InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ A New Future ❯ Silent Walks and Midnight Talks ( Chapter 3 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
I know chapters 1 and 2 along with my first story A Demon’s Love were short and just ok written. You’ll have to excuse that as they are old. But years later I’ve decided to finish the story. AS always I admit that I do not own Inuyasha….well I do but I don’t think they count the DVDs.
Chapter 3: Silent Walks and Midnight Talks
As the group walked along the first few hours were quiet. The arrival of their future children had affected everyone in different ways. Miroku was quietly hid his excitement. On occasion he let a small smile slip thinking of how he and Sango would one day not only have the son he had been dreaming of but a daughter as well. Sango was just as excited but yet very nervous. She wondered what kind of mother she was going to be. Miroku sensed her worry and held her hand as they walked. Sango smiled as this put her worries at ease.
Inuyasha was not as pleased though. He walked slightly behind the others in silent shame. Only a few hours ago everything was perfect. Naraku was dead, and he and Kagome were finally going to begin their life together. But how could things have changed so much in the future. He couldn’t understand how his future son was with Kikyo and not Kagome. He looked up at Kyu. What had happened? Then he glanced over at Kai. Suddenly he felt a small amount of anger. She must be Koga’s daughter. If not then whose? Why wouldn’t she say? What did she have to hide? Inuyasha’s mind was filled with these questions and more. Kai glanced at Inuyasha and looked back. She had Kagome’s eyes. This made him think about Kagome and the look on her face when she found out the truth about the teens. His shame returned. He looked back at Kagome who was walking very far behind the rest. He could see the pain on her face and wanted to comfort her. But what could he say? What could he do?
Kagome looked up and caught Inuyasha’s eyes. She immediately looked back at the ground. Tears began to fill her eyes once more as she thought on what she had heard. Like Inuyasha, her head was filled with unanswered questions. She wondered if she had pushed Inuyasha away.
Her thoughts were suddenly interrupted when she realized Kai was standing right in front of her. “You’re falling behind.” She said with a cold tone. “I’m sorry. I was just thinking.” Kagome smiled to avoid showing Kai how upset she was. She began to feel nervous as it was obvious by Kai’s expression that it was not working. “Try to keep up. We wouldn’t want anything to happen to you now would we, mother” Kagome was surprised by her tone. The way she had said mother sounded as if she hated her. Kagome caught up with the others her mind filled with more questions than before.
Later, as everyone slept, Kagome tossed and turned. Finally she opened her eyes coming to terms with the fact she was not getting any sleep. She looked around. Siroku and Sano were sound asleep next to Miroku and Sango. The looked like such a happy family. Who knew Miroku was actually the fatherly type. She looked over at Kyu who was sleeping on the opposite side of a tree as Inuyasha. The pair looked almost identical in the way the slept. But as she looked around she noticed Kai was nowhere to be found.
Kagome stood as she looked around for Kai. Finally she looked up in frustration and saw her sitting in the branches of a nearby tree. She walked over determined to talk to her. But the closer she got the more nervous she became. She had no idea what to say. “What do you want” This sentence startled Kagome as she realized thinking time was over she would now have to talk. “I wanted to say hi”. Kai snorted and Kagome didn’t blame her. Hi? That was the best that she could come up with? Really?! “Well hi” Kagome took in a deep breath. She was going to get some answers if not all the answers to the questions that had kept her awake. “Kai why are you so cold towards me? Is it because I was shocked to find out Kyu was Kikyo’s son?” Kai seemed angered by this question. She jumped down from the tree and stared into Kagome’s eyes intensely. “Why? I’ll tell you why. Unlike Kyu, Sano, and Siroku; my childhood was not that happy. You hated me from the moment I was born. That’s why” Kagome though puzzled decided not to push the subject any further. Kai felt relieved to get that off her chest. She had that building up since the moment she had seen her mother. “Now go to sleep. We have a lot of work to do” Kai turned and returned to the branch she had previously been on. Kagome returned to her sleeping bag. She closed her eyes. As she began to fall asleep she hoped that tomorrow she would get some real answers.
I hope you guys enjoyed the story so far. I’m excited to be finishing this story finally. Please review and let me know how I am doing so far. ^_^
