Chapter 10

How could things go so wrong?

2 weeks. How could things go so wrong in two weeks? Kagome sat there at what was left of the shrine gazing at four statues with a polished plaque beneath them that read. “In loving memory of Nusha, Nani, Souta, and Coso Higarashi. May the souls rest in peace.” `My name should be there too.' Kagome thought. She had been the only one, although it was still a mystery about how she did, to survive the attack. She was released from the hospital today to be at her family's funeral. She put Forget-Me-Not flowers on all their graves….but it was clear that Souta had more than anyone. `Souta…it was my job to protect you….Dad told me….and I have failed both of you.' She went to her knees, despite the pain, and cried. “Why me? Why me?” She cried. Then a sudden voice caught her attention. “Why you what Lady Kagome?” It was Rin. Kagome turned around to see Sesshomaru and Rin. Obviously Jaken couldn't get through the well. “You know Sessho….you just missed one hell of a party….” Kagome tried to joke but sadness laced every word. Sesshomaru glanced at the plaque. `That must have been her family….' “Sessho…….” Kagome began as she dragged him out of his thoughts. “Could I……” She stopped. “Can you what?” He asked. “CouldIcomelivewithyouinthefedualera?” She said in one breath. “I am sorry I could not understand….what did you say?” Sesshomaru asked. “Can I….well…..come and…..live with you in the feudal era?” Kagome tensed when she got no answer. “Of coarse it's no problem, If I cant I can get an apartment and….” “Yes you can…” “HUH!?!?!” Kagome said as she spun around. “I said `yes.'” He repeated. Kagome just kinda stood there. Her face in awe. She uttered one word…”Why?” Sesshomaru was kinda thrown of guard by that one. But answered anyway. “Because you have no where else to go and….” He stopped. “And what Sessho?” Kagome asked. “And because I consider you my friend.” Sesshomaru was surprised at his own answer but knew he gave the right one when he was squeezed into a hug. “Thank you Thank you Thank you Sessho….” Kagome muffled through his shirt. “You have no idea what that means to me.” “Well, Lady Kagome we better get going, Jaken-sama is probably having a fit because we were gone so long.” Rin giggled. “Yeah your right.” Kagome let go of Sesshomaru and lead Rin to the well with one last prayer to her family. Everybody jumped in to start a new life with each other.
