wasn't like she had any reason to kill him…ok…that wasn't true…he had tried to kill Inuyasha many times before…but she wouldn't betry him….would she?? Her reply to his earlier comment brought him out of his thoughts. “Who cares…I have nothing to live for anymore… and Inuyasha surly doesn't want me back, I'm only his shard detector…he could care less if I got hurt….he doesn't love me…..” Kagome couldn't finish the sentence because of her sandpaper throat. “Kagome do you not like me, you could be like my big sister, then you would have a reason to live, wouldn't you have something to live for then?” Rin asked. “Its…Its not that easy Rin….my soul and heart are shattered and I don't think it can be put back together again…” Kagome forced out. “that's why you can come and live with me and mi'lord , I could help you pick up the pieces of your life……please Kagome-chan please say yes!!” Rin pleaded . Kagome merely look at Sesshomaru for approval. “You may stay with us as long as you need Kagome.” Sesshomaru answer. “Well the Lord has spoken, I guess that means I am coming Rin.” “YAY!!!!” Rin cried happily while leading Kagome to the two-headed dragon Ah-Un. Sesshomaru formed his demonic cloud as he and Jaken lifted off the ground. And all together they rode to the Western Lords Castle.

*He eyes her coldly* Fine you win.
