After the Battle
Chapter 2
~*Shinidamachu?*~
“Wench, go back to sleep. I'll go tell everybody not to come and wake you up.. Especially that runt.” Inuyasha walked towards where the rest of the gang was with his keen sense of smell directing him. He didn't want to tell the others of what Kagome was going through. `What the hell am I going to tell Kagome, should I let her know before the new moon?'
Inuyasha was beside Miroku within a minute from leaving Kagome's side. Miroku didn't even notice him till he turned around to say something to the taijiya.
“Inuyasha, I didn't know you were here. Is Kagome awake yet?” Miroku asked the hanyou.
“Yea, she's awake for the moment. I told her to get more sleep, but I highly doubt it. So that means, runt, don't go running to her for the time being.” Inuyasha glared at the kitsune as Shippo was about to run after Kagome. “She doesn't need to be interrupted.” Inuyasha grabbed the kitsune's tail and dropped him on his head.
“Owww! Your mean Inuyasha.” Shippo started crying. He was still crying a few minutes later then abruptly stopped and sniffed around him.
“Do you smell that Inuyasha?” Shippo asked the hanyou.
“Shit. Miroku can you put up one of them shields around the hut for me? Thanks!” Inuyasha ran to where the smell was coming from. `Guess I should face Kikyo now. I hope Kagome understands.' Inuyasha sprinted over to where the smell of Kikyo's Shinidamachu was located.
“Kikyo, come out I know you're around here.” Inuyasha scanned the forest surrounding him. Looking up in the trees near him he found her sitting on a tree branch collecting the souls that her Shinidamachu brought to her.
“How are you, Inuyasha? Have you decided what you want to do now that Naraku is gone?” Kikyo addressed to him.
“I can't go to Hell with you. I need to protect Kagome. I promised her.” Inuyasha tried to negotiate with the revivified miko.
“But didn't you make a promise with me? Did you not promise me that you'd go to HELL with me? What is going on between you and that one that looks like me?” Kikyo questioned him.
“No, I told you that I would avenge your death, and I did it by killing Naraku. I fulfilled your wish of me to do that. I learned something from Kagome that I didn't learn from you. Kagome loves me for who I am, she doesn't want me to change into a human or youkai. You always wanted me to be human. So you could be free from the Shikon no tama. I'm sorry but I don't want to follow you into the depths of hell.” Inuyasha turned his back to her and walked to his destiny, and that included Kagome in it.
“Be happy Inuyasha. I'm glad you have found what you wanted from that girl. Be happy.” Kikyo walked in the opposite direction from Inuyasha not knowing where she was going but she had a thought of where that might be.
Inuyasha grinned at hearing that last sentence from Kikyo's breath. He turned around but did not see Kikyo and started walking towards what he hoped was his future of being with Kagome.
The sight of the hut came into his view and inside was the voices of his dear friends. `Yes, I do consider them my friends now. We've completed the jewel and now have become the closest group of friends.' Inuyasha walked through the door mat to see Kagome hunched over her legs and the salt of her tears hit his nose.
“So, how is she?” Kagome asked him.
Inuyasha grimaced knowing he was the cause of the tears that shone from her eyes. He never meant to hurt her in anyway.
“She's fine. I told her about what was to become of me if I followed her to hell and made our negotiations.” Inuyasha walked over to Kagome and knelt beside her.
“You know my decision, I made you a promise and I won't let anything happen to you.” Inuyasha spoke to her.
“I don't care about promises Inuyasha. I want to know how you feel. I want to know if you want me. Do you, or are you just fulfilling your promise to me?!” Kagome started to raise her voice.
“May we have some privacy here? Leave!” Inuyasha commanded the other people out of the hut. He never left Kagome's gaze afraid of her running off.
“Kagome, I love you. Don't you understand? I told Kikyo to go to hell by herself. I want to be with you forever. That is if you'll have me?” Inuyasha even questioned himself.
Kagome looked surprised, then happiness shone from her eyes, she leapt into Inuyasha's arms and hugged him, making Inuyasha fall backwards in the process. She hovered over Inuyasha's frame and leaned down to kiss him. A few voices were heard with laughing through the crevices around the door mat. Kagome and Inuyasha were forced apart by needing air. Sango was the first to enter with Miroku and Shippo right behind her.
“Congratulations, you two, I'm glad you're finally together.” Sango hugged her best friend. “I hope I get to be the maid of honor.”
“Huh?” was Inuyasha's answer. “What's a maid of honor?” He pulled himself off the floor and sat beside Kagome his arm snaking its way around her waist.
“It's a person who is very close with the bride of a marriage.” Kagome liked the feeling of his arm around her waist. She leaned into the warmth that was vibrating off him. She dozed off while Inuyasha and Miroku were talking. Inuyasha felt the difference of Kagome's breathing and looked down at his mate to be and glanced back up to Miroku and Sango.
“We'll be leaving now. Take care of her Inuyasha or you're gonna be hurting when she comes running to me.” Sango looked to the monk and motioned for him to stand and both of them walked out of the hut and went to Kaede.
Inuyasha put Kagome on the futon before lying down himself. He didn't need to go to sleep, but couldn't help nodding off with Kagome so close to him. Inuyasha snaked his arm around Kagome's waist and dozed off.
A shriek was heard through the village and that awoke the hanyou from his sleep. Inuyasha turned in his sleep, looking at Kagome; he slipped his hand away from Kagome's waist. And walked to the door mat and walked to where the screaming cam from. When he got there, it was being handled by Miroku and Sango. Inuyasha walked up to Miroku and withdrew Tetsusaiga and the blade turned red and slashed through the demon's skin. He landed on his feet and sheathed Tetsusaiga, while walking towards Sango and Miroku.
“So what happened here?” Inuyasha looked around the village to see a couple huts destroyed by the demon.
“Well, as you can see, it destroyed the houses of numerous people. I'm gonna help them to rebuild it. Maybe you'll want to help?” Miroku pointed out to the hanyou.
“Ummm… no thank you, I should be getting back to Kagome and making sure she's alright. Yea.” Inuyasha hurried over to the hut where Kagome was resting and watched over her until Kagome twisted in her sleep.
Inuyasha went over to her side and tried to calm her down but only made Kagome twist even more.
“Kagome, it's alright.” Inuyasha grabbed Kagome's sides and growled deep in his chest to soothe her. He felt Kagome loosen and wrapped his arms around her and picked her up and walked to Goshinboku and leapt up into his branch and fell asleep with Kagome in his arms.
