Chapter 2

Kagome and the other ladies were interrupted as they were approached by the men. “We’ve come to ask your high nesses if you would like to join us for a dance,” Lord Higurashi chuckled. Lady Higurashi held out her hand towards her husband and smiled. “We would most certainly love to, my lord.” Lord Higurashi smiled at his wife then proceeded to guide her towards the dance floor. Lord Sesshomaru gently grabbed Rin’s hand and kissed the back of it. “My Lady?” Rin chuckled. “You are such a flatterer my lord,” she giggled and allowed him to guide her onto the dance floor as well. All that were left now were Sango, Kagome, Inuyasha, and a man that Kagome hadn’t noticed before. “And who might your friend be Lord Inuyasha?” Kagome asked.

The man stepped forward and grabbed Kagome’s hand, laying a soft kiss on the back of it. “My name is Miroku and what a fine beauty you are. You must be Princess Kagome.” Kagome blushed and nodded. “Yes, I am and this is my friend and right hand lady Countess Sango.” Miroku turned his eyes towards Sango and let his eyes drift over her curves and up to the beauty of her face. “You are quite a beauty as well countess. It seems this place is full of beautiful young women.” Sango arched and eyebrow with a small tint of crimson on her chheks and looked at Kagome. Kagome just smiled and gave her a little push towards Miroku. “Have fun,” she called as Miroku led Sango on to the dance floor. This now left Kagome and Inuyasha. Kagome looked up to Inuyasha and frowned at the scowl on his face.

“Did I do something wrong my lord?” “No. And stop that ‘my lord’ shit,” he growled. Kagome was taken aback by his outburst and her frown deepened. “You have no right to speak to my like that! You know what? Are you gonna ask me to dance or not?” she asked becoming slightly irritated with him.

“No. I think you and I need to have a talk in the garden.” Without waiting for her consent, Inuyasha grabbed her upper arm and led her out side and into the south garden, that had lots of various flowers, and stopped near a fountain that had a statue of a woman tilting a pot over with the water flowing endlessly from it.

“Why did you bring me here?” Kagome demanded. Inuyasha roughly grabbed her chin and glared at her with his cold amber eyes. “Watch your tongue girl or the day we say I do I will make your life a living hell. Do you understand me?” Kagome didn’t answer and just stared at him angrily. ‘Who does he think he is?’ “I said do you understand me?” he growled. Kagome turned away from him and looked at the marble ground beneath her feet.

“Yes my lord.”

“Good. Now I’m going to tell you what your duties are to be as my mate. You will please me whenever I ask you to, bare me a heir, and speak only when spoken to. If any of my rules are broken you will be severely punished.” Kagome looked up at him again to argue, but the fire in his eyes made her remain silent. ‘Oh Kami. What have my parents done?”

As she tried to register everything that he had just said, Inuyasha took the time to look her over. She was indeed very beautiful. But there was something very familiar of her. Then it came to him. “Are you the sister of Kikyou?” he asked. Kagome snapped her head up to him and frowned. “Yes. Why?” Inuyasha remained silent, but Kagome could see the fire in his eyes intensify. ‘What does Kikyou have to do with anything?’ Inuyasha smirked inside. ‘This is too perfect.’

Later that night after the ball, Kagome sat in her room in front of her vanity with Sango brushing her hair. “You’re awfully quiet Kagome. What’s wrong?” she asked looking at her friend through the mirror. Kagome sighed and closed her eyes. Sango gasped as a small tear rolled from Kagome’s eyes, as she opened them, and landed on the vanity. “Oh Sango. What have my parents done? They have no idea their sending me into the arms of a monster! And there’s absolutely nothing I can do about it. If only you could’ve heard the things he said to me; I’m scared Sango.” Sango didn’t know what to say as she watched her friends shoulders began to tremble as she sobbed. She then smiled softly and embraced her friend from behind.

“Kagome. You have nothing to worry about. I think he was just acting tough just to scare you. He might be gentle and kind on the inside.” “I don’t know this time Sango. He asked me about Kikyou and the next thing I know he was glaring at me with such fire in his eyes. What could Kikyou have done to him to make him hate me and her so much?” Sango shrugged. “I don’t know, but I hope its nothing to serious. He is half demon and demon’s can become very violent if they’re disobeyed or threatened in anyway. Maybe Kikyou did one of the two. I just pray he is not using you to seek his revenge on.” Kagome looked away from her friend and stared at her reflection in the mirror. Her skin was deathly pale; she needed some fresh air.

“Sango. Will you come with me out into the northern gardens. I really want to get some fresh air.” Sango nodded then went to Kagome’s wardrobe the retrieve a robe for each of them to wear over their night dresses; Kagome’s being an ivory color and Sango’s black, both mad of loose fitting and long silk and lace. They then quietly stepped out into the hallway and made their way quietly out the side doors that led to the garden and walked along the stone path. In her mind she wondered where their guests were at the moment, and let her thoughts wonder to the hanyou and what might be in store for her. “Kagome,” Sango whispered. “Kagome, look.” Kagome turned her attention to where Sango was in the grass behind some high bushes peaking through them. Kagome lifted her dress up so that it wouldn’t get grass stains and crouched down next Sango, peaking through the leaves as well.

Standing before them were Inuyasha, Sesshomaru, and Miroku talking. The brothers looked breathtaking as their hair blew around them from the cool breeze. Miroku had his hair cut short and tied in a low ponytail so it didn’t blow as much as the other men.

“What do you think their talking about?” Sango asked looking over at Kagome. Kagome shrugged before turning her attention back to the men. “What are you two doing out here?” Kagome and Sango looked over their shoulders as Kikyou stood before them wearing a red night gown similar to Kagome’s. “Shh!! Kikyou!!” the said in unison and grabbed her bringing her onto the ground with them. “What is the meaning of th—,” Kagome covered her sisters mouth and pointed towards the open bushes. Kikyou removed her sisters hands and peered through. “Oh no,” she cried and her face became deathly pale. “What is it?” Kagome asked arching an eyebrow. Kikyou looked to her sister and bowed her head in shame. “Kagome. Please do not be angry with me, but Inuyasha and I have a long past together.” “A past? What kind of past?” Kagome asked with an arched eyebrow.

“Inuyasha and I once had sexual relations together in the past.” “You WHAT?!!” Sango yelled. Kikyou and Kagome shushed her and looked to see if the men had heard them. They didn’t.

Kagome looked back to her sister in disbelief and frowned. “Kikyou, how could you? But that still doesn’t answer my question as to why he is so angry with you and wishes to take it out on me.” “He said that?” Kikyou asked. “He didn’t say exactly, but when he found out I was your sister he had this evil glint appear in his eyes. What is this all about Kikyou?” Kikyou sighed. “I didn’t mean for it to happen. I really didn’t, but as Inuyasha and I continued to have sexual relations I became with child. I didn’t know at the time he was your betrothed, but when I found out I ran away and never returned to him, and then I aborted my pregnancy. Now I fear that he thinks you’re the reason for my leaving and he still doesn’t know that I killed his child.” “WHAT?!! I had nothing to do with it!!” Kagome exclaimed.

“Who’s there?! Show yourself!!”

Sango sighed and shook her head at them before standing up.

Inuyasha and the others stared at her. “What are you doing out this late girl?” Sesshomaru growled. “I was out for a walk my lord. That is all.” Inuyasha frowned and stuck his nose in the air and began...sniffing? He growled. “You’re not alone. Stand up wenches!” Kikyou gulped as she and Kagome stood as well.

Kagome pushed her hair out of her face and looked at them as the cool wind started blowing through there hair as well now that they were all standing. The men sat there staring at them for what was feeling like an eternity. ‘They’re beautiful, like Goddesses, but my Rin is missing from this picture’ Sesshomaru thought. ‘Sango is so beautiful. She has such a fire to her,’Miroku thought with a smirk. Inuyasha wasn’t having any thoughts as he stared at Kikyou and Kagome hatefully. “Kikyou, long time no see.” Kikyou frowned. “Not long enough.” Kagome looked back and forth between the two, but remained silent.

“Why’d you leave Kikyou? And what the hell happened to my pup?” He said advancing on her menacingly.

Kikyou took a step back, and for the first time in her life, Kagome saw fear in her sisters eyes. She watched her sister back away as Inuyasha quickly advanced on her, but before Kikyou could even turn and attempt to run, Inuyasha had his hand wrapped around her throat. “Where is my pup bitch?!!” he growled. Kikyou’s eyes widened, but before she could speak Kagome took a step forward. “I killed it.”
