Kagome looked at herself in the bathroom mirror, taking in her flushed cheeks and hazed eyes with a bit of humiliation. This is the third time this week, she thought, reaching up to run a trembling hand over her face. With a light sigh, she turned on the faucet and splashed her cheeks with the cold water, closing her eyes and trying to clear her mind. This is ridiculous. Faintly, the sound of her alarm floated through the closed door, and she sighed again, running her fingers through her hair as she pulled out her toothbrush.

"I'll be back soon, Mom."
"Okay, take care of yourself, Kagome."
"I will. Love you."
Kissing the woman's cheek, the teenager hoisted her bag onto her back and left the house, going quickly to the well and jumping in without a second thought. Landing on the other side was as easy as she remembered, even though climbing to the top was a little harder than she wanted it to be. A pair of hands grasped her bag as she lifted it over the edge, and she climbed out after it, flashing a bright smile at the silver haired hanyou.
"Hi Inuyasha."
"What took you so long?"
"I woke up late. How's everybody doing?" Kagome dusted her clothes off as she spoke, fixing her curious gaze on Inuyasha as he shouldered her bag and began to walk.
"Feh." She took that as his answer and walked beside and a little behind him, trying to keep her thoughts from wandering. She was quite proud of herself when they reached the village; not once had she thought of her most recent dream, about how her dream Sesshomaru had taken her from behind like the dog he was, or about how his rough tongue had felt against her sensitive clit, or about -
"Kagome? Are you alright?" Snapping immediately out of her trance, Kagome masked her arousal and smiled at Inuyasha, who had stopped and was walking back toward her with a frown on his face.
"I'm fine. Sorry." His frown deepened, and she thought that he might have smelled her before she hid it, but then he cursed under his breath and turned away from her.
"Yeah well pay attention, ya dumb wench."
Letting out a breath she didn't know she was holding, Kagome followed after him, very carefully keeping only her arousal masked and plastering a smile onto her face as she entered Kaede's hut.
"Mama!" Just barely catching the orange bundle that hurtled toward her, Kagome's forced smile turned into a real one, and she settled down to answer her friends' questions, always keeping one part of her mind focused on hiding the wetness between her legs.
It wasn't until she'd sent Inuyasha and Shippo out to hunt that she relaxed a little. She glanced over at Sango, thinking that maybe she would ask if she wanted to go to the hot springs, but seeing the look she was giving Miroku, and the look Miroku was giving her, Kagome decided it might be best to keep to herself. In fact, she thought it might be even better if she left and went to help Kaede around the village. Nodding to herself, she stood and quietly left the hut, heading toward where she thought the old priestess might be.
She found her helping one of the village's pregnant women to wash and dry her three childrens' clothing, and Kagome immediately dove in to help, smiling at the woman and at Kaede as they fell into easy conversation.
It wasn't until the aura was right on top of them that Kagome noticed it, and within seconds, the center of the village was destroyed. Immediately ushering the children and the woman into the house, Kagome called as loudly as she could for Inuyasha, who streaked by her and right into the fight, Miroku, Sango, and Shippo right behind him. Kagome cursed her luck at having left her bow in Kaede's hut, running forward to stand by Shippo, who had his little hands up in front of him, a fierce scowl on his face. Kagome resisted the urge to coo at him, instead focusing on the fight in front of her.
Berating herself for not feeling such a large aura before it got within ten miles of the village, Kagome searched for the shards she was sure it had, finding them to be embedded in the middle of the thing's chest. "Inuyasha, it has three shards in the middle of it's chest!"
But her yelling didn't have the effect she wanted it to. Almost immediately, the creature turned it's oddly shaped head towards her, opened it's mouth, and shot it's tongue out at her, like a frog. She screamed, and thought to move, but the thing was too fast, and she felt a wet slap against her side before her body was yanked forcefully in one direction. Pain shot through her system, but she ignored it, screaming out for Inuyasha even as she was engulfed in a large reptilian hand.
By reflex, she began to beat at her cage, hitting and kicking anything she could reach and screaming while she was at it, even though she didn't really know what she was saying after the first few seconds. She felt movement, and registered that the thing was kidnapping her before the panic set in and she started to fight even more violently, wishing that Inuyasha would hurry up and save her.
After a while, she grew tired and her throat wouldn't produce any sound, so she slumped, tears stinging at her eyes. She sniffled, and then frowned. What was she crying for? She'd been kidnapped plenty of times before, and Inuyasha always came and saved her, right?
Will you always be so helpless, little Shikon Miko?
The voice came from nowhere, and Kagome jumped, looking around before foolishly remembering that she was alone. So was the voice in her head? There was a light, tinkling laughter, and the voice spoke again, gentle and soothing. Inuyasha is your protector, yes, but wouldn't you like to help yourself, just once? You have such great power in you, little priestess… Use it!
And then the voice was gone, and Kagome felt slightly alone. She shook her head, thinking that she might be going crazy, but the thought only lasted a second before another took it's place: she guessed that maybe it wouldn't be so bad if she just helped herself out every once in a while. But how was she supposed to do that?
Now thoughtful, she placed her hands in front of her face and examined them. They were impossibly tiny, just like the rest of her, but she remembered what she'd done to Mistress Centipede, and she wondered if she could do it on purpose. It couldn't hurt to try.
She concentrated, scowling at her hands for at least five minutes, and giving up when nothing happened. She sighed.
Suddenly, all movement stopped, and she faintly heard someone call her name. She gasped and began to fight again, listening to the sounds of the battle going on around her and hoping that her friends were okay.
The monster's skin was thick, tough, and Kagome knew that her little fists weren't doing anything to help her friends. Tears clouded her vision, but she wiped them away, angry at herself for being so weak. Why couldn't she do anything?
A jarring impact suddenly sent her sprawling out into the beast's palm, and she grunted, the wind knocked out of her. She realized that the hand was opening, and anger darted across her skin, the monster's youki beating against her senses like a hammer. She was going to die.
The realization sent pure fear coursing through her veins, and she scrambled to her feet, her eyes darting around for an exit. Logically, she knew that the only way she was getting out of this was to jump, but she also knew that she was at least six feet above the ground, maybe more if the demon was standing on its back legs. Panic settled in her brain, and she began to shake, her mind a jumble of thoughts that made no sense.
Unexpectedly, her miko powers kicked in, springing up from her belly like a geyser and shooting from her hands. She heard a high pitched, keening wail, and she thought that Inuyasha called her name, but there was an echoing voice in her head, the same voice she'd heard earlier, soothing her troubled mind and almost guiding her powers from her body.
Very good, little priestess… Your destiny begins now. You will have many trials, but so long as you remember who you are, you will always triumph. Pureheart, you will triumph.
The voice faded, and with it, Kagome's consciousness.
Author's Note: This chapter is an extremely late update...Sorry about that. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed, and I'll try to have the next chapter out earlier....Oh, by the way, does anybody know how to upload a chapter without losing all the text formatting? MM isn't taking my microsoft word uploads. Do I have to save it in rich text or what? And thank you Theresa Daniel for the suggestion...I'm going to borrow your idea, as you can tell :p Thanks!
