Because of all the encouragement I got from my reviewers, this chapter came out earlier than I expected. Plus, I had more time to work on it. Anyways, I have the answers to all the reviews down below. Thanks for reviewing everyone!!! And if you didn'treview: thanks for readingand please review for this chapter!!! ^_^
I've decided that I'll put all explanations/apologies for things that might be offensive to someone at the front of the chapters:
To readers that practice monotheistic religions:In paragraph 5 of Segment 1,paragraph 1 of Segment 3,and paragraph 2 of Segment 4,there is a referral to “gods”. I did not mean to offend anyone who practices a monotheistic religion (I'm non-religious myself, just throwing that out). I did some research, and the most popular religion in Ancient Japan 500 years ago was probably Buddhism. Buddhism is polytheistic, well, that's whatsomeof my resources said. However, othersources claimed that Buddhism is not polytheistic according to believers. I'm notsure, but if that is the case, I'm really sorry to anyBuddhists who are reading. Anyways, I thought it would seem more realistic and make more logical sense if my story said “gods” instead of just one god. But, the characters of this fan fiction arenotgoing to be Buddhist.

NOW
Rin and Kagome (8days since the last time you read about them)
Rin was cheerfully gazing at the forest scenery as it slowly passed by while she trotted along behind Kagome. It wasn't as well tended to as the Western Estate Grounds, but it was just as enchanting. The birds were chirping a joyful morning song and the nearby stream trickled musically to the sound of the gentle breeze.
`Such a prettytrail has to go toaveryprettypalace or castle. It'stoo bad that Kagome-chan won'tsayanythingabout it,' thought Rin.
In all, if her counting was correct, Rin had asked Kagome about their destination 56 times just that morning. The reply was never different; but Rin was stubborn, so she tried once more.
“Rin wants to know where Kagome-chan and Rin-chan are going again.” Rin's brown eyes looked pleadingly at Kagome's stuffed back pack, as though it could give an answer to the question.
Kagome halted and sighed with exhaustion and exasperation. Here she was, almost lost in a forest, carrying a backpack that weighed 10 tons. There was also no way Kagome could defend herself, other than what she could do with her own two hands, a bow and maybe a dozen arrows. And yet, she still had to deal with possibly the most inquisitive little girl on the planet. That only made her current state exceedingly disagreeable. Why couldn't the gods find someone else to pick on?
“We're going to my…uh…hut. Remember? I told you earlier that we'll be staying there until I know if Sesshoumaru…I mean Lord Sesshoumaru has … “returned”. I'm sure you'll enjoy staying at my home,” Kagome stammered. She still wasn't used to saying Lord Sesshoumaru, but for the sake of Rin, she would have to learn.
Seeing that now would be a great time to rest for a few minutes, Kagome relieved herself of the weight of book bag, setting it down in front of her on the rocky trail. Then, after motioning Rin to sit down beside her on a patch of green grass, Kagome emptied the contents of the bulging back pack.
“…toothbrush, not it…crackers, save for later…World History textbook, too tired…telescope? Why did I bring that?” Puzzled, Kagome concentrated on what she had packed three weeks ago.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Flashback
“What will I need?! What will I need?!! What will I need?!!!” cried Kagome in panic. The empty yellow backpack seemed to frown fiercely at her, reprimanding her for not packing earlier. Kagome had already taken two more days off in the future than she had promised to her friends, and pretty soon, Inuyasha would come hunting her down. After what happened last time, Kagome was not about to let it take place again, at least not without an effort to prevent it.
`It'sALLthe calculus test's fault?!!!! And since when did Mr. Utoku give suchhardtests?!!!! Why somanyformulas???? And then,Mrs. I-Love-Giving-Tests-On-The-Wrong-Daysjusthadto give that physics test the very next day?!!!!Then there was Houjo asking me to go to that newrestaurant with him. After all the times I've turned him down, it really would've been impolite to decline again. This is so unfair! I wish I didn't have testsor guys asking me out to eat! On the bright side, I'll be done with testsin a few months, once I'm out of high school. But that'sonly if I live that long! How on Earth does Inuyasha expect that 1and a 1and a halfweeksis enough time?!!!But, more importantly, I NEED to finish packing NOW!!! What to pack…what to pack…what to pack…what to...” Kagome was so consumed in her thoughts that she was completely unaware of Souta as he tip-toed through her bedroom door. Suddenly, the voice of her brother intruded into her thoughts.
“Whatcha thinking about, sis?”
“Don't do that again; it scared me! To answer your question, I'm trying to figure out what I should pack! I don't know when I'll be able to come back again, knowing Inuyasha. But, I don't want to bring a horse load of stuff either,” Kagome snapped back, ending with a growl of frustration.
“Whoa, Kagome. Are you okay? You sound kind of angry,” said Souta, full of concern. He had never heard his sister sound so…irritated before. She was normally so full of spirit and seemed to always be optimistic, except when it came to copying notes for big tests.
“Oh…I'm sorry Souta; I didn't mean to do that. It's just that, well, I can't seem to decide on what to bring to the feudal era. What do you think I should bring, other than a soccer ball or video games?” Kagome answered, an apologetic smile playing on her lips.
“Well, I'm learning about stars right now in Science Class, so why don't you take a telescope with you? It must be really beautiful at night then; you can probably see the stars really well,” advised Souta.
“That's a good idea, Souta. Could I borrow the small telescope that Mom got you for your birthday?” said Kagome.
“Sure. Please be careful with it though. Don't forget to put the cap back on the lens after you use it. Let me go get it while you choose what else to bring…oh yeah, I almost forgot, Ojii-san wanted me to give you some spell scrolls and the map. He says it's for extra protection, just in case you get lost. They're in my room,” yelled Souta over his shoulder, while running to get the telescope and other objects.
“Alright Souta, just put the stuff in the front pockets of my book bag once you get them. Could you also get me that green compass Mom just bought? I think it'll be useful,” Kagome told Souta while she flipped through the messy bathroom drawers.

“Oh, right! Now I remember why they were in there! That's not what I was looking for though,” said Kagome to herself. She forgot that Rin was beside her and was about to start her search again when she heard Rin take a big breath, forewarning Kagome of another question.
“What's Kagome-chan looking for?” said Rin. Just a second ago, Kagome-chan had been throwing weird-looking stuff on the ground, causing the things to get covered in a layer of dust. Then, Kagome-chan just froze. Now she was speaking again, but Rin didn't know who it was she was talking to.
“Oh, I'm sorry about that; I was just talking to myself. I'm looking for some cookies and the map that my Ojii-san gave me. I'm getting kind of hungry, aren't you? We've been doing a lot of walking,” said Kagome, without even turning to Rin. Rin looked on with perplexity at objects that were flying through the air.
“Aha!!!! I finally found it!” Kagome said triumphantly, while holding what Rin thought looked like a lot of dirt in an odd-looking glass case. Rin had no idea what some dirt could do for them.
“What's that, Kagome-chan?” asked Rin.
“Those are what I'd call chocolate cookies in a plastic bag. They're a little smashed, thanks to my English textbook, but still good to eat,” said Kagome. Then Kagome unsealed the plastic bag and grabbed the remains of the once cookies, holding out what would've been one cookie to Rin.
“Want to try some? They're good,” Kagome informed. Rin turned her head this way and that, closely inspecting the cookies.
“Come on, it's not like the cookies are poisonous,” Kagome told Rin, trying to persuade her into eating the cookie.
“Are you sure?” questioned Rin, uncertainty etched clearly across her features.
“Of course I am! Here, I'll eat some first just to prove it, okay?” Kagome replied. Then, Kagome took the cookie that she had been saving for herself, and gobbled up half of the crumbs.
“I guess I'll try some,” said Rin. She tried to sound as reluctant as possible, copying the tone that Lord Sesshoumaru had used once when a noble woman had asked him to eat a home-made, but really nasty looking cake at a ball. It worked very well for Lord Sesshoumaru. The noble woman got really upset that he didn't sound like he wanted to eat it, and gave the cake to her fiancé, who threw it all up after the ball. This tactic didn't quite work in Rin's case though, since the Rin's goal was to get the cookie, not have Kagome eat herself and then throw it up. Luckily, Kagome could tell that Rin wanted to eat the cookie from the way her eyes were following the cookie crumbs. Kagome dumped the cookie pieces into Rin's outstretched palms. Almost immediately, Rin crammed the cookie into her mouth.
“Mmmmmm…that was REALLY good!!!! Can Rin have some more, Kagome-chan?” murmured Rin with a full mouth of chocolate chip cookies.
“Why don't we save the other cookies for later, Rin? I have a feeling we'll get to my…hut in about 2 or 3 more days. Once we get there you can have all the cookies you want. Now brush off the crumbs on your dress (A/N: I'm not sure if it's a dress or not) and get ready to leave. We need to start again as soon as I can get the map out, or else we'll never get to my hut's…gate. Okay?” said Kagome, already picking up the stuff she had gotten out and stuffing them down into her book bag.
Just as Kagome was about to resume walking, Rin began to speak again, “What is Kagome-chan's home like?”
“Why don't we save that question for tomorrow, Rin? We really need to get going now. I promise that I'll tell you about my family and home later, okay?” asked Kagome. Then, she started off again at a brisk pace, carefully studying the map and compass.
Behind Kagome, Rin nodded her head. Since Kagome-chan promised, then Kagome-chan would have to tell Rin. It was a definitely a good deal.

At the Western Palace in Sesshoumaru's Study
(Also 8 days since you last read of the Eastern Lord and the Dark Miko)
“I told you already. Throw Sesshoumaru off that cloud or else I handle him… personally. If you don't get it done soon, my nephew is going to ruin all our plans,” said the Dark Miko in a startlingly composed tone. Although she maintained her calm exterior, the Eastern Lord could tell that she was raging angrily on the inside by the way her thin golden brows twitched. If he pushed her a little more, the Dark Miko just might “explode”, if that was possible for one so collected. If that happened, he would be out of the boiling pot and into the fire. It was a little known fact to most, for the “Dark Miko” had greatly insisted upon keeping it secret, but she was actually “someone of great power, capable of causing great pain who was so important she could not reveal her own name”. That was at least what she had told him. He did not doubt her words, for she had proven herself on more that one occasion. The Eastern Lord did not forget these words; he was in the far corner of the study by one of the enormous bookshelves, legs folded neatly beneath him while he cowered in fear of what the Dark Miko might do to him.
The Eastern Lord was having regrets about accepting her offer and then trying to break the contract he signed. That night, he had thought that she was a fraud, inept of doing what she claimed she could do. Instead of giving her what they had agreed upon as her payment, he had planned on giving her some jewels, maybe an ounce of gold, and a tiny portion of the swampland to the north of the Western Lands. Now, he was learning that the plan was a stupid one. It was too bad that he had sent all of his army and most of his guards off to hunt and celebrate their great victory. Originally, the purpose of that was to have some privacy while he discussed her payment, but now it seemed a bit more like a suicidal act.
“Of course, anything you want, great and powerful one. But can't we discuss this later, after some green tea? You haven't eaten in days; you must be absolutely famished! I've never seen or heard of a young lady going for so long without food. Come now, I'll have a servant bring us something to eat,” said the Eastern Lord in a slick voice, desperately trying to change the subject of the conversation. If he stroked her ego, maybe she would let him out of the study unharmed.
“You believed you could deceive me into forgetting about my payment, didn't you? I am far brighter than any ordinarymortal is. Don't try and change the subject once more, or else I'll have your head for it. I have told you before that I do not require any food that grows from your soil. You also know very well that I'm notjust a “young lady”. I'm older than you'll ever be,” the Dark Miko informed the Eastern Lord in a disturbingly calm, monotone voice. It was so calm that the Eastern Lord began to panic, thinking that he had gone too far and would die a slow death now. He looked upon the pure white slippers of the priestess as she paced back and forth along the wall of the study. It was unnerving to hear the tapping of slippers, for it reminded the Eastern Lord of a clock, ticking the seconds remaining in his life away.
“I would refrain from using your true name, as you requested, but it is necessary that you understand what I am about to say, Lord Sargotu. I demand that the Lord of the Western Lands be dead within the next 5 hours and 7 minutes. It is mandatory that that happens. I do not need nor ask for your cracked jewels, dust-covered gold, or the filthy land that your disgusting and untrustworthy kind has crawled upon. The quick death of Lord Sesshoumaru is all that I ask for. To be honest, I do not care how he dies, as long as the incident happens within the allotted time. If he is not dead within the time given, I have many “creative” and “ratherunpleasant” new…inventions that I could test on you. You wouldn't want that to happen, now would you?” asked the Dark Miko. Her ruby-red lips curled into an unnatural smile, and made her suddenly seem dark and menacing to the Eastern Lord. Just when the Eastern Lord believed that the dreadful conversation was over, the Dark Miko began to speak again.
“I have already calculated the time that it will take for your General to get there: 4 hours, 52 minutes and 7 seconds, but the Lord will die completely after 9 minutes and 21 seconds. Do not question how I am sure that these are the exact figures, all you need to know is that they are. That means you have only 5 minutes and 32 seconds to get Sesshoumaru out of the Sufeng and onto your General's cloud. Otherwise, I may have to wipe out all of your subjects, including you. I promise that I can also make every second of your afterlife unbelievably terrible. It is a guarantee that I stay true to my word, but I don't believe you or your subjects would like to find out,” the Dark Miko told the Lord sweetly. Fear like nothing the Eastern Lord had ever felt gnawed at the bottom of his heart. He did not doubt the priestess's words, and he did not want to know for sure. The Eastern Lord simply stared at the slippers of the one in front of him, uncertain of what action to take next.
Seeing that the Eastern Lord did not seem to have reacted to her words, the Dark Miko added, “If you were smart, Lord Sargotu, you'd follow my advice: stop sitting there like a useless block of cracked stone and retrieve your General. Remember, your pitiful life is on the line. Time hasbeen running out.”
As if suddenly awakened from a deep sleep, Lord Sargotu rubbed his eyes before springing up from his crunched position on the floor. In half an instant, he disappeared from the room with a gust of wind and blinding flash of light. Even though his character often came across to people as handsome but dumb and weak, the Eastern Lord was neither stupid nor weak. In fact, having people assume those things was his strength, for he could often catch an enemy unguarded. The Eastern Lord was also well-known for being fast on his legs, and he never passed a chance to show it off. What he was lacking in, however, was courage.
The Dark Miko knew all this, using it to her full advantage in terrorizing him into getting what she wanted. From the start, the Dark Miko had known that he would try and cross her, but she had been well prepared in her own manner.
`The Eastern Lord is very lucky that he was not arrogant enough to believe that he could overpower me. I am not a mere mortal' thought the Dark Miko as she faded through the steel-plated mahogany walls, similar to what the mysterious demon had done before.

The Western Palace's Dungeons
General Nikuso was genuinely grateful to all the gods and goddesses when he finally heard the bickering, or rather the intimidating speech of the Dark Miko, subside. After 12 days without food, sleep or any company, even the strongest, most determined warrior would grow weary. He had also become very bored of staring down the dull, dim-lit walkway. Ever since the “imaginary” screech and sign, nothing else interesting had happened. That was with the exception of the eerie voices that came out of the Sufeng.
Something was at going to happen at long last! Although General Nikuso was not particularly looking forward to taking part in the assassination of his once-idol he realized that Lord Sesshoumaru was nothis lord. Lord Sargotu was, and if Lord Sargotu ordered it of him, it wouldbe done without a second thought. The Eastern Lord knew what was best for him and the Eastern Lands; personal feelings shouldnot and he would make sure that they wouldnot get in the way of his duty to Lord Sargotu. Not everything in life was going to be enjoyable, and now, in the early years of his life, was his time to learn that.
Anxiously, the General eyed the heavy stone door and waited for it to open.
Much faster than the General had expected, the door split into two great blocks of “splintered” grey stone. Without any sign of forewarning, a flash of light burst into the room, followed by the unruffled Dark Miko who arrived not through the open doorway, but faded in from the arched ceiling. Almost straight away, Lord Sargotu started shaking the General's shoulders in stricken panic while speaking at a rapid speed, thousands of expressions racing across his frantic face every second.
“General Nikuso, you haveto leave this instant with Lord Sesshoumaru!!! Do you get it? RIGHTNOW!!!!!! And when you get to the desert, don't wait even a second! Throw him off the cloud immediately!!!! It is IMPERATIVE that you do that!!!! Make sure that there are no delays at all on the way there!!!” The Eastern Lord screamed, right into the sensitive blue-green ears of the General.
General Nikuso grimaced from the pain his ear drums were in and asked the Eastern Lord, “Please excuse my curiosity, my lord, but could you explain why it is so urgent? Could I not first have something to eat first, now that your discussion is over, my lord?”
“NO, OF COURSE NOT!! Who cares that you're hungry?!! MY LIFE, YOUR LIFE, AND EVERYONE'S LIFE IS ON THE LINE!!!!! IF HE ISN'T DEAD SOON, she'll KILL us all!!!” cried the Eastern Lord, wildly pointing with a long, golden talon at the Dark Miko, who was standing ever-calm and still by the door of the Sufeng. The General did not have to be a genius to know that his lord's words were true, but could not understand how the Eastern Lord came to be in such a frenzied state. Lord Sargotu was not a fool, but his lord was so conceited at times it seemed that he believed no one could possibly do any harm to him. The Eastern Lord was clearly not in his right mind.
“My lord, might I recommend that I unlock the Sufeng and--” the General's words were cut short by the Dark Miko.
“Be quiet, you insolent fool. Can you not see that I, your superior, have already taken care of that?” General Nikuso was taken aback at where her voice was coming from…the 4 foot thick wall that separated the corridor from the Sufeng. Her face was the only thing visible, while the rest of her body seemed to be either in the wall or the Sufeng. The Eastern Lord, however, remained strangely unfazed at the sight.
As the General watched, she faded back into the walkway, this time carrying the body of Lord Sesshoumaru. At first, the General was stunned because the body looked pale and limp, but there was still a strong heartbeat emitting from Lord Sesshoumaru. It was only after a split-second that the information processed in the General's mind.
“What did you do to Lord Sesshoumaru, Dark Miko?!” yelled the General, a hint of resentment in his voice. It was one thing to ask him to kill Lord Sessshoumaru, but quite another to harm someone who had been locked in the Sufeng for 12 days and endured the most unbelievable evils and pains known to mortal kind. It was a miracle that Lord Sesshoumaru was even alive, and yet the Dark Miko still had to put a probably very harmful and disabling spell on him. Watching this went against General Nikuso's code of honor. But, without the Eastern Lord's permission, it would be considered treason if he did anything about it. How could his lord stand there and not do anything about it? Was the hold that fear of pain had on the Eastern Lord really strong enough that he could stand to watch even his enemy, but still a fellow demon, go through this? Either the Dark Miko was an extremely strong sorceress or the demon before him was not Lord Sargotu, but an imposter.
“Do not question my actions, General. He is fine, although the Sufeng has taken a toll on his energy. If you hurry now, Lord Sesshoumaru will die before he regains consciousness. Surely you would like for your childhood idol to die a quick, painless death if that is within your power?” replied the Dark Miko, an all-knowing glint in her blue eyes.
`Could this Dark Miko possibly bea—mindreader? No mortal could master such a powerful ability. But how else could she have known that? I have not thought about Lord Sesshoumaru as a childhood idolsincea few centuries ago, with the exception of what happened a few days ago. What is her secret?' thought General Nikuso, trembling slightly at what could happen if she possessed such a skill. He tried to conceal how astonished he, but his pale-green eyes betrayed him.
“I know what runs through your mind right now; you cannot hide anything from me. However, your thoughts do not interest me, but I'm sure Lord Sargotu would enjoy a peek. But remember the task at hand; get it done if you value your life,” said the Dark Miko. Impatiently, she tapped a perfect fingernail on her one free hand against the wall.
With the actions of one who had done it many times before, General Nikuso formed a bluish-green swirling mass beneath him. As cautiously as he could with trembling fingers, he took the body of Lord Sesshoumaru and set it down behind him on the cloud. After quickly glancing at the Dark Miko, who was apparently stronger than he'd assumed, the General sped off through the cracked doorway of the hallway.
It felt good to be free of the previous assignment, but now an even heavier burden sat upon General Nikuso's shoulders.

Koemna's Palace
Koemna shifted uncomfortably from side to side in the silk covers of his bed. For the first time ever, he had completely emptied his schedule for the night in order to have some much-needed sleep. Now though, he found that he couldn't rest for even few minutes. His mind kept on straying back to what could very well happen within a few hours: the death of Lord Sesshoumaru. No matter how hard he pondered about the unusual prophesy it never made any sense.
`A prophesy that was “never prophesized”. How is that possible? A prophesy has to be foretold bysomeoneorsomething, otherwise, it is nota prophesy.“Greatest of the great”…what does that mean? Surelyanyonewho lived in that time, even a demon, would have died by now, unless they were a god. No god was born during that era, yet I have no records of the death of someone very great. This is quite a mystery.'
Koemna turned on his side, thinking of all the information that Botan had turned up about Lord Sesshoumaru. Apparently, he was very important, for there were countless legends, prophesies, and stories about him, such as:
“…one of the greatest romance stories of the time was that of a demon princess and Lord Inutaisho. Lord Inutaisho (read more about on pg. 2, 345 ofImportant Demon Lords of theWorld) took the princess as his first mate. Later on, she gave birth to a full demon son, Lord Sesshoumaru (read more about on pg. 2, 687 ofImportant Demon Lords of the World). Unfortunately, the princess died in a tragedy (read about it on pg. 687 ofLove Stories of the Feudal Era, free with next purchase)…”
“…Great Lord Inutaisho (turn to pg. 423 of this book for more information) was his sire, who also preceded him in being Lord of the Western Lands. Lord Sesshoumaru was a great and powerful demon. His father's second mate was a human princess who gave birth to the also-powerful hanyou Inuyasha (for more information, go toPowerful Warriorspg 9, 824). Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru both inherited swords from their father. During battle, Inuyasha tore one of Sesshoumaru's arms off. Inuyasha was given the Tetsusaiga and Sesshoumaru was given the Tensaiga (go toLegendary Swords, pg 226 for information on both swords). These swords were to bring the two brothers together. Whether they did, it is unknown, for the book holding the information was burned...”
“…hated humans, but adopted a human girl named Rin (also took part in Prince Koga's (turn to pg 4, 532 for more information) life. Sesshoumaru was well-known for his attitude. It is reported that he often acted arrogantly. When he became angry at his short assistant, Jaken, Sesshoumaru would step on him (there is still debate on whether that is true). Sesshoumaru was also great in combat and won nearly all of the battles he took part in during his lifetime. Naraku (turn to pg 378 for more information) once provided him with a human arm. Information on what happened with the arm is known. But, the scrolls telling this information are private…”
Aside from learning that the guy obviously had some problems understanding “family time”, the information was utterly useless. It would probably be best not to anger Sesshoumaru too; Koemna already had enough bruises from messing up.
Abruptly, Koemna remembered Kurama's reaction to the information that Koemna had shared with him. Kurama was very clever, always one of the first to solve baffling mysteries, and often somewhat distant, but even that could not explain the way a shadow seemed to have pass over his face after their discussion.
`Could it be…it is possible that Kurama knows something that I don't. Five hundred years agohe was still in the Makai, so he could've learned something there that I don't know. Not every little thing going on aroundhere reaches my office. Well, maybe it wasn't anything big, otherwise he would've told me. Wait…would he?I…I'm not sure if he would. He has a habit of not doing anything until he figures everything out. Anyways,I can't really march down there right now and demand I know what's going on.I have no choice but to wait, like he said.'
With a sigh of defeat, Koemna turned in his bed once again. Luck never seemed to be on his side.
