InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ A Second Chance ❯ A Partly Solved Mystery ( Chapter 4 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
By: Fantasies The Dark Miko's name is revealed...but how is she related to the mysterious demon? What does she have to do with all the unusual things that have been happening?
Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha & Co. or Yu Yu Hakusho & Co. Inuyasha & Co. is owned by Rumiko Takahashi. Yu Yu Hakusho & Co. is owned by Yoshihiro Togashi. I own only the idea for this fan fiction.
As Ihaverealized, the last chapter was kind of boring. It was sort of the“calm before the storm”. The“storm”will hopefully beginverysoon.
I was wondering, what's a “beta reader”? I hear authors talking about them all the time, but I have no idea what it is. Could someone please tell me?
Well, if you're still reading, Joychan, I want to say thanks to you for providing a name for the Dark Miko. Thank you to every one else who also sent me some names (or offered to).

RuBiAx: Thank you! This chapter should be slightly, if not by a lot, more interesting. ^_^

Tomoe34: Yeah, the third chapter was up…but I accidentally deleted it while I was at my relative's house. I didn't have my jump drive with me, which is what I store my chapters on, so I had to put up a notice that the third chapter would be up as soon as I got back home.
BoXXeDin: Thanks!
BueFlame: Thanks for reviewing for all three chapters! I hope you enjoy this one!
Don't_Like_to_Review: Thanks for reviewing!

On General Nikuso's Cloud (approximately 4 hours since you last read about him)
In the shining starlight, the blue-silver locks of General Nikuso glowed vibrantly, parting every now and then as the cool, night winds blew through. Upon his turquoise cloud was Lord Sesshoumaru, with his silver mane flowing over the edge of the cloud.
Instead of thinking of what was to happen soon, the General's mind was occupied with thoughts of his lord.
'Who was that demon that stood before me? That demon was not Lord Sargotu. It may be the same body, but inside that body, the soul has taken a change.'
A moan escaped the lips of Lord Sesshoumaru, waking the General from his thoughts. General Nikuso turned just in time to see Sesshoumaru's golden eyes open slowly, capturing the General's eyes in a mesmerizing trance. General Nikuso's eyes widened with amazement as, with visible effort, Lord Sesshoumaru's pale limp arm beckoned to the General to come closer.
Cautiously, the General moved closer to the fallen lord, inch by inch. He knew very well that if Lord Sargotu had been watching then, he would be immediately demoted, if not beheaded, for treason. But, something deep inside him told the General that if he did not go over to the lord, he would regret it forever.
"...please...my last request...if you have any honor in you...grant it. Far off...or nearby...with a human...is a little girl...named Ri-- Rin...make sure...that she is in good hands...Don't let...her die...it is already beyond...me...to look after her...any longer..." It faded off in the General's ears. Lord Sesshoumaru was still conscious though, and his golden eyes were exhibiting such emotions that the General had never seen before. Forever the fallen lord had been pressured to hide his emotions in order to elude opponents, keeping all emotions in a giant bottle deep within. But now, in the final stages of life, Lord Sesshoumaru was freeing them all; he was releasing himself after a lifetime of self imprisonment. Then suddenly, the curtains were dropped over the two orbs, and the flawless face fell to one side.
Indecision wracked the General's mind. To fulfill the last wish of this particular dead (A/N: actually, he's not, but Nikuso doesn't know that) youkai would be considered mutiny. But if he did not, the General would never be able to sleep peacefully again.
An image of his mother popped into his mind. The gentle smile, sparkling eyes, and warm embrace. She had been the Lady of the Southern Lands, before tragedy had struck his family. It occurred nearly a century ago, but in the mind of a demon, it felt like just yesterday. Every moment of the heart-rending experience was clear to his mind...
Cold, hard steel gleamed in the darkness while screams of terror filled the air. In the midst of the chaos stood a lost little demon boy.
"Momma...Momma...where are you? Papa...please...help me!" screamed the little boy. Before he could open his mouth again, a dead body was flung into his arms.
"There's your father, little boy. Go cry and weep. Lord Sargotu is you lord now, and by no means will he be as gentle as your weak father was," said the gruff voice of a demon captain. He need not have bothered though, for the boy recognized the bruised body. Terrified, he dropped the body and screamed. Harsh laughter was his only consoler. But, all of a sudden, strong arms embraced the whimpering little boy.
“It's alright…everything will be fine…don't worry”, assuaged the kind and gentle voice of the boy's mother.
“But…theykilledPapa! Papa's dead!!!! What'll we do? Papa died!” The little boy held tightly onto his mother.
“Yes…I know. I'll take care of us. You still have Momma. Momma promises that you`ll be fine,” replied the mother soothingly. Within the next instant, a sword came down. Red blood spewed onto the little boy, and he fell to the floor on top of his dead mother.
“Momma! Momma! Momma! No, you can't go! You made a promise, Momma! Youcan`t break a promise!” sobbed the little boy. General Nikuso now knew that when a person passed on, promise or no promise, they had to go. The heart-rending experience of his mother dying while hugging him had always stayed with him though, and he would never forget it.
End Flashback

Abruptly, General Nikuso closed his eyes. A single tear slid down his cheek. It was simply still too real.
But, the days of sadness and mourning had passed. Now was the time to avenge his father and mother. Now was the time to take action.
Turning back to Lord Sesshoumaru, General Nikuso whispered the words, “It will be done.”

In the Western Palace, Ball Room 7
The demon in rags moved along the walls on padded feet. He had no idea what had occurred, but the palace was eerily quiet everywhere. The 7th ball room was right around the corner; it was a large attraction for all soldiers and guards, most of which did not want to stay in the barracks. Today however, it sounded as though it was completely abandoned.
Just as the demon rounded the corner, the enormous glass doors were violently flung open by none other than the Dark Miko. Unfortunately for the demon, she turned towards him and stared directly into his startled face. The smile that had adorned her face suddenly dropped, and her blue eyes narrowed with shock.
“You!” the Dark Miko gasped. She never thought she would see that distinct face ever again after she had banned him from her realm. Quickly, she regained her collected composure, lest she be made a fool of.
“Yasashi!" The demon gaped, unsure of how to proceed. Who would guess that she would come down to Earth? Whatever or whoever that she had done this for should be very honored, even if she had come to terminate them. It wasn't every million years that you met someone like Yasashi on Earth.
"That's QueenYasashi to you, Hadeaki! I would think that someone from such a high-standing family of my court would know better than to act like an impudent fool, even if they were banished forever! But I suppose so many years dwelling in the body of a demon has finally taken a toll on you! And I had actually considered making you my husband at one time! Just look at what pitiful state you're in now!" snickered the Dark Miko, newly introduced as Yasashi.
"Humph...it is not my duty to answer to you any more. Currently, I am neither one of your subjects nor in your realm. You exiled me from my own home unjustly. Why should I address you with a title that is wasted upon you?" Hadeaki's purple eyes flashed angrily at Yasashi's direct insult towards his family, but chose not to comment on it. Ignorance often could rid problems that would otherwise nag at you forever.
"Think before you speak. Your family has truly lost their touch when it comes to wisdom. Regardless of how much power you have obtained in the past few centuries, I am still and will always be stronger. I suggest you take heed of my warning," answered Yasashi. Her jaw was set in a grim line. It was a sure sign to anyone that she was having trouble maintaining her calmness. Hadeaki knew this expression well and had suffered the consequences that followed more than once.
"Yasashi, I respect you as a brilliant and skilled warrior and experienced adversary; but I will not name you my queen. I reserve that title to the first that I find is worthy. Let us promise to forget this feud, never speak of it to others, and continue on whatever business of our own we had been attending to before this confrontation,” Hadeaki compromised with her. He knew that if word got to the court that Yasashi had been spotted on Earth, she would have a chance of losing her position, which is why she would probably jump at a chance to keep the information away from the court. Hadeaki would be quiet, if she would agree to keep information of his level on Earth away from the court too. There was no way that he would allow her to go spreading rumors that he had become demon scum without at least an effort of prevention! His reputation might be a little stained, but he wouldn't even have a reputation any more if word got out.
Following much thought, Yasashi reluctantly nodded her head. It was the only way to save herself from shame.
With a quick bow, Hadeaki disappeared into thin air, making a quick escape. Seeing that the conversation was ended, Yasashi followed suit. Neither spoke a word of it to anyone, as they had promised.
The deed was done. Sesshoumaru was gone. Down below General Nikuso, a miniscule figure lay against the hot, desert sand. Eventually, the body would become enveloped in sand, and the great demon lord would be forgotten forever. Only the lords that passed away of old age were honored, for those were the only ones strong enough to survive that long. In the world of demons, it was the survival of the fittest. Apparently Lord Sesshoumaru had not been the fittest.
Even so, the last request of any demon or man was traditionally obeyed. Lord Sargotu may have said that he was to return promptly, without any interventions, but even the word of the Eastern Lord was not law enough to break tradition. Thusly, the next task for the General was already laid out for him.
It was not hard to guess that Rin would be somewhere near Inuyasha's forest, since that was where most of the human population lived. Immediately, General Nikuso set out in that direction.
I'm really sorry to cut you off there, but I really thought that it was time to update. I did have about another four pages written, and was going to post it with this chapter, until I found out that if I put the two pages in, I would also have to type probably another 6 pages with the four pages. That's because the two incidents have to be connected, or else it wouldn't make sense unless you reread this chapter. If I did put those other 10 pages in, then this chapter would've been 18 pages long. To me, that seems just a tad bit too long and people would really get bored.
I feel terrible though. So, in order to make it up, the next chapter will be much longer and more interesting.
Just to tell anyone who might still think this fan fiction is moving really slowly: I just started another fic called The Unbidden. It goes by a lot faster, and is also a Sesshoumaru X Kagome fan fic. But, it is in alternate universe and is rated M (at least I think, can't really remember).
The summary for it is:
With the death of her grandfather, Kagome inherited billions of dollars. Immediately, her Mom enrolls her into an expensive, well-known university. Her new "friends" there try to turn her into a money-loving, not-so-innocent model and actress. Will her real friends be enough to save Kagome from the treacherous claws of her enemies? Or will she need the help of the person she hates most, Sesshoumaru Taisho?
