Chapter 1
Amidst the Moonlight
Kagome walked slowly in the northern gardens of her castle with a sad smile gracing her lips. Her long raven her and the bottom of her loose white kimono fluttered in the wind as she ran her hand across the softness of a white rose petal. Sadness lay in her gray blue eyes as well as she plucked the flower from its stem and brought it up to her nose and gently inhaled. She sighed and placed the rose into her hair and started making her way back towards the castle. Since she was now 18 years of age, her parents told her she was now betrothed and her husband was attending a ball tonight in their honor. Kagome was not at all happy because she believed in meeting someone of your choice and falling in love with them not being forced to marry someone you didn’t even know. But if it kept her families honor she was willing to do it. Soon she arrived to her chambers and went inside closing the door. She glanced around her room before walking towards the balcony and taking a seat on the bench seated outside.
She closed her eyes and allowed the wind to flutter through her and wished that she could be the wind. Free to blow wherever she pleased and not have to worry about being a princess. Kagome slowly opened her eyes as she heard footsteps approaching her and looked over shoulder to see her best friend Sango walking towards her carrying a silver brush. “I thought you would like some company,” Sango replied as she walked on to the balcony and closed the door. Kagome smiled sadly and turned to look out over the horizon again, watching the sun set behind the mountains and many trees of the forest. “I really need company as of now for I am really troubled.” Sango smiled sadly and sat down next her friend. “Do you want me to brush your hair? That always seems to make you feel better when your upset.” Kagome looked over at her nodded. Sango then grabbed some of her hair and gently ran the brush along it. Her friends her was a lot longer than hers going past her waist and stopping at mid thigh. Sango’s only stopped at the middle of her back.
As she brushed Kagome’s hair, Sango looked her friend over. She was wearing a beautiful white kimono that clung all her nice curves, it flowed all the way down to floor and had a small trail behind it. It was designed with ivory beads made into small flowers on the front and on her trail in the back. Sango had to admit that her friend was very beautiful and she envied her at times, but even beauty isn’t everything. Kagome was very innocent and didn’t take kindly when men tried to abuse her beauty by using it in the wrong ways. But even though Kagome was beautiful her sister Kikyou had a more beauty to her. She and Kagome had the same length of hair, but Kikyou was more curvious than Kagome because unlike Kagome, Kikyou used her beauty to get what she wanted. She would sneak out of the in the late of night and wonder into the castle to lay with countless men.
Kagome believed that there should be love before anything in that matter. “What is bothering you Kagome? You should be thrilled that you’ve found a husband.” Kagome sighed and leaned into the brush as Sango moved it through her hair. “That’s just it Sango. How can I be thrilled when I have a husband pushed upon me without there being any love? I’m not Kikyou you know.” Sango chuckled. “Yes we all know that. But just wait and see. He might just be the prince charming you’ve been waiting for.” Kagome looked away from her friend and looked into the sky where stars were beginning to appear. ‘Maybe she’s right. But then again...what if she’s wrong?’ Sango could tell her friend was deep in thought by the frown starting to appear on her brow, so Sango placed down the brush and turned Kagome towards her. “I don’t know if this will make you feel any better, but your father says that I am allowed to accompany to Western Lands where you are to move,” Sango said hopefully. Kagome’s eyes immediately lit up and she embraced her friend. “Oh Sango! That’s wonderful. Now I don’t have to worry about being lonely. Come, we must go now to the ball. I must meet this mystery man of mine,” she said getting up from the bench and opening the balcony doors.
“I have yet to change and I refuse to wear this to the ball,” Sango interjected. Kagome looked over her shoulder at friend and took in her attire. She was wearing a short purple kimono that most definitely wouldn’t be fit to wear to the ball. “Well I have just the thing,” Kagome said walking over to wardrobe and opening it. She pulled out a long kimono similar to hers, but it was violet and had dragon design on the back instead of flowers. “Oh Kagome its beautiful!!” Kagome smiled and handed it to her friend. “Now go get dress and leave your hair down as well.” Sango nodded and walked behind Kagome’s dressing stand to dress.
Kagome sat down and waited for her friend patiently on her bed and let her thoughts wonder again. Sango was of royal blood too, but her mother and father had been rulers of a village just north of here and were ruled by demon slayers. But after a massacre when Sango was just a child, her parents had take her in and raised her as their own making her a countess. Kagome never thought herself better than her either because she was of higher rank than Sango, because the girl was like a sister to her and been more of a sister to her than Kikyou had ever been. And she was very grateful that her parents were allowing Sango to accompany and live with her and her husband...her husband.
Even they hadn’t met, she and Sango had gone about and did some research on him. It was said that Lord Inuyasha was a vicious hanyou, half inu-youkai and human, and that he was unmerciful. It was also said that he was the most handsome man in all the lands. He was not yet the ruler of the Western lands because his brother, Lord Sesshomaru, was eldest and had been next in line when their father was to pass. It was said that Lord Sesshomaru was even worse than Lord Inuyasha and why her parents would betrothed her to such a fiend was beyond her. She was snapped from her thoughts as Sango walked from behind the stand wearing the violet kimono and did a twirl for Kagome. “How does it look?” she asked. Kagome smiled and stood. “Beautiful. We’re going to be the most beautiful women at the party.” Sango winked. “Your damn right we are.” Kagome rolled her eyes and linked arms with her friend as they made their way out of her chambers and into the hall.

As they came to stand at the large cherry wood doors that led to the ballroom Kagome looked over to Sango. Sango squeezed her hand in support and then the doors were opened by the two guards standing at their post signaling it was time for the two girls to enter.
“Now presenting Princess Kagome and Lady Sango.”
Kagome looked down into the crowded ballroom at all her on lookers before she and Sango lifted their chins slightly and descended the steps. As the stepped off the last step everyone began addressing them and commenting their beauty and they girls just proceeded in giving them a nod and warm smiles. Kagome detached her arm from Sango’s and went greet her parents. “Hello darling, you look beautiful,” her mother complimented and kissed her cheek. “Thank you mother. You too look beautiful.” Kagome’s mother nodded her thanks and moved aside so that her father could embrace her. “You’re fashionably late sweetheart,” he whispered so that only she could hear. “I know father, but I needed to go in the gardens and collect my thoughts.” Lord Higurashi pulled away from her and nodded in understanding. “That’s fine daughter. I’m sure this all has put a lot of pressure on you, but I think its time that you meet your betrothed.” Kagome nodded and placed her hand softly on to her fathers arms as she was led towards a side of the ballroom. As they approached a small group where two men with whitish looking hair stood with their backs to them, Kagome started to feel the nervous butterflies enter her stomach. ‘Okay. Just breathe Kagome he can’t be all that bad.’
As they stopped behind them, Lord Higurashi cleared his throat to announce their presents. “Lord Sesshomaru. Lord Inuyasha.” Kagome gasped as the two men turned to her. They were....beautiful. There hair wasn’t white but a delicate silver, they both had amber colored eyes and tall well built frames. Lord Sesshomaru, she guessed, was the one with the blue present moon mark in the middle of his forehead in between his long bangs and he had purple marks on either cheek. Then she turned her gaze to who she guessed was Lord Inuyasha and took in his appearance. He had long silver hair, but it wasn’t as long as Sesshomaru’s which went down to his calves, but it was longer than hers stopping behind his knees. Atop his head were the most adorable ears she had ever seen and he face and lips were flawless as well. Snapping back from her thoughts Kagome bowed to each of them. “I am pleased to meet you both,” she replied.
“What a well mannered girl. I am Lord Sesshomaru and this is your betrothed Lord Inuyasha,” Kagome had been right about which name was which. She looked to Inuyasha who just stared at her with a blank expression and she hurriedly looked back to Sesshomaru. That’s when she noticed a girl around her age standing next to Lord Sesshomaru. “And who might this be?” Lord Sesshomaru looked down at his mate and smiled as she glared at him for forgetting to introduce her. “Sorry. This is Lady Rin, my mate.” “It’s nice to meet you Lady Rin,” Kagome greeted and stretched out her hand. Rin’s frown immediately turned into a genuine smile as she gently clasped Kagome’s hand. “The pleasure is all mine Princess Kagome.” Kagome nodded then released her hand and looked to her father. “Why don’t you and Lady Rin go mingle with the other women why Lord Inuyasha and I discuss the matter at hand.” Kagome nodded and gracefully bowed to them, as did Lady Rin as they took their leave.
Kagome found Sango standing with her mother chatting as they approached. “Hello darling. Who might this be?” her mother asked. Kagome smiled at her mother. “This Sesshomaru’s mate Lady Rin.” “Hello Rin,” her mother greeted. Rin’s eyes widened. “Pardon me my Lady, but I think that we should be addressed by our royal status.” Lady Higurashi waved her hand dismissively. “Oh poppy cock. My mother always used to say when a woman is around other women you longer have to use you title. And since its just us girls I see no problem in doing so.” Kagome and the other ladies chuckled. “Alright then...” “Karron is my first name.” “Alright then Karren.” They all chuckled and engaged in conversation. “So Kagome did you meet you prince charming?” Mrs. Karren asked. Kagome nodded. “Yes mother, but he was rather strange. He just kept staring at me with this blank expression, it really gave me the creeps.” Rin spoke, “Oh don’t mind Lord Inuyasha, but I must warn you that he has quite a temper and its best that you know your place when you’re around he and Lord Sesshomaru.” “Oh dear. My Kagome has quite a temper too. This might turn out to be interesting,” Mrs. Karren chuckled.
Kagome looked at Sango and Sango shrugged. This wasn’t good, not good at all.
That’s the end of this chapter. Next when should be up soon.
