Later that night when everyone was asleep, Kagome slowly untangled herself from Inuyasha and Shippo. She moved Inuyasha's arm from around her waist and made sure she didn't push Shippo. Quietly she snuck out of the hut and walked to the river. She was thankful that everyone decided to sleep inside the hut.

 

When she got to the river she laid down and looked at the stars. She couldn't sleep at all. She couldn't help but think of what happened to her family. Who would go after them? Was it because of her?

 

She closed her eyes for a few moments in an attempt to keep the tears from falling. When she opened them she saw Inuyasha looking down at her. She sat up and turned to him. “I thought you were asleep.” She said as she wiped the tears that slipped from her eyes.

 

“Keh, I don't sleep.” He said as he sat down.

 

“You do too.” Kagome said.

 

“Not fully.” Inuyasha said. “I have to stay on guard, besides it would've been hard to sleep with all the noise and movement you made.”

 

“Gomen, I thought I was quiet.” Kagome said.

 

“You were but I'm a youkai remember.” He said as he pointed to his ears. “What are you doing out here anyway?”

 

“I couldn't sleep. Before all this happened I used to come outside and lay on the grass to clear my mind.” Kagome said.

 

“I know it'll be hard but try not to think about what happened so much.” Inuyasha pulled her close.

 

“I can't help it.” Kagome's voice broke. “They were all I had.”

 

“You still have me.” Inuyasha said. He leaned down and licked the tears away. He leaned down and lightly kissed her lips.

 

Kagome took whatever comfort he was offering. She was grateful for having him. In his arms she felt safe, happy, and even loved, even if neither felt that way towards the other it was how she felt. She didn't even know how she felt towards Inuyasha.

 

Since the day they first met she never really thought of him as more than a friend. Any time those thoughts came up she quickly pushed them away. How could she love someone in such little time and under the hard circumstances they were in? She wasn't even sure if he wanted to form more of a relationship with her.

 

At times when her mind ran free she did think he might've. He did mark her after all, but he could've been in the heat of the moment. She could never gather enough courage to ask him. She didn't want to lose him as a friend because of her stupid questions. She would have to ask him sometime or it would drive her crazy.

 

Was he kissing her because he was driven by lust or does he like her? She couldn't ever tell. She was naïve when it came to stuff like that. She was never good at reading people. Lots of people told her she was too kind and would one day be taken advantage of because of that.

 

Her thoughts were interrupted when she felt the cool of the grass beneath her. When did they end up in this position? Again her thoughts were interrupted when Inuyasha coaxed her lips open with his tongue.

 

She melted into the kiss and allowed his tongue entrance. They were both lost in the kiss. It started out gentle and turned passionate. Neither of them realized as Inuyasha's hands made their way to different places on her body, one on her thigh and the other inching closer to her breast.

 

Inuyasha released her lips in favor of her neck. They both needed air but he didn't want to lose her taste. He lightly kissed her neck occasionally nipping her skin every once in a while. All coherent thoughts left his mind as he melted into the warmth of the one beneath him.

 

Kagome was finally awakened from the dizzying pleasure she was feeling when Inuyasha's hand reached her breast. Suddenly all rational thought came back to her. She couldn't do this. Not after her family had been murdered. She felt selfish for feeling all this pleasure when she should be mourning her family.

 

“Inuyasha.” She said. “I can't do this.”

 

Inuyasha quickly sat up and looked at her. He let his instincts take over again. “Sorry.” He said as he helped her sit up. Again he let his instincts run wild. If Kagome hadn't stopped him there was no telling how far he would've gone.

 

“It's okay.” Kagome said as she turned from him and fixed her hair. “I can't do this now. Not after what happened.”

 

“I didn't mean to go so far. I just wanted to comfort you.” Inuyasha said. He had no idea what he could say. “I didn't mean to take advantage of you.”

 

“You didn't.” Kagome reassured him. It was half her fault for losing herself. “Inuyasha...”

 

“What?” He turned to her. She wasn't looking at him. She had her back to him.

 

“Do you...Do you think of me only as a friend?” Kagome asked finally gathering enough courage to ask.

 

“No, I've always wanted more of you.” Inuyasha said. “We wouldn't be in this situation if I didn't.”

 

“I didn't think you wanted to be more than just friends...” Kagome said.

 

Inuyasha wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her flush against him so her back was to his chest. He moved the hair away from her neck and kissed his mark. “I wouldn't have marked you as my mate if I didn't want more. Instincts don't act only on lust. There has to be some feeling behind it to make it react like it does. I wasn't just trying to satisfy my needs.” He explained. “What about you?”

 

“I...I never really thought about it. Any time it came to mind I pushed it away. There was too much going on and I was thinking about too many things at once, I didn't want to confuse myself.” Kagome explained. She turned bright red and tried to cover her face more with her hair. “I do want to be more than friends. I always thought we were since I found out about the mark...”

 

“Then we'll take things slowly. I don't want to rush you or anything.” Inuyasha said. “Let me know if I'm pushing your or moving too fast like you did earlier. I'm part youkai so I can't control all of my instincts all of the time. It gets hard when I can smell your scent so well.”

 

“My scent?” Kagome asked. She turned her head so Inuyasha could have better access to her neck.

 

“Your scent smells so sweet. It's distracting.” Inuyasha said as he kissed his mark again. “Do you mind being mates?”

 

“Not really.” Kagome said shyly. “You're the only person other than my family that I got close to. That I know of anyway.”

 

“I didn't mean to mark you. My instincts took over and all I noticed was your scent.” Inuyasha said. “We should get back. You need to get some sleep.”

 

“I don't think I can fall asleep.” Kagome said. “I want to stay here a little longer with you.”

 

Inuyasha smiled and leaned down on his back taking Kagome with him. He flipped her over so that she was facing him. She blushed and laid her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat. She was soon lulled to sleep by the steady rhythm.

The next morning Inuyasha was awoken by a thud sound. He looked up and saw Sango looking angrily at something beside him. He noticed it was Miroku. “What the hell happened to him?” Inuyasha said quietly so Kagome wouldn't wake.

 

“He made an obnoxious comment.” Sango glared at the monk.

 

“I was only making an observation.” Miroku said innocently.

 

“You'll regret meeting me if you wake Kagome up.” Inuyasha growled. “She's got enough going on right now she doesn't need to be woken up by your stupid perverted comments!”

 

“Hai, I understand. We just came to find out where you went.” Miroku said.

 

“Now that we found you we'll go back and cook breakfast.” Sango said. “I'm sure Kagome will want to leave quickly so as not to be flooded by memories.”

 

“Yeah, yeah just leave so she doesn't wake up while your still here.” Inuyasha said. Miroku and Sango left just in time. Kagome started wiggling around to get more comfortable but woke up when Inuyasha stilled her movements. “Don't.”

 

“Don't what?” Kagome asked as she sat up not realizing the position they were in.

 

“Don't move.” Inuyasha said although it was too late.

 

“Why can't I move?” Kagome asked. She was unaware of what she was doing to him.

 

“Never mind.” Inuyasha rolled his eyes. He sniffed the air. “Sango is making breakfast.”

 

“Great! I'm hungry.” She said.

 

“That's because you didn't much yesterday.” Inuyasha stood up with her.

 

“I wasn't hungry.” Kagome said.

 

“It doesn't matter. Just eat well today.” Inuyasha grabbed her hand and led the way to the hut.

After eating Kagome said goodbye to her home and family. She did her best not to cry but couldn't help it. The last few tears fell from her eyes as they began their trip back to Sesshomaru's castle.

 

“I wonder if Sesshomaru found any information about Kaede.” Miroku said.

 

“Who knows?” Inuyasha said. “It's not like we could tell him where to look. We don't know crap about our past's so I don't see how we're going to be able to figure anything out.”

 

“We're doing good so far.” Kagome said.

 

“It doesn't really matter to me if we find out what happened or not.” Inuyasha said.

 

Kagome walked closer to him so they could talk in private. “Really? Why not? Doesn't it bother you just a little bit?” She asked.

 

“Not really. I found my half brother and I have you.” Inuyasha said. “I don't really need anything else.”

 

“Oi! What about me?” Shippo asked as he jumped on Inuyasha's shoulders.

 

“You were supposed to be sleeping runt.” Inuyasha growled lightly.

 

“I couldn't sleep while you guys were talking.” Shippo said.

 

“He's glad he has you too Shippo.” Kagome smiled.

 

“Really?” Shippo asked looking down at him from on top of his head.

 

“Yeah.” Inuyasha sighed. “Who wouldn't want an annoying little runt bothering them every five seconds?”

 

“I don't bother you every five seconds!” Shippo shouted in defense.

 

“That's true your usually sleeping most of the time.” Inuyasha snorted.

 

“Baka!” Shippo yelled as he bit Inuyaha's ear.

 

“Why you little...” Inuyasha chased Shippo around Kagome as she continued to walk.

 

“What am I going to do with you two?” Kagome sighed to herself.

Hope you guys like this chapter. There was some sadness in the last chapter so I thought the little fluff moment between Inuyasha and Kagome would bring a little bit of happiness. Let me know what you think!
