Been a long time I know. But once again I’m back with a new chapter. I hope to release a new chapter every week or more. As always I don’t own any part of Inuyasha.
Chapter 5: Mysterious Woman of the Woods
Kai rose to her feet. The gang readied themselves for a fight. Naraku only had three jewel shards and was not at full strength yet. If there was ever an opportunity to stop him it was now. Inuyasha unsheathed his Tetsusaiga and prepared for battle. “Calm yourself, Inuyasha”, said Naraku, “I’m not here for you”. Naraku smiled as his eyes narrowed on Kai. She stared directly into his eyes showing no signs of fear. “What do you want with me” Naraku gave a small laugh and began to slowly walk towards her.
“All in good time child”. Naraku darted quickly in Kai’s direction. Kai was able to dodge him, and the other’s began their attack. Naraku dodged every blow. Though not at full power, he was able to anticipate every attack. Kyu was quickly becoming concerned. Kai had been different since the full moon. She had become slower and weaker. This was highly unusual. Kai had noticed it too. She was quickly becoming tired. What was wrong? She had never felt this way after a full moon. His thoughts were quickly broken by a hard blow from Naraku. She landed hard to the ground. AS she tried to stand back up everything began to go black. “Kai, we’re coming” yelled Sano. Kagome began to rush to the unconscious Kai but was knocked into the air by Naraku. Inuyasha dove to catch her. “I’m okay, get Kai” Inuyasha looked up but saw he was already too late. Naraku held Kai in his arms and disappeared in a cloud of dark purple smoke.
Kyu rushed to the smoke but found nothing. He turned his anger onto Inuyasha. “You should have done something to stop him” “Kyu, stop it’s not his fault” Sano rested his hand on Kyu’s shoulder. “It’s ok we’ll find her” said Siroku.
Kai opened her eyes slowly. Everything was blurry. She could barely see a thing. She tried to move her arms but found she was bound by chains. She tried to break free but discovered she didn’t have the strength. What was going on? “It is useless to try to break free you have been poisoned” Kai strained to make out who was speaking. Her vision cleared enough to see that it was Kikyo. “Ah I see our captive has woken up” Naraku walked in. He walked to Kai had lifted her head by placing his finger on her chin. “We overheard your little conversation. Please tell us of the future” Kai jerked her head away. “I’ll tell you nothing” Naraku smiled. “You don’t have a choice” said Kikyo with an evil laugh, “If you wish to save your mother’s life”
“Kagome, are you alright” Sango could see sweat running down Kagome’s flushed face. “I…I don’t know…I feel”. Kagome fainted before she could finish. Inuyasha tried to wake her but was unsuccessful. “Oh no what do we do Sango” Shippo’s worriedly tugged on Sango arm. “We can help. We know this poison.” Sano walked over to Kagome. He felt her head and nodded at his sister and Kyu. Without a word, the two headed into the forest and gathered what they needed.
“What do you mean” said Kai. Kikyo walked over to Kai and showed her a small vial containing a black liquid. “It’s a poison of my own creation. I have used it on you and your mother” Kai began to laugh which caused both Kikyo and Naraku’s smiles to fade. “Let me guess it’s made from the venom of Mumushi the snake” Kikyo’s eyes narrowed. “You’ve used this in the future. There is an antidote” Naraku’s patience was wearing thin. “Tell me how I fail in your time. What causes my ultimate downfall?”
Siroku and Kyu soon returned from the forest. They began crushing various plants and mixed them together with other item they brought. They soon made a soup like mixture. Here give this to her. Sango held Kagome’s head upward as Inuyasha poured the mixture into her mouth. After a while Kagome awoke. “Where’s Kai” “Naraku has her” Inuyasha answered. “I’m going after her. Sango and Miroku will look after you” Kagome nodded in agreement. “I’m coming with you father” Kyu walked to Inuyasha. The look on his face showed he had no intention of being talked out of the matter. The two sniffed the air then headed towards Kai’s scent.
Kai was finding it very hard to breathe. The air felt heavy. She could tell she didn’t have long left. “How many times do I have to tell you I don’t know? It happened before I was born” Naraku smiled. “You will tell me or a mere poison will be the least of your mother’s worries.” “Kill her, I don’t care” Naraku was angered. He realized he had no influence. “You foolish child, you have outlived your usefulness” Inuyasha broke through the roof followed by Kyu. Both unsheathed their Tetsusaiga's. “Come Kikyo. We shall find our answers elsewhere” Naraku and Kikyo disappeared into the smoke once again. “Damn it” said Inuyasha. It angered him that Naraku was gaining his powers and strength by the day. “Dad we need to hurry”
“How are you feeling Kagome”? She looked at a worried Shippo and smiled. “I feeling much better” “They’re back” Sano and Siroku ran up to Kyu who was carrying Kai. She was once again unconscious. Kagome rushed over and felt her head. “She’s burning up. We need more of the antidote” Siroku fell to her knees. “There’s no more. The main ingredient is a plant that is rare in this time. We were only able to find the one.” “We can’t just let her die” Kagome looked up. She was surprised to see Inuyasha so passionate about saving Kai. He had been so cold to her since he discovered her half wolf demon roots. “Come with me” The ganged looked to the tree line to see a woman not much older than Kaede. “Who are you” “This matters not. Bring the child this way. I can save her life” With their guard up, they followed the woman into the forest. They came to a small clearing with a hut in the center. “Kyu, lay the child in the hut. I shall attend to her their” Kyu exchanged looks with Sano and Siroku. “How do you know my name” The old woman smiled “I know many things concerning the future” Kyu laid Kai down in the hut on blankets then returned outside. “Come inside Inuyasha and Kagome”
Inside, the woman sat next to Kai and laid a wet cloth on her forehead. Inuyasha and Kagome delayed on entering. “What could she want with us? It sounds fishy” Inuyasha crossed his arms. “The only way to find out is to go in so let’s go” Kagome walked into the hut. “Keep an eye out Kyu” Inuyasha then followed Kagome. “Would you like to find out the secrets Kai hold in her heart” Inuyasha and Kagome stared in confusion as they too sat next to Kai.
