Sorry I haven't posted in so long, the creativity just wasn't there and I started a new job and life is hectic. The biggest reason is my computer monitor went out and I had to get another one. But thank you for all the wonderful reviews, keep them coming and I promise to get better at posting more often! And now, what you've been waiting for……

Chapter 5: Aftermath

"Kagome-chan! There you are! I've been so worried about you!" Shippo ran up to Kagome on the trail.

Kagome smiled "I'm okay, Shippo. I just went for a walk with Inuyasha."

"Well I wanted to tell you good night before bed" Shippo explained, hopping into Kagome's arms.

"Alright then, let's get you to bed" Kagome smiled and glanced over at Inuyasha and they started down the trail into the village where the night's festivities were coming to a close. Several people greeted them on their way to Kaede's hut. Kaede had retired to bed a while earlier and lay sleeping on her mat in a corner of the hut. Kagome quietly made her way to her mat and laid Shippo on it. "Good night, Shippo, sleep well. I'm going to talk with Inuyasha for a bit, okay?" Kagome kissed Shippo on his cheek and he laid down.

"G'night, Kagome." Shippo nodded and settled into the covers with a knowing smile as Kagome turned and walked out of the hut. Inuyasha was waiting when Kagome stepped through the door. He took Kagome's hand and they walked toward the forest outside the village. Inuyasha's destination was the Goshimboku or "God Tree" where he was pinned for fifty years. The moon was still shining bright as Inuyasha took Kagome into his arms and leapt to a sturdy branch about twenty feet off the ground.

"Wow" Kagome giggled, breathless. Inuyasha smiled and settled back against the tree, Kagome in his lap. "So, Inuyasha, you said you wanted me to stay here with you, right? Kagome looked up at Inuyasha.

"Yes" Inuyasha looked down at Kagome and smiled. "You can still go back to see you family and go to your school, as long as you come back to me."

Kagome smiled "I'm almost done with school, Inuyasha-only a few more weeks. I would like to see my family though. I'll always come back to you." Kagome leaned back into Inuyasha's embrace. He kissed her forehead gently. "The view from up here is amazing." Kagome looked around at her surroundings. The moonlight reflecting off the trees in the forest gave the world almost a magical glow, soft and light. She sighed with happiness.

The two sat high in the tree in silence for a while until Inuyasha noticed Kagome had fallen asleep. Her breath was even and her face was relaxed and peaceful. `She is so beautiful' Inuyasha smiled. `How do I deserve her?' Inuyasha sat back and watched as the first rays of dawn shattered the darkness of the night.
