Always Here, But Never Seen.

Chapter # 8
Almost Said It. Almost.

He was unusually calm when his body woke up. Then he realized that he was actually asleep for the first time in . . . sense Kagome left 10 years ago. Why was he asleep? Hmmm . . . He’d figure that out later, once the women in his arms awoke. Wait . . . Women!? He hadn’t drank too much sake again had he?

Then it hit him. Kagome was back, or rather, he was back in her time with her and her slightly psychotic friends. Miroku, Sango, and Shippo had all gone through the well when Mikidori said that they would be needed to protect Kagome. Of course, he hadn’t even thought of objecting.

And when he finally realized that the scent coming off this women was extremely familiar, he noticed that it was Kagome. What was she doing in his arms? While he slept no less.

He was vaguely aware of the arm that was draped around his waist. And he noticed the legs wrapped around his. And he couldn’t help but wonder about what they just might have been doing before he fell asleep.

He almost snapped his eyes open wide when he realized that if they had of been doing . . . that and he’d fallen asleep in the middle of it, what was Kagome gonna think?

Then he noticed the feeling of the bandages around Kagome. And remembered just about everything. And he felt his face heat up as he just imagined Kagome and himself doing that.

God he was happy she wasn’t awake yet.

And yet, when she started to stir, he wasn’t surprised by his luck. Though her chuckle did surprise him a bit.

Why did her side hurt so much? And why did her hips feels heavy? Was that an arm around her? She had to fight the urge to ‘eep’ at that thought, she didn’t want to be going back to her old habits too soon now did she? Nope, she didn’t.

Shifting slightly she found that her legs were entwined with someone else’s. And she new it wasn’t David. And she only hope it wasn’t Sam. He’d never let her live it down.

And yet, even though she was sure it wasn’t Sam either, she still had the feeling that he still wasn’t going to let her live it down. God she hated it when he’d rub something in her face forever. He still wasn’t letting her live it down when she and Josh had fallen in the punch bowl at a party once. At least everyone had a laugh out of it. Well . . . Almost everyone. Josh just complained about how she ruined his shirt.

She chuckled to herself as she remembered that. And the look on Josh’s face.

Shifting again, she pulled back, and opened her eyes a little, and saw the sleeping - or not so sleeping - face of Inuyasha. He was the last person she’d expected to see. But, thank Kami it wasn’t Sam.

Then she saw his eyelid twitch. And knew he wasn’t awake. He was faking it.

Glaring at him she smirked evilly, and reached a hand up to the ears that she knew were on the top of his head. Gently taking one in her hand she rubbed it between her thumb and forefinger, happy with the content growl that came from him.

“Aren’t you supposed to be sleeping?” Kagome taunted, and Inuyasha figured this was just another one of her tests. She was always giving people one.

“Aren’t you?” he asked.
“How am I supposed to sleep while my legs are tangled with yours?”
“Same way you did last night. Close your eyes and sleep.” “Argh!” she muttered, pushing herself up into a sitting position, while he laid there, an arm now laying loosely in her lap, and him looking up at her.
“Come on, just go back to sleep.” Inuyasha whined, pulling her back down.
“Inuyashaaaa.” Kagome pouted. “I need to get up.” “You sound like a two year old.”
“I don’t care. I need to get up.”
“No.” he tightened his hold on her, and nuzzled into her neck.
“Come on, please let go? I really need to get up.”
“No.” “Don’t make me make you let go.” “How are you gonna do that?” he looked up and saw the mischievous glint in her eyes, and he was slightly uneasy.

Reaching up Kagome took his ears in her hands, and rubbed them between her thumb and index finger. Smirking at the purr like growl that escaped him. And the fact that his arms went lax.

“What now puppy?” he only purred. Kagome quickly, efficiently, and unnoticed untangled her and Inuyasha’s legs. Smirking that he had yet to notice her plan.

Shifting her legs she threw the blankets off her, just enough that Inuyasha wouldn’t notice. And quickly withdrawing her hands bolted towards the door.

Inuyasha’s eyes snapped open as he saw her bandaged back disappearing through the door. And he realized that he had been played, and she still got up!

“Kagome!” Inuyasha yelled, forgetting that there were other people in the house, and bolted after her. She was laughing when he saw her heading down the stairs.

“Gonna catch me puppy?” she taunted. He narrowed his eyes at her, and grinned.
“Absolutely.” he replied, dashing after her, jumping over the railing and in front of her.
“No fair!” she cried, turning around and heading to the kitchen, he again made it there before she did.
“Come on, play fair!” “Nope. If you want me to play fair you’ll have to wait until the new moon.”
“Damn.” she whispered, dunking under him when he reached for her. Sliding through his open legs she darted for the backdoor of the kitchen. Leaving Inuyasha there blinking.

Throwing the door open Kagome ran towards the forest behind the shrine. Hoping she’d be able to at least hide her scent before Inuyasha snapped out of it and came after her.

Of course she had no such luck.

But the half demon in front of her wasn’t who she expected.

“Sam!?” Kagome cried, skidding to a stop before she hit him. “What the hell? Out of my way!”
“Playing tag Kagome?” Sam taunted. “Or hide-in-seek?”
“Not funny! Come on! Move it or lose it!” “What am I gonna lose?” The glint in her eyes made him gulp.
“You wouldn’t . . .” he growled, narrowing his blue eyes dangerously.
“I would.”
“Kagome!” Inuyasha’s voice suddenly rang through the air. “Get back here!”
“So that’s who you’re running from . . .” Sam said smiling.
“Shut up!” she snapped, pushing past him she forced her legs to move faster then before and headed towards the pond she knew was in the forest.

Smiling to herself, Kagome stopped when she saw the pond. The morning light reflecting on the surface of the clear water was beautiful. And Kagome forgot why she had been running, until Inuyasha burst through the trees shortly after. Slightly out of breath.
“What . . . The hell do you . . . Think you’re doing?” he panted, walking up to her.
“You sound out of breath.” she replied smirking. “Shut up.”
“Did puppy get a work out?” she teased. He growled and surprisingly she jumped, falling forwards into the water.
“Kagome!” Inuyasha yelled, when she didn’t come up he dived in after her. He opened his eyes under the water, and saw her smiling at him a good 5 feet away from him. And he glared through the water.

He swam towards the surface, and after breaking it, wiping the water out of his eyes he saw her surfacing. Her hands smoothening her hair down her head, eyes closed and the water dripping down her face and neck. It took all of his self control to not to go over to her and take her in the water.

He blushed at that thought and cursed himself for being so embarrassed about it. Why should he be embarrassed to say that he love Kagome? Or that he wanted her . . . Really bad?

Damn him and his lack of experience in this department. And damn Kagome for laughing at him.

“If you’re that hot.” she taunted. “Go back under.”
“Nah. I’d rather stay up here.” “Oh really?” “Yeah really.”
“Why is that?”
“Cuz I feel like it.”
“Mhm.” Kagome said in a mocking tone.
“You think it’s cuz of something else?”
“I know it’s because of something else.”
“And what is that ‘something else’?”
“Because you want to be with me.” she said, smirking when he didn’t reply, only grew wide eyed. “I remember what you said, when we were watching all those movies, and getting drunk. Err . . . I think I was drunk at least. I don’t think demons can get drunk, can that?”
“Not normally. But . . . You remembered?”
“Yeah.”
“What do you remember exactly?”
“I remember you telling me that you didn’t go with Kikyo because you thought you’d get a second chance to be with me.” She smiled slightly. “Looks like you did after all.”
“I guess you don’t get what I meant when I said I wanted to be with you.” he whispered to himself, low enough that she wouldn’t have heard . . . Or so he thought.
“If you tell me I could understand.” Kagome said, swimming towards him. “How’d you hear that?” “Doesn’t matter. But help me understand Yash.” she was now treading in front of him, all playfulness off her face for now. “You know you can tell me anything right?”
“Yeah Kagome. I know.” Inuyasha said, smiling slightly.
‘Anything.’ It was worth a shot.
“Kagome?” Inuyasha whispered, looking away for a minute.
“Yes Inuyasha?” she asked, putting a hand on his shoulder and smiling slightly.
“I . . . uh . . . I got somethin I need to tell you.”
“Then tell me.” “I-”
“Kagome!” Inuyasha turned his head and Kagome looked over his shoulder to see Sam running towards them.
“Kagome! She’s gonna kill me!” Sam yelled, diving in beside them, and cowering behind Kagome.
“SAM!” someone screamed. And they all instantly recognized the voice as Mizu’s. “Get you’re sorry ass over here right now!” “What did you do Sam!?” Kagome yelled. “Mizu sounds pissed.”
“Please don’t draw her attention, she scares me.” Sam whimpered, burying his head in Kagome’s hair. “And she’s got a frying pan.” “A frying pan? What the hell? That’s so eighties.” Kagome muttered. “That’s what I said.”
“I’d go with a shotgun.”
“Oh you’re so much help.” Sam moaned, just as Mizu came out of the trees.
“Sam.” Mizu hissed, and Inuyasha cringed along with Sam. He’d heard Kagome and Sango use that voice before, and it promised nothing but pain.
“I didn’t mean to Mi! Please don’t kill me!” “Wimp.” Inuyasha whispered.
“Inuyasha.” Kagome hissed and Inuyasha resulted in cowering behind Sam.
“Now whose the wimp?” Sam whispered back. “Hey Mi?” “Yes Kagome?”
“What did Sam do?” “He locked me and Jake in a room, said we couldn’t come out until there were little baby Jake’s running around.” Mizu said, glaring at Sam while a blush crept on her face.
“Come on, it was a joke!” Sam said, ducking under the water when Kagome glared at him. He cam up behind Inuyasha.
“Now Kaggy’s after me. I’m not gonna last 5 minutes.”
“Why are you afraid of Kagome? She can’t do anything.” Inuyasha said, apparently a little too loudly.
“Inuyasha.” Kagome whispered and he saw the smile on her face.
“Eeh?” Inuyasha said, putting his hands out in defence. “I-I didn’t mean it Kagome! Honest! Come on! Please don’t sit me!”
“I wasn’t going to, but that’s actually a good idea.” Kagome said, her smile turning into a smirk.
“You just practically killed yourself man.” Sam whispered and Inuyasha whirled on him. “Yeah well, if she’s gonna sit me. You’re coming down too.” He just finished saying that when Kagome yelled
“SIT!” and they both went under the water for Sam to do a back-plant into the muddy bottom, with Inuyasha landing on top of him.

“That was hilarious Kagome.” Mizu said laughing. And Kagome walked out of the water slowly.
“You know Mizu?” Kagome whispered as they made their way to the house.
“Yeah Kagome?”
“I think he was going to tell me something really important, until Sam came running in.”

(A/N: Should I stop it here? *Gets evil glares from everyone* Alright, alright. Sheesh, calm down you freaks!!!)

“Argh, damn it.” Inuyasha muttered as he pulled himself out of the water.
“Why do I get the feeling you were about to tell her something important?” Sam asked as he shook himself off.
“That’s because I was.” Inuyasha snapped, shaking himself dry as well. Thank god for hanyou lungs, without them they’d both be dead.
“What were you gonna say?” “If you hadn’t ruined it I was gonna tell her I love her.”
“Oh . . . Sorry. Bad timing.” “Bad timing my ass. I think you planned that.” “So what? You think what you want to. I know I didn’t. I couldn’t plan Mizu chasing me with a frying pan.”
“I’d still go with Kagome on the shotgun.” “You’d go with Kagome anytime.” “Shut up.” Sam just grinned.
“I know how you feel man.” “How can you possibly?”
“I know what it’s like to love someone Yash.” “Oh really?”
“Yeah.” Sam sighed. “I’d known her all my life, and yet, I couldn’t work up enough guts to tell her how I felt. Until Kagome hooked us up for prom.”
“You mean Jade?”
“Who told you?”“I heard Kagome mention her when Mizu said she couldn’t plan any ‘get-together’ schemes for Mizu and Jake.” Sam smiled. “Yeah. Jade was perfect. I couldn’t find anyone I loved more, and yet . . . She still got hit by that damn car.” Sam whimpered a little. And Inuyasha knew he was replaying that in his head. “She was human you see, so . . . Naturally she couldn’t have survived it. And she didn’t. She died in the hospital a few hours later.” “Tough break.” Inuyasha said, not really sure what to say to him.
“Funny thing was, she didn’t die from her injuries.”
“She didn’t?”
“No. Her crazy ex-boyfriend came into her hospital room and pulled the plug. Cut off her oxygen. Said if he couldn’t have her, no one could.”
“God I wish I knew something say that might help somehow.”
“Nothing you could say would help. That was in the past, but all I want you to do.” Sam slung a friendly arm over Inuyasha’s shoulder. “Is make Kaggy happy. She’s like my sister. So I’m entitled to the brotherly warning.”
“Brotherly warning?” Inuyasha laughed a little.
“I know, sounds funny but yeah. And I’m sure Jake, Josh and Souta are going to give you the same warning. Maybe Mizu too.”
“Well almighty one, what is this warning?” “You hurt Kagome, and I’m gonna hurt you. Real bad. Your own mother won’t recognize you.”
“Wouldn’t matter.” Inuyasha laughed. “My mother’s dead.” “Really? Mine too.” Sam laughed with him as they walked back to the house. Hopefully the girls calmed down.
