Chapter 8: So It Begins
“Do you think you can take on the most vile hanyou by yourself and without any training, no less?” With that, Sesshomaru turned to leave, but his wrist was caught by a soft, small hand. “Gomen, Sesshomaru-sama…but, who will be training me?” Her voice was too timid for her liking.
“Me, miko. I will see you in the morning.”

Kagome decided that she would take charge of her situation, arguing with herself as she stomped down the hallways to her room. These hallways no longer intimidated her after she had walked them for about 2 weeks now. The tapestries no longer had a mystical gloom, and the big white dogs portrayed in the paintings no longer jumped out at her, and captivated her soul. She was oppressed; this spatial palace was a prison, right down to the wrought iron balustrades around her balcony. She wasn't meant to be a caged bird, she was an outdoor creature…a nymph of nature.
Looking out her window, she no longer found the autumn hues that took the place of fresh flowers to be a sign of nature's beauty, but only found that the sunset was mocking her while she was locked inside of her cell. Kagome wasn't like any other woman of the feudal era; silk kimonos, an abundance of sleeping furs, and magnificent artwork did not please her as freedom did. She didn't know how much longer she would be able to take this torture, forever enslaved by the chirping of birds that dared her to escape.
Settling within the mass of covers on her futon, she found sleep to be evading her, closing her eyes for a couple of seconds, then reopening them when she thought about her training session with Sesshomaru in the morning. Kagome felt that she had no need for training sessions, but did not want to stand up to the fury of the Western Lord. She would have her day, and finally escape any oppression that threatened to take away her freedom. Kagome would complete the jewel and leave oppression behind. After this determined thought, she fell asleep with a heavy heart.

Naraku cooed as Kanna left the room after showing her omniscient mirror's latest revelation. He was surprised that breaking the Inuyasha team up would be so easy, but was not surprised that Kikyo did such a good job of it. In return for driving Kagome away, Kikyo would receive the rest of her soul after Kagome was killed by Sesshomaru. It would only be a matter of time before the Western Lord got so fed up with her.
Naraku gained much by destroying Inuyasha's crew, and eventually killing the persistent miko. Not only did he get a free rut with Kikyo, but he got the jewel. Also, seeing the hurt and shocked expressions on the faces of Kagome's companions would be a definite plus.
Sure, he knew he was a sadistic bastard, but he had a damn good time of it.

Kagome awoke to Sesshomaru once more, roughly jerking her awake. “Wow, you're gentle…” She spat out, annoyed that she was awakened out of a pleasant dream.
“Miko, get dressed and meet me in the dojo. It is down the hall on the right of the library. If you are not there in 15 minutes, we will commence training outside in the rain.” Shocked at his forwardness, she turned to look outside her window when she left. It was indeed raining. Jumping out of bed and grabbing a taijiya outfit out of the armoire, she sprinted to the hot springs with bathing supplies in tow.
The marble floor underneath her bare feet was unusually icy, probably due to the fact that in the Western Lands, there was no such thing as a real autumn season. Shivering, she quickly rid herself of her sleeping yukata, and turned around to view her back. Just two weeks ago, it was a nasty yellow color, the flesh being cauterized by Sesshomaru's poison, but now it was completely healed with the faintest of scars serving as proof of their history together and reason for her to be scared of Sesshomaru.
She slipped into the warm water, letting it caress her back muscles that had been under strain during her stay here. Kagome was not used to such tension between beings, especially since she generally got along with everyone. Sesshomaru was a completely different story. She snorted as she remembered the many times that Sesshomaru was not ashamed to show his pompous arrogance.
After washing her hair, she let the aroma of the soaps available to her wash over her, and calm her senses. They dulled her mind and let every trouble slip away. Sighing in contentment, she decided that it was time to get out and join Sesshomaru in the dojo, hoping that she hadn't spaced out for too long. She slipped into the taijiya outfit and put her hair into a high ponytail, tying it with a green ribbon that went perfectly with her armor. Quickly cursing herself as she whisked a few stray strands of hair behind her ear, she all but sprinted to the dojo, surprised that she remembered where it was.
Pushing the huge doors open, she was met by a very annoyed Sesshomaru. “Miko, you are late. Did I not make it clear that—” He was interrupted.
“Gomen Sesshomaru! Your soaps are frickin' drugged or something! It isn't my fault that I'm late…besides, you shouldn't have woken me up this early anyway, and it's still dark out!” Her rambling was silenced by the click of Sesshomaru's tongue…he was pissed. He quickly appeared in front of her, grabbing her by the scruff of her taijiya outfit, and growling menacingly into her ear, causing her to shiver.
“You, little ningen, are in no status to question me, or threaten me. If I say don't be late, then I advise you that if you want to save yourself some discomfort, you'll do well to listen.” He threw open the doors leading to the outside training grounds, and threw her to the slick cement, then turning her back on her to retrieve weapons.
“You jerk! That hurt!” Kagome nursed her bruised elbow after being thrown onto the far side of the training grounds. She shut her mouth quickly after seeing him visibly stiffen, his hand clenching and unclenching, and his back straightening before turning to walk slowly back to the trembling miko.
“I'm sorry, miko, have I not made myself clear? What do you not understand?” At this, he lifted her up by her ponytail, making her squeal and claw at his hands. He stooped to whisper in her ear. “I am your superior. QUESTION ME AND FACE THE CONSEQUENCES…!” He yelled into her ear before kneeing her in the stomach, and dropping her to the wet cement.
Kagome was stunned. Paralyzed. He had been successful in knocking the wind out of her, causing her pain, humiliating her, but was not successful in taking away her spirit. After he returned with two swords, Toujikin, and a smaller unknown blade, she was ordered to stand up.
Grasping the sword and feeling its weight before fully rising to her feet, she grit out a greeting to the youkai lord. “I hate you.” She watched as his eyes betrayed his emotion, and flashed a brilliant gold before turning red. He lunged at her, backhanding her while she fruitlessly tried to stop this onslaught of violence. Kagome lay still for several seconds, before shakily getting to her feet and spitting out blood that was the result of her cut cheek. Gripping the sword tightly with both hands, she lowered it to her right side as she had seen Inuyasha do many times before delivering the final blow, and ran as fast as she could at Sesshomaru.
In a white blur, he sidestepped her attack, and quickly reappeared behind her. He almost laughed out loud when he could sense her confusion, seeing her drop one of her hands from her sword and extend her miko senses. However, she didn't do this quick enough as he rammed her back with the blunt side of his sword, making her cough. Hovering over her bent form, he whispered in her ear, “Lesson number one, little miko…never lose sight or turn your back upon your opponent.” She gasped at his evil snicker before she felt him kick her left hand, the hand that held her sword.
“No!” She screamed as she saw her blade fly out of her hand, and to the other side of the training ground. He pulled her ponytail back to whisper in her ear once more. “Lesson number two, always keep your weapon in check, little miko.” Before she could react, she heard the rustle of silk then felt his foot collide with the front of her ankles, sending her to the cement below once more. He chuckled at her surprised look when she didn't feel skull hit cement, but was caught by his hand behind her head.
“Miko, you have a duty, as do I. Your duty is to save Japan, and my duty is to protect you while you do so.” He fingered her cheek before dipping down to kiss her lightly on the lips, gently caressing her lower lip with his tongue. He set her head down gently and was gone with a flash before she had a chance to look him in the eye.
The harsh weather was the only witness to the questionable event that occurred that morning.

Sesshomaru rose from his seat behind the desk stacked with innumerable amounts of paperwork that he tried one too many times to escape from. He rubbed his temples, trying to rid his thoughts of a certain miko. He knew that there was a bond between them, an unforeseen event had brought them together, and he didn't think that he could question the Fates and rid himself of her presence. Kagome was a lost soul that he had hoped to foster and care for, but only caused her more pain as he tried to break her spirit and bend her to his will. However, the only will that Kagome knew was her own.
He pounded his fist into the desk. He couldn't help but admit to himself that he was attracted to her. She was powerful, which was appealing to his youkai side, but his rational side couldn't help but be disgusted with himself…a conflicting battle over the young miko that often resulted in violence against her. She was truly an enigma, a fiery spirit and selfless soul fit into a petite, and beautiful body. Why she put up with years of Inuyasha's crap was beyond him, but now she would only face crap from him until his rational side accepted her as his equal. He would be surprised at how quick this would occur.
Locking up his study, he used his youkai speed to rush to just outside her door, listening to the rustling of silks as she settled in for bed. He reached for the screen door, then pulled back his hand. Closing his eyes to gain control and let his façade slip into place, he pushed it open ever so slightly, his eyes adjusting instantly to the darkness and falling upon her sleeping form. His nose was simultaneously assaulted by her sweet scent, soon finding himself desiring to experience all of her. With a fluid motion he lifted her up off of her futon cradling her in his arms. Hushing her with a few tender words, he made his way to his room.
Kagome found herself on a soft bed in mere seconds, looking up into sparkling golden orbs before they lowered to stare straight into hers. She blushed and turned away, only to be caught by a finger curled under her chin. Sesshomaru lowered his lips to brush against hers before sliding his tongue against her lips, asking for entrance. She moaned against his mouth before pushing up against him, breaking the kiss. It confused her indefinitely as to why Sesshomaru was being this way. What was wrong with him?
“D-Doushite? Sesshomaru…I…I don't understand…” Kagome said quietly. This perplexed Sesshomaru, was she rejecting him? He had wanted to develop his relationship with her, but she didn't understand that someone was accepting her. Accepting Kagome.
This would be harder than he thought. Pondering, he fell asleep spooned around a content, but confused, Kagome. “So the chase begins…” He murmured under his breath.
YAAAAY. Another chapter down…the plot thickens!
