Kagome explained to her mother what had happened and why they needed to go. She understood and let her go. She packed a few things and hugged her mother goodbye.
"Here, this was in your hand when we found you. You wouldn't let go of it, even while you were unconscious." Her mother said as she handed her a tiny bag. "Look at it later. It might bring a few memories."
Now they were on their way back to the tree they met at. Kagome was on Inuyasha's back. They weren't in a hurry, so Inuyasha walked most of the way.
They made it to the tree a couple hours later. Inuyasha let Kagome down and she stood with the help of Inuyasha. "Well, we're here and nothing is happening." Inuyasha said.
"I don't get it." Kagome said. "We're back to where we met, but nothing's happening."
"I'm going to take a look around and make sure we're at the right tree." Inuyasha said. He helped Kagome to lean against the tree.
As soon as they both touched it, flashes of scenery passed through their minds. Kagome slowly slumped to the ground holding her head. It hurt from the sudden rush of images. Inuyasha sat down next to her and held her, waiting for her pain to pass. Since he was a hanyou, he didn't feel pain as badly as she did.
"Did you see that too?" Kagome asked as soon as the pain passed.
"Yeah." Inuyasha said. "Where are they though? I don't recognize any of those places."
"I do. Okaa-san, Souta, and I went to visit Ji-chan. He was waiting for his shrine to be sold." Kagome said.
"Where is it?" Inuyasha asked.
"Well, if we left now we could make it there by tomorrow afternoon. It's north of my village." Kagome explained.
"Do you want to leave now?" Inuyasha asked.
"What are we going to do about food and other things?"
"I can hunt. Whatever else we can worry about when the time comes." Inuyasha said.
"Then I guess we could leave now. I'm glad we ate before we left." Kagome laughed.
"Me too." Inuyasha said. "Let's get going before it gets too dark to walk."
Kagome nodded and they started heading north to Okan village.
~~~~~~~~~
Nightfall came faster than they expected. When it started getting dark, Inuyasha looked for a place to make camp. He started a fire and left Kagome to hunt. He didn't go too far from her. He eventually came back with a couple of rabbits.
After eating, they both sat around the fire not saying anything. Everything had happened so fast. They were being pressured into finding their pasts. Kagome was ripped away from her life while Inuyasha was woken from his sleep.
"We should go to sleep so we can get an early start tomorrow." Inuyasha said.
"Okay." Kagome said. She sighed when she remembered how uncomfortable the ground was. Before she could think about it any longer Inuyasha draped his haori on her shoulders. She pulled her arms through the sleeves and tied it tight. Inuyasha picked her up and jumped into a branch of a tree. "What are you doing?"
"We're sleeping up here. It's not safe to sleep on the ground." Inuyasha said.
"I can't sleep in a tree. I'll fall out." Kagome gulped when she realized how far from the ground they were.
"Do you trust me?" Inuyasha asked looking into her eyes.
"Hai." She said without hesitation.
Inuyasha was a little shocked at her answer and how quickly she answered. "Then just go to sleep. I won't let you fall." He said.
Kagome yawned and rested her head on Inuyasha's chest. He was surprised that she'd gotten so comfortable with him in such a short time. In their first hour of knowing each other she'd felt comfortable enough to sleep in his lap. She was so kind and gentle.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next morning Kagome woke before Inuyasha did. Seeing as how they were high up in a tree she waited until he woke. She didn't want to wake him up, so she let him sleep. She was surprised that they hadn't fallen out of the tree. That's when she remembered the bag her mother handed to her. She pulled it out of her pocket and opened it to look at what was inside.
She dumped the contents in her hand and out came a rosary. She vaguely remembered her mother telling her about it. So much had happened to her in the past couple of days she couldn't remember. Shrugging it off she put the rosary back in its bag. She could look at it later.
Not wanting to wait any longer Kagome tapped Inuyasha awake. "Inuyasha, wake up." She shook him a little. "Inuyasha."
Kagome almost screamed when Inuyasha reached out and grabbed her hand. "Don't scare me like that!" She shouted grabbing her chest.
"I didn't mean to." Inuyasha chuckled. Her reaction was priceless. "What did you want?"
"I woke up and you were still sleeping. I didn't want to stay up in this tree all day. My legs are starting to go numb." Kagome said.
"You should've woken me up earlier." Inuyasha said. "I don't need to sleep for long."
"I didn't know that." Kagome said.
"Well, now you do." Inuyasha said. He grabbed her and leaped down from the tree.
Kagome wrapped her arms around Inuyasha and closed her eyes. It took her a while to realize they had landed. She looked up to find Inuyasha smirking at her. "Warn me before you do something like that!" Kagome yelled.
"Then I wouldn't be able to see that look on your face." Inuyasha smirked.
Kagome glared at him before sitting down on the ground in front of the fire from last night. "I'm going to got hunt while you sit here and pout." Inuyasha laughed and ran off into the forest.
~~~~~~~~~
After finishing their meal Inuyasha and Kagome had argued about her walking. Her leg was feeling better and she felt capable of walking for a short amount of time. The village wasn't far and she was sure she could make it.
The argument lasted a long time. Inuyasha made a point and she gave in when he told her that it would be better to walk through the village on her own so that it wouldn't arouse any suspicions. Being carried around by a hanyou wasn't something people see every day. There weren't very many youkai roaming around villages.
They reached the village around noon. Inuyasha set Kagome down on her own feet so she could steady herself. They walked slowly to the village and ignored the stares. After walking a little further, a monk approached them.
"Can I help you? It seems as if you're looking for someone or something." The monk asked. He was young with a small ponytail, purple robes, and two gold earrings in each ear. He held a staff in his left hand and his right hand was covered with a purple cloth.
"Well we're looking for something, but we're not quite sure what it is yet. We'll know when we find it." Kagome said. She could remember the vague images but she didn't know if it was a place or an object she needed to find.
"Can I be of any help? Would you like a place to rest? It seems as if you're in pain." The monk said.
"Are you? You were supposed to tell me the minute you started feeling anything." Inuyasha scolded.
"I'm fine. It would be nice to rest though. We could talk about what we need to look for." Kagome said.
"Next time tell me." Inuyasha said.
"I don't want you having to carry me everywhere we go." Kagome said. "I can walk on my own."
Inuyasha rolled his eyes. He saw her wince in pain when she shifted her weight to her other foot. He picked her up and threw her over his shoulder. "Can you show us where this place is?" Inuyasha asked the monk.
"Umm, sure." The monk said. "Right this way."
Inuyasha followed the monk as he walked towards a building. People were staring, but he glared at them and they pretended to continue on with their business. Walking inside the building, they were led to a room at the end of the hall.
"Will you put me down?" Kagome asked.
"If your not going to listen to me, then I'm not going to listen to you." Inuyasha replied.
"Can you at least carry me in a dignified manner?"
Inuyasha carefully adjusted her so that she was being carried bridal style instead of thrown over his shoulders. "Happy?" He asked.
"I'd rather walk, but since I have no choice, then yes." Kagome said.
The monk stopped at the door of the last room at the end of the hallway. "Here you are. You can stay in this room while you discuss your actions. I will be in the room next to you. Please let me know if you need anything." The monk said and left.
"I didn't even get to say thanks." Kagome said.
"You can tell him later." Inuyasha walked into the room and set Kagome down in front of him.
"So what should we do now?" Kagome asked.
"What images did you see when you touched the Goshinboku?" Inuyasha asked.
"Goshinboku?"
"The tree I was sealed on."
"Oh. Well, I saw a staff and an image of a temple." Kagome said. "What about you?"
"I saw the same thing." Inuyasha said. "That monk had a staff similar to the one I saw in the images. I didn't get a good look at it, but it might be it."
"You think so? Maybe he knows where the temple we saw is." Kagome said.
"Maybe." Inuyasha shrugged.
"Let's go ask." Kagome stood up and started walking towards the door.
Inuyasha sighed and grabbed her arm pulling her down into his lap. "Don't you think we should figure out what we are going to say to him? Asking where a temple is, is kind of vague. There could be more than one, you know."
"We could describe it to him and see if he knows which one we're talking about." Kagome said. "You can let me go now."
Inuyasha let a blushing Kagome go and stood up with her. "Fine, we'll talk to the monk." He said.
Kagome smiled and walked to the monk's room next door. She knocked on the door and waited for him to answer. The door opened and the monk stood at the entrance. "Can I help you?" He asked.
"Hai, we were wondering if there were any temples around." Kagome asked.
"Hai, there are two. A new one is being built in place of the old one." The monk said.
"Do you mind showing us where they are?" Kagome asked.
"No problem. They are close by."
They followed the monk to the temples, which was about a minute away. One temple was old and almost to the point of crumbling. The new temple was almost complete. All it needed was a door and some poles in the front.
"This is the temple I saw." Inuyasha said. "Stay here. I'm going to take a look inside the old temple."
"I want to come." Kagome said.
"No, its too dangerous. It could fall apart at any minute." Inuyasha said. "Stay here, I won't be long."
Before Kagome could argue Inuyasha walked inside the temple. "Ano, I was wondering if you could tell me your name." Kagome asked.
"Ah, how rude of me not to introduce myself. My name is Miroku. I'm a traveling monk." He said.
"My name is Kagome, and the guy in the temple is Inuyasha. What are you doing here if you're traveling? It seems like you know the place well."
"I've been here for a while. They wished for me to stay and make sure the temple was free of any demons." Miroku explained. "And you? What are you doing here?"
"It's actually really complicated. I'm still not sure why we're here." Kagome said.
Miroku bent down to one knee and stood in front of her. He grasped her hand and looked her in the eyes. Kagome blushed and looked at him. "Ano..."
"Will you do me the honor of bearing my child?" Miroku asked.
"Nani?" Kagome asked shocked.
Kagome was suddenly pulled away into someone's arms. "What the fuck do you think you're doing?" A gruff voice growled.
Recognizing the voice Kagome spoke up. "He didn't do anything!" She reassured him.
"Didn't look like it." Inuyasha growled threateningly at the monk.
"Gomen, I didn't realize you were lovers." Miroku said standing up, brushing the dirt off of his robes.
"We're not lovers." Inuyasha and Kagome both stuttered.
"Really?" Miroku asked, smiling. "Ah then my offer still stands."
"To hell with that! She's not having any of your damn kids, you lecher! She doesn't even know you!" Inuyasha growled.
"Well, you sure act as if you are indeed her lover." Miroku said.
"We're not lovers." Kagome blushed. "I only met him a couple days ago!"
"Oh really? It seems as if you've known each other for years."
Both Inuyasha and Kagome realized that it felt as if they'd known each all their lives. They couldn't have known each other for that long. They just met a couple days ago. Didn't they?
"I apologize for moving in on your territory." Miroku whispered to Inuyasha. "I wouldn't have asked if I had known your intentions towards Kagome-sama."
"What are you talking about? I have no intentions like that." Inuyasha said.
"Oh. I was mistaken then." Miroku said.
Kagome screamed about the time Miroku finished his sentence. His hand drifted towards Kagome's rear and was now getting a good feel. Inuyasha growled and knocked the monk to the ground. He grabbed Kagome and embraced her.
"Keep your hands off her!" Inuyasha warned.
"So you do have some interest in her after all." Miroku stood and dusted himself off.
Kagome was shocked at Inuyasha's aggressiveness and Miroku's sudden personality changes. He seemed like such a respectable monk. Now she realized he was a hentai. She didn't have to worry about him now that she was in the safety of Inuyasha's arms.
"Keep your hands off, lecher!" Inuyasha warned again, ignoring what Miroku had said.
"I understand." Miroku said. "I couldn't resist. It's hard to control myself while in the presence of such beauty. I apologize."
`Maybe he's not so bad.' Kagome thought. "It's alright." She said.
"So, did you find what you needed in the temple?" Miroku asked Inuyasha.
He let his grip on Kagome down but didn't remove his arms from around her waist. "There was nothing there." Inuyasha answered.
"Maybe it has to do with Miroku-sama's staff. We saw that too." Kagome said.
"My staff?" Miroku asked.
"Hai, it may help us a little bit." Kagome said.
"Well, if it will help." Miroku held out his staff to them.
Both Kagome and Inuyasha reached for it. As soon as all three of their hands were on the staff images passed through their minds. Kagome collapsed to the ground holding her head. The pain was more intense than last time.
The pain passed and left only a throbbing feeling in her head. "Kagome, are you okay?" Inuyasha asked.
"I'm fine, my head just hurts a little." She said.
"Did anyone else see those images?" Miroku asked.
"You saw them too?" Inuyasha asked as he helped Kagome up.
"Hai, was I not supposed to?" Miroku asked examining his staff.
"I didn't think you'd see them too." Inuyasha said.
"Does that mean Miroku's involved in this too?" Kagome asked.
"Involved in what?"
"Can we go somewhere and rest? My head and leg hurts." Kagome said.
"Let's go back to the inn rooms." Miroku said.
Inuyasha nodded and picked Kagome up. They walked back to their rooms. Inuyasha laid Kagome down on the futon and left her to rest. "We'll be in the other room if you need anything. I'll explain to Miroku what's happened." He said.
"Hai, arigato." Kagome said.
Yay another chapter done. Hope you like it. Let me know what you think. Ja ne.
I put some lyrics at the beginning and end of the chapter. They mean something to me so I thought I'd put them in.
Just to let you know I won't be updating regularly on this fic. This is just to pass time and have something to write when I have writer's block. So don't expect updates regularly.
