Chapter 2

Eight Months Later

"KYAAAA! Kya where are you." yelled Ayame "Come on Kya it's time for lunch."

Ayame's sharp gaze searched the stream trying to spot her friend. As she caught the faint scent of Kya, she began to track it in her direction. As she walked, she laughed to herself. At the start of fall when she and the other hunters had retrieved the body of the young woman to carry back to the den, no one believed that she would live. Upon reaching the den, the Elder had already been told of her amazing deed. As soon as they entered, he had taken her to his own chambers to lay her on his personal futon and care for her. The pack had been astounded. Not because of the many gashes and hole through her side. These usually spelled death for any demon that received such a wound. No, it was because the young demoness was not a full demon. She was a hanyou and an inu-hanyou at that.

For three days, the Elder and Ayame had labored to save the young hanyou. It was the least they could do for bravery. She had taken on a Panther youkai that possessed two shards of the shikon. She should not have been able to beat him. She should have died and the pups with her. Somehow, she had saved them all and when she should have died from her wounds, she pulled through. On her wakening, the Elder praised her strong spirit. Elder asked her how she happened to be in the Northern lands to save the pups.

Slowly, then faster, and faster her story came out. Her name was Kya and she was from a distant land. She had no home or kin. She was a nomad moving from place to place searching. For what she did not know. She was happy only to have saved the pups from death.

Kya was growing sleepy at this point and Ayame laughed as she smiled and showed a white fanged grin through the grime on her face. Kya had given her a questioning look. She had let her know that while they had cleaned all the wounds on Kya's body neither had noticed until this point that the rest of her was filthy. Her hair was so matted with blood and earth you could tell nothing about its true color. She had promised on the next sunrise that she would take her to bathe.

Elder had announced that a feast would be given in Kya's honor the next day. Some of the pack had raised there voices in protest to a feast for a hanyou. Elder quickly brought order by pointing out that they would have lost two pups had it not been for her. He told the pack how kind he found her and that given time he thought the whole pack would accept her.

The next morning with the sunrise Ayame had gone to feed Kya breakfast. Once her hunger was sated, Ayame had led her to a hidden hot springs behind Elders chambers. Ayame had helped her wash and as the gore and grime washed from Kya's body, she was startled by what was revealed. Ayame gave a fanged grin and laughed as she helped Kya dress.

Kya had given her a funny look as she was wrapped in a spare set of Ayame’s armor and fur coverings. Minutes later they stood at the back of the communal room. Elder stood to announce the guest of honor. Ayame entered first and motioned for Kya. As Kya entered all of the wolves went quiet. All present had always thought Ayame a great beauty. Where she was the beauty of sunlight, Kya was a beauty of moonlight.

She was the same size as Ayame. Her height and size were the exact same. Her body was trim and toned from her many recent battles. She was a match for Ayame in that area but where Ayame possessed a wealth of red hair and green eyes, Kya was an opposite. Kya had an elfin face. Small and graceful were her features. She had a lush pink mouth that was quick to grin. A small pert nose and high cheekbones. Her large eyes captivated with their molten silver color. However, the thing that made eyes draw to her was the bounty of her waist length hair. Her hair was such a pale blonde as to almost look silver. The color was beautiful and her hair was so straight. It reminded Ayame of the great dog demon lord Sesshomaru's hair.

As the feast commenced Kya captivated all of the wolf pack. Her natural responses and happiness touched all of the pack. In one feast she had made herself a welcomed member. On the night, she was made an honorary member of the pack Kya told Elder and Ayame her biggest secret and the only one that she had. She did not want to lie to her pack. Elder cautioned her to tell no one else her secret and told her that it would never leave his or Ayame's lips.

As for Ayame and Kya's friendship that took less than a week. They thought of theirselves as sisters and did everything together. The pack laughed at all their antics and the pups loved them both to distraction.

Ayame was so deep in thought that when a figure suddenly leaped at her she fell flat on her rear and eeped.

"Haaa!Haaa!Haaa!" laughed Kya, "Oh I got you so good Ayame. You feel flat on your rear end."

With a low growl, Ayame came to her feet and swiped one clawed hand out at Kya. As Kya turned, and began to run laughing. Ayame yelled out to her, "Kya I am going to kill you. Get back here Kyaaaaaa!"

"Uh, uh" yelled Kya back "you said your going to kill me. I can't let you do that Ayame no matter how much I like my sister."

"Kya no fair. You have gotten me the past two days. It was supposed to be my turn today. This is what I get for coming out here to find you and let you know that it is lunch time."

As soon as Ayame said lunch, Kya's silver eyes widened. In less than two seconds, she was out of sight and Ayame was still yelling death threats.

Back at the den

After a very filling lunch, Kya and Ayame were stretched out in the sun beside the sleeping pups. Both were on the verge of sleep as Hiro, Elders second in command, came to get them. They quickly made their way to Elders chambers. As they entered Elder began to speak.

"Ayame, Kya finally Hiro has caught you two. I have been trying to summon you two since the dawn of the day. Now night is fast approaching. You two should stay closer to the den."

"Why what is the matter Grandfather?" questioned Ayame as she and Kya sat gracefully in front of the Elder.

"As you know Ayame there is much evil in this land. A hanyou named Naraku is causing many problems throughout the land. Many are looking for him and no one can find him. He has killed many wolves from many different clans. His evil plans have even caused the death of some of our wolves." Elder stopped and his brow wrinkled into serious lines as he continued, "Ayame you are my granddaughter and I have passed onto you all that I know. I know your strengths and weaknesses. Kya you have been in my pack for long enough now that I have seen your strengths as well. You equal if not surpass Ayame. I want you two to follow Kouga and help him find this Hanyou. I dreamed that you two are needed to help end his worthless life. Now please on the break of the new day I want you two to go."

Moments passed as Ayame's eyes grew stormy. Finally, Kya rose to her feet. She gave a graceful bow and as she assisted Ayame to her feet her only reply was, "It will be done as you say."

Wow chapter 2 finished in one night with chapter 1. Well hopefully things can get a little more involved now. So until next time. Later...
