The day was long, and the heat was unrelenting. However, the group pressed on without complaint, sheer determination in each pair of optics.
Kagome fell behind, her pace more relaxed than the others. Inuyasha, who was at the front, was walking with long, powerful confident strides, her large backpack strapped to his broad shoulders. A cooling wind blew by, tousling her school uniform, and she pushed am errant strand of dark hair behind her ear.
Inuyasha hasn't said anything to me all day, she thought, ruefully. Is he still mad at me about this morning?
Ignoring the ache that was slowly building up in the arch of her left foot, Kagome quickened her pace once more, and fell into step beside Sango.
"Sango," Kagome said, uncertainly, pulling her hands behind her back. "..What is it, Kagome?" her friend replied, casting a sideways glance to her.
"Is Inuyasha angry with me? He hasn't said anything to me all afternoon." Sango smiled, reassuringly and shook her head, her raven locks swaying side to side in her loose ponytail. "It isn't you Kagome, this heat has made everyone rather ornery today. Even small Shippo is in a foul mood. And don't worry, Inuyasha isn't angry with you. He hasn't said anything to anyone all day. You know how he is, sometimes."
Yeah, but not with me, Kagome thought sadly, but she nodded anyways.

The rest of the afternoon was uneventful, and by the time Inuyasha stopped to declare they find a place to rest, the exhausted group happily agreed.
The sun had set, and Miroku had started a fire. The group was settling down, with cups of instant noodles and hot tea, which Kagome had produced from her bag.
However, Kagome had insisted she wasn't hungry, and had gotten up to go for a walk.

The air was cool against her bare legs, and Kagome sighed, releived. Although her feet hurt from the days journey, she was happy to go for a walk. Alone.
After what seemed a short while later, Kagome came upon a small stream, in the middle of an overgrown, unattended feild. Kneeling down, she cupped some water between her palms, and brought it to her face. The cooling water felt good against her warm skin, and she sighed happily, drying her hands on the skirt of her uniform.
It's been nearly three months since we've begun to look for the shards, she thought looking up at the dark sky. Inuyasha still worries about Kikyou. He's still in love with her. She blinked, a familiar stinging sensation glazing her eyes. "Why don't you get it, Inuyasha?" she whispered to noone.

Back at the camp, Inuyasha shifted, his golden eyes moving over to the spot where Kagome had been sitting before she stood up and went for a walk.
Tilting his head to the side, a sigh escaped his lips, and he stood up reluctantley. "I'm going to find Kagome. It's late, and hell knows what's out there."
He turned, before Shippou or Miroku could say anything, since Sango had finished her dinner early, and was sleeping blissfully, on one of Kagomes generousley provided sleeping bags.
The force of the wind pushed against Inuyasha's form as he ran towards Kagome's scent, his worrying intensifying. She had seem depressed all day, and he could sense her hesetation all afternoon. Even though they had fought that morning, Inuyasha refused to speak to her out of embarassment. Although, he thought, smiling sourly, he had made it look like his usual ignorance.
After about five minutes of running, and leaping through trees, Inuyasha saw Kagome, out in an overgrown feild, sitting by a stream. Her head tilted back, she was staring at the sky. He caught the raw scent of unshed tears, and swallowed. Leaping down from the tree, he made his way noisely across the feild, towards her. He saw her stiffen, and, as he folded himsel into a seated position beside her, joining her in gazing at the stars, he felt her relax. Abit.
"...Why did you leave?" he snapped, suddenly, breaking the peacful atmosphere. Kagome's dark eyes fixed on him, and he suddenly felt cold. The eyes that looked exactly like Kikyou's..but these held life, caring,...and innocence. Something Kikyou had lost, when she died.
"I wasn't hungry, and I didn't feel...like being there," she mumbled, looking at her hands, which she had clenched tightly into her lap.
"You have to eat, stupid, or you won't be able to continue with us tomorrow."
"What do you care?" At least, thats what it had sounded like, when she mumbled something. "What?" he asked, his hand grabbing her shoulder. "What did you just say?" he groweled. Kagome looked up, and smiled, hiding her emotions, a habit she had gotten into recently. "Nothing," she said, brushing off his hand and standing up. "I should be getting back to camp." With that, she turned and left the hanyou in the feild, without a glance backwards.
