Chapter 13

Telling The Truth?

--------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------

Take a bow, the night is over
This masquerade is getting older
Light are low, the curtains down
There's no one here
[There's no one here, there's no one in the crowd]
Say your lines but do you feel them
Do you mean what you say when there's no one around [no one around]
Watching you, watching me, one lonely star
[One lonely star you don't know who you are]
Chorus:
I've always been in love with you [always with you]
I guess you've always known it's true [you know it's true]
You took my love for granted, why oh why
The show is over, say good-bye
Say good-bye [bye bye], say good-bye
Make them laugh, it comes so easy
When you get to the part
Where you're breaking my heart [breaking my heart]
Hide behind your smile, all the world loves a clown
[Just make 'em smile the whole world loves a clown]
Wish you well, I cannot stay
You deserve an award for the role that you played [role that you played]
No more masquerade, you're one lonely star
[One lonely star and you don't know who you are]
(chorus, repeat)
Say good-bye [bye bye], say good-bye
All the world is a stage [world is a stage]
And everyone has their part [has their part]
But how was I to know which way the story'd go
How was I to know you'd break
[You'd break, you'd break, you'd break]
You'd break my heart
I've always been in love with you
[I've always been in love with you]
Guess you've always known
You took my love for granted, why oh why
The show is over, say good-bye
(chorus)
Say good-bye [bye bye], say good-bye
Say good-bye

"So you don't remember anything?" Kouga asked for the millionth time.

"No, we don't remember anything." Inuyasha said. His patience was really wearing thin. They had explained what happened after each of them awoke. Throughout the whole story Kouga kept asking if they didn't remember anything. What was making it worse was that Inuyasha could see Kouga slowly inching closer and closer to Kagome.

"If you could be so kind as to tell us what you know about us." Miroku said.

"Hai, onegai Kouga-kun." Kagome looked to him.

"Kouga-kun?" Inuyasha muttered under his breath.

"Since you want to know." Kouga smiled at Kagome. "Well when you were young I found you in the forest. I thought you were lost but you were with inukkuro over there. He jumped in like crazy and told me to back off. Ever since then we've been fighting. Miroku and Sango would just watch and mutter `here they go again'. You would always try to stop us. The only thing that worked was when you said some word. I don't remember what it was..."

"You mean sit?" Kagome asked. Inuyasha slammed to the ground with a grunt. "Gomen Inuyasha."

Inuyasha muttered and sat up. "I don't remember any of that. Mind speeding it up?"

Kouga snorted but told them anyway. "That was the word. Anyway a couple years after meeting you I always saw you with bruises and cuts, I blamed it on inukkuro. You as usual tried to say it was from youkai. Whether or not it was I don't know. You're a miko so I don't doubt you were attacked often. I just said it to piss Inuyasha off."

"You bastard! You tried to blame that on me?" Inuyasha growled.

"What would it matter? You can't remember anyway!" Kouga shouted.

"Would you guys calm down!" Kagome yelled.

"This is just like old times." Kouga sighed.

"So then do you know anything about a fight we were involved in?" Kagome asked.

"No. One day you weren't around. I couldn't track anyone's scent and no one told me you were going anywhere. You did look distracted the last couple of times I saw you before that though." Kouga said.

"I see." Kagome said sadly. She hoped things would be explained a little more. She found an old friend so it wasn't that bad.

Suddenly her hands were in Kouga's. She looked questioningly at him. "Ano..." She said. She could hear Inuyasha growling behind her.

"Even though I lost you last time I don't want to lose you now. I know what we had was lost but I hope we can rebuild." Kouga said. "Just forget about Inukur-"

Inuyasha had had enough. After seeing him touch Kagome and listened to his babbling he stood up and kicked Kouga in the back of the head. "Back off!" He said.

"Why should I? I claimed her long ago. I don't remember you having a claim." Kouga said.

"If you look carefully you'll see that she is marked." Inuyasha whispered low enough for only Kouga to hear.

"What?" Kouga said. He sniffed the air lightly. "You haven't mated yet."

"She has the mark on her shoulder." Inuyasha smirked.

"What do you think they're talking about?" Kagome asked.

"I don't really know." Miroku said.

"Something private." Sango said. "They aren't talking loud enough for us to hear so it must be a youkai thing."

"You marked her?" Kouga said in disbelief. "You wouldn't. You may have forgotten your memories but your personality hasn't changed. Back then you guarded her constantly and fought me away but you would never vocally claim or mark her."

"Then this just means I get a second chance." Inuyasha said. "Either way she's marked and it's not going away."

"Oh I see." Kouga smiled suspiciously. "She doesn't know does she?"

"Don't fucking say anything to her!" Inuyasha growled as quietly as he could.

"Ah I see. She doesn't know. You didn't explain it to her did you?" Kouga asked. He smirked and crossed his arms. "She is human and has forgotten everything. I still won't give up. If she allows me to claim her then your mark will go away."

Kouga sat down next to Kagome in his original position. Inuyasha wanted to beat Kouga until he agreed to never try and claim Kagome. Things were confusing enough as it is, he didn't need any competition. It seemed that Kagome liked Kouga somewhat. She was smiling and laughing with him. It was enough to make his blood boil. Knowing if he did pursue his fight with Kagome she would just stop him so he sat down next to Kagome, an arm brushing against hers.

"How did you get here so fast anyway?" Kouga asked.

"Some kitsune led us here." Miroku said.

"Kitsune?" Kagome asked. "Where is he?"

"He's been listening to the entire conversation." Inuyasha said. "Come on out runt no one is going to hurt you."

From behind Kagome there was a noise in the bushes. She looked behind her and saw Shippo shyly walk into view. `Kawaii!' She thought. "You brought Inuyasha to me?" She asked.

"Hai." He said in a small voice, his head was down in embarrassment.

"He said you remind him of his Okaa-san so he wanted to help." Sango said.

"Where is your Okaa-san and Otou-san?" Kagome asked him.

"They died. I've been on my own for a while now." Shippo said.

"His parents were attacked by a gang of rival wolves. It happened a couple of months ago. That's why we leave him alone." Kouga said.

"You could've helped him." Kagome said. She urged the kit to come closer and the she reached out a hand and held him in her lap. "You didn't even offer or anything?"

"Like a kitsune is going to fit in with a bunch of wolf youkai." Kouga said.

"Arigato Shippo." Kagome smiled at him, ignoring Kouga altogether. She couldn't understand why he didn't even offer to help.

Shippo smiled and basked in the attention Kagome was showering him with. Who cares if he just met her? It didn't bother him. He had a mother's touch and that's all he was concerned with at the moment.

"Well if you want you can stay in the cave for the night. Then you could ask more questions if you want." Kouga said. "I'll have Ginta and Hakkaku round up the pack to hunt."

"You don't have to go to so much trouble." Kagome said.

"Its no trouble." Kouga smiled. "Wait here and I'll bring back some food soon."

Everyone watched as Kouga left in a whirlwind. "Well that was interesting." Miroku said. He stood up and brushed of his robe. "I think I'm going to get some firewood. It's starting to get chilly."

"Kirara and I will help." Sango stood up and fastened her weapon on her back. The three of them left and Kagome turned to Inuyasha.

"What were you and Kouga-kun talking about?" Kagome asked him.

"Nothing important." Inuyasha said.

"You won't tell me?" Kagome asked.

"No." Inuyasha said strictly and folded his arms.

Kagome sighed and continued to shower Shippo with attention. Inuyasha was getting jealous and tried to ignore it. It was hard when he could hear Shippo sighing in content all the time. They had just met the runt just barely that day and already he was getting more attention than him.

"Why can't you tell me?" Kagome asked, not about to let it go.

"Because it's a waste of time to explain." Inuyasha growled. "Why do you call him Kouga-kun?"

"Because he seems nice." Kagome said. "We knew him before we forgot our memories."

"How do you know he's telling the truth? He could just be taking advantage of your kindness. There is people like that you know." Inuyasha raised his voice a little to get his point across.

"Kouga-kun doesn't seem like that!" Kagome said. "I believe him."

"Quit calling him that! There's no proof that he's telling the truth!" Inuyasha yelled.

"It doesn't matter. You can't change my mind. I have no reason so suspect he isn't telling the truth." Kagome shrugged.

Inuyasha growled lightly at her ignorance. Even if he was telling the truth it needed to be seen. He wanted proof that he was telling the truth. Shippo was still getting more attention than he was and it was just getting worse for him. He ignored it and thought of ways to prove whether or not Kouga was telling the truth.

A couple minutes later Miroku, Sango, and Kirara came back. They built a fire and sat down in front of it. "That's so much better." Sango smiled. She noticed that both Inuyasha and Kagome looked a little irritated. "Did something happen while we were away?"

"Inuyasha thinks Kouga-kun is lying about knowing us and made everything up." Kagome said. Shippo was already fast asleep in her lap. Her petting eventually lulled him to sleep.

"I don't see any reason why he would lie." Miroku said. "During his story he didn't stutter or anything."

"I have to agree with Inuyasha. He can't be trusted. He kidnaps Kagome-chan and then says he knows us. It seems a little suspicious to me." Sango said.

"I told you." Inuyasha said.

"We could always ask him something to make sure he's not lying." Sango said.

"That would be difficult considering that we don't remember anything from our pasts." Miroku said.

"Yo." Kouga said as he laid a plate of rabbits down in front of the fire.

"Arigato Kouga-kun." Kagome smiled at him.

"No problem." Kouga said. "I heard your conversation earlier."

"Well...you see..." Kagome didn't quite know exactly how to explain it to him.

"We can't tell if your telling the truth or not." Inuyasha said bluntly.

"I understand. It's the smart thing to do. I don't think you should trust strangers. What could I do to prove that I'm not lying to you?" Kouga said. He sat down and tried to think.

"That's a hard question." Sango said. She couldn't really think of anything.

"Ah I know." Kouga said. Everyone looked at him and waited for him to finish. "There's a scar on her chest." He pointed to where the scar should be. He traced his finger down from right beneath her left breast diagonally about an inch.

"Oi, back off pervert!" Inuyasha yelled as he moved in front of her.

Kagome had a hand on her chest where he said the scar was. "He's right. I do have a scar there. Exactly like he said." She looked up at him. Everyone looked at him in shock. "How did you know that? I don't even know how I got it."

"One day I went to visit you and you were bathing when you got attacked by something from in the water. I got there in time to stop the youkai from doing any worse. I had to treat the wound. You were passed out from almost drowning in the water." Kouga explained.

"Wait, you saw her naked?" Inuyasha growled loudly.

"Well that means that he is telling the truth." Miroku said.

"You saw her naked?" Inuyasha asked again.

"I told you." Kouga said. "I don't blame you for wanting to see proof though."

"You saw her naked?" Inuyasha yelled.

Some will learn; many do.
Cover up or spread it out.
Turn around, had enough,
Pick and choose or pass it on.
Buying in, heading for
Suffer now or suffer then.
Its bad enough
I want the fear... need the fear

[Pre-Chorus]
Cause he's alone (he has become)
He's alone (he has become)

[Chorus:]
Well if they're making it, making it
Then they're pushing it, pushing it
And they're leading us along
The hassle of all the screaming fits
That panic makes remorse

After all, what's the point?
Cause levitation is possible.
If you're a fly; achieved and gone
Theres time for this and so much more.
It's typical - create a world
A special place of my design
To never cope or never care just use the key

[Pre-Chorus]
Cause he's alone (where have we gone)
He's alone (where have we gone)

[Chorus]

Over and Over a slave
Became
Over and Over a slave
Became
Over and Over a slave
Became
Over and Over a slave
Became

[Chorus x2]

Well this update didn't take nearly as long as I thought it would. Hopefully I'll have time to update faster. I have such a writer's block on my other stories. Things are getting less complicated for me so I may be able to write more often but I can't make any promises. Hope you like this chapter. Let me know what you think. Ja ne.

Questions/Comments:

trevor( )- Ja ne means later. I'm not entirely sure how many chapters there are going to be. I think at least twenty chapters. Somewhere around there.

Thanks for reading and reviewing.
