Kagome shivered as the breeze moved over her naked body, leaving
goosebumps in its wake. She inched closer to the warmth at her
side, trying to curl herself into it. Still half asleep she patted
around, attempting to find the blanket she kicked off.
When her hand landed on the familiar feel of grass her eye sprang
open. She was not at home, she was in the feudal era! She was
naked, lying next to Inuyasha. They… they
had…
…become mates…
Everything seemed to come rushing down on her. She turned her head
to get a glimpse of the dog demon at her side. He had one strong
arm draped possessively over her stomach, as if challenging her to
try and leave.
It had all happened so fast. Being intimate with Inuyasha was the
last thing she had expected would happen when she climbed
down the well. She expected him to be melancholy at her arrival. He
expected that he mourned the loss of a friend, not a mate. All this
time… all this time she thought that he had been together
with Kikyou. Was he telling the truth when he said he hadn't?
When she had seen him, her knees had gone weak. She was thankful
that he had kept such a strong grip on her waist. If he hadn't, she
might not have had the ability to support herself.
And when he had confessed his love for her, Kagome, Ka-Go-Me! And
not Kikyou, she was sure that she was having the most realistic
dream she had ever experienced.
But it was real.
Her head was spinning.
What should they do now? Where do they go from here?
She felt the dog demo stir from his sleep and pull her body closer
to his. She turned her head to look into his honeyed eyes.
They were filled with disbelief. Kagome was unsure if he was
troubled or shocked. She bit her lip as he studied her. Was…
was he regretting this?
“Your still here.” He said in a low tone.
“Of, of course I am.” She squeaked out.
He brought a claws hand to cup her cheek. He ran his thumb over her
smooth skin and she closed her eyes at the loving gesture.
“You're…You're real, right? This… this isn't a
dream?”
Kagome placed her petite hand over his and smiled.
“No, this is not a dream.”
Inuyasha leaned forward to capture her lips in a long, lingering
kiss. There was none of the hurried passion that they had
experienced before. It was a lovers kiss, meant to show the depth
of their love. Kagome felt the shock waves roll over her. One
simple touch had her helpless for this hanyou.
When they broke apart for air, Kagome trailed one hand up to the
base of his ear to rub it lazily. He rumbled deep within his chest
in approval. Inuyasha ran his claws gingerly up and down her spine,
loving the way she shivered, not from fear, but anticipation.
They laid in silence, letting the feeling of contentment wash over
them, as they let their hands roam to relive the passion they had
experienced earlier.
~.~
Kagome dressed herself as best as she could. She noted with a frown
that her underwear was no longer salvageable, as was her bra. When
she held up the tattered cloth to Inuyasha he simply shrugged and
smiled. He liked his bitch better without all that useless cloth in
the way.
She sat down by the base of the tree and drew her knee into her
chest. The hanyou followed suit and sat beside her.
Suddenly, Kagome felt nervous. So much had happened in a year, so
much had changed. How could they be expected to pick up as if
nothing happened?
“Inuyasha,” She asked in a calm tone. “What do we
do from here?”
The hanyou shifted uncomfortably. Had he felt the same awkwardness
too? There was no denying that their bodies had chemistry, each
eager to communicate in a way that could only be expressed
physically.
But this was the first time that they would talk, without the
urgency to make the other understand, without the adrenaline that
was in over drive.
This was a time to reaffirm what they had promised.
“What do you mean by that?” He asked.
“Well, exactly what I said. Where do we go from here?
Is… Is Kikyou really out of the picture? Am I going to be
accompanying you on the shard hunts? Do…Did you mean it when
you said you wanted me as a wife?”
Inuyasha turned his attention to her. She looked small and afraid
of his answers.
“Keh. What kind of questions are those? Yes, Kikyou is out of
the picture. I'm-” He let out a sigh. “I'm sorry that I
hurt you so much in the past. I know its my fault that you left.
If… If I had shown you that you were more important, then we
wouldn't have gotten into this mess. I regret every time I have
made you feel second best. I'm not going to do that anymore.”
He let his voice trail off at the end.
“I.. just don't understand what changed…”
“What do you mean?
“You were always so in love with her.”
Inuyasha sighed.
“I don't know if I ever was. She… Kikyou was the first
person who befriended me. She was the first one to show me
kindness. I… I didn't want to lose that. I loved her, but
knowing what I do now, I don't think it was the kind of love she
needed. I didn't love her as a mate. I only knew the difference
once I met you.”
Kagome worried her lip as she averted her gaze. He was being so
unusually chatty, it made her blush.
He caught her chin, forcing her to look him in the eyes.
“And I meant what I said. I want you as a wife. As a
mate.” His honeyed eyes bore into her soul. “You have
always been my mate, Kagome. My demon knew it long before the rest
of me did.” He growled low in his throat, bringing his lip to
hover over her own. “And now you really are mine.” He
said with a sly smile, as he crashed his lips over hers.
When he pulled away from her he couldn't help the smug grin that
spread across his face. He had caught a whiff of her scent again.
It was heavy with arousal. His bitch wanted him, again. He
was already liking this `mate' business.
“ And of course you're going with me on the shard hunts. I
told you, I aint letting you out of my sight wench.”
“But Inuysha, I… I have to go back.”
His head snapped in her direction.
“What?!”
“I have to go back! No one knows where I am. I never thought
that this would happen. I have to let Mama know where I am.
Not to mention, I have no clothes here, or underwear.”
She said as she shot him a pointed glance.
Inuyasha blushed in reply.
`And, I have to properly give my answer to Jiro. He… he
deserves that…”
“Besides, I have to stock up on Ramen!”
His eyes widened at the mere mention of the foreign delicacy.
“Keh, well, if there will be ramen…”
The girl giggled in response. “At least that hasn't
changed.” She stole a glance of the hanyou out of the corner
of her eye. “What… what have you been up to this past
year?” She braved.
Inuyasha shrugged nonchalantly. “Not much. I stayed close to
the well in case you some how came back. We didn't travel very much
because of that. I spent a lot of time on my own. It was a really
fucking miserable year.”
Kagome nodded her head, feeling guilty.
“And... And you? What did you do?”
“Mostly I went to school. I helped out at the shrine a lot. I
was really a mess. It was a nightmare of a year for me too.”
She said.
The sat in silence for a few moments before Kagome spoke.
“This is a little awkward, huh? I mean, we haven't seen each
other in a year. I feel like theres so much to say and at the same
time I cant think of a single thing.” She confessed with a
small laugh.
“Yeah, I know what you mean.”
Kagome worried her bottom lip as the silence continued. It was more
than Inuyasha could take. He picked up Kagome, and jumped into the
high branches of the tree, pressing her back firmly against his
chest.
“In..Inuyasha..”
“It will get easier, Kagome.” He said as he nuzzled her
neck. “Its just because this is all so new for us, and so
sudden.” He pressed a kiss at the base of her throat.
“But that doesn't mean that it isn't good, or that I don't
want it.”
“Me, me too.” She managed to mumble out. “We will
get back into the groove that we had before.”
“No, I don't want that.” He confessed. “I cant
live like that. I need more. You coming back here… this is my
second chance. I don't deserve to have you as a mate, and I know
that. Im just going to have to prove to you how much I love you,
Kagome.”
He pressed his lips against hers, and he moaned into the kiss. The
fire in her belly igniting once again. They would be lucky if they
were left this meadow.
~.~
Inuyasha wrapped his arms around his mate as he leapt out of the
well. He pulled her body close, placing a chaste kiss on her
forehead before letting her go.
He immediately missed her warmth, her scent. It had been a year
since he had traveled to her time, and he had not been ready for
the assault to his senses. It was so damned noisy here. All the
different sounds made him feel dizzy. And the smells. Gods. Was
there anything worse than then the foul aroma of Kagomes time?
“Are you okay?” She asked.
“Yeah, Its just been a while since Ive been back here. I kind
of forgot how overpowering it is here.”
Kagome frowned. “You must have unknowingly worked up some
kind of tolerance from coming here so often.”
“Yeah.” He said in agreement.
“'Oh geez, I totally forgot! You cant go out there without a
hat. The shrine has really had an increase in visitors lately. Just
wait in here and I'll be right back.” She said as she walked
out of the well house, leaving the dog demon behind.
It seemed like it was taking her forever. How hard was it to get a
fucking hat? He had to get the hell out of here before he passed
out.
Kagomes room.
That's where he needed to go.
He had always found refuge there during the times of his stay. It
smelled purely like her. Wild flowers. Everything in that small
room had her scent all over it. It was also overwhelming to his
senses, but in a much more pleasant manner.
Inuyasha emerged from the well house and stepped outside. He took
the familiar step the the Higurashi house, reveling in the feeling
of routine. How many times had he walked this path before? How many
countless times had he pushed open the sliding door, intent to
retrieve Kagome because that damned wench was taking too long.
Nothing much had changed in that sense. She was still as slow as a
snail.
Just as Inuyasha began to slide the door open, he felt a hand on
his shoulder.
He turned to meet Jiros unfriendly stare.
