ThreeSleep eluded Inuyasha for a long while. It was hours later that he carefully disengaged himself from Kagome and grabbing his sword, he headed into the palace corridors. He had no real destination, he merely wandered and before long he caught the scent of Rin and that of his brother. It was stronger here, he assumed that he'd stumbled on the family wing.A door opened to his right and he came face to face with an irritated Sesshoumaru. "What do you want?" the elder demanded, his tone cool as ever. Inuyasha, ever on the defensive shot back, "I was just walked, it's not like I was looking for you!"Sesshoumaru pushed his door wider and stepped back, "Lower your voice or you'll wake Rin," he said. he beckoned Inuyasha into his rooms. It was then that Inuyasha realized that his brother was dressed from travel. "Where are you goin?" he asked as he shut the door behind him. Sesshoumaru was half way across the large room, "I have told you I was leaving" he reminded shortly.Inuyasha felt his stomach drop. "Already? Now?!" he asked. He was not ready to take on the responsibilities of the west, and though his brother had said he'd not be gone long, Inuyasha was well aware that demons counted time much differently than humans.Sesshoumaru gave him a knowing look, "What is wrong Inuyasha? Do the obligations of our father's blood weigh too heavily on you?". Inuyasha growled in his throat, he had no experience in these things, but he did have a pack and he figured it couldn't be that much different. "It's fine. Just hurry up" he said flatly.Sesshoumaru nodded and looked back at the mirror. "I shall be leaving and returning from here" he explained. Inuyasha gingerly approached the mirror, his gaze tracing every curve but he did not touch it. A thought occurred to him then and he turned his head to look at his brother."If she ran from you, what makes you think she'll come back?" he asked bluntly. Sesshoumaru stiffened but his brother didn't seem to notice. It was a long minute later that his brother spoke in an almost hesitant voice, "I have no guarantees," he admitted, "However I do know her. If the facts are presented she will make the correct choice."Inuyasha mulled it over, "You sure about that?". Sesshoumaru ran his claws through his long hair. "If she will not return for me, she will return for the sake of humankind and to defeat Naraku. All I need do is get her here." Sesshoumaru hoped she would come for his sake and not the coming battle."A handful of centuries is a long time to be apart," Inuyasha mused, "What makes you think she still wants to be your mate? Humans see these things differently." Because he of course was the resident expert on humans. "Because she is mine and bound to me." Sesshoumaru snapped. His brother was asking questions that he was not certain of and he disliked that.Inuyasha was silent for a long while. He wondered how he would feel if he and Kagome were wed and he transformed and killed villagers. Would she run from him? Would she come back? How would it feel to be away from her like this? He turned his eyes to Sesshoumaru who watched him carefully. The eldest narrowed his gleaming eyes, "I do not want your sympathy Inuyasha" he ground out. Inuyasha held his gaze a moment more. 'You may not want it Sesshoumaru, but you have it'."Kagome is sleeping?" Sesshoumaru asked then. Inuyasha nodded, "She might wake in a while. She'll get cold". Sesshoumaru kept his eyes fixed on the mirror. "When will you mate her?" he asked. Inuyasha glared at him, "Don't ya think that's kinda personal?"Sesshoumaru huffed, "Inuyasha. I may not have pups of my own. We are the last of father's blood. The line cannot be lost. Do you understand?" Inuyasha continued to glare, "I thought I had dirty blood". Sesshoumaru decided to push his brother's buttons a bit. "That's true. Better I leave pups with Kagome".Inuyasha's outrage and possessiveness were swift and expected, "You son of a bitch, you are not touching Kagome! You got that? I'll rip that goddamn arm off". Sesshoumaru waved his hand impatiently, "Calm yourself fool. I have no intention of touching your woman. Continue the line Inuyasha, it must be safeguarded".Inuyasha understood what Sesshoumaru meant but the fact remained that he and Kagome were individuals and you didn't just command that this kind of thing be done. "No way" Inuyasha told him firmly, "I have to beat Naraku and then it's up to her. I'm not rushing into anything".Sesshoumaru nodded, though his expression said he was far from happy. "Inuyasha, do you care for the woman?" Inuyasha flushed redder than his firerat robes, "Well yeah. Don't you care about your wife?" Sesshoumaru narrowed his eyes in shrewd thought, "I am not the topic of this discussion. Kagome loves you and you are too wrapped up in this quest to see matters through. Take the woman and kill your enemy".Inuyasha was about to ask what he meant but the mirror's frame took on an eerie glow. Not unlike the well between worlds. Sesshoumaru stood before it, his handsome features bathed in the bright light. "Do not fail Inuyasha". Then the light faded and the half demon was left alone in the cool chambers staring at the now-dark mirror. His brows drew together in a frown, "What the hell".He sank into the seat and propped his chin on his knuckles. He was not aware just how much like his sibling he looked in that moment. His brother's words ate at him. Just down the hall, curled in his bed was the woman he wanted more than anything. If there had been no Naraku, no jewel, no war - he'd have done as his brother said. He'd have marked and mated her and not thought twice of it. But then if none of those things were real, he'd not have met her at all.He had never cared for his brother's wishes. Sesshoumaru was a cold hearted bastard who didn't care about others. A bastard who took in an orphaned human girl. Had protected Kagome on more than one occasion, and who had bound himself to a mortal woman, who'd left him. Things weren't as easy as they'd once been. He was not the half demon he'd thought himself to be and his brother was a paradox. With a sigh, he glanced back at the mirror. "I'll do what I can here Sesshoumaru, but you better hurry". He stood to leave the room. He paused at the door, "Good luck". The door shut with a click of a finality that he hoped would not be reflected in his brother's endeavor.Kagome had woken in the dark, chilled and alone. She'd reached for the familiar warmth of Inuyasha but her hand had encountered cool sheets. He'd been gone for some time. She sat up, clutching the sheets her chest. The door opened and closed quietly and she sat against the massive headboard, watching as Inuyasha leaned against the door. His eyes locked on hers, and while he was little more than a silver lined shadow to her, she was a clear image to him. "How long have you been awake?" he asked across the darkness. Kagome started to get up but he was already striding towards the bed. "Long enough to wonder where you went" she told him. He hmpfed, "I couldn't sleep, went for a walk". She said nothing and lay back down. She always felt better when he was near.He watched her root around beneath the covers for a moment. When she was finally settled and he was staring at her back, he sat down on the opposite side of the bed. He'd been thinking of Sesshoumaru's words all the way back. He wanted to give in to his desires. Wanted that woman beneath him. He'd only just managed to tame the raging erection he'd been sporting. Now the twitch was happening again and he gritted his teeth against it."Kagome," he said at length, "We need to talk". Kagome felt her heart constrict, her secret fear that he would tell her his choice was made flaring in her. Inuyasha caught the scent of her fear and wondered at it. He reached over to cup her shoulder, "Hey, what's with you?". She shook her head, trying to breathe. Nothing to do but listen now. "About what Inuyasha?" she asked, her voice sounded slightly hoarse.Inuyasha gently tugged her until she was on her back, looking at him. "The kind of things that have to be said face to face" he said softly. Kagome felt the tears well up in her eyes, his expression was direct and serious and that couldn't bode well for her. She changed her mind, she didn't want to hear after all. "It's okay Inuyasha" she hastily blurted, "I know that you love Kikyo and when this is all over I'll just go home. I accept your choice, it does hurt but I want you to be happy".Inuyasha was torn between shaking her for jumping to conclusions and hugging her tightly for being so kind hearted. He settled for his age old weapon instead... sarcasm. "Gee thanks for being so understanding. A shard detector AND a mind reader... wow did I luck out" he quipped. She felt the tears slip down her cheeks a second before Inuyasha wiped them away with the backs of his fingers."Can I have a say now?" he asked, his tone soft and slightly scolding, "You really do need to shut up sometimes". Her outrage took her breath away and he merely chuckled at her. Her lips parted to deliver a scalding response but he pressed his finger to them and shushed her at once. "Kikyo is dead. I will protect her Kagome, I will keep her safe from Naraku and make certain that she is put back to rest. That said, I have definite plans for where you'll be when this over and it ain't in your age". She lay silent and wide eyed, listening as he went on, "You promised that you would always be by my side and I mean to see that you keep your word. Things are.... well they are different now. Sesshoumaru doesn't think that he will carry on my father's name"Kagome was a little confused, while she was happy to hear about Kikyo she did have to wonder how the Taiyoukai came into the picture. Inuyasha read that confusion and so he spoke again, "I wanted the battle to be over, the jewel complete. I want you.... to be....mine"Kagome slowly pushed herself up to a sitting position. She searched his eyes but found only sincerity there...and a blush. She reached out to him, but he caught her hand and held it. "I want you to be the mother of my pups Kagome, and I don't want to wait until the end of the battle. If Sesshoumaru fails to carry on the line, then it falls to me to see that done"Kagome blushed red as fire, "You mean you want to have a kid?" she asked in a shocked tone. Inuyasha nodded, "I would like to have you to myself for a while first though" he admitted. Kagome didn't know what to say. In her defense it was a lot to absorb in one night. She did want children, but much later. That they would not see the end of the battle in victory was unthinkable. That Sesshoumaru would fail was unthinkable. Inuyasha watched her intently and she swallowed. "Inuyasha I hear what you are saying and I am flattered but.." she broke off when he stood. He did not look at her, "But you don't want a half demon, I understand" he finished for her. He made it halfway across the room, his heart barely holding itself together. How could he have read her so wrong?A sharp pain in his head made him stop and spin. She'd thrown her shoe at him! He stared at the unbelievable woman. "What the hell was that for?" he demanded, rubbing the lump that had resulted. Kagome was furious, "How dare you Inuyasha?" she shouted at him. He felt his ears clamp to his skull. She rose and stormed over to him, poking her little finger into his chest, "Who do you think I am?" she raged on, "I have spent a few years tagging along with you and putting up with you. Now you barge in here like this and spout all this at me and just because I have a hard time saying what I mean you jump to conclusions and rush off!"Inuyasha glared down at her, a spark of hope in his chest. "Well you sure never had problems talking before!" he snapped at her. She gritted her teeth, "You are such a pain in the ass sometimes! I want kids, sure but I am not ready to be a mom right now Inuyasha" she exploded whacking him in the chest for good measure before she turned to go back to bed, "Kami! I don't even know why I love you sometimes!"It was all he wanted to hear. Inuyasha grabbed her wrist, spinning her back against his chest. Kagome pulled her face away from his robes and stared at him, "Inu....yasha?" she asked. The half demon, eyes lit with victory slammed his lips down onto hers in a fierce kiss.Kagome clutched at the front of his robes and tried to make her legs stay locked. Inuyasha's lips were like hot velvet against her own. She gasped when he ran a fang along the pillow of her bottom lip and the demon closed in. His tongue slid against her lip and between her teeth. Kagome had never had this kind of kiss before. Inuyasha's big hand was holding the back of her head and when his tongue brushed against hers, she moaned.Electricity ran through her. His scent rising around her, male spice and heat. Kagome felt a strange heat flow through her limbs and pool in her stomach. She couldn't think, her thoughts consumed by his hungry advance on her. Her resistance if she'd ever really had any crumbling as he lapped at her mouth.Inuyasha knew she needed air and slowly he pulled from her, catching her lower lip in a final sucking tug that made her breath hitch. Her eyes were slow to open and her little fingers were buried in his robes. His hand slid from her hair to brush his thumb against the moist kiss-bruised lips before him. His other arm was banded around her tightly.Kagome took great gulping breaths and tried to steady herself but he was too close and she was drowning in that gaze. "Inuyasha?" she asked breathlessly. He leaned forward to brush his nose against hers, "Yeah?" She closed her eyes, trying to gain control and he let her bury her face beneath his chin, in his chest. The submissive gesture sent his demon into comfort mode.He dropped his chin to her hair and growled softly, an almost inaudible sound. The vibration of his chest meant to soothe and calm. Kagome leaned into it, rubbing her cheek against the hot silk of his robe. "What is happening?" she asked then. Inuyasha hugged her against him, "Well, I was wanting to make love to my woman," he whispered back. She stiffened and leaned back to meet his gaze, "But I won't do that until you say so".Kagome felt her heart flood with warmth and joy. She wanted to give in, but she wasn't sure. Carefully she pushed back, "Inuyasha... do you love me?" she asked. He met her pleading gaze, "I do Kagome, more than anything" he promised her. She smiled, a radiant smile that left his heart thudding hard in his chest. She traced gentle fingers over his jaw, "Then please, this is new for me... I'm not sure I'm ready". He took her hand, pressed a kiss to the soft white palm. He'd kind of expected this, she was such an innocent. "I can wait Kagome," he told her and she relaxed against him, "Just don't make me wait forever okay?"He had no intentions of waiting too much longer anyway. Kagome's hesitance stemmed from her fear of the unknown and he deduced that if it wasn't such an unknown - well then she'd have nothing to be afraid of and no reason to deny him anymore. Now that he'd talked himself into allowing himself this, he was more than ready to talk her into it as well. His devious mind formed a plan, a surefire plan. One that would be hell on him for the next few days, perhaps even weeks. A mere mortal might balk at the challenge before them but Inuyasha was made of stiffer stuff than that.. at the moment quite literally.
