She let out a deep sigh and looked up at Inuyasha. “It’s Lady Kagome…” He jumped down from the tree and immediately ran into the house and up to Kagome’s room.

Once Inuyasha reached her room, he threw open the door and stood frozen in shock at the sight before him. Sango sat on the left side and Shippo sat on the right side of the bed both crying and holding Kagome’s pale hands, while Miroku stood in the foot of the bed praying over her. Inuyasha not wanting to believe his eyes, took to his other sense, he sniffed the air, it smelled of sweat, tears and the poison in Kagome body. After a good sniff he turned to his ear for help deciphering the scene before him, but couldn’t hear anything but Sango and Shippo crying along with Miroku prayers.

Inuyasha gritted his teeth, swallowing the lump in his throat and calmly said “I need you all to be quiet.” Sango and Shippo silenced their tears and Miroku ended his prayer. “Thank you.” Inuyasha closed his eyes and listen intensively, but it was to no prevail. He growled and opened his eyes “All of you out.” He spat out trying to keep his cool.

“We have every right to be here.” Shippo yelled turning and face him with tears still streaming down his cheeks.

“It’s just for a moment.” He growled baring his teeth at Shippo who flinched and ran to the safety of Sango arms.

“Come…” She said standing, picking up Shippo and walking out of the room, Miroku following.

Once the doors were closed Inuyasha once more closed his eyes and listen intensively, he heard a faint heart beat and faint breathing. ‘…the rest is up to her body.’ Sesshomaru word rang in his head. Sighing Inuyasha opened his eyes and walked over to the left side of the bed, taking her hand in his he sat down beside her.

‘Kami, how could I let this happen?’

‘I should have been there to protect her and I wasn’t.’

He rubbed the back of her hand with his thumb, leaned down and kissed her sweat drenched forehead.

‘I so sorry Kagome…’

‘If I hadn’t gone with Kikyo none of this would of ever happened.’

‘How could I have been so fucking dumb.’

A soft knock threw him out of his thoughts.

“Enter.” He answered in a cold emotionless voice.

The door of the room opened and Sesshomaru stepped in. “Otouto?”

“Hai.”

“I take it you will not be leaving her side until she recovers…ne?” A nod was his only answer. “And if she doesn’t?”

“She will…” Inuyasha said looking over his shoulder.

“I’m not doubting that she won’t….” Sesshomaru began.

“Then what the fuck are you saying.” Inuyasha growled glaring at his brother.

“That she has a 50/50 chance.” Sesshomaru said with an ice cold expression.

Inuyasha gritted his teeth and stared at the floor. “What are you asking of me aniiki?”

“Send her home.” Sesshomaru replied walking over to the window. He looked down at the garden only to find Rin sparring with Jaken.

“What?!”

“If you truly care about her then you will send her home so that she is out of harms way.” Sesshomaru replied almost in a ice cold voice. Feeling Inuyasha eyes on his back he continued “I know your intent dear brother…the reason why you are so protective over the miko.” He added staring at Inuyasha. “And if you truly wish for that then you will send her home.”

After considering his brother’s words Inuyasha responded “What would you do?” Sesshomaru turned and met his brothers gaze. “You also have the same weakness as father.”

Sesshomaru knew he was referring to Rin “Take her to safety until it’s all over.” Sesshomaru returned his attention back to Rin and Jaken. Jaken lay on his back with the tip of Rin’s sword at his throat. “Rin…” He called capturing her attention.

“Hai.”

“It’s late.”

“Hai Sesshomaru-sama.” Rin responded sheathing her sword giving a respectful bow, walked into the house and to her room.

Sesshomaru once again turned and met his brother’s gaze. “I shall take my leave…I will send someone to attend to your every need.”

Inuyasha nodded as Sesshomaru walked to the door. “Oyasumi aniiki.”

“Oyasumi otouto.” And with that Sesshomaru left the room.

It had been three weeks since Kagome took a turn for the worse and true to his word Inuyasha had not left her side. Food was brought up, but he never touched it and he rarely slept. No male was aloud into the room or near it, not even Sesshomaru. The door of the room creaked open, Inuyasha sniffed the air and let out a low growl.

“It is only us Rin and Sango.” Rin announced as the two of them walked into the room.

Inuyasha's growling only became louder. The two looked behind them to see Miroku and Shippo walk in. “What are you two doing here?” Sango asked shocked.

“Shippo was worried.”

“Leave now.” Rin said in a terrified tone.

“We have every right to be here.” Shippo said jumping off Miroku’s shoulder and onto Kagome’s bed.

Inuyasha’s growl was so loud it vibrated the bed and the windows.

“Shippo you and Miroku must leave at once.” Rin said in a pleading voice.

“Shippo no.” Sango cried as she watch him get closer to Kagome.

Inuyasha was now snarling.

“Shippo I believe the ladies are right we should go.” Miroku said now noticing Inuyasha’s warnings.

“I just want to see her face.” Shippo said, just as he got close enough to see her face he felt his self getting scooped up. “Hey what’s going on.” He asked with a confused expression.

Inuyasha was swiping at Miroku who had Shippo in one arm and was blocking Inuyasha’s attacks with his staff in the other.

“Lord Sesshomaru.” Rin cried.

“Lord Sesshomaru” Rin’s terrified cries filled his ears and in a spilt second he was up the 10 flights of stairs and running down the hall to Inuyasha’s room. He caught the scents of Miroku and Shippo and already knew what was going on. Once he reached the room he saw Inuyasha swipe at Miroku slashing him across the chest, sending him off balance and to the ground. Shippo opened his eyes to find out what happened and caught sight of Inuyasha who was just about to strike him he let out a whimper and closed his eyes awaiting the blow, which never came. He then opened his eyes to find Sesshomaru pinning Inuyasha to the floor.

“All of you out now.” Sesshomaru commanded. Sango helped Miroku up and they all took off down the hall.

Inuyasha growled viscously at his brother, but he didn’t budge. Sesshomaru placed more of his weight on his brother and let his jaki reach out and calm his brother. Once he was sure Inuyasha was calm he let him up. “They are her friends otouto…they have every right to see her.” he said as Inuyasha stood up.

Inuyasha sighed and stared out the window.

“Why don’t you go eat and take a walk to clear your mind.” Sesshomaru said.

“I’m fine.”

“You just attacked your friends, I‘d hardly say that‘s okay.” Sesshomaru said in cold tone. “You need something to eat, a little rest and a shower wouldn’t hurt.” He continued. “Don’t worry I’ll watch over her…if any change I’ll let you know immediately.”

Inuyasha went to reject his offer but his stomach begged him to reconsider. “I’ll be back in a hour or two.” Inuyasha said with a slight bow and walked out the door. ‘I guess I should go apologize first.’ He thought walking towards Miroku’s room, where he found him being attendant to by Sango, neither seem to notice Inuyasha.

“He didn’t mean it.” Sango said wrapping his wounds. “If you would of left…or never came…none of this would of happened.”

“We were worried…” He began but knew that she was right he had been warned several times not only by Inuyasha but Sesshomaru to. Every male in the castle had been warned not to go anywhere near Kagome or her room for that matter. The only two females that were aloud in her room were Sango and Rin. “I guess I understand Inuyasha’s actions in a way.” Sango looked up at him with inquisitive eyes. “I would be just as over protective of you.” Miroku replied staring into her eyes. Sango turned beet red and looked away.

Inuyasha took that moment and cleared his throat. Miroku jumped when he saw Inuyasha, Sango stood bowed and walked out. Miroku found the ground highly interesting and Inuyasha looked around the room.

Finally not able to take the silence anymore Inuyasha spoke. “I just came by to see how you are?”

“I’m fine.”

“And to apologize…I didn’t…”

“It’s alright…I understand.” Miroku said looking over at him. “It’s Shippo who you need to go see…he terrified.”

Inuyasha’s heart sunk, even though he won’t admit it, he thought of Shippo as his son. “Do you know where he might be.”

Miroku shook his head “But if you’d like I could help you look for him.”

“Thanks but I‘ll just sniff him out.” Inuyasha said turning to leave. “Oi Miroku there is one thing I would like you to do.”

“What’s that?” He said grabbing his staff and walked over to Inuyasha.

“Go pray over Kagome.”

Miroku smiled gave a nod-ish bow and took off for Kagome’s room. Inuyasha sniffed the air picking up Shippo’s scent and took off in that direction.

He found him in the western garden. “Oi Shippo.” Inuyasha called in a soft tone, letting him know that he was there.

Shippo stiffened but relaxed at the sound of Inuyasha tone. “Hai.” He replied not turning to face him.

“I just came to say that I am sorry for my actions earlier.” Inuyasha said sitting next to him.

“Ano…it‘s okay.” Shippo answered “Can I ask you a question?” He asked finding the ground interesting all of a sudden.

Inuyasha nodded but realized the kitsune was not look and replied “Hai.”

“Do you like Kagome?”

Inuyasha stiffened at the question “Of course I like her she my friend.”

“I mean…like her like her.”

Inuyasha blushed, no he was finding the ground interesting. “In order for me to answer your question you’ve gotta promise not tell anyone about anything we talk about.” Inuyasha responded looking over at him.

“I promise.” Shippo said in a very truthful voice.

Inuyasha stared up a the blue sky for a moment then replied “I didn’t really understand my feeling for Kagome at first, I knew what I was feeling I just wasn’t sure if they were because she was Kikyo’s reincarnation or because I was attracted to her. I needed to know that first before I could admit them to myself and to her.”

“And so how do you feel?” Shippo asked.

“I love her and it’s not because she is Kikyo’s reincarnation. At first I thought that Kagome being a reincarnation was suppose to act and do everything like Kikyo, but I slowly found out I was wrong. They are two different people. I may have loved Kikyo, but my heart now belongs to Kagome.”

“Why haven’t you told her this.”

“One, I’m not good at sharing my feelings and two, I’m afraid of being rejected.”

“Inuyasha no baka.” Shippo said “Kagome cares for you…you’ve just been to blind to notice…you both have.”

Silence fell between the two. Inuyasha was the first to speak “What do you think of me Shippo? Would you approve of me and Kagome?” He asked curiously.

“If that means you two would fight less…I approve.”

“And what do you think of me?”

Shippo took a moment to think and then said “Even though you’re a little ruff around the edges…I think of you as my chi chi none the less.”

This put a small smile on Inuyasha’s face. “Hungry…musuko?” He asked standing.

Shippo smiled and nodded.

“Hop on.” Inuyasha instructed. “Will go eat and hang out for a while then go see your oka-san…sound good to you musuko?” Shippo nodded as they walked into the house.
