Chapter 8: The Song of Truth
For the rest of the evening, Kagome did not see Sesshomaru nor did she desire to seek him. If he was angry, he and every right to be, if he was sad…she was suffering along with him. As soon as she had left him, she left to her room and slid down her door, sobbing and crying into her kimono which was now soaked with her salty tears. She still was suffering, agonizing pain which crept into her heart and destroyed her very being. She knew, she knew from this day on, she could never forgive herself for her actions although she knew it was right. Truth always hurt, unfortunately, truth always seemed to avoid her from following her heart and right now, her heart desired Sesshomaru.
Kagome knew that this decision may have been hard for him now but she knew that once he would be happy he did not choose her as his ate. First of all, she was weak and she was undesirable. She had no hope to become the strong support Sesshomaru may have needed in the future. Though she hated to say it, Erina was perfect for him. She was strong and she could not stand submission, she could not stand to be controlled and she was feisty. Maybe, that was why Sesshomaru chose Erina. She was much prettier and she was and Erina was in a very social stance, since she was the full inu youkai of a great Lord and Lady of the North East.
Kagome never realized when she began to tremble lightly but she was not cold, she began a cold sweat, one that threatened to consume her of heat. She fanned herself with her hand before she was about to stand over her bed and sit in it. Her breath was heavier and she started breathing shortly before coughing into a handkerchief. She looked, burgundy specks of blood, a lot of blood, before she felt light headed and her vision went black before she fainted.
--------------------------------------
Sesshomaru paced back and forth in his study, a thoughtful expression was visible on his face. He was thinking, replaying the events that took place a couple hours ago. His heart was broken; it was seriously torn to pieces. A knot was formed in his throat and he knew if he did not calm himself down, he was most likely to break down and cry.
A knock to his door brought him back out of his trance and he allowed his servant to present before him. The young girl stood and bowed her head respectfully, waiting for him to order her to speak. He narrowed his eyes angered, very angered with a guessed impatience.
“What is it?”
“The priestess wishes to see you”
“What for?”
“She is seeking for Kagome, she mentioned they were leaving on her request tonight and when they were prepared, she was no where to be found”
“Is she not in her room?”
“Most possibly, my lord, but she is not answering her door and it's locked”
“Fine, I will meet them outside her room immediately” he responded sourly
“Yes Lord Sesshomaru” the young girl bowed respectfully and left the study immediately
Sesshomaru growled lightly and sniffed the air. A faint smell her blood tainted his nose and he growled fiercely. Who dared shed the blood of his Kagome? His inner dominating demonic spirit asked with possessiveness. His chosen one was in pain, a pain that he would heal with love…even if the love was never returned. His determination was settled and he left with no moment to waste.
Walking swiftly to meet the others, he quickly came to a stop when Kagome's blood became thicker in the air. The priestess Kikyo quickly bowed, as did the rest of the companions before he spoke suddenly.
“It has come to my attention that you worry yourself's with Kagome's well being?” he asked calmly
“Yes, Lord Sesshomaru, she planned to meet us but failed and we worry that she may not be quite alright”
“I understand, priestess, and you're right, her blood is very detectable”
“So, why are you not doing anything?” asked Inuyasha, impatient, immature, and in anger
“You, Inuyasha” he began, pointing a finger at him “are in not position to direct my steps and actions, unlike yourself; I have the power to protect her if she is in such danger”
“Shut up, you insolent jerk” yelled Inuyasha and Sesshomaru quickly ignored him, ordering a servant to open her door
When the door was open, Sesshomaru walked in, ignoring the yells and insults his half brother made when he ordered his servant to not let anyone in as he closed and locked the door behind him.
He stared at her limp, slumbering form. She had fainted obviously because she was slumping off of the bed. She looked heavenly, just like the being she was and she looked somewhat peaceful. Her hands were hot and sweaty as he touched them, holding them in his and sighing deeply before letting go. She wasn't dead, he assured himself but she was out cold which did not seem to flatter him much either.
Wind entered the room and brushed her dark locks of hair back. He sat beside her in her bed and stared at her now exposed neck. Although such thoughts did not become him, he wanted to bite her neck or taste her skin. The feeling or urge as some might say, was getting the best of him he acted upon his desires. He leaned over her, kissed her soft, creamy neck before sucking on it and nibbling her skin to his delight.
She was as sweet as he would have imagine, her taste only made his demonic blood crave her. As if an addiction, a strong feeling to keep her close, her skin, her warmth, she had become his addiction. He softly licked the red mark and sat back up. He watched as her eyelashes shuddered before her big blue eyes opened.
“Sesshomaru…” she whispered weakly
“Yes, love, I am here” he mentioned in a soft whisper
“Why are you in here?”
“Because, you were ill and I do not want to leave you alone”
“Did Inuyasha leave yet?”
“Unfortunately not” he said with a growl and she quickly got up and started gathering her things
“Kagome, you cannot leave me!” he exclaimed and got up from his seat
She only ignored him, small tears forming in her eyes. The way things are, the way things are, she reminded herself constantly. She grabbed her things, making sure to put on a haori and trying to take her mind off any convincing.
“Kagome…don't do this” he pleaded, hurt visible in his voice
“Sesshomaru, please do not stop me, this is the way things are” she responded, hurtfully
“They don't have to be this way” he said but she ignored his plea
She turned to face him and attempted to walk around him to the door but he abstained her. Then what he did next stunned her even more. He fell to his knees and he hugged her, nuzzling her stomach she could feel his tears wet her kimono. His sobs were audible too and she looked down at him, chewing her lip.
“Sesshomaru, stop” she whispered but he nuzzled even more into her stomach
“What is it that you want from me? What ever you want I'll grant but please don't leave me, please don't leave” he sobbed softly
“Sesshomaru…I can't”
“That's what you always say, you don't know me that well, as you claim to know me because you would know that I love you, love you more than anything in the whole world” he said in between tears
Kagome fell to her knees and lifted his head up to her face, to look him in his eyes. He was crying, for sure and he looked extremely hurt. He buried his face in her chest and sobbed some more, Kagome only held him and rocked him back and forth. She sighed heavily and kissed his head before assuring him, promising him what she thought she couldn't do herself.
“I will never leave you” she said, staring into the stars outside her balcony
------------------------------------
The guard outside the door smiled. Finally, Torin thought to himself before informing the group that Kagome was staying and she would seek them out when she had gotten a little more settled. With the fight Inuyasha put up and after Kikyo calmed him down, everything was well and right with the world. Torin decided to leave and return to other duties as the companions left, the darkness consuming the whole palace, the world finally was preparing to sleep.
Torin walked down the hallway and was about to return to his quarters when he heard the castle doors open and two children with an older woman walking in. Torin flinched before daring to say anything, this was Erina and she had gotten back from her trip earlier than expected.
“Oh, Torin, be grand and tell me were Sesshomaru is”
“He is currently unavailable” he said through gritted teeth
“Well, I'm his mate, he should always be available to me” she answered with an attitude
“Then go find him yourself”
“Oh well…” she started but sniffed the air a little closer and Torin's eyes widened
She growled and walked upstairs, going straight for Kagome's room. She growled before storming through the door, finding Kagome sitting on her bed and Sesshomaru bowing lightly before he would leave. Sesshomaru did not even bother to look at Erina before walking out but Erina was obviously furious and Kagome looked at her with a bit of fear.
“Touch her and you die” he snarled and she backed away
“Why, Sesshomaru? Protect your mate first before some…”
“You are right, get out of my castle, you are no longer my mate” he said calmly and she went into a panicked frenzy
“No, well, Sesshomaru this here proves that…wait a minute, were is my mating mark” she screamed in rage
“Like I said, you are no longer my mate, get out of my castle”
“Sesshomaru…you bastard, look Kagome what you've done, you've broken up a bond for your own evil purposes but it is alright, Kagome, you'll pay and you will certainly suffer you…you” she screamed as some guard took her out and out of the castle
“Good night, Kagome, would you like to join me?” he asked playfully but she shook her head
“No, I want to think a little”
“Alright…as you wish” he said, a little deprived from her affection but decided that it was best for her to get adjusted to the feeling
Kagome lay in her bed and decided to shun any thought of Erina out of her head. She then heard a little knock then a small head crept from the door with a smile. She laughed in return and Rin cuddled in her arms, quickly falling asleep.
Kagome smiled to herself, her decision taking a load off her heart. She loved Sesshomaru, this was the truth. She loved him so much she would grant him any wish as he said he would do for her. Two lovers don't collide together; they collide when they're apart. A need to be close is always there.
Not dwelling on the matter any longer she snuggled Rin closer to her and closed her eyes, floating to the world of peaceful dreams and happy endings. Every dark cloud had a silver lining and this feeling was worth more than even the most precious gold.
