The sun was low, and the skies had turned a deep orange as Kaede kneeled over a kindling fire, tending to the burning flames with a new pile of dry wood.
"Kagome," she said, leaning back, wiping her brow. Kagome nodded in her direction to show that she had heard what she said. The young miko was enveloped in a history book she had brought over from her time, to study for one of her many upcoming tests.
"Ye have not said a word to Inuyasha, since ye have arrived here. Is something wrong?"
Kagome set down her book, and leaned onto her hands, her head turning to look out the window of Kaede's hut. Inuyasha sat on the tallest branch of the tree, enveloped in the orange light, his amber eyes tilted upwards, fixed on the ever darkening sky.
"Nothing's wrong," she said, picking up her book. It was obvious to Kaede that she did not wish to speak about the matter, and so, she pressed no further.

The next morning, the group was awoken by a yelling Kagome, and a stubborn hanyou.
"Don't ignore me like that!" Kagome yelled, staring up into the depths of the tree. Inuyasha's eyes flashed in the shade, and a smirk formed on his lips as he snorted ignorantly.
"'Don't ignore me like that!'", he mocked, childishly. Kagome gave a loud groan of frustration, her fists clenched at her sides, and she stomped her foot.
"Inuyasha SIT!"
The dog demon screamed as the necklace around his throat became illuminated, and yanked forward, jerking him out of the tree. His form slammed into the terra firma,
creating a large dent in the shape of his body. He tried to ignore the pain that slowly began to escallate from his spine, up to his head, endowing him with a large headache, increasing his foul mood.
"Why''d you do that?!" he snapped, getting to his feet.
"You weren't listening! The Jewel shards are still out there, and we don't have time for laziness! Especially on your part!" He stepped forward, his eyes blazing, as they fixed on Kagomes in an outright glare.
"We wouldn't have to be doing this in the first place if you hadn't broken it!"
"It wasn't my fault! How was I supposed to know it would shatter?"
"You're Kikyo's reincarnation, you should know these things you--"
"Inuyasha! Kagome! Enough!"
Kaede stepped out of the hut, her arms folded under her bosom, more lines etching her face than previousley before.
A timid looking shippo clung to the old preistesses lower adornments, his large eyes peering up at the two, who had stopped their sensless bickering, and fixed their gazes upon the woman.
"Ye have to work together. How many times must I say this? It is vitle for ye to recollect the shards of the jewel, and ye can only acheive that by working together. This useless bickering must be put to end!"
"I second that thought," a deep voice said, from behind Kaede.
Miroku, the 'humble' monk, or so he called himself, stepped out of the hut, rubbing his eyes.
"Shutup, you stupid lecher!" Inuyasha groweled. Miroku simply shook his head. "This journey is far from over, and it will only become longer if you two refuse to co-operate!"
"But Miroku," Shippo said, as he leapt onto the mans shoulder. "From what I heard, Inuyasha is the one who won't comply."
Inuyasha frowned, and slammed his fist onto the top of the small fox demon's cranium. "Stupid kid!"
Kagome hugged her elbows, as her gaze softened. She watched Inuyasha cross his arms, and look up at the sky, his gaze too, becomming soft, his eyes clouding over with thought.
Inuyasha, Kagome thought, before forcing a smile, and picking up the wounded demon child. "Alright, I'm ready to move, if you are!"
