Everyone was shocked at what Azrael had just told him. Azrael signaled them to be quiet as they crept into one of the cave's interior room. It was about thirty feet high and atleast a hundred feet wide. In there was were they saw Rin. She was standing the middle of the crest of the bat demon lord with several bat demon's surrounding her.
"Rin." Sesshomaru said as he tried to move her. He was stopped by Azrael who held firmly onto him.
"Let go of me." Sesshomaru commanded as his eyes glowed with anger.
"Fool, these are pure blood bat demon's direct decendents of the lord of the bat demon's. Don't pass them off as some second rate demon." Azrael warned. Azrael was so focused on making sure no one alerted the demon's of their pressence that he didn't sense the bat demon that appeared behind him.
"Iron Reaver Soul Stealer!" Inuyasha yelled as he lunged at the bat demon behind Azrael. When Inuyasha struck the demon in dispersed into a cloud of smoke.
"Idiot!" Azrael cursed as Inuyasha looked at him confused.
"I just saved your life." Inuyasha said blankly. It was then that one of Kagome's sacred arrow's flew past his head. "Whoa, what was that for?"
"Inuyasha!" Kagome yelled as she pointed behind him. The bat demon had reformed and was about to attack Inuyasha. Kagome's sacred arrow purrified the demon when it hit it, leaving nothing but a skeleton.
"Like...I was saying, you can't kill them with a physical attack, they will just turn to mist." Azrael declared as everyone's focus was now on him. "Only the sacred power of a priestess or..."
"Or what?" Koga interupted.
"You'll find out soon enough." Azrael said. By this time the bat demon's had become aware of the other's presence. Their red eyes glowed in the darkness of the cave.
"It's him..." the voices said as they looked at the group.
"I don't care what you say, I'm going to cut every last one of them!" Bankotsu said as he tried to walk forward. Before he could take three steps he was stopped by some invisible wall. "What the?"
"For your protection I've created a barrier." Azrael said without looking back.
"What do you mean for our protection?" Miroku asked.
"Yeah, I mean your just human. You can't take on all those demons." Shippo exclaimed.
"Heh, that's where your wrong. The reason they kidnapped Rin, was because of me." Azrael said as he turned his head. His eyes glowed the same bright red as the bat demons.
"What! You mean your a bat demon!" Sango yelled in surprise.
"So was this your plan all along? To get us all together so you could absorb our powers." Sesshomaru stated, not batting an eye at what Azrael had just revealed.
" I just can't believe your a bat demon. Why couldn't I sense it?" Inuyasha asked.
"Theirs a time and a place for that. This is not the time nor the place." Azrael said. "Forgive me for lying to you. It was never my intention for you to find out about what I really am. Also, it was never my intention to get you involved with...this."
"I don't care who he is. A demon that give's up his fangs is even worse than a half-demon." One of the stronger looking bat demon's exclaimed.
"Fool, he will surely have your head for that." another whined.
"He hasn't shown his face here in over fifty years, what makes him think that he is welcome here. We don't need him. With out his fangs we are a hundred times stronger than him." With that all the bat demon's took the air as they launched an attack on Azrael.
"Damn it, they're going to kill him. I'm breaking this barrier." Inuyasha said as his tetsuiaga began to glow red. Before he could swing his sword his hand was stopped by Sesshomaru.
"What the hell are you doing? They're going to kill him, and then they're going to kill Rin."
"Let's see what Azrael has been keeping from us. If my guess is correct he is more than capable to handle these demons." Sesshomaru said. Everyone noticed that Sesshomaru was a little paler than usual as he looked at Azrael.
*If it is him...what does this all mean?* Sesshomaru thought to himself.
Azrael only looked forwards as the demon's made their descent upon him.
"Those of you who attack me shall not be spared." Azrael said in a voice that seemed very different from the one everyone was accustomed to. It was deeper, darker.
"Our fidelity to you is nothing anymore. To use you are no longer the lord of the bat demons!" one said as he attacked Azrael.
"If that is what you see...then you have this coming." Azrael said as he sidestepped the attack and cut the demon in half. With out stopping Azrael launched himself into the air.
"Celestial Chaos Slash!" Azrael yelled as he twirled around in air. His sword glowing brightly as it launched a powerful vortex of energy which decimated many of the bat demons. The remaining few cowered in fear from the sheer power and presence of Azrael, who now stood before them with eyes and sword glowing the color of blood.
"So I was correct. He is the Lord of the Bat Demon's." Sesshomaru said to everyone.
"Wait, he's the Lord of the Bat Demon's." Kagome exclaimed in surprise.
"But I thought you said he disappeared." Miroku asked.
"Yes, evidently he has a lot of explaining to do." Sesshomaru replied. Azrael walked towards Rin with confident strides. The bat demon's scurried out of his way for fear of suffering his wrath. Azrael stopped in front of her and waved his hand in front of her face. Suddenly Rin snapped out of the induced mind control caused by the bat demon's.
"Azrael, Lord Sesshomaru!" Rin said as she looked at her savior and then to her Lord. Rin ran happily to Sesshomaru ignoring all the bat demon's which had receded from the cave. Azrael dropped his shield so she could enter and hug Sesshomaru. By this time Azrael's eyes had returned to normal, as had his voice.
"Okay Azrael you have a lot of explaining to do." Koga sneered.
"Koga!" Ayame yelled at how rude Koga was being.
"He's right Ayame. Azrael lied to us, now he needs to tell us what's really going on." Kagome said as she looked from Ayame to Azrael.
"Heh, fine. Some how I knew if I continued traveling with you it would come to this." Azrael said as he sat down on one of the many boulders in the cave. "As you probably know by now I am in fact the Lord of the Bat Demon's. At one time the most feared demon in all the land. That was until I met her. You see about sixty years ago I met a powerful priestess named Miguro, who of course tried to kill me. I defeated her, but for some reason I couldn't bring myself to kill her. She begged me to, she had told me that I had killed her sister and that without her, death would be better than living. After seeing her something just clicked inside of me. I could barely bring myself to kill humans anymore. One day I ran across this sword you see now. Who ever used it became a berserker, manipulated by it's evil. With her help I used my fangs to seal away it's evil power, at the same time reducing my own power. Then came the battle with your two's father. We fought to a standstill, I would have perished but I made a deal with your father. I promised never to return to my old ways in return for us to end the battle. Your father could sense that what I was telling was true and as he kept his word, so did I. A few years later I met another human priestess named Naomi, she ended up being the daughter of Miguro. We fell in love, and I had all but giving up my demon powers. With her help I eased the remaining blood lust inside of me. I then chose a profession of killing demons, mainly to protect my family. About seven years ago our daughter...Rosalyn was born. I was so happy...then Naraku struck the village searching for my jewel shards."
Azrael couldn't finish the rest. Everyone just looked at eachother at what he had just revealed to them. Inuyasha now realized it was Naomi and Rosalyn that Naraku had summoned for Azrael to fight, also that explained why he was so mad that Inuyasha didn't express his feeling for Kagome.
*He gave up all his demonic power, even his status just to be with the woman he loved.* Inuyasha thought as he gazed at Azrael, then turned at looked at Kagome. *Maybe there is a chance for us yet.*
