A Past Revealed Ch. 2

InuToshiro just watched, still kneeling, as The Lord of the West left his home in silence. When he was out of sight Shiro rose and began to think about what he had just done. He was sure that the InuTaisho would survive. Nothing could kill that demon, Shiro knew, many had tried and failed.

Shiro walked outside to the garden. He could smell rain coming, it was amongst the fragrances of the different flowers around him. The garden truly was calming. The youkai walked to the stop were he had buried his mate and unborn pups. He just stood there, with his ears drooped, talking to her like she was right there and listening. Many of the servants had thought their lord had lost his mind, very few knew of what had happened earlier.

Months went by and Shiro had learned to deal with his grief. He still went and spoke to his mate's grave but not as often as he had. Shiro was still taking care of the lands that the Lord of the West had presented to him. Shiro had even become a protector of a village not far away. True, most were frightened of him, but many respected him and appreciated the security he was able to provide.

It was late one night when a knocking on his bed chamber door awoke him. He rose from his bed throwing on a robe to cover his naked self and went to see what was needed. When he opened it, it was his head of staff. The rabbit youkai proceeded to tell him that he had the Lady of the Western Lands and her son awaiting him in the lounge. Shiro nodded to Bufoku and told him he would be down shortly. Bufoku bowed and went back down to see to the Lady.

When Lord InuToshiro entered into the lounge he saw Izayoi and bowed. She returned the bow and began to cry as she sat back down. Shiro could never stand to see or smell tears. He went and sat down beside the lady and looked at the bundle of red in her arms. He saw silver hair and a tiny triangular dog ear poke out from an opening. He couldn't help but smile at the pup.

Shiro asked what had happened and Izayoi told him of the Lord of the West's demise. He was shocked to say the least, it was shown visibily, one of his ears was drooped and the other was erect and swiveling around. once he regained his composure he began to think. He was broken out of his concentration again by the lady's tears.

"My Lady Izayoi, you and your son are welcome to stay here for as long as you wish. My home is your home." Shiro said with a dignifying tone.

She looked at him and showed him a slight smile, it made the lord go to pieces. Shiro felt like he could just melt into the floor, his ears perking up to their full height, he was happy that he was able to bring this poor woman a bit of happiness.

"Thank Lord InuToshiro, my husband told me of your pledge to him and his family. I hold you to that pledge." Izayoi said tiredly.

He was wondering where Sesshoumaru was and why he was not taking care of this woman and her pup. He also was wondering why Sesshoumaru had not contacted him to gather an army and destroy the Dragon in his dormant sleep.

When he started to voice his questions he heard her even breathing, she had fallen asleep. Shiro called a servant and soon they had the Lady of the West in a bed chamber, her sleeping pup next to her and a human woman with her to help with anything she might need. With that done, Shiro returned to his chambers and had an extremely restless night.

Lady Izayoi had stayed at InuToshiro's home for a couple of months. Then she announced that she had overstayed her welcome and that she would be going to a village were she used to live within a week's time. Shiro was not happy about this and told the lady that she was welcome to stay and raise her pup at his home. That he would make sure she and her pup were well cared for and safe. She refused and took him aside privately away from anyone who might be listening to their conversation.

"Lord InuToshiro, I, Izayoi, Lady of the West, hold your oath fulfilled and do hereby release you from it. Now, you will let me do as I see fit, won't you?" Izayoi begged.

Shiro stunned by this woman only bowed, lowering his ears in submission, and let her leave him. Little did Izayoi know that she was unable to release him from his pledge. It was not something a human would know of, nor would they understand its lengths and bounds.

He turned and went to his private study. Shiro began writing yet another letter to Sesshoumaru to ask why he isn't protecting Izayoi and her pup. When he finished he took the piece of paper crumbled it up and tossed it away. He had written so much that he decided it wouldn't do any good.

A few days after Izayoi left, Shiro again was awakened in the middle of the night by sounds outside his home. When he rose and looked out his window what he saw made his heart sink. His fields and stables were burning. He quickly dressed and pulled Sesshin, his katana, off the wall and headed down to see the cause.

He saw his staff going crazy in the hallways of the home. Shiro yelled for an explanation of what was going on. A weasel youkai told him that there was a large army outside and was demanding the Lady of the West. Bufoku had gone out to explain to them that the Lady no longer stayed at the estate and was slain immediately. The army had set the fields and the horse stables on fire afterwards and were threatening to set the home aflame if the Lady of the West and half-breed son were not given to them.

When the weasel youkai finished, Shiro yelled to all that were in the home to flee. That they were to go and find lives elsewhere. With that Shiro drew his sword and proceeded to the front of his home.

The makeshift army of men were frightened when the doors to the Lord's Manor were flung open and a very angry dog demon exited the home. His eyes were glowing a blue, his sword raised, and his claws also starting to glow. With one swipe of his sword a huge wave of destructive energy sent men flying into the air.

Lord InuToshiro was lost in a rage, how dare these people do this to him. He would not stand for it. InuToshiro raised his clawed hand not holding Sesshin and a blue whip flicked out and started ripping human bodies to pieces. With this and the destructive power of his sword the powerful dog demon laid waste to the pitiful excuse for an army the humans had put together. But, that did not save his home, before he was able to stop them all, some of the humans had torched his house.

Standing there amongst the dead bodies and covered in blood Shiro could only watch as what was left of his life burned to the ground.

The next morning Shiro awoke from his place in a tree that he found and made his way to the ashes of his home. He then started to try and salvage anything that he could from the charred remains.

What he ended up finding were most of his weapons and armor that had survived the blaze. he also found a trunk, that was made out of the hide of the fire rat, had survived the blaze. When he opened it he smiled to himself. This was the trunk that he put anything that ever held true value to him in. With that he picked up the trunk and started to head to the village he had heard Izayoi speak of. He had men in place that were keeping an eye on her, he would go there and release them of their duty.

As Shiro made his way to the village that was days away, he started thinking of what to do to keep his oath. It was probably best for them not to know that he was there, or was it? He had many questions and pondered them as he made his way. When he got to the village just before the one he was heading for he stopped and finally found an inn that would take his money and give him a room.

When the inn keeper left him in his room, Shiro opened the trunk and began looking for something. His mate had been a powerful priestess and knew a lot of powerful spells. When they had been traveling together many humans did not like the idea of a youkai with a priestess. So after months of traveling and facing this ordeal his mate had given him a simple golden ring. To end his thinking Shiro ceased his searching of the trunk when he found the ring. As he put in on he felt the spell take affect.

The inn keeper was about to pass by the dog youkai's door when it opened and out stepped a human, wearing the same clothes that the demon had on before. He had brown hair and blue eyes. He had some facial hair around his chin. Shiro noticed the inn keepers amazement and told him not to tell a single soul that he was a demon. The inn keeper knew this demon had secrets as everyone had and told the demon not to worry that his true identity would be kept safe.

Shiro made his way into the village were Lady Izayoi was located. It seemed nice enough to raise a child. The guard and defenses were strong. It seemed that Izayoi had managed to get into the nobility and was staying in a Manor.

Once he made sure that she was safe he went to go see about a house and a job. As he made his way to the outskirts of the village he saw a hut that would be perfect for him. It was just outside of the village to be somewhat hidden. It was near a stream and was very well built. It would do nicely. He went and managed to get the hut from the seller and soon had a payment plan set up. Since Shiro had hardly any money he had to work for a week in the fields for the person he was buying to hut from. Not that he minded.

Once he had secured a place to live he began to look around for anyone needing to hire someone. Shiro soon found a local swordsmith that was getting on in his years hobble over to his forge with a broke leg that was bandaged. The old smith looked at Shiro and said he looked like a good man and asked if he would mind helping him move some heavy metal around. Shiro told the man he would be glad to help. The old smith who's name was Aiono was delighted to hear that Shiro was looking for a job and soon offered him one. Shiro took the job without question. He had always enjoyed smithing, especially when it came to weapons, it was a hobby he had enjoyed.

"Well, I would be delighted to know the name of the man that I have just hired." Aiono stated.

Shiro just looked at the man in surprise, no one had asked him for his name yet. He didn't want to reveal his true name, if Izayoi ever got wind that he was here she would be most displeased. Shiro looked at the old smith and told him that his name was Kainen.

"It's great to finally have someone to help me get all my work done Kainen, I can't thank you enough." Aiono said with great pleasure. "You said you will start at the beginning of next week?"

"Yes, Aiono. I will look forward to it." Shiro turned and left feeling proud of himself.

Shiro decided that it was getting late and that he needed to get back to the inn in the next village and get his belongings and move them to his new home.
