As Sango predicted it was a long journey. Three days they had journeyed following the river like Kouga said. So far they had seen nothing. Inuyasha hadn't smelled any youkai, although it was hard when you didn't know what you were looking for in the first place.

 

The last three days Inuyasha had been in a bad mood. Ever since they left he'd been irritated. He very rarely said anything, only nodding or shaking his head. It had been the same routine since day one. He would leave early in the morning to hunt while Miroku gathered wood. Then later he would get lunch and then dinner in the evening.

 

He pretty much refused to talk to Kagome, which was fine with her. She figured if he was going to be that immature than it wasn't worth trying to talk it out. She would wait for Inuyasha to say something first. She spent her time paying attention to Shippo.

 

Of course that made Inuyasha jealous. He did his best to ignore the extra attention the brat was getting. He was going to have to get over sooner or later. He did tell the kit he was going to help him hunt and do other youkai things that he knew, although just awaking he didn't know much, most of it was instinct.

 

No memories had come since they began their travel. They all thought in their minds that maybe it was a bad idea. None of them would voice it aloud. They didn't want to crush the other's hope if they had any at all. They were getting closer to remembering their pasts yet they were still so far away.

 

Finally the group decided to settle down in a clearing. Inuyasha had been pushing them, making them walk faster and not stopping for a lot of breaks. He just wanted to get where they were going, hoping to forget the whole Kouga situation.

 

After dinner both Kagome and Sango decided to go to the nearby hot springs Shippo had told them about. Their feet were aching from all the walking they had done. “We'll be back. Don't peek.” Sango warned, mostly at the monk.

 

“Keh.” Inuyasha said. He jumped up into a tree and rested.

 

“I would never think of such a thing.” Miroku denied, unsuccessfully.

 

With one last glare from Sango, her, Kagome, and Shippo all walked down to the hot spring. Once they got there they stripped out of their clothing and slowly dipped into the springs.

 

“Ah this feels so good!” Kagome exclaimed.

 

“I feel so much better already.” Sango said. “Inuyasha's been pushing us really hard lately. He's been in such a bad mood since we left Kouga's territory.”

 

“I noticed. He won't even talk to me.” Kagome said. “I wonder what made him so angry.”

 

Sango shook her head at Kagome's naiveté. She was oblivious to the reason why Inuyasha was mad. “He's jealous of course. Kouga has not only touched you but he also kissed you. You also call him Kouga-kun.”

 

“I don't understand why he's so mad about that. It's not like I invited him to do it. Or respond back. He's my friend that's why I call him Kouga-kun.” Kagome said. “Why would that make him mad.”

 

“Are you really oblivious to the fact that Inuyasha likes you?” Sango asked. “He's protective over you. Kouga makes him jealous.”

 

“I don't like Kouga!” Kagome exclaimed. “He just helped us out a lot that's all.”

 

“Inuyasha is a youkai, they see things differently than us humans do.” Sango said. “Ask Shippo, I'm he might know something.”

 

“Ne, Shippo,” Kagome caught his attention. “Why is Inuyasha so jealous of Kouga-kun? He's just a friend. Is it a youkai thing?”

 

“I don't know.” Shippo said nervously. “I'm too young to know about that stuff.”

 

“It seems like your hiding something Shippo.” Kagome said. She and Sango both narrowed their eyes at the obviously lying kitsune.

 

“I really don't know.” Shippo waved his hands. “Really, Inuyasha said he'd teach me.”

 

“Really?” Kagome asked in surprise. “He never told me about that. Well he hasn't really talked to anyone much.”

 

“He told me before we left.” Shippo said. He got out of the water to change into his clothes. The spring was too hot for him. “He's probably just jealous.”

 

Kagome felt there was more to it than that. She left Shippo alone. If he didn't want to talk then that was fine. She'd get the answer somehow. Leaning against the rock she tried to relax. The relaxation was interrupted when a cold voice came from behind them.

 

“What are you doing here?” A cold and deep voice asked.

Inuyasha and Miroku were both sitting quietly, enjoying the silence and warmth of the fire. Suddenly that was interrupted when Shippo came running up the tree Inuyasha was sitting and jumped onto his lap.

 

“What the hell?” Inuyasha asked. He didn't even realize he was there until he felt the weight on his lap.

 

“Okaa-san!” Shippo said breathlessly. “She's...in trouble!”

 

Inuyasha picked Shippo up and put him steadily on the branch. He jumped off the tree and ran towards the hot spring. He could smell a scent that was vaguely familiar to him. He didn't notice it before because of the wind. The scent was unrecognizable.

Kagome and Sango both ducked under the water, covering as much skin as they could. They moved closer to each other and looked up. Standing on the rocks above them was a tall, pale man. He had two pink streaks under each eye. His eyes were gold and he showed no emotion on his face. He was wearing a white kimono with what appeared to be a feather boa around his shoulders. A metal spiked piece of armor covered his left shoulder. On his chest was more armor. He had long beautiful silver hair all the way down to his calves. His ears were pointed at the top.

 

“I'll ask again what are you doing here?” He said in the same cold, deep voice.

 

“How can you ask us something while we're like this?” Kagome screamed showing no fear. She was angry that a stranger came up to her and her friend while they were naked.

 

“Answer the question.” He said holding up a clawed hand.

 

“I won't answer a question while we're like this!” Kagome yelled.

 

“It's inappropriate to just show up while we're relaxing in a hot spring.” Sango added.

 

“I see neither of you are going to comply. How dare you come into my lands and refuse to answer a question.” He said. “This is unforgivable.”

 

“Leave them alone!”

 

Kagome and Sango both turned around to see Inuyasha standing on the shore of the hot spring. Miroku came a couple minutes later, breathless. `Great even more guys looking at us naked.' Both girls thought. They sank into the water even deeper.

 

“Ah, so you didn't die. The rumors were wrong.” The stranger said. “It's been a while Inuyasha.”

 

“What? How the hell do you know me?” Inuyasha asked. He suspected the guy was messing with him.

 

“Have you forgotten about your half brother already? Or did you just disown the family altogether? A worthless hanyou like you could never live up to anything anway.”

 

“Who the hell are you?” Inuyasha growled.

 

“What are you babbling about?”

 

“Ano, do any of you mind that we discuss this after we are dressed?” Sango asked.

 

The guys had all forgotten that the women were in the springs. “Seeing as how you're no threat we can discuss this later when the women are decent.” The stranger said.

 

“I wouldn't mind discussing it here at the hot spring.” Miroku said.

 

“Houshi-sama!” Sango screamed. “Your lucky I'm not dressed!”

 

“We'll wait back at camp then.” Miroku waved as he ran back.

 

Inuyasha waited until the stranger started following Miroku. He leapt of the rocks gracefully and made his way towards their camp. Shortly after Inuyasha followed. He noticed that Kagome's kimono was dirty. He took off his haori and threw it on the ground without turning towards her.

 

“Take this and clean your kimono before coming.” Inuyasha said then walked away.

 

“Well I guess he's not that mad at you.” Sango said.

 

“I'm somehow thinking that that's the least of our problems right now.” Kagome said.

After Kagome and Sango were both dressed they headed back to camp. All three guys were sitting down near the fire. Inuyasha and Miroku were sitting across from the stranger. Shippo was sitting on Inuyasha's shoulder.

 

Kagome walked over with her kimono in hand. She needed to set it near the fire to dry. She tried her best to tie Inuyasha's haori in a kimono shape. It worked pretty well but showed a lot of her legs. From mid thigh down was all bare. She walked over and sat down next to Inuyasha. Sango took her seat next between Kagome and Miroku.

 

“Now that we're all here, I'd like to know why you insist on acting like you don't know me.” The stranger said.

 

“Well we all don't remember anything of what happened. We've been traveling to regain our memories but nothing helpful has come up.” Kagome explained.

 

“So you remember nothing of me?” The stranger asked.

 

“We just said no.” Inuyasha said. “Just who the hell are you anyway?”

 

“I am Sesshomaru, lord of the Western Lands, your half brother.” He said as he looked to Inuyasha.

 

“What?” Inuyasha said.

 

“Your royalty?” Shippo asked him. He crawled from Inuyasha's shoulder to Kagome's lap.

 

“Our father was a great Inu Youkai, Toga of the Western Lands.” Sesshomaru said. “Your mother was, Izayoi, a very respected lady.”

 

“What do you mean was?” Inuyasha asked.

 

“They both died when you were young. The details aren't important.” Sesshomaru explained.

 

“I think he's telling the truth. You do look a lot alike.” Kagome said. “You both have the same hair color, eyes, and skin color.”

 

“Most inu youkai have silver colored hair and amber colored eyes.” Sesshomaru said. “I'm sure Inuyasha can smell the similarities in our scents.”

 

“He's right.” Inuyasha said. “Where the hell have you been since all this started?”

 

“Since what started?” Sesshomaru asked.

 

The group then explained to Sesshomaru what happened. He seemed trustworthy enough. He was also the only other person besides Kouga that they knew in the past.

 

“Ah I see.” Sesshomaru said.

 

“Do you know of any battles we were going to fight?” Inuyasha asked. “Anything that would explain the memory loss?”

 

“No, I know you had an enemy of some kind. You were too proud to ask for any help.” Sesshomaru said.

 

“Well I guess that leads us to another dead end.” Kagome sighed and yawned.

 

“It's getting late.” Sesshomaru stood. “If you want you can stay at the castle. It's better than sleeping outdoors.”

 

“Arigato for your offer.” Kagome said.

 

“This will give us a chance to talk more.” Sesshomaru said to Inuyasha. He could tell he was hesitant about going. “You no longer have to be on guard around me. We don't fight like we used to.”

 

“What?” Inuyasha asked.

 

“I'll tell you that another time. It looks as if your intended mate is tired.” Sesshomaru said.

 

“Intended mate?” Kagome asked.

Ooh cliffhanger. Well to all of you who have been dying to know when Kagome will find out about the mark that will be in the next chapter as well as some of Inuyasha's past. Sesshomaru is now introduced to the fic. He's really OOC. He'll still have the cold and emotionless attitude but he's not as hostile towards Inuyasha. They're not on friendly terms but they don't hate each other. There won't be any major fighting scenes between them either. Sorry to the fans who liked that. I think this way fits more with the fic. I'm on a roll on updating for this fic. I really like this one so that's probably why I keep writing. No more writer's block on this fic, at least for the moment anyway. Hopefully this fic keeps you guessing and surprised. That's what I was going for. If not I you're your at least enjoying it. Well hope you like this chapter. Let me know what you think!
