Kagome had spent three days on the other side of the well. The first day she indulged in self pity; she tossed and turned over what the dead miko meant to InuYasha, what he meant to her. What role, if any, she played in his.

And it always came back to the same answers. This was not her first dance with these questions, not the first tears she had shed for the topic. So why did this time seem different?

`Because we seemed to be getting closer. We were alone and having such a good time. Every time we take a step forward we take two back.'

He hadn't wanted her to go, she knew that. She couldn't mistake the pan in his eyes and the unspoken fear in his voice if she asked if she would indeed return. But she needed this space, she needed to be away from him so she could think.

She had never thought that she would be the type of girl who would stay with a man who strayed from the relationship. She had also never thought she would be with a hanyou from the feudal era; things were complicated. She tried to think what she would tell a friend in her situation, but it was no good. Her judgment was clouded by her love for InuYasyha. She knew she could never abandon him.

It was simple. She may never be able to compete with his former love, but she could try. She would rather spend her days with him, than without him.

So after she reaffirmed her decisions, she decided to let him sweat it out a little. She caught up on her school work, restocked her supplies and plastered a smile on her face. Today was going to be a good day. She made the familiar trek to the well and threw her legs over the lip, and let the time slip envelop her.

When she got to the other side, 500 years in the past, she took a deep breath. She revealed in the crisp fresh air, filling her lungs with the sweet untainted smell. She let her ears adjust to the quiet. It was such a contrast to the background noises of her time. She felt the sun beat down on her face. She wanted a moment to savor this. Today was a special day after all.

Her mother had protested her leaving, being her birthday after all. She had wanted to take her out for dinner and share cake, claiming that the girl deserved a day off, especially her birthday. Yet Kagome protested, and simply waved goodbye to her mother. It never was her choice when Kagome came and left, the girl seemed to be in charge of herself.

She was not expecting anyone to remember it was her birthday in the feudal era. They did not have access to calendars or follow 7 day week system. She was content to keep this mostly to herself, and revel in the fact that another year had passed. Another year with Inuyasha.

Today was an anniversary of sorts; It was on her birthday that she had first laid eyes on the half demon, heard his rough voice demand to pull the arrow from his body, that their adventure began. So despite the rather defeated mood she had left in, she was determined that it was not going to affect her today.

“Oi wench! You gonna stay down there all day?” Inuyasha shot his hand down to the well to help Kagome up.

“Were you waiting by the well for me Inuyasha?” She asked, trying to sound casual, arching an eyebrow. He had a momentary look of shock before brushing it off and replacing it with an arrogant smirk.

“Keh, you wish. Caught your scent. We need to get moving woman.” He took her yellow back pack from her shoulder and tossed it over his own.

“Not today Inuyasha. I want to have a picnic.”

His eyes narrowed at her defiance.

“Are you out of your mind wench? You've been gone three fucking days and want to take a fucking picnic? Naraku is out there. We need to get a move on!”

“Your right we do. But not today.” She shot a smile at him, and suddenly he felt unnerved. How could she go from such extremes? She was so hot and cold with her emotions sometimes! When he last left her he was afraid she was not going to come back. He had hardly left his post by the well. When he smelled her scent he had been close by, yet it took him off guard to smell her and he immediately wished to be near her. His nervousness erupted in a rude, abrupt tone. He tried to mask his excitement that his woman came back to him with an eagerness to hunt shards.

And as much as he didn't want to admit it, a picnic did sound good.

“I brought ramen.” She bribed. Seeing this as his opportunity to give in and let her have her way, he caved.

“Fine wench. But were leaving first thing in the morning.” He was rewarded with a brilliant smile and he felt the corners of his lips turn up to a smile. Kagome reached down and laced her hand into his; he immedatly stiffened at first, not expecting the gesture, but quickly relaxed and squeezed her small hand.

“Inuyasha… could… well, cou-“

“If you have something to say wench, spit it out.” He growled at her half heartedly.

“Could it maybe be just us for the picnic?” the miko asked with a slight blush.

Now it was the dog demons turn to stain his cheeks with embarrassment. He nodded his head I agreement and brought them to a shaded clearing in the forest away from the village.

The meal was eaten in a mixture of happy chatter and comfortable silence. They avoid the subject of their last encounter and focused on more pleasant conversation.

“Inuyasha, did you know today is the anniversary of when I fell down the well?”

The hanyou raised his eyebrow. “Wow, really?”

“Yup. Another whole year.”

It dawned on Inuyasha slowly and he suddenly felt embarrassed, thoughtless and stupid.

“So that means today is your birthday, right?”

Kagome smiled. She hadn't ben expecting that. She gave a light smile to him. “Yup!”

“Well, uh… happy birthday then.” He spat out awkwardly.

“You know…” kagome started, “its kind of like your birthday too.”

“How'd you figure?”

“Well, its almost like a rebirthday. You were asleep for 50 years, but you woke up on the same day that I came to the feudal era.”

The dog demon arched an eyebrow and smirked. Where did she come up with this crap?

“I actually have something for you.” It was a nervous voice, but an excited one.

“Ramen?”

She let out a laugh, then dug through her bag. “No, not ramen. Here.” She pushed the small box in his hands. Inuyasha looked at it curiously, then back to Kagome. “Open it” she urged.

Carefully he picked up a chain with his claws, eyeing it then looking back at the girl.

“A necklace?” It was a twisted gold and silver design. It had always been one of her favorites.

“It was one of my fathers chains. The gold reminds me of our eyes, and the silver of your hair.” She gave him a shy smile.

“Kagome… are you sure you should be giving this to me? Isnt this a little too… important?” He knew too well what it was like to give away a possession of someone you loved. He had given Kikyou a shell that had belonged to his mother. It was the single artifact of hers that he had held on to, and in his haste to woo the friendship, he had given away a precious item.

“It is…important…but your important to me. But, so are you. I want you to have it. I talked to mama about it and she agreed too. We both want to give it to you.”

He gave her cautious look. Not only was this necklace too grand, full of precious metal, but it had belonged to Kagomes father.

“Unless, you don't want it…” She stammered, suddenly feeling insecure. She made a move to take it back.

“No, I want it… if your sure…” She gave him a sweet, happy smile, then moved closer to him.

“I'll put it on for you.” Taking the chain out of his hands, she leaned forward, wrapping her arms around the hanyou neck; he felt his breath catch in his throat. He vaguely heard her say `there, all set' before she started to withdraw her arms.

He placed a hand on her arm to stop her, the sudden movement making her pause. She looked into the hanyous golden orbs. One hand idly began to stoke her arm, the other rose to hook her chin. Inuyasha leaned forward and placed a soft kiss on her lips.

He had meant for it to be chaste kiss, really, he did. Just to show her that he was applicative. But when he felt the silky texture of her full, plump lips, he couldn't stop himself from running his tongue over them, thinking how wonderful she must taste. He nibbled on her lower lip, eliciting a moan from her. Hearing and seeing the opportunity, the dog demon slipped his hungry tongue into her eager mouth. At first she seemed shocked by his bold move, but it quickly passed, and she returned his actions with equal force and passion. Had he been more focused he too would have blushed at his forwardness, but all he could focus on was Kagome and the delicious taste of her, the slick feel of her tongue, the way they fought for dominance. He was lost in the ecstasy of her hot little mouth, yet it was not enough. He moaned into her and broke the kiss when the intoxicating scent of her arousal wafted up to his sensitive nose. It took all he had not to push her back to the ground and take her then and there, to pump into her and make her body scream from pleasure, releasing his seed in his woman. No, this kiss was not nearly enough.

Kagome panted as he worked his way down to her neck, finding her pulse and giving it a nip. She cried out in hungry pleasure, silently begging for more. She felt her body growing weak, wondering how much more of this delicious torture she could take.

The hanyou was thinking the same thing. Reluctantly, he stopped his ministrations leaned his forehead against hers. Trying to slow the tempo, yet still pressing loving kisses to her lips. He couldn't get enough, couldn't stop. Catching their breath they smiled at one another. Inuyasha glanced at the discarded box to the side. Eyeing red piece of paper he reached for it.

“Whats this?” He asked examining the small packet. He heard Kagome give out a pleasant laugh.

“Oh, that was just a silly part of your gift. Each one is a ticket. You can redeem them at any time.” She gave him a goofy smile. He arched an eyebrow and flipped though the little book.

`Good for Kagome making Ramen'

`Good for Kagome letting Inuyasha win an argument'

`Good for preventing Kagomes return home'

`Good for getting out of a sit' - there were a few of those.

`Inuyashas choice'

Deciding he immediately liked this present, he gave her an arrogant smirk, then placed it carefully inside his fire rat for safe keeping. He was going to have fun with this…
