Chapter 40
Fun and Scheming

One week, one whole week and Kagome still hadn't gotten her voice back. There was no sign of the one who stole her voice or anything. Inuyasha was starting to get angry. Not because she couldn't talk but because she moped around even more than before. Her fever had gone down but she was still weak from loss of appetite. She barely ate anything at all and just walked around the castle with a blank expression on her face.

Everyone was worried but nothing they had tried worked. Even Shippo had trouble trying to cheer her up. Eventually he gave up and moped around with Kagome. Sitting in her arms, still seeking comfort. At the moment Kagome was sitting outside in the gardens with Shippo in her lap, looking up at the sky.

Inuyasha walked outside with Sesshomaru, Miroku, and Sango. They all wanted to check how she was. Each day her mood seemed to grow sadder. “Kagome.” Inuyasha called out to her.

Kagome looked at him and smiled weakly. She stood up and walked towards him until she heard singing. She recognized the voice as her and looked towards the gate. It was coming from the forest. She set Shippo down on the ground and ran towards her voice.

“Kagome!” Inuyasha called out before chasing after her.

“Isn't that Kagome's voice?” Sango asked.

“I've never heard her sing but I do believe that is her voice.” Sesshomaru said. He also went into the forest but he walked instead.

“Let's go.” Miroku said and both him and Sango chased after everyone.

-------------------

Kagome came upon a clearing. There was a girl that was standing there. She looked human, no youkai features at all, except her bright purple eyes. She was wearing a white kimono with purple embroidery that went down just above her knees. She had brown hair down to her shoulders. She was about her height and was standing straight with her hands behind her back.

“So I finally get to meet you.” The girl smiled. “We'll wait for your friends before I introduce myself.

After a minute or so everyone gathered behind Kagome, looking at the girl. “Now that you're all here I'll introduce myself. My name is Mika.” She bowed.

Without even thinking Kagome yelled out `You're the one who stole my voice'. She was so angry she forgot that she couldn't speak. “Hai, I am the one who took your voice.” She said.

Kagome stepped back the girl could hear her event though she couldn't speak. Inuyasha stood next to her pulling out the tetsusaiga. It changed itself into the form of a fang. He saw Kagome's questioning look and looked towards Mika. Then he realized that Mika knew what Kagome was going to say.

“How did you know Kagome said something?” Inuyasha asked.

Mika giggled and sat down on the ground cross-legged. “Well I'm the one who took her voice so when she speaks I can hear her even if you can't.” She smiled.

`Why did you take it?' Kagome asked.

“Well I was asked to lure you out here but that was three days ago I was supposed to do that. I only do what I feel like.” Mika explained. “Some guy named Naraku asked me to bait you in for one of his plans, but I told him that I only do what I feel like if I feel like it.”

`Then why did you take my voice but not do as Naraku asked?' Kagome wondered.

“I think your friends are confused. She asked `Why did I take her voice but not do as Naraku asked?'. I unlike other youkai don't like hurting anyone or anything. So before I did something he wants I wanted to make sure no one was to get hurt. He didn't seem like a nice guy so I wanted to meet this Kagome girl before I did anything. Besides I was bored and wanted to have a little fun.” Mika giggled. “Sorry but this is fun.”

“Then will you give her voice back?” Sesshomaru asked. “She is no threat and as you said you don't like hurting others. You have caused us all a great deal of frustration.”

“Of course.” Mika smiled. “Naraku thinks I'm going to listen to him and I'm not.”

Then Mika stood up and put a hand to her throat. A blue orb appeared in the palm of her hand. She walked over to Kagome and let the blue orb go into her throat. She then whispered something in her ear and waved before skipping into the forest. After they were sure she was gone they circled around Kagome.

“Can you talk?” Inuyasha asked.

“I think so.” Kagome said in a raspy voice. She put her hand on her throat. It was soar. “I think I need some water.”

“Well that was rather annoying.” Sesshomaru said. “I'll have some water brought to your room. It's fixed by the way.”

“Thanks.” Kagome smiled, despite her raspy voice and soar throat.

“Was that your voice singing?” Inuyasha asked.

“Uh...hai.” Kagome blushed. Even if it wasn't her directly it was still her voice.

“It was beautiful.” Inuyasha smiled, he leaned towards her and kissed her on the lips.

“I don't think they're aware that we are still present.” Miroku coughed loudly trying to get their attention.

“I think not.” Sango giggled. “Let's leave them alone then.”

“Shall we have some fun of our own then?” Miroku asked but was further silenced when Sango hit him on the head.

Kagome pushed on Inuyasha's chest and looked around. She had just barely remembered Sango and Miroku were there. “You did that on purpose didn't you?” Kagome asked, her throat still sore.

Inuyasha smirked and wrapped his arms around her in a tight hug. “I wasn't lying when I said you had a beautiful voice.” He said with a hint of amusement in his voice.

“We should go back” Kagome said and coughed.

Inuyasha nodded and picked her up bridal style. Before running to the castle he whispered in her ear. “I'm glad you got your voice back.”

-------------------

“Shippo!” Kagome said happily and hugged him when he jumped into her arms.

“You got your voice back!” Shippo shouted in excitement.

“You waited here?” Kagome asked.

“Hai! Because you told me to stay last time.” Shippo smiled.

“That's great Shippo.” Kagome smiled.

“Oi, she needs to rest her voice. Let's go inside so you can get some water.” Inuyasha grabbed her hand and led them inside.

Once they got into the room Kagome drank the whole pitcher of water that was left there for her. She sighed before sitting down on the bed. “I guess this means we can go see Kaede-sama.” She said happily. That was the thing she was most upset about while her voice was gone. Having to wait for it to come back and delaying their journey to see Kaede and ask her some questions.

“We'll wait until your voice is better. Just because you got it back doesn't mean you're well enough to go. You barely got over your fever with all of the moping around you did.” Inuyasha replied.

“I'm fine now. Tomorrow my voice should be completely fine.” Kagome reassured him.

“We'll wait.” Inuyasha said. “You haven't eaten a proper meal in days.”

“I wasn't hungry.” Kagome pouted. “Besides I got my voice back and I don't have a fever anymore. The faster I find out about the jewel the faster I can do something about it.”

“It doesn't you'll have to wait.” Inuyasha crossed his arms, signaling there was no more room for talk.

Kagome sighed and leaned back on the bed. “You'd let me go wouldn't you Shippo?” She asked.

“Don't try to get him on your side!” Inuyasha growled lightly.

“Otou-san is right. You should get better first.” Shippo said crossing his arms from on her stomach.

“Everyone's against me.” Kagome sighed again and rolled over onto her side while catching Shippo as he rolled off of her stomach. She wrapped her arms around him.

“We're not against you.” Inuyasha said and laid down beside her, on his side and wrapped his arms around her. “We worry about you.”

“I'm fine.” Kagome said again. She removed Inuyasha's arms from around her sat up. “I'm going to see how Rin is.”

Without another word she left the room. “Shouldn't we go with her?” Shippo asked.

“No, leave her by herself for a while.” Inuyasha sighed. “Let's go get something to eat.”

“Hai!” Shippo jumped onto Inuyasha's shoulder. “Good job agreeing with me.”

-------------------

Kagome knocked on Sesshomaru's bedroom door. She knew Rin was in there, Sesshomaru rarely let her out and that was only when she was threatening because she would leave unattended once he turned his back. She almost laughed thinking about how overprotective Sesshomaru was. His image didn't fit someone who was as caring as he really was. It's funny how people pass judgment so quickly.

Sesshomaru answered the door and let her in. He didn't even have to ask why she was there. She wouldn't have come without Inuyasha if she really needed anything. “Rin's sitting in the chair by the window.” He said and closed the door behind her.

“How are you holding up Rin?” Kagome asked with a smile.

“I'm going to die if this baby stays in me any longer.” Rin halfheartedly giggled.

“I think you have a long way to go.” Kagome laughed. Rin was barely showing anything, if she even was. The yukatas she wore showed nothing of any extra weight.

“How have you been? You've obviously gotten your voice back.” Rin smiled.

“Hai. My throat is a little sore but its not too bad. The only problem now is getting Inuyasha to let me go see Kaede-sama.” Kagome said. “I've been waiting over a week to be able to go, first the fever and then my voice. He won't let me go until he's absolutely sure I'm fine.”

“He is your mate so its not surprising he'd be overprotective.” Rin said. “Maybe we could arrange for you to leave without him knowing.”

“What do you mean?” Kagome asked.

“Sess?” She called out to him.

Sesshomaru walked over to her from the comfort of his chair. “What is it?” He asked. He'd heard the conversation and wasn't looking forward to what she was going to ask.

“Do you think we could somehow get Kagome to Kaede's village without Inuyasha knowing? At least for a while?” Rin asked sweetly.

“There is...but Inuyasha would be furious.” Sesshomaru said.

“Don't you like frustrating your younger brother?” Rin asked.

“Half-brother. I do like making him angry but this...this is his mate. He'll be more than furious.” Sesshomaru said.

“I do want to know about the jewel but I think this will be testing Inuyasha's limits.” Kagome said.

“Let's test his patience.” Sesshomaru said. “I am curious to see what his reaction would be. I can arrange for a ride with Ah and Un. If they don't stop you can make it there by morning. They are quite fast.”

“But-” Kagome began.

“Don't worry Inuyasha won't be too mad.” Rin said. “I'm sure he'll find out almost right after you leave.”

“In the air with Ah and Un there won't be any dangers except for weather and it should be fine.” Sesshomaru said.

“I guess...I do want to do something by myself.” Kagome stood up. “Since weather is my only danger I guess I'll go.”

“I'll have a servant pack plenty of food, water, and any other supplies you may need for your trip.” Sesshomaru left the room.

“Thanks for helping Rin.” Kagome smiled. “Who's Ah and Un?”

“They are Sesshomaru traveling two-headed dragon. They are fast if they are traveling in the air.” Rin explained. “They are very sweet. They don't need to rest as much either.”

Sesshomaru walked back into the room. “Everything will be prepared in a few minutes. Follow me to Ah and Un's stable.”

“Hai, Rin do you think you could tell Inuyasha not to worry when he finds out?” Kagome asked. Rin nodded. “Thanks Rin!”

Sesshomaru led Kagome to a room opposite of the hallway of his room. He opened the door and let her in before shutting it behind him. “Why are we going in this room?” Kagome asked. He said that Ah and Un were in a stable and this obviously wasn't a stable.

“If we were to casually walk downstairs Inuyasha would notice and come get you. Him and Shippo are eating in the dining room. It's much easier to jump down from the balcony.” Sesshomaru explained as they reached the balcony. He wrapped an arm around her waist and without warning jumped to the ground.

Kagome put her hand over her mouth to stop her screaming. She'd never get used to people suddenly drop from such heights without warning. Sesshomaru released her and walked further behind the castle to a little hut. “Ah, Un.” He called.

Seconds later a large two-headed dragon appeared from inside the stable. It was almost the same height as her maybe a little smaller. The dragon was brown with yellow eyes. It had a long tail dragging on the ground. It had reigns and a saddle. It seemed to be nice. Kagome had never seen a youkai like this before.

“This is Ah and Un. They will not stop until they've arrived at their destination unless the weather proves to be too horrible which then they will stop once they find a covered area to wait it out. They won't need any rest, food, or water. They will return once you're safely at Kaede's hut.” Sesshomaru explained. “Other than that just keep seated and hold onto the reigns if they go to fast for you.”

“Thanks a lot Sesshomaru. I hope Inuyasha doesn't get too mad at you, if he does tell him it's my fault.” Kagome smiled.

“I'll be sure to do that.” Sesshomaru said. He helped Kagome get on Ah and Un's back. He told the two-headed dragon where to go and they nodded. Moments later a servant appeared with a traveling bag and handed it to Sesshomaru. He hooked it onto the saddle and stood back. “If there are any problems tell Ah and Un to come back. Have a safe trip.”

“Thanks!” Kagome waved as Ah and Un took to the air.

As soon as she was out of sight Sesshomaru jumped up to the balcony and back into his room. Rin was sitting on the bed waiting for him. He couldn't help but think that maybe this was a mistake but he had nothing to fear. Even if Inuyasha's anger was at his fullest, no harm could be done. He'd be too worried about his mate to bother with him. Kagome on the other hand, he wasn't so sure...

This chapter is a little bit longer than usual but not by much. I've been swamped by a lot of things. I thought I'd add some trouble. Besides Kagome's always the helpless dense miko woman so I thought I'd have her take some initiative. Plus I have another idea in mind but you won't find that out until later. Hehe. Hope you like it. Let me know what you think!

Oh and for those of you who asked. Oyaji- a rude way of saying father or dad. Sorry I always forgot to add that at the end of the chapter.
