InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ A Mother For Rin ❯ Awaken my sweet angel ( Chapter 20 )

The morning light shone through the window waking those within to the new day. The two inuyoukai within the rooms were the first to awaken while the hanyou and fox kit continued to sleep soundly beside the unconscious miko. As Sesshoumaru felt the tiny human body nestled within his clothing begin to stir he began to softly call to her, repeating her name softly and gently like a mantra that held great power.
“Rin,” his called to the girl softly as he looked down upon her tiny angelic face. “Rin…Rin awaken to me,” he called his voice hopeful as he looked down, his concentration on her and her alone, uncaring of the others in the room with him. “Rin…Rin my sweet girl open your eyes,” he used one arm to support her underneath her body as he held her snuggled within his clothing, the opposite hand brushing her delicate cheek with gentle care. “Rin…Rin…pappa's here Rin.”
“Nnn…Pa…ppa,” a tiny soft voice answered after a few long moments. “Pappa,” she called again as her eyes fluttered open.
She felt warm and safe, Rin thought as her mind began to register the world around her though her eyes remained closed. It was then she heard it, that voice was calling to her. She knew that voice, that smooth deep voice. She'd never heard such emotion in the voice before, even when he had spoken proudly to her before. But this voice, she knew this voice to belong to Sesshoumaru-sama, to her pappa.
“Pappa,” she called once again as her eyes finally opened.
She looked up. It was no dream; her father's face was looking back at her, his golden eyes as warm as the sun as he smiled down upon her softly. It was then she realized that the comforting warmth came from him. She was nestled inside his clothing like an infant. Her pappa had come back to her, it wasn't a dream. But then she had to wonder, what had she done wrong that he had seemingly left her in the first place. That single thought caused the beginnings of her happy smile to turn into a frightened frown.
“Rin?” Sesshoumaru said as the smile left his face as he noticed her upset. “What is wrong Rin?” he asked as he continued to hold her nestled in his clothing.
“What did Rin do wrong?” she questioned desperately needing to know the answer.
“You have done nothing wrong my angel,” he said softly to her as he bent his head to kiss her brow. “This Sesshoumaru was in the wrong. I am sorry Rin, for pushing you away when you needed me.”
“Why did Pappa push Rin away?” she asked as she looked up at him, one tiny weak hand coming up to touch his face as he frowned. “Pappa?”
“Rin, I know not how to explain this to you. So it is difficult for me to say.”
“Does Sesshoumaru-sama want Rin to…to leave?” she asked her eyes downcast.
“No,” he said harshly as he crushed her tiny body to his chest. “I do not want you to ever leave me Rin.”
As he was just about to try and explain to her why he had done what he had done they both as well as Tiynoko heard a heavy panting and the beginning of painful whimpers coming from the unconscious miko. The three watched desperately, hopefully as Kagome's face twisted into a painful frown and her dry lips parted as her eyes began to move quickly beneath their closed lids.
“That's it Little Mother,” Tiynoko said as he came to the side opposite where the hanyou and kitsune kit were sleeping against her. “That's it, wake up,” he spoke softly to her, coaching her into the waking world.
“Nnnngghhhh,” she moaned out long and painful, whimpering and panting as her eyes finally opened and the pounding in her head attacking her senses.
Her lips began to form words but no sound accompanied it and Tiynoko and Sesshoumaru looked on as they watched her adjust to the waking world. They could both hear her sounds and soft cries of pain as she tried to suppress them, and both began to hear the softly chanted words as she awakened fully for the first time in nearly a month.
“Shippou. Where's my pup?” she chanted her voice barely audible even to them.
“He sleeps beside you Little Mother,” Tiynoko answered softly and watched as her eyes searched out the pup. “Pup,” Tiynoko called to Shippou softly and the sleeping kit began to awaken. “Show yourself to you mother,” he commanded softly once the kit was awake and looking at him. “Calm her.”
“Mamma?” Shippou questioned softly barely daring to hope that the woman might be awake.
“Shippou?” he heard her say softly and he rose to stand next her face.
“I'm here mamma,” he said softly, his voice and face smiling as he looked down into her tired and pain filled grey blue eyes.
“Shippou?” she called again searching him out.
“I'm here mamma,” he said again as her eyes finally met his.
“Shippou,” she said as a smile came to her lips, one that quickly turned into a grimace as fire raced through her body when she tried to move her arms to hug him.
“Mamma!” Shippou cried alarmed when he saw her face contorted in pain, his cry waking the hanyou.
“Kagome?” Inuyasha said as he sat up and looked at her, finding her awake and in pain.
“I'm alright Shippou,” she said her voice barely audible as she spoke the soft lie meant to comfort the distressed kit.
It hurt her a great deal, but she ignored the pain as she lifted her arms to hug the child to her. It took a great effort on her part to move the kit from standing next to her neck to lying upon her chest, the move difficult because of her own pain as well as the action of moving the child after not using her arms in so long, her muscles weak.
Kagome held back the cries of pain building in her throat and bit back the grimaces that would show her pain as she hugged him gently to her chest. His weight upon her chest alone was enough to send waves of agony throughout her body but she ignored every one just to hold him and comfort him.
“Are you alright Shippou?” she asked her voice soft and concerned as she did her best to keep it from cracking.
“I'm fine mamma…my head hurts though,” he said softly as the throbbing in his head once again roared to life nearly causing him to blackout.
He was glad to be lying upon her chest, held in her arms. The kit knew if he had been standing he would have fallen over and more than likely would have passed out, but here he could simply lay upon her and let her hold him. She would tell him if he was hurting her wouldn't he? He thought as he wondered if it hurt to have him lying upon her.
“I'm glad you're alright,” she said softly as she moved her hand to stroke his loose hair and pet his fluffy tail. “We'll see if somebody can make you a tea to make the pain go away Shippou,” she said softly to him.
“What about you mamma?” the kit asked worriedly as he turned his head to look up at her, only succeeding in seeing the underside of her jaw.
“Don't worry about me Shippou. I'm alright,” she said softly as her vision began to blur.
“Keep her awake,” Tiynoko spoke in a whisper to Inuyasha, knowing the hanyou would hear him.
Inuyasha nodded and watched as Tiynoko left the room to prepare her a tea to take away her pain and help speed her healing as well as to give her strength. He also prepared one for the kit, having a feeling that if it were left up to her and he brought only one cup of tea in, she would give hers to her pup instead of drinking it herself.
Kagome bit back tears of pain as she felt her pup shift upon her chest, every movement hurting. She could feel herself beginning to drift back to sleep and welcomed the comforting darkness; there was no pain in the darkness.
“No Kagome,” Inuyasha said softly as he stroked her cheek gently with his hand, commanding her attention to him. “You need to stay awake.”
She looked desperately at the hanyou, begging him with her eyes to let her sleep. It hurt so much to be awake, she just wanted to sleep. She was so tired.
“I'm sorry Kagome,” he whispered softly as he leant over and kissed her parched lips, dragging his tongue across them until they were dampened and soft once more before pulling away and sitting back on the floor. He moved over to her, sitting behind her head and lifted her head to rest on his folded legs and in his lap as he sat cross legged behind her head. “You need to stay awake just a while longer. Ok?” he said and felt like a heel for the painful silent begging he saw in her eyes. “I'm sorry,” he said and bent himself over to kiss her brow before sitting back up and stroking her hair gently away from her face. “You really need to stay awake.”
It was a painful thirty minutes later that Tiynoko returned with a tea for her as well as for her pup. It was hard to get her to drink the tea, the liquid burning her parched throat though the liquid had been cooled. Inuyasha had moved Kagome to cradle her in his arms as she sat in his lap when Tiynoko had come in and it was nearly a fight to get her to drink the tea.
“Little mother, I know the taste is unpleasant but you must drink it,” the healer said to her.
As he lifted the cup to her lips she again pushed it away, the smell nauseating her and the liquid itself feeling like liquid fire as it went down her throat. Inuyasha finally took the cup from Tiynoko and took a great drink of it, holding the liquid in his mouth as he brought his lips to Kagome's and sealed their mouths together, using his tongue to open her mouth and guide the tea into her. She whimpered painfully as she was forced to drink down the tea, all she wanted to do was sleep and they wouldn't let her, she thought desperately.
“I'm sorry baby, I know it hurts,” Inuyasha spoke into her neck as he held her to him after getting her to drink the mouthful. “But you gotta do it; it's the only way to make you better.”
Inuyasha again took a drink of the tea and then once more placed his lips against hers and kissed the liquid into her, repeating the action until the tea was gone. Brushing her hair away from her face he kissed her neck and held her in his arms as sat next to his brother as they both leaned against the wall, each holding a human in their arms.
“It's all gone baby,” Inuyasha spoke softly to her as he stroked her hair away from her face. “You don't have to drink anymore.” He smiled softly down on her and noticed her eyes diverted to his brother, or rather his brother's clothing and looked to see Rin looking at her from inside her father's haori.
“Rin,” Kagome said softly as she looked upon the tiny child.
“Mamma?” Rin asked softly and Kagome smiled as she fell back into a deep sleep, her eyes fluttering closed.
“Will mamma be alright?” Shippou asked the healer as he drank down his own tea.
“Yes pup, she'll be alright. The worst is over now.”
