Hey!! Although this is one of my first Inuyasha fanfics, it's not (by far) my first fanfic!! Actually I've written quite a few!! Just as a note to the reader, this story is actually a continuation of another I am in the process of writing. Consider it a "lemonade preview" of my upcoming fic, which I will post depending on the response I get for this one!! I sincerely hope I get a few people to review and say they like it so that way I can post knowing someone will read!!

Anyways, enjoy yourself and my lemon. A/N: Akumu is Japanese for "nightmare". Teehee!!

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha, never have, never will. Unless God suddenly decides to grant my wishes…*sigh* if only…

Chapter One: Death Under a Moonlit Night...

********************************************************* ***

Inuyasha cradled his injured arm to his body as he slowly limped through the deep forest in search of his missing Kagome, lost after this seemingly fated battle with the powerful wolf youkai, Akumu.

"Kuso!" he snarled, "She could be anywhere!"

He wasn't mad at Kagome so much as he was mad at himself. He should have seen it coming…seen the youkai's attack from the left, but by the time he had, the monster was already on top of him, his jaws at his throat. It had seemed to Inuyasha that death had finally come forth to claim its long waited prize. Many a time had Inuyasha dodged the cold grip of fatality and lived to fight again. But this time, Death decided to hunt a new victim…and Inuyasha feared that he might have succeeded in claiming her.

Kagome…you baka!! What the hell were you thinking??

Kagome, in a spur of irrational thinking, had attacked the wolf youkai armed with just her bow and arrows. The arrows had been worthless, easily knocked away or blocked by Akumu's lowly followers, members of his demonic pack. When Kagome had seen him pinned underneath the monster's claws, she panicked, rushing in and beating at Akumu with her bow.

Akumu had simply lashed out at her with his claws, tearing a chunk of flesh from her arm and hurling her into his wolves so they might have the pleasure of finishing her off. The last thing Inuyasha had seen before the blood from Akumu's cut throat poured over him, was Kagome's screaming body being dragged into the dark woods by two of Akumu's wolves.

Now here he was, tracking them down, frantically trying to catch a hint of Kagome's scent, trying to find anything that might lead him to her. But the smell of Akumu's blood mixed with her own, making it nearly impossible to track his young ward's scent.

Inuyasha stumbled as his leg caught against an unearthed tree root, the Tetsusaiga clattering away from his lax grasp, landing in the dirt some feet away. Inuyasha paused where he was, facedown in the soil, tears threatening to pour from his eyes. He couldn't smell her…couldn't hear her anymore…

"Inuyasha!!Help me!!"

Her screams still echoed in his ears, torturing him to the brink of insanity. How had it come to this? Kagome's death was at his hands and he could have prevented it.

"Damn it!!" he swore, pounding at the dirt, "Damn it, how could this have happened!? I…I could have saved her…"

"Inuyasha…"

Her voice…even know it begins to haunt him…wanting revenge for his negligence.

"Inuyasha…!"

There was a pain in his arm…the poison from Akumu's bite no doubt, spreading through his body, slowly killing him from the inside out. He could feel its evil spreading through out his entire body, devouring his flesh and bone. Killing him.

"Inuyasha!!"

The dog hanyou rolled over onto his back, staring up at the bright stars above, the moon standing guard over its precious treasures. The night seemed so beautiful…a wonderful night for his blackened soul to finally pass on. With Kagome dead, there was no purpose for his survival any longer. She was the reason he kept going…the reason he lived and fought for. Now that reason was gone forever…another victim at the hands of his weakness.

His vision was blurring, the stars and moon mixing together in a bright band. The poison was spreading up his arm, engulfing him and preparing him for his final passage into darkness. He closed his worn, golden eyes, a feeling of release coming over his weary body. Soon, his fighting and pain would come to an end.

Kagome…I'll be with you soon…

"Inuyasha!! Oh my god, are you alright??"

Inuyasha's eyes snapped open and he found himself staring into the deep eyes of a girl. The same girl that had been taken from him only moments ago.

"Ka…Kagome?" he managed to whisper, "Is that really you?"

Kagome's figure leaned over him, the corners of her eyes dotted with tears, "Of course it's me!! Oh, Inuyasha your wounds are serious…we have to get you back to Kaede!"

Inuyasha winced as Kagome reached down and gathered his torso into her arms, struggling to pick up his limp body, "Ah! Kagome…stop. Just stop…"

The girl paused, staring down into Inuyasha's eyes, "Please Inuyasha, if we don't do something quick you'll die!!" She slowly sank back to the ground, resting the silver locked head of her hanyou across her lap.

Inuyasha stared back up into her eyes, a smile slowly crossing his face, "You're alright, I hope…"
"I'm fine," Kagome answered, gently stroking Inuyasha's smooth strands of hair. They flowed between her finger tips, a river of beautiful hair that even she had come to envy. The thought of a demon possessing such amazing hair was beyond her, and she always made a point of being able to touch it, whenever she could.

Inuyasha closed his eyes, relishing in the soft touch of Kagome's fingertips, "That…feels nice, Kagome. Please don't stop…"

Filled with new earnest, Kagome continued to run her hand through his hair, giggling as a low growl escaped from between the hanyou's lips, "So you like that, huh? I'm glad I can do something that you like!"

Suddenly, Inuyasha's hand came up, grabbing Kagome's wrist and halting her ministrations. He opened his eyes to stare up at her, a serious look crossing his face, "Kagome…don't ever think for a minute that you can't do anything that wouldn't please me. Your presence next to me is enough to give me such joy that you couldn't imagine." His eyes slowly shifted from her face to the dark sky above, "I only wish that I could enjoy you just a little bit longer…"

"What?" Kagome whispered her heart clutching. Oh no…

A grim smile danced on Inuyasha's face, "Akumu…his fangs are filled with a deadly poison…when he attacked you and threw you to his wolves, I fought back, punching at him. But the damn bastard bit my arm…almost took it off…but I avenged you, Kagome. I threw him off of the cliff and vanquished the rest of his youkai pack. For you."

"What do you mean for me?" Tears had begun to slip down Kagome's face. Fear was clawing at her body.

Inuyasha reached up, dabbing away a falling tear with his finger before taking her hand in his own, "I thought I'd lost you, Kagome…I though you were dead." He brought her hand to his lips, gently kissing it, "I'm so happy that you're not. Unfortunately, this poison won't let me live much longer so I should tell you now what I've wanted to say forever…."

Kagome's heart was pounding in her throat, her breath coming in short gasps.

"I love you Kagome…with all my heart and soul…"
The girl sat there for a moment, staring into Inuyasha's fading golden eyes, her mind whirling in a thousand directions. He'd finally said it…the three little words that seemed impossible for any mortal or immortal to say when true love grew in their hearts. But Inuyasha had said it, even if it was in his final throes of life, he'd said it and meant it.

Inuyasha lay on Kagome's lap, waiting for a response from the frozen girl. Finally she reached down, stroking his burning face. "I'm so sorry, Inuyasha…why did this have to happen?"

She bent down, her eyes hooded as she touched her lips to Inuyasha's. She didn't have to be a demon to catch the musky smell of battle about him, yet every time he returned to her; it was that smell that drew her ever closer, making her love him more and more. She held his face between her hands, deepening the kiss until it all but consumed them.

Inuyasha smiled bitterly. At least, he had kissed Kagome…at least he had tasted her sweetness. He could feel his life draining from his body, blood seeping from his arm and soaking into the grass. His heartbeat began to falter and in a passionate move, he thrust his tongue into her mouth to take a bit of his Kagome with him when he crossed over.

He finally pulled away, staring up into Kagome's tear-brimmed eyes. Reaching and cupping her cheek in his hand, he gave the reborn miko a small smile as his heart slowly faded.

"Don't forget, Kagome…I love you…"

Kagome stared on in horror as the powerful hanyou, Inuyasha, closed his eyes and allowed his heart one final beat. His head fell limp against her lap, his shallow chest finally falling flat and going still.

She cried out in pain, gathering up Inuyasha's head and hugging the dead hanyou to her heart, "No! Inuyasha!! Please don't leave me…not now!! I need you!!"

She sobbed into his thick, silver mane; her tears failing to awaken the hanyou that had protected her for so long…her greatest love had been taken from her.

"So he's finally dead, huh?"

Kagome lifted her dry eyes to that of the risen Kikyo. The miko stood over the two, her eyes shifting from Inuyasha's prone form to the tearful face of Kagome. "I am surprised that I did not see his death coming…not so soon anyways."

Kagome cradled her dead love closer to her body, "What…what are you talking about?"

"Inuyasha still has much to do…I can feel his restless soul with in his body." Kikyo's eyes narrowed, her eyes glowing slightly. A large blue orb glided from within the dead Inuyasha, floating over into Kikyo's waiting hands, "Yes…his soul is strong and powerful…"

Kagome reached out a hand as if to take back Inuyasha's soul, "No, please don't absorb his soul, Kikyo!! I'm begging you, let him rest in peace!"

Kikyo stared at Kagome, "I would only take Inuyasha's soul when it's time for me to return to Hell. That time is not now."

The orb began to pulse, its gentle glow growing in intensity. With each contraction, Inuyasha also pulsed, his body gently jerking against Kagome's arms. She stared at the orb in amazement.

"What's…what's happening?"

"I'm giving Inuyasha life again." Kikyo answered simply, "His time has not yet come and shall not for some time."

The orb suddenly shot from Kikyo's hands, rushing back into Inuyasha. The hanyou's body arched off of the ground, levitating inches from the ground as a halo of blue light surrounded him. Kagome stood; staring across Inuyasha's floating body at the stern Kikyo.

"I have given him life again and I do not wish for your thanks. As I said, Inuyasha still has a purpose in this world and that purpose happens to be you." Kikyo lowered her eyes and Inuyasha slowly sank to the ground, the light fading out until the forest was dark again. The resurrected miko stared at Kagome a moment longer before turning away, "His life has returned to him now, Kagome…I have given you the chance to show him how much you love and care. It would be wise for you to take advantage of the situation."

Kagome stared after Kikyo's disappeared figure before she bowed her head solemnly, "Thank you…Kikyo…"

********************************************************* *********************Inuyasha felt his body slowly descending ever downwards, his form pulled towards some unknown force. He could feel a great heat surrounding him; see the skulls that lined the passage that he fell down. Screams were wavering up from the dark depths of this underworld, souls shooting past him, clawing at his kimono. He knew where he was going…

Suddenly, gravity seemed to force itself back onto his body, his form shooting down and landing in a heap before the massive feet of a monstrous youkai. The black haired demon stood before Inuyasha, its huge arms crossed over its broad chest, head tilted to one side as he observed the demon before him through his great yellow eyes. The youkai reached into the front of his sleeveless, red robe and pulled out a long scroll. The scroll unraveled itself, nearly bowling Inuyasha over in the process.

"Hey, watch it!" Inuyasha cried from his place on the floor, "You almost hit me with that thing!!"

"Silence!" the youkai barked, its long tail smacking the ground pointedly, "You are in the realm of Hell and should have more respect for your impending doom." The youkai scanned the scroll, occasionally glancing up and staring at the squatting hanyou. Finally, with a snap of his fingers, the scroll sprung from his hands and raveled itself, hurling itself back into its place in the youkai's robe.

"You are the hanyou called Inuyasha, correct?"

Inuyasha stood, dusting off his pants, "Yea what of it?"

The youkai stepped forward, nearly dwarfing Inuyasha with its foot alone, "Strange…your name does not appear on the list of the condemned…you have no place in neither Hell nor Nirvana…"

"Eh?" Inuyasha blinked, "Then what am I supposed to do?"

The youkai snorted as if the answer was obvious, "You are to return to the surface world. Be gone."

"Now wait just a damn minute!!" Inuyasha shouted, jumping forward, "There's no way I'm going back up there! I died for someone and for me to just suddenly go back and walk around like some disturbed soul really doesn't sit well with me! So I suggest you move your giant ass and let me in here!"

Inuyasha took a step forward but the youkai moved to block his path, "You are not to enter!! Return to the surface now!"

"Forget it!! Get out of my way!!"

The youkai snarled viciously, "Sit!!"

"Huh…? Ahhhh!!!"

Inuyasha found himself face down in the dirt, the familiar submission spell ringing through the giant cavern. "How…how did you…?"

The giant youkai stared down at the submissive hanyou triumphantly, "You forget that this is Hell. The miko's spells apply here too and can be said by anyone with power. As for you, you disobedient dog, you must return to the surface to live."

"Whadda ya mean, 'live'?" Inuyasha snapped, sitting back cross-legged and folding his arms, "Did you just hear me? I said I died for someone and I don't want to be a wandering ghost forever!! Gods, why can't you just let me stay down here and rot??"

"Because your name is not on the list of the condemned!! Until it is, I can not allow you to pass through the gates of Hell. A powerful miko has the loyalty of my master and has asked him to spare your soul…your body as we speak is being restored to its former self. All that is required is your agreement to return to the surface world and continue to live on."

Inuyasha stared at the youkai suspiciously, "So what you're saying is that I won't be a wandering spirit? And that I'm not condemned to Hell?"

The youkai sighed, "I've been saying it for the past five minutes!! Now return, Inuyasha the demon slayer, you're holding up the line. I have millions more souls to pass through and you're not one of them!!"

"Alright! Alright!" Inuyasha snapped, standing up, "I'm going! Now, uh, how the heck do I get out of here…? Gak!!"

The youkai wrapped his humongous hand around Inuyasha's body, a devilish grin on his face, "Here, hanyou…allow me to escort you out…"

"No that really won't be nesscess---aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!"

Inuyasha found himself hurling through the air at near the speed of a bullet. The wind whipped around him as his body whirled higher and higher, the heat of Hell fading away until it felt like nothing more than a cool breeze. His body was suddenly overcome by the sensation of floating and he opened his eyes, glancing around. The bright moon shone overhead, the stars twinkling above.

He looked around, the forest quiet as it ever was, "Where am I?"

Looking down, Inuyasha spotted Kagome kneeling before him, her body covering something on the ground, he tried to move to see, but his body didn't seem to want to obey him.

"Kagome!!" he cried, "Are you alright?"

The girl stared at him, reaching out a hand, her eyes dry from crying, "No, please don't absorb his soul, Kikyo!! I'm begging you, let him rest in peace!"

Suddenly his world went a dead black, his body frozen in suspension. There was a wave of bright white light, and the sensation of his body shooting across the air returned, this time, he was going down again.

He could hear voices now, and he could move again.

"Thank you…Kikyo…"

Inuyasha's eyes snapped open, his lungs filling with a ragged gasp for air. His clawed hands grasped at the grass as an overwhelming sensation overcame his body, his entire form arched off of the ground.

"Inuyasha!!"

Arms were around him again, a wet face pressed against his cheek. "Inuyasha you're alive!! Oh thank God, I thought I lost you!!"

"Kagome…" Inuyasha gently tested his body. There was still some pain in his arm, but it was quickly fading. The rest of his body seemed to be functioning correctly, in fact, despite the bite mark; he never would have suspected anything had actually happened to him, "Oi, wench! What the hell happened??"

Kagome stared down at Inuyasha, her heart thudding in her throat, tears streaming down her cheeks. He was back alright…back to normal. She bent down, staring into his deep, golden eyes.

Inuyasha blinked licking his lips nervously "Kagome what the hell are you…"

Kagome crushed her lips to his, effectively cutting off his sentence. Inuyasha's lips quivered from the warm feel of Kagome's, his body shaking. What was she doing? Her hands ran down the front of his robe, hovering over his chest, gently massaging the area. It felt wonderful and it was having a very particular effect on his loins. He couldn't stop shaking.

Kagome backed away slightly, a tiny smile crossing her face. "Inuyasha…why are you shaking so much? Are you nervous?"

Inuyasha blinked rapidly, "B-Baka!! Of course not! I just want to know what the hell you think you're doing!"

Kagome removed her hands, a confused, hurt look crossing her face, "What do mean? Was I doing it wrong?"

"No! I mean, yes! I…" Inuyasha's eyes narrowed, batting Kagome's hands away from him and picking himself up. He stood over Kagome, his arms crossed as he stared down at the girl kneeling before him, "It doesn't matter whether or not you were doing it right, the fact is that I want to know why you were doing it. You're acting strange…"

"I'm acting strange!?" Kagome jumped to her feet, her face red with anger, "You're the one who's acting all weird!! You told me that you loved me and now you act like you don't want anything to do with me!"

Inuyasha glared, "Damn it!! What the hell are you talking about, Kagome!?"

Kagome turned away from him, tears beginning to well up in her eyes, "So you were just saying that, Inuyasha? Just a spur of the moment type thing?" Her shoulders heaved, "I can't believe I actually thought your words were sincere! I guess I should have known better…"

The words struck Inuyasha directly in his heart. The half demon took a step forward. He remembered the words he'd said before his death…and he still meant them…the only thing was…

"Where's Kikyo?" he whispered, glancing about.

"Kikyo?!?" Kagome spun around, her eyes blazing with fury, "What the hell does Kikyo have to do with anything?!?" Realization slowly dawned on her, a knowing look crossing her face, "Oh I get it! You weren't saying that you loved me…you were talking to Kikyo!! And I was stupid enough not to see it!!"

Inuyasha reached out, "Kagome…"

"How could you say something like that to me, Inuyasha!?" Kagome screamed, tears spilling from her eyes, "I guess it didn't occur to you that I might actually love you!?"

Inuyasha froze, his eyes wide with shock, "W-What…?"

Kagome looked down at the ground, tears hitting the grass beneath her feet. She folded her hands in front of her, unable to hide her embarrassment. She didn't mean to say that…not right now. It was unfair of her. Inuyasha had just been given another chance at life. What right did she have to ruin it for him, just because of her jealousy? He loved Kikyo…there was no way around that…yet, deep down in her heart, she was hoping that he might have reserved a place for her.

Inuyasha stared at the cowering woman in front of him, pain and anger mixed together within his chest. She looked so depressed standing in front of him…so absolutely submissive with her head bowed. For a moment, he felt a wave of power…dominance over this fragile creature before him. However, he couldn't deny what his heart screamed…it wasn't he who had dominated Kagome…it was Kagome who dominated him.

"Listen Kagome…"

Kagome turned away, her eyes downcast, a shadow hanging over her face, "I'm going back to Kaede's, Inuyasha. I'm sorry if I ever got in the way of you and Kikyo." She glanced at him over her shoulder, a look of pity and pain rippling over her face, "I hope that we can at least remain friends, Inuyasha…"

Inuyasha's face twisted in fury. That's it, damn it!!

Inuyasha jumped forward, landing gracefully in front of Kagome, his face frozen like a harsh statue. His hands lashed out, gripping Kagome's arms and throwing her to the ground, pinning her fragile figure beneath his hard, muscular one. His golden eyes flashed with suppressed anger. She was being so stubborn! Here he was trying to talk to her, yet she refused to listen to him…even refused to look at him!

"Look damn it," he snarled, "I want you to know something, Kagome…I don't love Kikyo! Not anymore!! I don't love any part of her and I want nothing to do with her!"

"Don't love any part of her!?" Kagome retorted, equally as angry, "I guess you've forgotten that I'm her reincarnation!! I am Kikyo!" she began to struggle, pushing helplessly against Inuyasha's stone arms.

"Let me go! Please don't touch me anymore! You lie to me too much, Inuyasha…I just…I just can't take it anymore!! You say you don't love Kikyo, but every time her name is mentioned, you forget about everything and everyone around you! Admit it!! You love her!!"

Her hand shot up, intent on connecting with the side of Inuyasha's face, but the hanyou caught her arm, inches away from his cheek. He stared down at her, his eyes filled with an untamed fierceness.

For a moment, Kagome feared for her life, believing that she'd finally pushed the dog demon to the limit and her life was now over. She tried to move away from him, struggling with a new urgency to escape Inuyasha's grasp.

Inuyasha reached down, his claws centimeters from her face. Kagome's eyes snapped shut, her body bracing itself for the onslaught of pain that was soon to come. She began to shake, fresh tears tracing the outline of her eye.

However, with her eyes closed, Kagome didn't see the pain that flashed over Inuyasha's face. She had winced when he'd moved to touch her. Winced. The emotional pain that filled him was almost unbearable, yet he resisted the urge to pull away and let her be. Instead, he slowly brought his lips down upon her quivering face, tongue rolling out to gently lap away the tears that ran down her cheek.

Instantly Kagome stopped shaking, her eyes flashing open as Inuyasha slowly kissed a trail down the side of her face, the feather light touches of his lips sending shivers rolling down her spine. The sensation was amazing.

Inuyasha kissed down the side of her cheek, planting a hot trail of sensuous kisses down the nape of her neck, his hand sliding behind it and gently lifting it, arching her head back to allow him access to her honey sweet skin. He moved towards the front, nipping and suckling at her soft skin as he went. His hands began to massage the side of her smooth legs as he kissed his way back up to her lips, hovering over them for a moment.

Kagome's breath was coming in short ragged gasps, her mouth slightly agape with pleasure. Inuyasha raised his head, looking into her light brown eyes, unable to look away. Kagome returned the stare with an earnest, her hand coming up to stroke the long locks of silver hair that sprouted from his head.

Inuyasha leaned into her touch, a tiny growl of pleasure escaping his lips. Silently, the hanyou rolled off of Kagome, propping up his head with a hand as he allowed the other to run up and down the front of her blouse, teasing the buttons. For a moment, he watched his hand work before he finally forced himself to look at the gasping girl below him.

"Kagome…I don't know how you could ever think that I didn't love you with all my heart. Not Kikyo's reincarnation…but Kagome. If you came to believe that I loved Kikyo more than I could ever love you, then I apologize…" he leaned down, gently nuzzling against Kagome's neck, "I want you to know Kagome that you are the only woman that I could ever think about loving…I will never let anyone replace you."
