“Inuyasha please tell me why I can’t fight?” Kagome said gently placing a hand on his shoulder.

“Kagome…” He began before their eyes connected. The though of losing her made him angry. “I can’t fight when you’re near.”

“What?”

“When you’re near something always happens and my attention gets drawn away from the battle.”

“So I’m a distraction?”

“I not saying this to be mean I’m just telling you the truth.”

“Then tune me out, forget about me, and concentrate on the battle.”

“I can‘t just tune you out...” He began but she cut him off.

“Yes you can, you do it when Kikyo’s around.”

Inuyasha was shocked at her words “Kagome…”

She turned from him with tears in her eyes. “I understand Inuyasha…it’s all clear now…all I am is Kikyo’s reincarnation, that’s the only reason you come to my rescue…I’m also a jewel shard detector the only reason you keep me around…if creating a barrier is what you would like me to do, who am I to argue…” She said before pausing, “I’ll do what ever you ask as long as it keeps me by your side.”

Inuyasha was silent what could he say without sharing his feelings. He had made a promise to Kikyo yet he loved Kagome.

‘You’ve got to tell her.’

‘Like he’d be able to get the words out of his mouth.’

‘He could if he just let me take over.’

‘If he won’t let me what makes you think he’d let you?’

‘Because I’m trying to help not kill.’

‘Feh.’

‘You can make things right?’

His human half nodded ‘It’s me who makes things right when his big mouth screws up.’

‘Just my mouth.’

He nodded again ‘Close your eyes and relax.’

Inuyasha nodded and did so. “Kagome?” He called out opening his eyes, taking her lovingly by the shoulders and turning her around. “Your more than Kikyo reincarnation, and your not just a jewel shard detector.”

“So than what am I to you? What do I mean to you? Why do you keep me around?” She asked tears streaming down her cheeks.

“Your Kagome…your sweet caring, brave and understanding. I keep you around because I enjoy your company…and besides my mother you’re the first human who excepted me for what I was.”

“And what do I mean to you? If I mean anything at all.”

“You mean the world to me…” There was a long pause at the pair stared into each others eyes. His eyes held so much love as did hers. He gently wrapping her in his arms he slowly closed the gap in-between them. “Kagome?”

“Hai?”

“I need you to promise me that if I let you come with us you’ll stay with Miroku …but if I tell you to, you’ll go through the well.”

“Only if you promise to come with me.”

He shook his head slightly “I need to know your safe…I promise to come get you after the battle's over when everything’s safe...but I can only promise if you do.”

A new set of tears fell from her eyes “I promise.” She said sobbed. He wiped away the tears and stared into her eyes.

‘She’s all yours.’

‘Thanks.’

‘ No problem.’

Inuyasha slowly leaned down and captured her lips with his own in a light passionate kiss, just enough to let her know he cared, surprisingly she kissed back.

Shippo’s eyes went wide, he had just walked outside looking for Kagome and he get more than he asked for. “Oka-san?” He called. He didn’t want to interrupt, but he knew if he didn’t he would never get to spend time with Kagome.

The two relentlessly broke apart. “Hai Shippo-chan?” Kagome asked turning and facing him.

“Um…I didn’t mean to interrupt.” Shippo said in an apologetic voice.

Inuyasha went to responded but Kagome stopped him with a finger to his lips. “It’s alright…what’s up?”

“I was just wondering if you would tuck me in.” He asked staring at the ground.

“Of course I will.” Kagome replied. “Why don’t you go change and I’ll be right up.” She added with a pleasant smile. Shippo nodded happily and ran off. In the blink of an eye Kagome was facing Inuyasha again. She smiled and they both blushed.

A cough interrupted them “Otouto…we must talk.”

“’bout?” Inuyasha replied.

“Important matters.”

Inuyasha sighed and looked down at Kagome. “I’m going to tuck Shippo in.” She said going to leave but found it impossible, thanks to Inuyasha. “Inuyasha?” She called in a dangerous ‘sit’ tone. He immediately release her and she went into the house.

“What is it Sesshy?”

Sesshomaru let out a light growl “I don’t think your decision was wise.” Inuyasha raised an eyebrow awaiting clarification. “You and the miko.”

“It was just a kiss.”

“To you it was just a kiss…but to the miko it was a sign of affection.”

“And what if it was a sign of affection?”

“Then you and her will not last in this battle.” Sesshomaru said sending a light glare his way. “Good night Otouto.” And with that he left Inuyasha there to think.
