Disclaimer: Since I feel as if writing this over and over is redundant(besides taking away from time that I could be trying to actually type out this story), I will say that I do not and have never owned Inuyasha or any of the characters therein. So now, this disclaimer is meant to cover this and all subsequent chapters.


Chapter 4


"Kouga-kun" exclaimed Kagome as Kouga took her hands into his.

"Hello my woman. Has dog shit been taking care of you." asked Kouga as he raised Kagome's hands to his chest.

"I'm fine. We have been searching for a shard that was rumored to be in this area. So far we haven't had any luck in finding it; not matter how hard we look, but enough about us how are you and your pack?"

"This has been a good spring for us. The game has been plentiful in our area and is good for all the new pups that the pack has been blessed with." Kouga paused and looked deep into Kagome's eyes as he begins to speak "As for myself...I have missed you my woman I wanted to come and bring you back to the pack as soon as the spring drew near."

As Kouga kept up his steady stream of flattery, no one noticed that a certain hanyou was looking on the scene with wry amusement. If they had taken a glance in his direction, they would have seen the smirk on Inuyasha's face as he watched the two of them in their awkward embrace. All of them would have fallen over if they could have read his thoughts at that precise moment.

"Shit, that wimpy wolf never changes. Look at him over there. He just has to make a big entrance usually by running over me and then he has to drape himself all over her. Keh. Just listen to the crap that is coming out of his mouth. I hope that bitch doesn't believe a word he is saying. Kami protect me from this stupid shit; oh well, guess I better do my part and pick a fight with this asshole so we can be on our way."

"Hey, wimpy wolf get your perverted hands off of Kagome. Can't you get it through your thick ass skull that the bitch doesn't want your dumb ass." growled Inuyasha as he came to stand in between Kagome and Kouga. By this time, the rest of the inu-tachi had moved well away from the center of what was now going to be a battle arena; as Kouga and Inuyasha began to take up their battle stance.

Kagome was standing by Sango, wearing a murderous look, as Inuyasha ran at Kouga to draw first blood. Everyone gasped as blood began to run down Kouga's left arm. They could not believe that Inuyasha had actually been able to touch the wolf prince. Their eyes became riveted to the spectacle before them as Inuyasha began another charge. Kouga was able to pivot to the side to escape the reach of the claws aimed at his throat just in the nick of time. He could not help throwing out a taunt to his opponent.

"Yo dog turd you got first blood for free but your claws won't feel another drop after that."

"Just shut up and fight you fucking wimpy wolf."

The battle raged on as Kouga leaped over Inuyasha's head to swipe at his back, claws sinking into the muscle and sinew of the right shoulder, before touching the ground. The two were now growling low in their throats, circling the area between each other as they prepared for another attack. The others could only watch in horrified fascination at the two. They could all tell that there was something different about this fight; yet, not one of them could pinpoint that difference.

Usually they would give a couple of punches, one good swipe of the claws, and tetsusaiga drawn for good measure. This was the routine. This is what they were all used to seeing. It was what they expected at the start of the fight. It was not what they got.

Suddenly, in an explosion of motion, the two combatants began a dizzying dance of pure fighting skill. Kicks, punches, leap, grabs, and slams; nothing was missed as the two set the ground beneath their feet to trembling. The skill and quickness, of the two as they fought, had never been seen between them before. Their movements were coming so quick at times that the small group of shard hunters, waiting just out of range, could not see what was done.

They were leveling trees in their wake. Making a once tranquil glade an arena of sorts. Sango, Miroku and Shippou were watching in awe as Inuyasha leapt into the air. Just as he was about to reach an also airborne Kouga a clear voice was heard.

"INUYASHA OSWARI!" screamed Kagome.

Inuyasha crashed into the earth. The hard rocky ground digging into his flesh as the spell drug him down. His body went totally still as the charm took effect. There was no sense trying to move when you could not.

The young miko's voice had not even begun to fade as the wolf prince drew her into his arms and began to ardently kiss her tender lips. He reveled in the taste of her, head swimming from finally getting one of the things he desired. He was so lost in the moment that he was unaware of the person who was now standing right behind him. Moments earlier this person had not been anywhere near. It was really too bad that Kouga had missed his chance to get away. Even worse that the rosary's spell was wearing off and Inuyasha had already sensed the new person joining their small band. Poor Kouga all he could hear was Inuyasha's laughter as he received a very hard kick to the ass.

"What the hell" yelled Kouga as he pushed Kagome to the side and began to spin around to face his attacker.

As he completed his turn he came face to face with someone he had been trying to forget for sometime. He came to a halt his claws inches from his attackers face as he gasped out "Ayame".

Ayame looked at him calmly. Her eyes gave no clues to the inner workings of her mind as she replied "Hello Kouga. How have you been?"

For one moment, everything got quite as the two sized each other up. Then the air began to turn blue due to the force of the swearing that erupted from Kouga's mouth. Nasty word after nasty word falling from his lips. All of them directed at Ayame. All of them coming back to one thing.

"Why the hell are you here? Shouldn't you be back with your pack." growled Kouga "Damn it woman how many times do I have to tell you that I don't want you. I will not be your mate. If and when I do it will be to Kagome. At least I find her attractive. She's the ..."

Kouga never got to finish what he would have said next. In the blink of an eye he went from standing in front of Ayame to laying some feet away with a very pissed off female standing over him screaming "I'm going to rip you apart you bastard. I'm going to make you wish for death after the way you just talked to my sister."
