pagan sedjou: Wow, thanks! I’m glad you think so! Well as long as someone’s reading it I had better keep it going ne?
wolfstar03: I’ll do my best with the updates. I can’t promise much with school starting again though.
Kyoka: I’m glad you like it! Don’t worry, I finally figured out a way to bring in Shippo and Fluffy-sama, and even bring Koga back. I’m just spelling his name the way I’ve seen it in the mangas. I’m sure there will be plenty of stupid men fighting over Kagome, I just have to figure out how to add it into the story.
Varan: Well that’s a little more encouraging! But still, out of over 80 people who read this only four have reviwed. Ah, gomen, ignore me. I just like to complain.
Jack: Don’t I know it!
Varan: Oh be quiet.
Shippo: So I’m gonna be in the story too?
Varan: Eventualy Shippo-chan. How could I write an Inuyasha fic and not have you in it?
Shippo: Yay! ^_^
Varan: Plus, I finally figured out a plot! So to celebrate I brought Sesshomaru here to bug him.
Sesshomaru: Why must you torment me so?
Varan: Because it’s fun Fluffy-sama. Besides, the readers want you in it too! Don’t you feel loved?
Sesshomaru: Not particularly no.
Jack: Yeah well you don’t have to deal with Varan’s stupid anime obsession 24/7 like I do so be grateful.
Varan: ::sigh:: everyone here is against me. Well except Shippo-chan. Too bad Kurama’s busy at his stupid human school.
Jack: Do not say that word! ::covers ears and shuts eyes tightly::
Sesshomaru: What’s wrong with you half-breed?
Varan: School starts next Wensday for us.
Jack: No! I don’t wanna go back! ::shakes head violently::
Varan: Oh great, now I gotta calm him down. If Mom sees him like this she’ll kill me. Fluffy-sama take care of the readers for me will ya?
Sesshomaru: Why should I?
Varan: Because I said so and it’s my story.
Sesshomaru: ::sigh:: Very well. Here is chapter three. Hurry and read it so I can get away from these filthy half-breeds.
Jack&Varan: Shut it Fluffy-sama!
Disclaimer: I don’t own them but Kurama and Shippo-chan are MINE MINE MINE!!!!!! ::psycho laugh:: Uh oh, here come those guys in the white coats again! Gotta go!
Myoga paced back and forth, deep in thought. This was the time of year that he would visit the four great demon lords to renew the treaties between them and the holy warriors. The stronger demon clans had agreed to leave the Shikon no Tama alone, and the humans agreed to never challenge the demon lords for their land. So, many humans lived peacefully under the demon lord’s rule, and the warriors only had to worry about weaker demons trying for the jewl. But it was a long journey, and Myoga was getting on in years. He needed someone else to go in his stead. But who? The best diplomat out of the warriors was Miroku, but he didn’t trust Miroku to go on his own. He would probably just cause problems with his lecherous nature. If he sent Miroku, he would also have to send Inuyasha to keep him in line. But...Inuyasha had a low tolerance for demons. If only he could get it through his thick skull that some demons could actually be reasoned with. Myoga had hoped that Kagome would help him understand, but the boy was too stubborn for his own good. He stopped pacing abruptly and tapped his right palm into his left fist. Of course! Kagome! He could convince Kagome to go with the boys and have her help them with the negotiations! And he should probably send Sango as well, to keep an eye on the boys and keep Kagome company. But would Kagome even agree to going? Maybe Sango could help him convince her to go. He left his hut and headed to the public training grounds where the slayer could usually be found practicing with her brother. Sure enough, she was there with Kohaku giving him a few pointers while Kirara sat on the fence and watched. As he approached he called out to her.
“Oi, Sango! Do you have a minute?” Sango looked up from her target and smiled.
“Of course Myoga-sama,” she replied. “Kohaku, you keep practicing alright? I’ll be back in a minute.”
“Hai nee-chan!” Kohaku continued to practice while Sango walked over to Myoga.
“What do you need Myoga-sama?” Myoga explained his idea to Sango briefly.
“...And I would like you to come with me to speak with Kagome,” he concluded. Sango thought it over before replying.
“I don’t know Myoga-sama,” she said skeptically. “Do you really think this is a good idea?” Myoga shrugged.
“I think it would be a very good experience for all of you, especially Inuyasha. And maybe even Kagome as well,” he added as an after thought. Sango smiled.
“Well...why not? I did want to meet Kagome anyway. We may as well give it a shot. When are we going to go see her?”
“Right now if that’s alright with you. I want to get this whole ordeal finished with as soon as possible.”
“Fine, just give me a second.” She turned her head to yell toward her younger brother.
“Oi Kohaku!” Kohaku stopped midstrike to look at her.
“Nani?”
“I”m going with Myoga-sama for a while. I’ll see you at home later. Kirara you stay with Kohaku. I won’t be gone long.” Kirara mewed and twitched her tails in agreement and Kohaku nodded.
“Kay. See ya later nee-chan!” He waved good bye before returning to his practice. Sango waved back and placed her hiraikotsu in the weapon shed. She kept her katana at her hip as a precaution. She didn’t want to seem hostile, but she didn’t want to be defenseless either. When she was done, she left the training yard with Myoga, heading to Kagome’s forest. Myoga led the way, scanning the forest for Kagome’s hanyou aura. Eventually they found her sitting in a tree napping. Her ear twitched as they approached and she opened her eyes just as they reached the tree.
“Back again jiji? (a/n: is that right?),” she asked, raising an eyebrow at him. She jumped down to land lightly in front of the humans. “And who is this? Another baka ningen who wants me dead?” Myoga ignored that comment and smiled at the hanyou.
“Kagome, this is Sango. She is a resident of the village,” he answered smoothly. “And no she isn’t out to kill you, she merely wants to talk to you.” Sango smiled and nodded her head in greeting.
“Konnichiwa Kagome-san,” she greeted. “I’ve heard quite a bit about you from a certain sword happy friend of mine.” Kagome grinned seeing the mischevious look in the girl’s eye.
“Let me guess...Inuyasha right?,” she asked. Sango nodded and Kagome shook her head in mock sadness. “Then I’m sure you didn’t hear anything good.” Sango chuckled.
“Actually he did mention that you saved his sister from a boar,” She told her. “So you can’t be all that bad.”
“Really? Well that’s strange, you’re one of the first who didn’t immediately judge me! So why are you here? I’m sure Myoga didn’t bring you here for just a friendly visit.” Myoga cleared his throat loudly.
“Ahem, allow me to explain Kagome,” he said. “I would like you to accompany Sango and two others on a journey. They will be renewing the treaties out village has with the four great demon lords. I’m sure you would be of great help, being half demon yourself.” Kagome shook her head ruefully.
“I don’t know jiji,” she said, her ears drooping slighlty. “Not many full demons will tolerate a hanyou in their lands. Hell...even humans don’t tolerate us.” Sango frowned and put a comferting hand on the girl’s shoulder.
“Well they’re just ignorant ass holes Kagome-san. Besides, if you’re traveling with us, you will have diplomatic immunity. Under the terms of the treaty, they won’t be able to touch you.” Myoga nodded.
“Sango’s right. You’ll be perfectly fine and it will give you something to do. I expect that it’s fairly boring just sitting in trees all day.” Kagome looked at the two humans thoughtfully then shrugged.
“Oh why not?,” she relented. “It’s not like I have anything better to do.” Sango grinned again and held her hand out to the other girl.
“Then welcome to the team Kagome-san,” Kagome smiled and shook Sango’s hand.
“Arigatou. Oh and you can just call me Kagome if you want. If we’re going to be traveling together there’s no need to be formal right? By the way...you said there would be two others as well. Who are they?” Myoga gave a small nervous cough. She might change her mind if she knew Inuyasha was going.
“Ah...two warriors from the village will be assigned to accompany you. Sango is a skilled demon exterminator, and I’m sure you are a skilled fighter, but according to the treaty at least one warrior must be present at the negotiations.” Sango rolled her eyes in annoyance.
“And we need more than one to keep an eye on a certain lech,” she grumbled. Myoga gave a small sigh and nod.
“Hai, hai. Although that’s partly your job too Sango. Inuyasha isn’t hard enough on Miroku, being his best friend and all.” Kagome frowned.
“Wait...Inuyasha’s going? He’ll spend the entire trip harassing me!” Myoga smacked his forehead in frustration.
“Dammit! I can’t believe I let that slip!,” he cursed angrily. Sango gave the old man a pitying look.
“Well at least she’ll be prepared now Myoga-sama. But Kagome, Inuyasha is coming so that he can get over his prejudice against demons. And if Myoga-sama orders him to leave you alone and cooperate with you, then ha has no choice but to obey. He might not be nice about it, but he’ll be sure to get the job done. Besides, I’m on your side and I’m sure Miroku will be too. We’ll keep him and his temper in check.” Kaogome gave a small sigh and fixed them both with a stern look.
“If you two say so. But if he does anything, I won’t hesitate to defend myself. Even if that means he gets hurt in the process,” she warned.
“If something comes up, I’ll probably end up injuring him before you can even think about it,” Sango told her. Kagome grinned showing her fangs.
“You’d have to be pretty fast to beat me Sango.” The slayer merely shrugged.
“Well it’s kinda become a reflex for me. I don’t even think about it anymore, I just hit them.” The girls laughed and grinned at each other and Myoga developed a large sweat drop on the back of his head. He was beginning to feel sorry for Inuyasha. These girls were going to tear him apart if he didn’t change that attitude of his.
“Now all I have to do is go and inform Inuyasha and Miroku of their assignment,” he mused to himself. He winced inwardly at the thought of Inuyasha’s reaction when he found out that Kagome would be traveling with them. “Sango, why don’t we head back to the village so I can talk to the boys. Kagome, please come to the edge of the village tomorrow at midday. I’ll have Sango and the others meet you there. Are there any supplies you’ll require?” Kagome shook her head.
“Iie, not really. All I need are the clothes on my back and my claws,” she replied. Myoga frowned a little.
“You don’t have any weapon other than your claws?,” he asked.
“Well, I used to have an axe, demo I left it at the den when I...” She trailed off and avoided looking him in the eye. He didn’t want to tell them what had happened with Koga and her pack. The emotional wounds were too fresh. “...When I left,” she finished. Sango and Myoga didn’t miss the sudden change in Kagome’s demeanor, but decided to ignore it for now.
“Well then I will have our black smith forge something for you,” Myoga told her. “We can’t have you traveling through demon territory without a weapon now can we?”
“Demo....I don’t have any way to pay for it,” Kagome protested.” Myoga smiled and waved off her protest.
“Just think of it as payment for helping us,” he suggested. Kagome shrugged and smiled.
“Alright jiji if you say so.” One of Myoga’s eyebrows began to tick in annoyance. Why couldn’t he get any respect these days?
“Must you call me that?” Kagome’s smile turned into a teasing grin.
“Hai,” she replied simply. Myoga sighed and began to walk back to the village, muttering to himself the whole time.
“No respect for the elderly these days...” As he ranted to himself Sango and Kagome shared a laugh at his expense. Sango gave the hanyou a friendly clap on the shoulder.
“Guess I’ll see you tomorrow Kagome,” she said.
“Yeah I guess so. See you then Sango.” She watched the two humans until they were out of sight with a small smile on her face. This was the first time anyone other than her mother had treated her like a real person instead of just a half-breed. It gave Kagome a little hope. Maybe....just maybe....she wouldn’t end up a lone wolf after all.
*~* *~* *~* *~* *~* *~* *~* *~* *~*
“Nani?! You have got to be joking!,” Inuyasha shouted. Myoga had just informed him and Miroku about their new assignment. Needless to say he wasn’t happy about it. He was supposed to work with the half-breed? Had the old man finally gone insane?
“Inuyasha, I assure you I am totally serious. I want you, Kagome, Sango, and Miroku to negotiate the treaties with the four great demon lords,” Myoga told him, leaving no room for argument.
“Demo....demo what about the jewl?,” Inuyasha asked desperately.
“There are plenty of other warriors to protect the jewl,” Myoga answered. He turned to Sango and Miroku who were standing a few inches away from the steaming boy. “Miroku, you and Sango will handle most if not all of the negotiating. Inuyasha and Kagome will be there for support if you come across any danger, and to help with the negotiations if they can.”
“Of course Myoga-sama,” Miroku said with a charming smile. “I can hardly wait to meet Kagome-sama.” His eyes became somewhat misty and Sango glared daggers at him.
“You’d better watch yourself Houshi-sama,” she warned coldly. “Kagome might end up tearing off your arm, if I don’t get to you first that is.” She raised her hiraikotsu threateningly. Miroku held his hands up in a peaceful motion.
“Mou, Sango how can you think that of me?,” he asked in a hurt voice. She raised an eyebrow at him.
“Do you really want me to answer that Houshi-sama?” Miroku felt sweat beginning to bead on his forehead.
“Eh heh. Probably not.” While Sango delt with Miroku, Inuyasha continued to argue with Myoga.
“But Myoga what about my sister?,” he asked. “I can’t just leave her all alone!”
“I’m sure Kohaku wouldn’t mind keeping an eye on her Inuyasha,” Sango interjected. “He is thirteen now and he’s very responsible. I’m sure he won’t have any trouble looking after an eight year old child.” Inuyasha still looked doubtful. He didn’t like the idea of a boy other than himself looking after Kaede.
“I don’t know...”
“WEll you two work it out,” Myoga said finally. “I have to go see Totosai about making an axe for Kagome.”
“Myoga I can’t do an assignment with a half-breed!,” Inuyasha protested once again. Myoga ignored him and began walking.
“The subject is closed Inuyasha. Kagome is going and that’s final,” he called over his shoulder.
“Dammit Myoga get back here!”
“Sorry boy, but I need to see a man about an axe.” He ignored the string of curses coming from the young man as Sango and Miroku held him back from chasing after his mentor and headed to the forge. There he found the smith Totosai shaping some metil with his giant hammer. Behind him, the fires from the bellows flared with intense heat. Totsai wiped his sweaty brow and put his hammer down when he saw Myoga approaching. Totosai was a withered old man as old as Myoga. He had very large round eyes and a starngely cut mustache and beard.
“Myoga, what a surprise! What can I do for ya?,” he asked cheerily. Myoga smiled and gripped his friend’s forearm in greeting.
“Hello Totosai! I need you to forge me a weapon,” he replied, equally cheerily. They had known each other since they had been Inuyasha and Miorku’s age and were good friends.
“Sure thing. Is it for a new recruit?”
“In a way. It’s for the hanyou girl who lives in the forest outside of the village. She agreeed to help with the treaty negotiations this year, but she needs a weapon.” Totosai stroked his beard thoughtfully.
“Really now? So what kind of weapon did you have in mind?,” he asked.
“She mentioned being able to use an axe,” Myoga replied. “Do you think you can whip one up by midday tomorrow?” Totosai puffed his chest out arrogantly.
“Thisis the great black smith Totosai you’re talking to! Of course I can do it!” He hurried about the forge looking for the materials he would need. “But first I need some information about this hanyou. What kind of demon is she?”
“She’s half wolf demon.” Totosai browsed the different hilts and picked one up.
“Alright. So what does her aura look like?”
“It’s a dark purple color with no blackness in it whatsoever.” Totosai nodded and moved over to a case full of precious gems.
“I see,” he said, more to himself than Myoga. He selected one and placed it on a nearby table along with the axe hilt he had previously selected. He then went over and chose a piece of metal to begin working on and placed it in the fire. “I’ll have this finished by midday for sure, but I want to be the one to give it to her. Where can I meet her?”
“At the edge of the village at midday,” Myoga told him. “She’ll be there with Inuyasha and the others.” Totosai nodded again and tookt he metal out of the fire and began to pound it into shape.
“Consider it done,” he said absently, focused intently on his work.
“Arigatou old friend,” Myoga said gratefully. Totosai didn’t respond and Myoga knew that he was now totally engrossed in his task. He left the hot forge and headed to the warriors training grounds, which were seperate from the public ones. He was behind on his lessons today and he didn’t want the boys to start slacking off. He was fairly happy with how everything had gone, and was fairly sure that his plan would be successful.
Varan: Wow that took a while. Hope you guys like it! I decided to give Kagome an axe, because I wanted to do something different.
Jack: But won’t that be too heavy for her?
Varan: She is half demon.
Jack: Good point.
Sesshomaru: Why am I still here?
Varan: Do you really need to ask?
Sesshomaru: -_- I suppose not.
Rin: Sesshomaru-sama there you are! Rin was worried! ::Rin runs up to Sesshomaru and hugs him::
Sesshomaru: I’m all right Rin. I’m just being held by another author.
Varan: Aww Rin is so kawaii!
Jack: Oh great here we go again.
