Always Here But Never Seen

Chapter # 2
Is Sesshomaru Right Or Wrong?

“You know Mizu.” Kagome said, once she was sure that Inuyasha or Shippo couldn’t hear them.
“Yeah Kagome?” Mizu asked, glancing at her from the corner of her eye.
“Why don’t we pretend to be gay. Just to see how the guys take it?”
“Oh my god. That’s a great idea! Why didn’t I think of that?”
“Cuz you’re the goody two-shoe.” Kagome muttered, and looking over her shoulder to see Sango running after them. And she groaned when she knew Sango could hear her.

“What do you want?” Kagome hissed, walking faster. Sango pouted.
“I missed you Kagome. What happened to you?” Sango asked, hurt clearly imprinted in her voice.
“I changed.” Kagome muttered. Looking away. “People do that.”
“Well, I understand that. But, can you at least tell me what the hell is on your back, and face?” Kagome laughed. Something Sango had missed dearly the past 10 years.

“These are piercings.” Kagome said, pointing to her lips, ears, eyebrow, nose, and she stuck her tongue out to show Sango. “And these are tattoos.” she said, turning and lifting her shirt to show her the dragon, and the skull on her arm.
“You’re not gonna show her the other ones Kags?” Mizu asked.
“Other…oh! Yeah!” and she tugged her pants down just as Inuyasha, Miroku and Shippo came out of the forest. All of them stopped in their tracks.
“See. These are piercings and tattoos too. I’m going to assume you can read them, can’t you?” Kagome asked Sango, completely obvious to Miroku, Inuyasha and Shippo.
“Yeah. Strength and Friendship.” Sango whispered.
“Oh hey! Miroku!” Kagome called. “Come here and take a look at this!” Miroku didn’t hesitate much, and walked right over.
“Well….very nice Lady Kagome.”
“Don’t call me that.” Kagome hissed.
“What about your ankle Kags.” Mizu nudged her in the shoulder.
“I ain’t gonna show them my ankle! I told you I didn’t want the damn thing to begin with!” Kagome snapped. Mizu pouted.
“I feel so loved.” she said sarcastically and she crossed her arms. Kagome smiled, reached up and kissed her cheek.
“I love you.” Mizu smiled and kissed Kagome’s cheek.
“I love you too.”

“I think she really is gay.” Shippo whispered to Inuyasha. Inuyasha mentally flinched.

It took him ten years to realize that he loved Kagome. And then she comes back, only to be gay. Well wasn’t this perfect?

Just perfect.

“Shut up.” Inuyasha hissed back.

“Well. I have to be going now guys.” Kagome said. “I only brought Mizu here to train.”
“Hey!’ Mizu snapped. “We were barley at it for 10 minutes.”
“And look at what I did to you in 10 minutes!”
“That’s only cuz you’re 100 times better at fighting then me!”
“Not my fault you didn’t bother to listen to me when I wanted to teach you to fight!”
“I never thought I’d need it!”
“And whose idea was it to come back here?” Kagome yelled. “You’re the one who practically begged me to take you back here! If it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t be here!”
“I don’t care! Just because you have people issues or got your heart ripped up doesn’t mean you can treat everyone the way you do.” Mizu yelled and Kagome step back.
“Really now.” Kagome said, and evil grin on her face.
“Kagome I didn’t-”
“Don’t you dare tell me you didn’t mean it.” she hissed. “You always use that against me when ever you want something! And it always works!”
“That’s-”
“SHUT THE HELL UP!” Kagome screamed. Mizu stepped back this time.

Kagome pressed her fingers to her temples and closed her eyes. Taking deep breaths while she tried to compose herself.

When she finally did find her voice again she said
“I’m sorry Mizu. I shouldn’t be taking my problems out on you. Forgive me?”
“Always.” Mizu said, hugging Kagome again. “And I’m sorry too. I shouldn’t have used that against you. I know what he did to you.” and Kagome flinched. “No problem.”
“Forgive me?’ Mizu asked.
“Always.” And Kagome winked at Mizu as she closed her mouth over hers.

Mizu smiled, knowing what this was for and kissed her back. Causing the group who was watching them to gasp. Mizu wanted to laugh. And she knew Kagome did to.

“Come on, we better get our stuff. We forgot it.” Kagome said when they pulled away.
“Alright.” and they started out towards the woods.
“Actually. You stay here Mizu. I’ll get it.”
“You sure.” Kagome balled her fists at her sides and glared at Mizu. “Yeah you’re sure.” Mizu muttered.
“Sango. You wouldn’t mind taking Mizu to Kaede’s hut….or…yours I guess.” Kagome really didn’t know if Kaede was still around. It would be a miracle f she was.
“Kaede’s it id then.” Miroku said.
“She’s still around?”
“Surprisingly.” Inuyasha muttered. “That old hag doesn’t know when to die.” And everyone expected Inuyasha to get sat. But instead Kagome shrugged and walked away.
“You could be right.” was all she said.

“Okay, now I know she’s really changed” Miroku said. “Inuyasha should have gotten sat by now.”

And when Miroku turned to said hanyou, he was gone.

Kagome wasn’t really paying attention to where she was going, and didn’t know where she was until she saw the Sacred Tree again. She sighed as she watched it. And then she started to sing:

Don't tell me the reason that you're calling
Is to see if I'm all right since you've been gone 'Cause I know you and I know why we're talking You're wanting me to say I'm barely hanging on Well, maybe that was true for a night or two But now, I got better things to do

I could wash my car in the rain
Change my new guitar strings
Mow the yard just the same as I did yesterday I don't need to waste my time crying over you I got better things to do

Inuyasha watched her from behind as she sat down in the grass in front of the tree. And he listened to the words. Feeling like she was talking to him for some reason. And he didn’t know why.

Maybe when I don't have so much going. Or quite so many irons in the fire
I'll take the time to miss you like you're hoping. But now, I can't put forth the effort it requires. Well, I'd love to talk to you, but then, I'd miss Donahue. That's right, I got better things to do

I could wash my car in the rain
Change my new guitar strings
Mow the yard just the same as I did yesterday. I don't need to waste my time crying over you I got better things to do.

He loved the way her voice sounded when she sang. Absolutely loved it. But he could hear the hurt in her voice. And he got the idea that singing was the way she got it all out. So that people knew how she felt, but yet they wouldn’t know at the same time. God only knows how he got that idea.

Check the air in my tires
Straighten my stereo wires
Count the stars in the sky or just get on with my life. I don't need to waste my time crying over you
I got better things to do.
I got better things to do.

She didn’t turn when she stopped. She just stood and climbed onto the roots of the tree. Staring at the spot where he had once been pinned. Where all of this had started. And where it all had ended. She sighed again, and a new song popped into her head.

Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I’m not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I’m still waiting

I’m through with doubt
There’s nothing left for me to figure out
I’ve paid a price
And I’ll keep paying

Sitting down on the roots, she turned towards Inuyasha, eyes closed so she hadn’t noticed he was there yet. Yet being the key word.

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

I know you said
Can’t you just get over it
It turned my whole world around
And I kind of like it

He knew what she meant by that. He knew that she meant leaving had turned her world around. And he knew that because of that, she was like this now.

I made my bed and I sleep like a baby
With no regrets and I don’t mind sayin’
It’s a sad sad story when a mother will teach her Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger And how in the world can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they’d write me a letter
Sayin’ that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be over

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

She sighed as she opened her eyes, and saw him standing there. Looking at her the same way he had looked at Kikyo. And for the first time in 10 years, she wanted to cry. But having too much pride she didn’t. She just stood and grabbed her and Mizu’s backpack, and walked away. Not giving him a second glance.

“Kagome.” he whispered, following after her and walking beside her. Taking Mizu’s backpack and slinging it over his shoulder.
“I can carry that my self you know.” but she mad no attempt to grab it.
“I know. But are you going to tell me what’s wrong?”
“Why should I tell you if anything is wrong?” she glared at him.
“Would you stop looking at me like that?” he snapped. It was so hard for him to try and act like he cared, without letting her know how he felt. He knew she was gay now, so…what good would it be if he told he that he loved her anyhow?

“I’ll look at you any way I want to.” she snapped back. And he couldn’t help but like this new attitude of hers, made her a lot more fiery. And that was one of the reasons he loved her. He didn’t like women who would just say yes to anything someone asked.

“Come on. Will you at least tell me why you left?”“I left because I felt like it okay? We Had defeated Naraku, we had the jewel, and I was of no further use to you. After all.” she said. Not looking at him. “The only reason you kept me around was so I could find the jewel shads.”
That comment hurt the both of them. It hurt Kagome because she believe it was true, but she didn’t’ show her hurt. It was no good to be living on the past, and it would do them no good if she started feeling the way she did before she left.

Inuyasha on the other hands was hurt for a completely different reason. He was hurt because that’s what she thought of him. She thought he was so low as to only keep her here for the jewels. Not even he was that low. And he knew that wasn’t true. But how could he tell her that?

“That’s not true Kagome.” Inuyasha said, looking away. And Kagome stopped. “What?” she asked him, looking at him confused.
“That’s not the reason I kept you here.” Now what the hell was he supposed to tell her?

“Then what was?” and he said the first thing that came to mind.
“Shippo, Miroku, and Sango would have killed me if I forced you to go after we had the jewels. So…I never did.” and that resulted in a kick to the back.
“You ass.” Kagome snapped, grabbing Mizu’s back pack an walking away.

Inuyasha stayed there, on his knees for a while. No one had gotten him on his knees in one attack before. Not a girl, and especially not Kagome. It had looked like she didn’t put much effort into the kick either. And to tell you the truth, it hadn’t hurt that much either. So he doubted she did put much force into it.

But how had she gotten the kick on him in the first place? No one could land a hit on him after Naraku. Even if he wasn’t fighting his best because Kagome wasn’t there. Hell, he was barley fighting at all with out her and yet, still no one got a hit on him.

But Kagome came back, and now he’s on his knees because she kicked him. Because she had been able to land a hit. Because she had gotten past his radar. How the hell was this possible.

And he didn’t even notice Sesshomaru until he got hit in the back of the head.

Kagome walked back into the village fuming. She had known by the way he wasn’t looking at her that he was nervous. But she doubted he had been nervous because he wanted to tell her that he only kept her here to Miroku, Sango, and Shippo wouldn’t kill him. She really doubted that.

It looked like he had wanted to tell her something really important. And for some reason she thought he was going to tell her he loved her. But…why would she think that? It’s not like he loved her. He loved Kikyo.

Speaking of Kikyo. Why hadn’t he gone to hell with her? Why was he still here? Had he been waiting for her to come back? Or live long enough to see her in her time? And that led her to the conclusion that he would only do that if he loved her. Which she knew he didn’t. So. The only logically explanation was.

Kikyo had died.

Kikyo must have died before he could go to hell with her.

Kagome winched at that. She remembered she told him to go to hell. And he probably tried to do that with her out of the way. Because he felt like he had to protect her. S he stayed until she left. But why was he still here?

She didn’t realize she was in Kaede’s hut until she saw all the faces. Familiar ones, and ones she didn’t know. And the ones she didn’t know where kids. The girls looked kid of like Sango. While the boys looked like Miroku. And she instantly knew why that was.

“Nice kids.” she said to them before taking her seat by Mizu.
“Thanks.” Sango smiled.
“Who are you?” one of them asked. He looked like he might be the oldest.
“Kasai. Be nice.” Sango snapped.
“But mom! Who is this strange lady? And why does she look so funny?” Kasai asked.
“I’m me. Who are you?” Kagome snapped at him. “And where I come from, you’re the one who looks funny.” Kasai crossed his arms and pouted. Making Kagome laughed.
“I’m just messing with you kid.” she ruffled his hair and he smiled.
“This is your aunt Kagome.” Sango said. Picking the youngest up and putting her in her lap.
“Aunt Kagome?” Mizu asked. “You never told me she was your sister.”
“She’s not.” Kagome said all to quickly. “Well…not biologically.” Kagome said, trying to get Sango to not pout like that. “She just feels like a sister. You know what I mean.” Kagome said, leaning against the wall, her hands behind her head much like Inuyasha would.

“Why are you acting like Uncle Inuyasha?” Kasai asked.
“Uncle Inuyasha?” Kagome asked, giving Sango and Miroku weird looks as said hanyou walked in with a very gruff expression. “Hey Uncle Inuyasha.” Kagome said playfully. “How’s it going?” Inuyasha just glared at her and she laughed,
“How’s your back doing?” she asked him.
“Bitch.” he muttered, before sitting against the wall, in the same way she was.
“I see what he means.” Mizu muttered. “You do act like him.”
“I do not!” Kagome yelled, pushing herself off the wall.
“Yes you do!” Mizu yelled back. “You know I can tell what people are like when I first meat them. And boy are you too the same.”
“Keh.” Kagome muttered, linking her arms over her chest and leaning against the wall again.

Inuyasha gave her a weird look which she returned with a glare. And he sighed. Maybe Sesshomaru was wrong.

~*~*~*~*Flashback~*~*~*~*~*~*

“What the hell was that for?” Inuyasha moaned as he rubbed his abused head.

After Narku was defeated he and Sesshomaru had gotten on somewhat good terms. Which meant they stopped trying to kill each other.

“You didn’t even notice I was here brother.” Sesshomaru muttered with a shake of his head.
“So?”
“So you were too caught up in that women of yours.”
“She’s not my women!” now that just sounded weird. Usually it was always Inuyasha yelling that Kagome wasn’t Kouga’s women.
“Besides, she’s gay anyways.” he muttered. Slipping his hands into his sleeves.
“No she’s not.” Sesshomaru said. “Can’t you tell little brother. It’s an act. And she likes you more then you seem to think.”
“What? You’re joking.”
“A old blind man could tell you that brother.”
“She doesn’t I know she doesn’t. I’m just a lowly hanyou. Why would she love me?”
“She loved you.” Sesshomaru corrected. “Until you made her believe that you liked Kikyo more then her, so she left. But I can tell that those feelings are still there.”
“How would you know?”
“I don’t.”
“What?”
“A man can never understand how a women feels. But another women can. Rin knows.”
“Your charge? You think your charge knows what Kagome feels.”
“From what she’s lead me to believe.” Sesshomaru continued. “She knows what’s in Kagome’s heart. And apparently she doesn’t hate you as much as you seem to think.”
“Keh, what ever,”
“Think about it brother. She won’t wait forever.” and he vanished, like he was never there. “He does that too often for my liking.” Inuyasha muttered and he started walking back to the village.

~*~*~*~*~*End Flashback~*~*~*~*~*

Inwardly sighing again he watched Kagome from the corner of his eye. And he knew she couldn’t see him looking at her, but yet, she was staring at him. A strange look in her eyes. Almost the same look that Kikyo used to look at him with, when she was still alive and believe that she had loved him.

Did Kagome really love him?

Was Sesshomaru actually right?

Or was he just trying to get Inuyasha to make a fool out of himself?

Only time would tell. And hopefully for the young hanyou, it would be sooner then later.

Well. There’s chapter 2. Sorry if it’s kind of short. I didn’t think of anything better for this story. And this was kind of a filler of sorts. But Please review and Have A Nice Day!
