[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Inuyasha awakens in the middle of the night as he hears a scraping sound coming from outside the dark room. He nimbly gets up and makes his way around the sleeping figures of his friends. He stops for a brief second to gaze at the face of Kagome who was fast asleep. The moon light gave her face the appearance of an angel.
"Kagome.... I will defeat Naraku. I couldn't bear it if anything were to happen to. Even though I could never tell you this, but that's the reason that I'm fighting Naraku. It's not because of Kikyo anymore. It's because I don't want Naraku to ever harm you." Inuyasha said as he looked at her beautiful face. He then turned to exit the underground room into the fresh night air.
"Inuyasha..."Kagome said as she opened up her eyes as a single tear rolled down her cheek.
Inuyasha raced towards where the sound was coming. When he reached his destination he found Azrael burying the bodies of the village people.
"Hey, have you been doing this all night?" Inuyasha asked noticing that evidently he had buried all the villagers.
"Yes, it's the least I could do to pay my respects." Azrael said with a voice full of sadness.
"You know those two?" Inuyasha asked pointing towards two graves with flowers on top of them, also a rock placed on each one as a makeshift tombstone.
"Uh...yes, they were...dear friends of mine."
"Sorry to hear that. Look, if you want to come that's fine with me."
"Wait, so your inviting me. What about you keeping your eye on me and all that stuff?"
"Ah, well I figure you can't be that bad. Especially since you buried all these people."
"These people were my friends. I failed to protect them...I should've been here sooner!" Azrael yelled in rage. "I swear I will destroy Naraku even if it's the last thing I do!"
"It's going to be tough now though. I've completely lost scent of him." Inuyasha said thru clenched teeth.
"Inuyasha can I ask you something?"
"What is it now?"
"Have you ever loved anyone with all your heart?"
"W-what are you asking me for?"
"Because, I want to know if it's possible for demon's to love."
"Well...one time yes."
"With another demon."
"No...it was 50 years ago. I fell in love with a shrine priestess. Naraku used us and got us to fight eachother. She died hating me for something I didn't do, and she pinned my to a tree for 50 years."
"So that's why your searching for Naraku is it. To revenge your fallen lover?"
"Well yeah I guess. When you put it like that it seems kind of silly but.."
"Your lying you know that."
"W-what do you mean."
"You've felt love more than once. What about that girl...Kagome. I noticed how you worried about her during the fight. The way when she was in danger you fought more ferociously. You love her, and she loves you. It's just your to stubborn of a demon to admit it."
"Hey now wait just a minute. Where do you come off telling me what I feel."
"You've yet to deny it haven't you?"
"Yeah but it's just that."
"Shh, the girls awake." Azrael said pointing towards the house Inuyasha came out of.
"I'll let you in on a little secret about females. Be honest with her. Quit playing the part of the detached demon. She loves you, and evidently she's willing to wait for you, but she won't wait forever." Azrael gets up pats Inuyasha on the back and heads past Kagome.
"I think he wants to talk to you." Azrael said as he left a speechless Kagome starring at Inuyasha.
"K-kagome...I-I...what are you doing up?"
"Inuyasha..."
"Kagome I..." Inuyasha stammered.
"Yes Inuyasha." Kagome said bravely. She wanted so much to tell him that she had heard what he said, but she knew he still loved Kikyo. And that there could never be a place for her in his heart.
"It's a beautiful moon out tonight." Inuyasha said quickly trying to hide the fact that he was blushing.
"Yes it is." Kagome said, he head held down so Inuyasha wouldn't be able to see the disappointed look in her face. "Did Azrael bury all these people."
"Yes, he did it while we were sleeping." Inuyasha's sensitive ears picked up the sound of crying. At first he thought it was Kagome and quickly turned around to make sure she was okay. He noticed that she was looking at the ground so he couldn't see her face, but he knew it wasn't her crying. But if not her who?
"Kagome." a small voice said.
"Oh yes Shippo?" Kagome said as she turned around to see the small fox demon starring at her sleepily.
" I woke up and you weren't there." Shippo answered.
"Oh sorry Shippo, *yawn*, I'm sleepy too let's head back to bed okay." Kagome said brightly as she took him by the hand and led him to back to the underground room.
"Inuyasha...a-are you coming." Kagome asked.
"Nah, I'm going to stay up a little longer. You guys head on to bed." Inuyasha said as he turned his back to Kagome. He knew that she was disappointed by his reaction, but he still couldn't bring himself to voice how he really felt about her. As soon as she and Shippo were out of sight Inuyasha sprinted off deep into the woods to clear his head. He stopped by a lake and sat on a rock near it's bank thinking about what he should do.
"I noticed you neglected to tell a certain young lady something she's been desperatly waiting to hear Inuyasha. You really are a dumb mutt!" Azrael said as he descended from a tree and landed next to Inuyasha.
"AH shut up! What are you trying to do pick a fight with me." Inuyasha said grumpily.
"No I'm just simply stating a fact. What's wrong with a human and a demon in love. That's why your hear is it not...half-demon Inuyasha." Azrael smirked as he hit a nerve.
"Why you...how the hell did you know!"
"Simple it's my job to know these things. Not to mention you've made quite a reputation for yourself with all the good deeds you've done. You deserve to be happy Inuyasha, but most importantly that young girl deserves to be happy. You've both been through hell and back together, isn't it time you quit bearing the burden of what happened 50 years ago by yourself. When are you going to realize you have friends around you that really care about you?"
"Don't you think I know that already!" Inuyasha yelled.
"Heh, then maybe you could learn to show it once in a while." Azrael said as he left Inuyasha to think in silence.
"Kagome.... I will defeat Naraku. I couldn't bear it if anything were to happen to. Even though I could never tell you this, but that's the reason that I'm fighting Naraku.
