Kagome sat at the campfire, numbly, clutching a blanket around her. Her dark eyes bore into the fire, with a false amusement, as the flames greedily licked at the wood which was turning black and becomming charred. Pushing her hair behind her ears, Kagome shifted and pulled the blanket tighter around her. Although the sun hadn't quite set yet, Sango insisted she make a fire to warm up Kagome, as she had seemed particularly chilled when they had rescued her.
"Are you sure you're alright?" A timid Shippo asked, as he tugged on her blanket gently. Kagome smiled and looked down at the ytoung fox demon. "I'm fine, Shippo." She opened her arms, so that Shippo could sit on her lap, and she enveloped him in the warm blanket as well. Inuyasha sat down by the fire, across from her, his arms crossed, and eyes closed. The traditional brooding mood. Kagome eyed him suspicousley. When this is all over, she thought, ruefully, he'll be glad to get rid of me, I'm sure of it. "Kagome, why are you angry with Inuyasha?" Shippo asked, innocently. Kagome blinked. "What?" "Why are you angry with Inuyasha?" he repeated his question, and she swallowed. Inuyasha had arched an eyebrow and was looking at her questioningly, as if to say, 'Yeah, why are you mad at me?'. "Reasons you wouldn't understand quite yet, Shippo." Kagome said, finally, and she saw Inuyasha's posture slump, and realized he was disapointed."He knows why I'm angry with him," she said bluntly, and resumed staring into the fire.-------Why does she have to be so grumpy? Inuyasha thought moodily, shifting into a more comfortable position. I didn't do anything. Miroku came back with more firewood, and Sango came and sat down by Kagome, and Miroku sat down by Sango. Inuyasha was seated opposite all of them, and he frowned, his foul mood increasing, slowly, but surely. "What the hell?" he snapped, angrily, breaking the tense silence between the group.Sango blinked, and Miroku tilted his head. "What is it, Inuyasha?" he asked, his eyes bearing into the hanyou's."Thats obvious," he grunted, standing up. He turned on his heel and strode sharply out of sight, and into the quickly darkening forest.
A while later, he heard footsteps below him, and Inuyasha looked down through the leavs to see Miroku, looking up at him questioningly. "Things have not been well between you and Kagome," he said, bluntly."They never have been," Inuyasha mumbled, turning away from the monk. "And why is that?" Miroku asked, taking a seat under the tree."Is it because she resembles Kikyou?" Inuyasha was silent, and his silence gave away the awnser. "Inuyasha, you musn't be so shallow." Inuyasha snorted, and laughed ignorantly. "This comming from a lecherous monk." Miroku shook his head. "Cant you see she has feelings for you?" "Yeah, I can. And thats the problem," he muttered. "...Why?" Inuyasha hesetated. "Because I dont feel that way about her. And everyday it gets worse for me. It's like looking into Kikyou's face everyday, knowing that I was the last thing she thought about before she died. And- not in a very pleasent way."Miroku nodded, suddenly sypmathetic for the half demon. "Well, you don't have to act like such a fool around her." He said, simply."I dont!" Inuyasha snapped angrily, peering down through the leavse onto Mirokus head.Miroku simply nodded, stood and brushed off his robes. "If thats the way you feel Inuyasha,"With that, he turned and left Inuyasha in the gloominess of the forest.
