The next morning when Sarah woke up from a deep sleep she noticed she was the only one left in the hut. Outside the hut she found Miroku and Sango leaned against a wooden fence talking.
“Where is everyone? Has Kagome already left?” she asked.
“Not yet.” Sango informed her. “She is saying good-bye to InuYasha.”
“InuYasha hates it when Kagome is away.” Miroku explained. “He often looses his patients and goes after her.”
“They are down there arguing.” Sango said pointing down a slow sloping hill before them.
Sarah could hear them yelling at each other with Kagome finally ending it with her sit command. She turned and started her way back up towards the hut. As she walked by them she gave them a smile and waved good-bye as she started down the path to the well.
“Hey Kagome wait up!” Sarah decided to walk with her. Kagome paused long enough for her to catch up.
“What were you and InuYasha arguing about?” Sarah broke the silence between them.
“He always gets like that when I say I am going home for a couple of days. He thinks we should constantly pursue Naraku and never take a break.” Kagome paused watching the ground pass beneath her feet. “I understand and I want to defeat him as soon as possible too, but I have responsibilities back home that I have to attend to as well.”
“Maybe it's something more than that.” Sarah suggested. “Maybe he misses you.”
Kagome blushed. “What do you mean?”
“Kagome I'm not stupid.” Sarah grinned. “I see the way you two look at each other.”
Kagome continued to blush.
“You should tell me the story behind that sometime.” Sarah smiled.
They soon arrived at the well and Kagome reassured Sarah she would return with a way to return her home. Kagome crawled up on the side of the well and jumped in. Sarah leaned over looking down into the well, but all she could see was dark stone walls and darkness. Then unexpectedly she was caught off balance by a yelling Shippo.
“Is she gone yet?” he yelled as he jumped up on Sarah's shoulder.
Sarah was pushed and could not catch her grip on the side of the well and both of them fell into the well. Sarah felt like she had been falling for quite a while when she landed softly on the cool earth. She looked up and saw a ceiling made of thin wooden boards. There was only a small amount of light inside unlike being outside. She listened closely as she heard footsteps and what sounded like a door shut. `I must have fallen through the well into Kagome's time!' Sarah thought.
“K-Kagome!” Sarah yelled.
Kagome paused only a few steps outside the door. She waited to see if her name would be called out again and it was. Kagome turned and raced inside to check it out. She shined a flashlight down into the well and say Sarah on her hands and knees looking back up.
“Oh I am glad to see you.” Sarah began. “How do I get out of here?”
“Behind you,” Kagome said. “There it's easier to climb up on that side.”
Sarah climbed out of the well and the two made their way outside the small room that housed the well. Outside Sarah stood taking everything in. A huge tree was only a few yards from where she stood. It looked very familiar for some reason. A two story house stood before her and a small storage building. Kagome walked past Sarah, “Come on!”
The girls retreated inside the house. “I'm home!” Kagome yelled.
“Kagome is that you?” Her grandfather answered. He was in the kitchen as usual. A place he tended to horde when her mother wasn't at home.
“Where's mom?” Kagome asked as she led Sarah into a small kitchen.
“She's out shopping.” He replied closing a cabinet door.
“Grandfather you know you shouldn't be eating those cookies.” Kagome scolded him. “Mom will be upset if you don't have appetite when she prepares dinner.”
“Don't you worry about that.” He replied as he noticed Sarah. “Who is she?”
“This is Sarah.” Kagome introduced her. Sarah and Kagome took a seat at the kitchen table and Kagome went on to tell her grandfather about the dilemma at hand.
“I see.” Her grandfather said as Kagome finished her story. He held his hand at his chin. “I will go and see what scrolls we have, maybe something can help her.”
“Great, we are going to get cleaned up.” Kagome replied.
The two girls made their way upstairs. Evening fell as the girls took turns with the bathroom. When Sarah's turn came she ran her bath hot and slipped into the water relaxing. She heard footsteps coming down the hallway and someone tried to open the door. She hear a little boys voice outside the door mumbling something.
“Ah Kagome, don't hog the bathroom!” he said.
Kagome opened her bedroom door, “Souta I'm not in the bathroom, Sarah is.”
The little boy's face turned red as he repeated, “Sarah is? Who is that?”
“It's a long story. I'll explain at dinner.” Kagome said.
Sarah bathed and retreated to Kagome's bedroom. The walls, bed spread, and curtains were pink. The half bed sat against the right wall while a closet and desk were against the wall to the left. Kagome had laid out some clothes she hoped would fit Sarah. She made her way downstairs to find Kagome sitting in the kitchen talking with her mom. Souta sat in the living room playing a video game and her grandfather was hard at work digging out old mythical scrolls.
“Ah you must be Sarah.” Kagome's mom said as she noticed her entering the kitchen. Sarah smiled. “Yes ma'am.”
Kagome's mother sat the table with Kagome's help and sat several foreign dishes on the table. Sarah had never eaten food like this until she crossed into the feudal era. Souta soon joined them along with Kagome's grandfather. Everyone sat around the table eating and discussing events that had taken place while Kagome had been away. Nothing important had happen, but her grandfather told of visitors, Souta talked of school, and her mother informed her of thing she had gathered for Kagome to take back with her when she returned.
“So grandfather have you found anything that could help Sarah?” Kagome asked.
“Not yet, but I will read more after dinner.” He replied taking another helping of food onto his plate.
After dinner was over kagome and Sarah returned upstairs to Kagome's room. Kagome began to prepare for her return to school. She had lost track of her days and today was Friday. She had two days before her return to school. While gathering her books up, Kagome thought of a plan.
“I've got it!” she exclaimed. “You can go home from here!”
“That's right,” Sarah said as if someone had slapped her. “This is modern day, so I can just call home and make arrangements to go home from here.”
“I'll get the phone.” Kagome said as she darted out of her room.
Sarah walked over to her desk looking at Kagome's books. She noticed a calendar sitting on the edge of Kagome's desk. As Kagome entered the room Sarah asked her about the date. “How old is this calendar?”
“Oh, it not old, although it has the wrong month.” Kagome said as she tore off a page revealing the correct month.
“This can't be right!” Sarah said. “The year on this calendar is four years older than the year I left home.”
“Oh no.” Kagome said the smile fading from her face. “Looks like we'll have to come up with another idea.”
Kagome walked back down stairs and returned the phone to its base. She told her grandfather that she still needed him to research the scrolls he had found. He nodded and made his way back outside to retrieve the scrolls he had just taken back out to the small storage building outside. Kagome returned up stairs and found Sarah looking out the bedroom window at the huge tree.
Before Kagome could offer comfort or encouragement Sarah asked, “What is the deal with that tree?”
“That is the tree of ages.” Kagome gave a little smile as she continued. “InuYasha was sealed to that tree by Kikyo's arrow when Naraku tricked them into hating each other.”
Sarah sat on the edge of Kagome's bed. “So…you going to tell me about you and InuYasha?” she asked consumed with curiosity.
Kagome joined her on the bed. “It's complicated.” She said and took a slight pause as if she didn't know where to begin. She then continued on, “Over 50 years ago in the feudal era, InuYasha was sealed to a tree by a sacred arrow from Kikyo. Kikyo was a very powerful priestess whose duty was to protect the sacred jewel from demons and humans. InuYasha had set out to get the jewel for himself to become a full demon. But when he met Kikyo something changed in him. They fell in love. Kikyo at the same time as meeting InuYasha had been caring for Omiguno, a terrible thief who had suffered severe injuries and could not even move. He also fell in love with Kikyo and wanted the sacred jewel. Omiguno gave his body to demons so he could become Naraku and then played an evil trick on Kikyo and InuYasha making them think they had betrayed each other. InuYasha, thinking Kikyo had betrayed him, attacked the village and took the sacred jewel. Kikyo injured from Naraku disguised as InuYasha used the last of her strength to seal InuYasha. Her body was burned along with the jewel. I am her reincarnation. The jewel was inside my body and I never knew. I was dragged back through the well by a demon that was inside. Back in the feudal era I met Kiade and the demon followed me back to her village seeking the jewel inside my body. InuYasha awoke and I freed him to destroy the demon. But he wanted the jewel also. And he attacked me, but Kiade had magical beads that InuYasha now wears that I can use to subdue him anytime.”
“So InuYasha isn't over this Kikyo I take it.” Sarah said.
“Well things probably would have progressed between us, but Kikyo was brought back to life by an evil witch who was going to use Kikyo to get the sacred jewel.” Kagome explained.
“So how did the jewel become jewel shards?” Sarah asked.
“That was my fault.” Kagome blushed. “An evil demon bird had swallowed the jewel and when I shot it with an arrow it shattered the jewel into a million different pieces. Now Naraku has most of them and we have to get them back and defeat him.”
“If Kikyo is the living dead is she like a zombie?” Sarah asked curiously.
“Oh no.” Kagome laughed. “She is the living dead. Her body is made of clay and ash. But her priestess powers still remain. However she does use the souls of the dead to stay in this world.”
Silence filled the room as Sarah sat taking it all in. She still didn't understand why InuYasha was obsessed with Kikyo if she was the walking dead. Kagome broke the silence, “InuYasha feels he owes his life to Kikyo.” Sarah's question answered she remained silent.
Even came and the girls had supper with the family. Afterwards they lay down to go to sleep. The next day they were going to have a day full of exploring. After all Sarah had never been to Japan before and Kagome figured she needed to see some of the sights. Kagome slept soundly in her bed. Sarah lay on a pallet beside her bed in the floor. She stared up at the stars through the bedroom window. She could not sleep. Her mind was buzzing about Sesshoumaru. She began to daydream about his eyes and how she wished he had have said something when she thanked him for helping her.

Meanwhile in the feudal era Shippo had returned to Kiade's and told everyone what had happened at the well.
“So Sarah is able to pass through the well with Kagome.” Kiade said.
“Maybe she will be able to get home now.” Sango said. “The past couple of months must have been hard on her.”
InuYasha was outside on the roof of the hut listening in. He too was curious as what was going on. `I'll give Kagome one more day and if she doesn't come back by then I am going to check things out.'
True to his word InuYasha snuck away from the others the next afternoon. He though if Sarah could go home in Kagome's time then there was no reason for her to prolong her stay. And if she couldn't then both of them should return and the journey to find Naraku should continue. In short he was growing impatient, had been since the day they left.
Sarah and Kagome were completely exhausted. They had visited every store they came across. Kagome had also shown Sarah some of her favorite hangouts when she used to spend more time at home. The two sat talking outside on a bench by the sacred tree. The girls had been joking around, laughing when InuYasha appeared before them with an annoyed look on his face.
“InuYasha?” Kagome said.
“Kagome when are you coming back?” He replied.
“Well I was going to go back to school tomorrow for a couple of days.” She said.
“We don't have time. You've been away for days already.” He began to argue.
Kagome was about to unleash when Sarah nudged her in the arm with her elbow. “He's right. I can't get home from here. Your grandfather hasn't found anything to help me here so maybe the answer lies somewhere in the feudal era.”
“I guess school can wait.” Kagome sighed.
The two girls went in the house and upstairs to prepare to go back to the past. InuYasha waited for them in the den teasing the family cat. Kagome was a bit discouraged as she packed her backpack. Sarah began to notice as she brought in more first aid supplies from the bathroom.
“Kagome you know the real reason he came back for you.” Sarah brought to her attention. Kagome gave a blank stare to Sarah. “He missed you.”
Kagome blushed, “I just feel overwhelmed sometimes when he does this. I need to keep up in school to graduate this year, but he's right. Naraku won't find himself and no one else can sense the jewel shards.”
The three made their way back through the well and to Kiade's village. They spent the night there and would set out looking for Naraku the next day. Again Sarah found her mind wondering back to Sesshoumaru as she lay down to sleep. `Why do I keep doing this? Every time I get still he's all I can think about.'
