Chapter 18
A Dark Aura

----------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------

I know that you're hiding things
Using gentle words to shelter me
Your words were like a dream
But dreams could never fool me
Not that easily

I acted so distant then
Didn't say goodbye before you left
But I was listening
You'll fight your battles far from me
Far too easily

"Save your tears cause I'll come back"
I could hear that you whispered as you walked through that door
But still I swore
To hide the pain when I turn back the pages
Shouting might have been the answer
What if I'd cried my eyes out and begged you not to depart
But now I'm not afraid to say what's in my heart

Though a thousand words
Have never been spoken
They'll fly to you
Crossing over the time and distance holding you
Suspended on silver wings

And a thousand words
One thousand confessions
Will cradle you
Making all of the pain you feel seem far away
They'll hold you forever

The dream isn't over yet
Though I often say I can't forget
I still relive that day
"You've been there with me all the way"
I still hear you say

"Wait for me I'll write you letters"
I could see how you stammered with your eyes to the floor
But still I swore to hide the doubt
When I turn back the pages
Anger might have been the answer
What if I'd hung my head and said that I couldn't wait
But now I'm strong enough to know it's not too late

Cause a thousand words
Call out through the ages
They'll fly to you
Even though we can't see I know they're reaching you
Suspended on silver wings

Oh a thousand words
One thousand embraces
Will cradle you
Making all of your weary days seem far away
They'll hold you forever

Oh a thousand words
Have never been spoken
They'll fly to you
They'll carry you home and back into my arms
Suspended on silver wings ohhh

And a thousand words
Call out through the ages
They'll cradle you
Turning all of the lonely years to only days
They'll hold you forever

Later in the evening when everyone had finished their meal they sat around the fire talking. Kouga talked about his pack and some of the things he remembered about Kagome and her friends.

Inuyasha, same as always, wasn't paying attention to Kouga's ramblings, he was too busy making sure he didn't get any closer to Kagome. The wolf may have everyone else fooled but Inuyasha could see right through him. He was just trying to be nice so he could get to Kagome. Well it wouldn't work for him.

“Well I should get back. It's getting late.” Kouga said as he stood up.

“Arigato for everything Kouga-kun.” Kagome stood and smiled.

“Anything for you.” He said as he grabbed her hands. “Let me know if you need anything. Ja ne.”

Without another word he left. “Wow he's so quick to leave.” Sango said.

“Probably because Inuyasha would attack him.” Miroku said.

“Shut it bouzo.” Inuyasha said. He stood up and began walking into the trees.

Kagome, wanting to know what was bothering him followed. “I'll be back guys.” She waved to her friends.

“What's going on?” Shippo asked as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes.

“Shippo!” Sango said. “I almost forgot you were here. You've been asleep all day.”

“I fell asleep in that tree stump a while ago and then when I woke up everyone was gone and so I fell asleep here. What did you guys do?” He asked.

“Well...” Sango began.

-------------------

“Inuyasha!” Kagome called out to him. “What's wrong?”

“Nothing.” He said as he kept walking but slowed his pace so Kagome could catch up quicker.

“We've been through this before. Don't make me say the word.” She threatened.

Suddenly they both saw a flash of white and they both fell to the ground...

************************
A young eight-year-old Kagome ran after Inuyasha through the forest. “Inuyasha wait! Don't make me say the word!” She yelled.

Inuyasha suddenly stopped not wanting to be forced to the ground face first. It was so degrading to have a female younger girl subdue him to the ground with one word. “What?” He said gruffly.

“What's wrong? You just suddenly ran off.” She asked. She was bent over trying to catch her breath.

“Nothing!” He shouted. He turned away from her and crossed his arms.

“Come on you can tell me.” Kagome said. She sat down and pulled on his pant leg. “Please?”

Inuyasha couldn't stand it when she talked that way. He sighed, turned around and sat down on the ground facing her. “Fine I'll tell you. I just don't like Kouga.” He said.

“Kouga-kun? What's wrong with him?” Kagome asked.

“Because that! You call him Kouga-kun!” Inuyasha said. “What the hell has he done to earn an honorific?”

“Is that what bothers you because I call him Kouga-kun? He's the only one I use an honorific for.” Kagome said. “Are you mad because I don't call you by an honorific? I can start calling you by one if you want.”

“No, I just don't like him. Every time he's around you pay attention to him the whole time.” Inuyasha crossed his arms and looked away in embarrassment.

“He doesn't visit that often and he travels far to come see me.” Kagome said. “Don't be mad Inu-kun.”

************************

Inuyasha and Kagome both gasped. Inuyasha quickly sat up and then helped Kagome. “Did you see that too?” He asked.

“Hai.” Kagome said. She felt weak and tired. “Another flashback.”

“These flashbacks don't tell us anything we need to know!” Inuyasha yelled.

“Inuyasha I'm tired...” Kagome trailed off and fell onto his lap.

He had to admit, he too was tired. He picked Kagome up and began walking back to camp. She needed to sleep and he at least needed to sit down for a while. The others would probably want to know what was taking them so long. The runt would probably be whining for Kagome too.

When he got to camp he sat down with Kagome in his lap. “Oh Kagome fell asleep. I didn't think she was that tired.” Sango said. “She seemed fine when she chased after you.”

“Did you guys happen to see a flashback or anything?” Inuyasha asked.

“You saw it too?” Miroku said. “We were just talking then all of a sudden we saw a vision of you and Kagome talking. We couldn't really hear much but it was the two of you.”

“Yeah we saw it. Kagome passed out though.” He explained. “Why aren't you guys sleeping or something? Aren't you tired?”

“I'm exhausted actually. I just thought I'd try to stay up until you two got back so we could discuss what happened.” Sango said.

“I'm not as tired but I thought the same.” Miroku said.

“Might as well sleep. We're all tired.” Inuyasha said.

“Not me!” Shippo exclaimed.

“You were sleeping all day that's why.” Inuyasha said. “Be quiet or you'll wake Kagome.”

“Hai.” Shippo said quietly. He jumped onto Inuyasha's shoulder then lowered himself gently on Kagome's stomach, careful not to wake her. He curled up then fell asleep.

“So much for the lazy runt.” Inuyasha rolled his eyes.

“Well if you don't mind then I think I'll rest up.” Miroku said.

“Good idea Houshi-sama.” Sango said and then began making her bed.

Inuyasha jumped into the tree above him gracefully. He got comfortable and rested his head against the tree, listening for any danger.

`Awaken.'

“Who are you?” Kagome asked. She was once again in the familiar darkness.

`You must recover your memories. You are all in great danger!”

“How can we recover them faster?” Kagome asked it.

`You must keep your minds open. The memories do not come because you all doubt the images being shown. You must accept that the memories are real. No false images shall be shown to you, although you must be aware of others. If they know of your current situation they will take advantage of you and take what your destiny is based on.'

“Whom should we be aware of?”

`That I do not know. They have made sure to keep themselves secret and their actions unknown. I will not be able to help you much longer. You're getting stronger although you can't feel it now. Try using your powers. Train yourself, instincts will guide you most of the way. Keep traveling if you must. You no longer need to remain here but there are others your memories have forgotten. Find them and your memories will come quicker and they may be able to aid you in the end.'

“Wait where should we go?”

`Stay in the western lands. Don't venture any further than that.'

The voice began to fade and Kagome felt the presence fading. She wanted to know who that was. She wanted to thank them but also ask them more questions.

Suddenly she felt a cold aura and heard a man laughing. She felt evil radiating all around her. She couldn't handle it. It was like it was trying to seep its way into her soul. Finally she couldn't take it anymore, falling to the ground she curled up into a ball trying to block it out. With the last of her energy she opened her mouth and screamed.

-------------------

Inuyasha, Miroku, Sango, Shippo, and Kirara were all jerked out of their sleep at Kagome's scream. Inuyasha had it the worst though. He was right next to her and with his sensitive ears the scream pierced his ears.

Still asleep Kagome brought her hands to her ears and kept on screaming. Inuyasha grabbed her shoulders and tried to shake her awake. “Kagome!” He yelled.

“No, don't!” Kagome screamed. Tears started falling from her eyes and streaked her face. She faintly heard Inuyasha's voice and opened her eyes. “Inuyasha.” She said as she hugged him.

“What the hell happened?” He asked as he rubbed her back in a soothing motion. He was trying to calm her down. Her tears were still coming.

Kagome explained what happened. It took her a while because she was still crying and the tears came even more when she retold the part about the evil aura. “I don't understand how it affected me so much.” Kagome said.

“Well you are a miko. You'll feel things more intensely than others. Your powers are pure and with the amount of evil you felt then it would have a negative affect on you, especially since you haven't been trained.” Miroku explained. When he was taught the ways of Buddha he was taught how to withstand those kinds of auras.

“So you're saying because Kagome is pure and innocent that an evil aura could harm her?” Sango asked.

“Hai, emotionally or physically. Which one I don't know but it could be a combination of both if the aura is strong enough.” Miroku said.

The scent of fear began to mingle with Kagome's original smell. He couldn't stand it. He stood up and took Kagome with him. “We'll be back.” Inuyasha said. He walked away with Kagome in arms.

“I guess that means we can go back to sleep.” Sango said.

“Hai, I'm sure Inuyasha will make Kagome feel much better.” Miroku smiled lecherously.

Sango hit him while shaking her head. “Go to sleep Houshi-sama.” She said as she made her way to her sleeping area.

“Mind if I join you?” Miroku asked.

Sango glared at him and laid down with Kirara beside her.

“Shot down again.” Miroku shook his head in disappointment.

-------------------

Inuyasha kept walking and didn't stop until he was at the nearby river. He sat down with Kagome in his lap. He just wanted to calm Kagome down. He growled lightly when he smelled Shippo nearby.

Taking his chances Shippo ran towards them and jumped into Kagome's lap. “Okaa-san are you okay?” He asked.

“I'll be fine Shippo.” Kagome said.

“Your sure?” Shippo asked.

“I'm sure.”

“Oi runt beat it.” Inuyasha said.

“But I want to stay.” Shippo clung to Kagome's yukata.

“Onegai, Inuyasha let him stay.” Kagome said. “I'd feel better.”

“Fine.” Inuyasha sighed.

“Arigato.” Kagome kissed his cheek.

“Whatever.” Inuyasha said unsatisfied with her kiss. He wanted more but Shippo was there.

I had a dream that I could fly
I can feel each moment as time goes by
We'd never be too far away,
You would always be here, I heard you say

I never thought
Thought that it would be our last goodbye
(our last goodbye.)
I still can dream
That one day love will fall out from the sky

Do you still remember all the time that has gone by?
(do you believe?)
Do you still believe that love can fall out from the sky?
If from where you're standing, you can see the sky above
I'll be waiting for you, if you still believe in love
(do you still believe?)

Find a way to bring back yesterday
Find a way to love
I hope we stay
When tomorrow becomes today
Love will find a way

I'll be waiting for you, in my heart you are the one
If I cannot find you, I will look up to the sun
(do you believe, do you believe?)
If from where you're standing, you can see the sky above
I'll be waiting for you, if you still believe in love

Do you believe?
Do you believe?

Do you still remember all the time that has gone by?
Do you still believe that love can fall out from the sky?
If from where you're standing, you can see the sky above
(do you believe?)
I'll be waiting for you, if you still believe in love

Well hope you like this chapter. Sorry if it seems rushed. I've been kind of out of it. I plan to go back and edit the chapter but I don't know if it will actually happen. I've been busy and currently I'm stuck in a depressed state. Let me know what you think. Ja ne.
