Awaken
Chapter 32
Deceit

Early in the morning Kagome woke up later than everyone else. The dreams and memories were more exhausting for her. As soon as she awoke she got up and walked out of the hut without a word. Miroku and Sango exchanged a look and then looked as Inuyasha stood and followed her.

“I see.” Kaede said. Kagome had just explained what happened that night. “It may be a lot to hear but I guess it needs to be said.”

“What?” Kagome asked.

“I didn't want to tell you just yet but seeing as how circumstances have changed...” Kaede began to explain. “You are a miko, unlike other mikos you are much stronger. With you lies a great power that can be extracted. It won't lessen your powers but it will materialize and give power to whoever possesses it. It is something that can be either good or evil depending on the user, human or youkai. The only way it will lay dormant is if you possess it. Your power keeps it purified and will only act out on your emotions and wishes.”

“What is it exactly?” Kagome asked.

“It's called the Shikon no Tama.” Kaede said.

“Jewel of Four Souls? Why do I have it?”

“My older sister Kikyo was the last protector of the Shikon no Tama. It is tradition to burn it with your body when you pass away. After that the Shikon no Tama disappears for a while before reappearing into another powerful miko. So far you are the most powerful.” Kaede explained. “Kikyo's powers were nothing compared to yours.”

“How do you know all of this? How are you so sure I have it?” Kagome asked.

“The Shikon no Tama gives a vibe that's different from your power. It is hard to notice it unless you intentionally reveal it. It is noticeable now though...” Kaede said.

“I guess the voice was right.” Kagome stood. “The information was very helpful Kaede-sama.”

“Be careful Kagome. Things now will be much more difficult.” Kaede said sadly. “It is unfortunate that you must carry this burden, but remember you're not alone.”

Kagome smiled weakly and left the hut. “Did you find out what you needed?”

Kagome jumped as she gasped in surprise. “How long have you been there?” She asked.

Inuyasha stood from his spot against the wall of the hut. “The whole time. I was going to go in but I thought it was a serious conversation for you two.” He said.

“Guess I have a lot more to worry about now.” Kagome sighed.

“Kaede-baba was right though. We're here for you.” Inuyasha said.

“It's my burden.” Kagome said.

Inuyasha grabbed her hand and squeezed it. “You're my mate remember. I'm supposed to take care of you. Besides you don't know how to use your miko powers.” He said.

“I wish there was somehow I could learn.” Kagome said.

“Maybe it will come to you as another memory.” Inuyasha said. “Maybe it will be instincts like with youkai. Anyway breakfast is ready and Shippo is whining for you.”

“He's awake now?” Kagome giggled. “He sure does sleep a lot.”

“I told you that last night and what did you say? `He's growing and needs his sleep.'” Inuyasha mocked.

Kagome slapped his chest. “He does! Let's go eat.”

-------------------

After breakfast Kagome, Sango, and Shippo went to the river nearby to take a bath. Shippo was mostly there to let the girls know whether or not the guys were coming. Since their baths took so long Inuyasha and Miroku said they would go get them. Both Kagome and Sango rolled their eyes at them. They knew they couldn't be alone long.

“They're coming.” Shippo said as he swam on his back towards Kagome.

“Thanks Shippo!” Kagome said.

They quickly got out of the river and changed into their clothes. Kaede had let the girls borrow some clothing. She only had a miko outfit and a kimono. Kagome offered to take the miko outfit since she was a miko. As soon as they had changed the guys came into view.

“Don't you think you should've called out to us?” Sango yelled at Miroku.

“I thought with Shippo there you wouldn't need us to.” Miroku smiled. “It would've been nice if he hadn't joined you though...”

“You are going to be the death of me...” Sango shook her head.

“We weren't even here that long.” Kagome said.

“Long enough.” Inuyasha said. “Besides we'd like to bathe every once in a while too.”

“Fine, we'll go back to the hut then.” Kagome said.

“Are you sure you wouldn't want to stay and join us?” Miroku asked. His smile was wiped away when Sango smacked the back of his head. “Itai, Sango, My love, that hurts.”

“I'm aware of that.” Sango glared at him. “Come on Kagome.”

“I'm going to stay with them!” Shippo said as he jumped back into the river.

Inuyasha grabbed Kagome's arm. “You look nice.” He said as he let go and walked closer to the river.

Kagome blushed and joined Sango on their walk back to the hut. She looked back at Inuyasha once more before leaving view. He smirked at her and pulled off his haori. Kagome blushed even more before quickly turning around. `He did that on purpose!' She thought.

“Is something wrong?” Sango asked.

“Huh? No, lets go for a walk instead of going to the hut. I'm tired of staying inside.” Kagome smiled.

“Okay!” Sango said. They turned into the forest area instead of the hut.

After walking a while they decided to sit down. “I hate to admit it but it feels good to get away from the guys.” Sango smiled happily.

“I know what you mean.” Kagome giggled. She gasped when she recognized an aura. She couldn't figure out who it was but it was someone she knew.

“Nice to see you again Kagome.”

“Naraku!” Kagome said as he appeared from a cloud in front of her and Sango.

“That's Naraku?” Sango asked. She didn't like him. Something about him was...creepy.

“I haven't seen you in a while so I thought I'd visit.” Naraku smiled.

“That's nice Naraku but I was talking to Sango.” Kagome tried to say as nicely as she could.

“That's no way to treat me. I don't see you often and this is the first time your away from that protective hanyou.” Naraku frowned slightly.

“You've been watching me?” Kagome asked.

“Of course. How else would I insure you're alone?” Naraku asked.

“I can't believe this! That's stalking!” Kagome shouted. She stood up and put her hands on her hips. Sango also joined her.

“Stalking? You're my childhood friend.” Naraku smiled mischievously.

“We've recovered many memories and I haven't seen you in any of them.” Kagome studied him carefully to see if he was really lying or not. “Besides Kouga, Kaede-sama, and some enemy my friends and I are the only ones in the memory.”

“I assure you I was in one of your memories...” Naraku trailed off to wait for her reaction.

“So then...you're the enemy?” Kagome shouted and stepped back. “You're the one who did all of this?”

“I did nothing. You're the ones who brought this on yourself. If you weren't protecting the Shikon no Tama I could have it and you could be living relatively peaceful lives. If you would've given it up when I asked for it this never would have happened.” Naraku said.

“You're blaming this on us?” Sango shouted. “You have no right!”

“I have every right! If you would have just given me the jewel nothing would've happened.” Naraku said.

“This is ridiculous! I don't even want to protect the jewel!” Kagome shouted.

“Then give it to me.” Naraku said.

“No, you would do something much worse!” Kagome shouted.

“How would you know if you don't even have all your memories?” Naraku asked. “For all you know I could've been the ones to save you all.”

“It doesn't matter! You've been watching her all this time for an opportunity to get the jewel! Why should we trust you anyway?” Sango shouted. “You can't have it! Kagome may not want the jewel but she won't just give it to you!”

“Sango's right I have a responsibility.” Kagome said sadly. “Just leave.”

“No, I came for the jewel and I will get it this time. There's no hiding from me this time. You managed to get away last time I attacked.” Naraku said angrily. “I will possess the jewel!”

Suddenly Naraku held up his right hand and purple miasma came out of his sleeves. He smiled as Kagome and Sango coughed and fell to the ground. “Don't breathe...it in...” Sango coughed as she covered her mouth with her hand.

“Inu...yasha...” Kagome muttered before falling to the ground.

-------------------

Inuyasha had just barely started to relax when he smelled a familiar scent. He didn't know who it was only that he recognized it. He stood from his seat on the rock and sniffed the air more carefully. He realized that the scent was near Kagome. Running out of the water he quickly pulled his pants on leaving his shirt behind to follow Kagome's scent.

When he got to the forest area where Kagome was he almost snapped. Kagome was on the ground with some guy hovering above her with his hands moving up and down her waist. His hands were moving all over her body and Inuyasha growled.

“What the fuck do you think your doing?” Inuyasha growled violently. He quickly ran over to Kagome after he had moved.

“I'm merely collecting what is mine.” He said.

“Stay the fuck away from her!” Inuyasha picked her up and backed away so that he was near Sango.

“I'll be back. My patience is growing thin so I'd be careful if I were you, hanyou.” He said irritably. He soon disappeared in a cloud.

Inuyasha gently shook Kagome to wake her. “Kagome wake up!” He shouted.

Kagome moaned and looked at him. “Inuyasha?” She said. “What happened? Where's Sango?”

“Sango is right next to us.” Inuyasha said. “What the hell happened?”

“We-” Kagome began but was cut off when Miroku and Shippo ran into the area panting.

“Sango!” Miroku shouted and ran to her despite his exhaustion. “What happened?”

“If you hadn't interrupted Kagome would've been able to explain.” Inuyasha said in an annoyed tone.

“We came here because we were tired of staying in the hut. Naraku came. He's the one who wants the jewel! He's our enemy!” Kagome began to cry. “He lied to me and he's the one who did this.”

Inuyasha's annoyed expression softened and he embraced her. “It's alright.” He said in a soothing voice and rubbed her back. “Let's get back to the hut.”

Miroku nodded and picked Sango up in his arms. Shippo jumped onto Inuyasha's shoulder and into Kagome's lap. She embraced him as she continued to cry.

Sorry I didn't update earlier. I couldn't remember if the group had seen Naraku or not. I'm so bad at remembering things and I've written so many fics that I got confused. ><. I always forget. Hope you like it. Let me know what you think.
