Chapter 7: A Vision into the Future’s Past
Part Two:

Kagome stared into her cup. “Do you me to tell me there’s more to see?” The old woman nodded. “Yes this child holds much more in her past. To fully understand her you must witness it all” Inuyasha and Kagome once again drank the old woman’s potion and once again everything turned dark.

Kai awoke with the morning. It had been years since Inuyasha had left and her house showed signs of disrepair. There was a knock on the door. She watched her mother answer. Her mother, the Lady Kagome, was a powerful priestess and villagers from all over came to seek her aid. She watched her mother dress and prepare for another journey. “Mother, may I come with you this time?” Kagome turned. She was dressed in a kimono similar to Kikyo’s. “Kai, you are only six. Stay here” “I won’t get in the way, I promise”. Kai looked at Kagome with hopeful eyes. Kagome looked once more at her daughter. In her demon state she looked nothing like Kagome. Only of Ookami. Kagome could barely stand to look at her. “I said you’re staying here. I don’t need a half breed getting in my way” With that, Kagome walked outside, got on her horse, and followed the villagers. Kai was used to this. Her mother never showed her any type of affection. Kai ran through the woods until she found a waterfall and Koga’s wolf pack.
Koga turned and greeted Kai with a big smile. “Well hey there. I didn’t expect to see you today.” Kai sat on a rock by the waterfall. “Uncle Koga, may I ask you something?” Koga could see the sadness on her face. He motioned for his pack to give them some space and sat down beside her. “Why does mother hate me?” Koga was surmised to hear her question. “She doesn’t hate you Kai” Kai looked up at Koga with tears. “She does. She never looks at me, hugs me, or even tells me she loves me.” Koga felt anger towards Kagome for the first time. How could she act this way? He tried to hide his anger from Kai. “I will speak to your mother when she returns. You’ll see. She does love you.”
A few days later Kagome retuned, having slayed the demon she was after. She heard a familiar voice behind her. She turned to see Koga walking with Kai. “Kagome, may I speak to you” she motioned for Kai to go into the house. Kai went inside but peered through a crack in the door. “What is it Koga?” “Your daughter thinks that you hate her” Much to Koga surprise Kagome did not have the reaction he was hoping for. “What’s your point” she said as she stuck her nose in the air. Koga’s mouth dropped. He once again felt anger to Kagome. “I can’t believe you. Do you actually not care?” Kagome narrowed her eyes at Koga. “She’s your daughter. This has to do with Inuyasha and his leaving doesn’t it” Kagome snapped. “It’s much more than that. She’s the reason my life turned out this way. Had she never been born Inuyasha would have never left me for Kikyo. She’s the cause for all my misery.” Koga lowered his head. He could remember the time he had met Kagome. He remembered the smile she always wore. A smile he had not seen in many years. “You are not the woman I once loved anymore. To blame a child for things she could have never controlled. Especially over a piece of dog shit.” “If you care for her so much then take her” Kai ran out of the house. “No mother, I want to stay here with you” Kagome pushed Kai to the ground. “GO” Koga picked Kai u and took her to his cave.
Kai learned many things while with Koga. She learned to hunt and how to fight. But she still missed her mother. It had been a year since she had seen her and had heard many tales of her triumphs over demons.  One day a dark cloud covered the sky. She could sense an evil demon. “Uncle Koga do you sense that?” Koga did. He also recognized the scent. But it couldn’t be. How could he still live? “Kai stay here. I don’t want you near this battle.” Kai did as she was told and watched Koga and his pack run into the forest. Thunder rolled over head. She could tell this was no ordinary demon. Koga arrived at Kogame’s house only to find it destroyed. “KAGOME, WHERE ARE YOU”  He saw something moving in the rubble. Koga and his pack rushed over and began to clear the debris. He found Kagome injured. ”Koga…he’s back, Naraku is back” Kagome struggled but managed to get to her feet. An evil familiar laugh emerged from behind them. Naraku appeared. Koga’s wolf pack began to attack.
Kai could tell something was happening. She followed Koga’s scent. She arrived to devastation. The entire wolf pack had been slain. She found Koga’s lifeless body on the ground. “Uncle Koga, please wake up” As she looked around she noticed where she was and immediately began looking for her mother. Kagome was barely alive when she found her. “Mother I’m here. Who did this?” Kogame looked up at Kai. “A demon that goes by the name Naraku. If only…Inuyasha had been here” Kagome let out her last breath. The next day Kai had buried those she had called family.  She started her search for Inuyasha.
News of Kagome’s death traveled far and eventually to the ears of Sango and Miroku. “Come Sango, bring the children we must tell Inuyasha.” They traveled until they reached the village where Inuyasha had been living. They found him on the outskirts playing with Kyu. Sango took Sano and Siroku over to play with Kyu while Inuyasha and Miroku talked. Inuyasha dropped to ground with tears in his eyes as he was told the news. “I should have been there. I should have protected her.” Memories of Kagome flooded his mind. Guilt overwhelmed him. He suddenly remembered Kai. “What about her daughter what happened to her?” Miroku shook his head. “She’s believed to be dead as well. Inuyasha I know this is difficult for you but I believe Naraku is to blame for Kagome’s death” Miroku showed Inuyasha the beads on his right hand and pointed to his son. Inuyasha noticed that Sano also had beads wrapped around the same hand. Inuyasha’s grief turned quickly to anger. They took the children to his house and prepared to hunt Naraku down. Inuyasha asked a lady in the village to watch the children and made his way out of the village. Before he was able to leave he was met by Kikyo. “Give us a moment.” Sango and Miroku walked over to the side until they were sure they were far enough away. “Where are you going Inuyasha?” Kikyo noticed that he had been crying. She knew it was over Kagome. “I’m going after Naraku. He’s back and he killed Kagome” Kikyo began to show he rage. “Do you not remember our deal Inuyasha? The terms have not changed.”
Before Inuyasha could answer a dark cloud rose above them and wind began to blow. A large bolt of lightning hit the ground in front of him sending him and Kikyo flying. Sango and Miroku ran over to check on the two. “Naraku is here” said Kikyo. She was correct. Naraku appeared out of the lightning. “What is it you want Naraku” Inuyasha rose to his feet. He didn’t care why Naraku was there. He only felt the need for revenge. Naraku began his attack starting with Kikyo who barely was able to move out of the way. “I want you all to die. Once my killers are in their graves I will be able to take over this world” Inuyasha unsheathed his Tetsusaiga. He swung it at Naraku and missed. “Wind tunnel” Miroku pulled the beads from his hand.
Naraku nearly lost his footing. But was quick to react. “Foolish Monk” Naraku turned his arm into a thick vine and thrust it through Miroku’s chest. Sango cried out for him and tried to rush his side but was also struck through by Naraku. Inuyasha tried to once again strike Naraku but was only able to cut off the vine. Kikyo shot an arrow and its power was able to blow a hole through Naraku stomach. Inuyasha took the chance to check on Miroku and Sango. To his dismay he found them to both be dead. “INUYASHA HE’S HEALING HIMSELF” Inuyasha turned as Naraku regenerated. Naraku let out a sinister laugh and struck Kikyo down the same as he had done to Miroku and Sango. ”KIKYO” Inuyasha’s cries made Naraku laugh even harder. Inuyasha used the windscar on Naraku hoping it would finish him off. Naraku knew he needed the sacred jewel in order to defeat Inuyasha. “I shall return for your life Inuyasha” “Oh no you don’t” Inuyasha prepared for another attack but Naraku vanished in a cloud of dark purple smoke.
Kai had traveled for a year. Asking the few villagers that would speak to her, if they had heard of Inuyasha.  She spent many nights sleeping in trees because villager refused to allow her into their homes. She came upon a stream finding a woman washing clothes. The woman looked u and smiled at Kai. “Come here child, you look hungry and tired. My husband will fetch you some food” Kai was not used to a villager being so kind to her. She sat down without a word keeping her guard u. A young man joined them and began to cook fish over a fire. “My name is Rin, this is my husband Kohaku. What is your name?” Kai swallowed the food in her mouth. “My name is Kai. I’m looking for a demon by the name of Inuyasha.” Rin smiled. “My Lord Sesshomaru may be able to help you. He is Inuyasha’s brother. He comes around every so often. You are welcome to stay with us until his next visit.” Days continued to pass as Kai waited for Sesshomaru. She started to become comfortable in her new home. Rin and Kohaku were unlike anyone she had met before. They seemed to not be bothered by her demon side and treated her as if she was their own. Before she knew it, two years passed. She was now ten and had settled in her new home. She had never given up the hope that one day Sesshomaru would come. Her wish was granted. Sesshomaru entered the house one day. Kai could sense he was full demon. She bowed to him. “Lord Sesshomaru. I ask you to show me where you brother Inuyasha resides.” Sesshomaru looked at Rin who smiled. She was still the one human he cared for and could tell she wanted him to help. “Follow me”
