Disclaimer: don't own Inu Yasha *sniffles* But I do own an apartment, a car, a lap top, a room mate, some clothes, a chinchilla, a TV, a VCR, DVD player, some DVDs, some books, seven pairs of socks(none of which match or are with out holes), some underwear, three pairs of shoes, a guitar and a bass and an amp and a keyboard, a vacuume, a set of vampire fangs, kit of stage make up, and two mattresses that I've piled with seven pillows and I use that for a bed. I have no bed sheets, only two blankets and a comforter…oh yeah, I own this story and the characters you've never heard of…my life does have meaning. Bliss… ^_~

Ryung yawned as she woke up, her jaw going slack and her tongue curling slightly as she arched her back. She got to her paws and arched her back, feeling the muscles stretch and lossen. She shook her self and began to trot down the path, following the river. She had been out playing and exploring all day and it was now time to go home. She had transformed into her wolf form while she slept next to the river so that the general passerby would pay her no heed, just like her pappa had told her. He had been so amazed the first time she had shifted (that was what she and her pappa called it when she changed from youkai to wolf or vice versa). He had told her that being able to shift was a very rare and great gift. He had told her that he had only met one person who could shift. That was her mother.

Ryung sighed as she thought about her mother. She could barely remember her mother. She had died when Ryung was very little. The pack had been attacked by some traveling demon hunters. Ryung and her mother, as well as three other females and the other pups of the pack had stayed in the cave while the males fought. But some of the hunters snuck past the males and attacked the caves. Ryung's mother had thrown herself in front of the others, defending them, but in doing so had lost her life. She and the other females had killed four of the five demon hunters before the fifth had cut her down…just as Koga had returned to the cave, having smelled the intruders.

That was the most vivid memory Ryung had of her mother; the look of terror of her face as the blade struck her through her heart and killing her instantly. The image haunted Ryung's dreams still, though it happened four years ago when she was three. The mournful howl that escaped her pappa's throat was unlike anything she had ever heard before of since.

Other things that Ryung remembered about her mother was her warm, soothing scent, and the caress of her hands when she would rub Ryung's back or scratch her behind her doglike ears. Even though Ryung was the non full blood ookami youkai, none of the other pups would ever tease her. She had dominated them into submission long ago. Besides, she was proud to be half ookami half inu youkai.

As she was loping along the path that her father had marked for her she noticed an interesting scent. She paused to sniff at it…It was the scent of an inu! One close to her age. Maybe they'll want to play, Ryung wondered as her direction veered off after the direction of the new scent. I don't have to be home exactly right away, she reasoned, stretching the truth slightly. It was nearing evening and her father wanted her well with in smelling distance before sunset.

But she followed the scent anyways. She'd always wanted to meet an inu. Maybe then she'd remember more about her mother. It wasn't long before she came to a clearing. She peeked though the bushes, making sure she was down wind. In the clearing she could see two boys wrestling. One looked like he was twelve, but he was definitely not an inu. But the younger one…He had sliver hair and flashing amber eyes and ears just like's Ryung's.

Ryung quickly shifted, wanting to join the boys in their game. They looked they were good, strong playmates. As soon as she was in her natural form she stepped out into the clearing. As she did so the two boys stopped their wrestling to look at her in interest. She smiled warmly at them and trotted over to introduce her self.

"Hi!" she called out, waving, as she drew near.

"Hi," the two boys replied thickly in unison. They stared at her as she approached. Neither had seen a female like her before. She had a small, lithe form and vibrant jewel green eyes. Her hair was like the color of buckskin, but it shimmered like liquid gold in the afternoon light, making her black ears stand out in contrast. She was beautiful, even as a child.

"I'm Ryung," she told them as she came to stop before them. The older boy recovered first.

"I'm Shippo…and this is my brother Ko Inu," Shippo introduced himself and his brother. The girl cocked her head.

"You guys are brothers?"

"Adopted brothers," Ko Inutold her, speaking for the first time. Upon hearing his voice, Ryung's ears twitched and she purred. His voice had an enjoyable sound to it. The boys noticed this but said nothing.

"Can I play with you?" she inquired. The boys looked at each other. Again, Ko Inu spoke.

"We don't want to hurt you. This isn't a game for females." At the insolent tone in his voice Ryung growled. Hurt HER!? As if!!

"I wouldn't worry so much about hurting me as getting hurt yourselves," she countered. The boys had no choice but to except that kind of challenge. Ko Inu nodded.

"Right, then, little girl…prepare to be put in your proper place," he growled, changing his stance. Ryung's eyes flashed.

"I know where my proper place is," she shot back, her heart beat quickening in anticipation as she matched his stance. "It's glaring down at you while you bare your throat and offer up your soft little belly!" Ko Inu snorted.

"Try not to cry too hard when you lose," he growled. She grinned, her fangs peeking from the corners of her mouth.

"Do you always give yourself that pep talk before you fight?" Ko Inu had enough. He leapt for Ryung, aiming for her throat.
