Chapter 41
Anger and Silence
“SHE WHAT?” Inuyasha yelled so loud it could be heard throughout the whole castle.
“Calm yourself.” Sesshomaru said. “She wanted to go see Kaede and was tired of waiting for you.”
“She's going to get it.” Inuyasha started walking out of the castle.
“Inuyasha don't you think your overreacting? She left for good reason you know.” Sesshomaru said.
“What reason? There's no reason good enough for her to just up and leave like that!” Inuyasha growled.
“She's tired of relying on you. You've already been hurt for her sake plenty of times. It's going to hurt her after a while even if you can heal within hours.” Sesshomaru said. “Besides she won't reach the village until morning and there are no threats with Ah and Un. They will protect her if anything were too happen which there shouldn't be any problems.”
“It doesn't matter! She still left without telling me!” Inuyasha turned back around and headed out of the castle. “I'm going after her!”
Sesshomaru shook his head and headed back to his room. Inuyasha wouldn't listen to any logic as long as his mate was involved but he seemed to get through to him a little bit. He wasn't walking as angrily as he was earlier. No need to worry, Kagome would be able to deal with him in her own way. She was as stubborn as he was at times and she already softened his heart enough, he would melt at the sound of her voice if that were her intention.
Inuyasha met Miroku and Sango on his way out. “Where are you going Inuyasha?” Miroku asked.
“Kagome went to Kaede's village on her own.” Inuyasha said angrily.
“What? How would she have gotten there?” Sango asked.
“Sesshomaru helped her.” Inuyasha growled.
“Why would she do such a thing?” Miroku wondered.
“Probably because of that dream.” Sango said.
“Dream?” Inuyasha asked.
“Hai, you remember. She snapped at you and ever since then she's been depressed. It makes sense that she'd leave without you since you were both together in her dream she probably thinks that if your with her you'll get hurt.” Sango explained.
“I'm her fucking mate. She can't just stay away from me!” Inuyasha growled.
“At least try not to yell at her. She has been having a rough time since we've gotten some of our memories back. Her burden is much worse than ours is.” Miroku said. “Having her mate yell at her for what she did may only make things worse.”
Inuyasha just growled before leaving. “I guess he won't listen. Shall we accompany them then?” Miroku asked.
“Well we were planning on joining them anyway.” Sango replied. “I'll go get Kirara.”
-------------------------------------------------
Kagome finally arrived at Kaede's village. She was exhausted but she finally made it. Her feet touched the ground and she patted Ah and Un on the head, thanking them before the two-headed dragon took flight again. She walked over to Kaede's hut to greet her. She was outside sitting in front of the hut cutting weeds.
“Ah Kagome, how nice of you to come by.” Kaede smiled. She looked around noticed she was alone. “No Inuyasha?”
“Ah...no I left without him. He doesn't know I left. Well he probably knows now.” Kagome said and sat down beside her.
“Did you need something?” Kaede asked.
“Hai, last time we were here we didn't get to talk much. I'm curious about the jewel.” Kagome asked. “It bothers me...”
“I take it that's why you came alone.” Kaede said. “Did something happen?”
“Well I had a bad dream a while ago and I'm worried about it.” Kagome said. She then explained what had happened since she had the dream. “I don't know what to make of it.”
“Well since you are a powerful miko your dreams maybe significant. There's no guarantee, it may just be your emotions.” Kaede explained. “The Shikon no Tama, I'm afraid I don't have much information on it.”
“Please tell me what you know.” Kagome said.
“As I said my elder sister Kikyo was the last protector of the jewel. She was the most powerful miko at the time and the village where the jewel was created gave it to her for protection. Only a miko can purify the jewel even if it's tainted with evil. It is said that the jewel can grant a wish and then it will disappear but it's only a rumor.” Kaede explained. “But the wish must be pure and have no selfishness at all or it will once again become tainted.”
“I see.” Kagome said. “How am I supposed to get it out of my body?”
“It's best to stay within you. Then it will be harder to sense. The only way to remove the jewel is by force and it will be painful.” Kaede informed her.
“Oh.” Kagome lowered her head.
“A great burden is placed upon you but you will be able to protect the jewel. You have strong allies.” Kaede smiled in reassurance. “The very proof is the presence of the jewel itself.”
“Can you tell me where the village is? Maybe they know more.” Kagome asked.
“That village was destroyed. That's why they gave the jewel to Kikyo, they were afraid for their lives.” Kaede said. “No one knows where the villagers went. They may have all passed away by now. For their own safety they wouldn't have passed the story to their children. It ruined many lives, a memory no one wishes to relive.”
“I see.” Kagome sighed.
“Why don't you go rest? You seem very tired.” Kaede said. “The hut is always open to you and your companions.”
“Thank you very much Kaede-sama. I think I will go to sleep. At least then I won't have to worry about Inuyasha's anger when he finds me.” Kagome smiled weakly. She hated leaving without him but she needed to know.
-------------------
Later that evening Kagome awoke to growling. She opened her eyes to see amber eyes glaring angrily at her. She could've sworn she saw a speckle of red in them, if only for a moment. She sat up and rubbed the sleep out of her eyes. “Inuyasha...” She said quietly.
“I can't believe you left without telling me!” Inuyasha growled loudly.
“I'm sorry, I just...”
“I don't want to hear your bullshit! You could've been in danger!” Inuyasha interrupted.
“But I wasn't-”
“It doesn't matter. The fact is you could've! I don't care if Sesshomaru said it would be safe! You should've never left my side!”
“I-”
“I said I don't want to hear it!” Inuyasha growled once again. “I don't want to hear your excuses! This won't happen again!”
Without another word Inuyasha left the hut knocking the paper door for the hut off. Kagome jumped up and ran outside but couldn't see him. She couldn't even tell which direction he went. She sighed. She didn't think Inuyasha would get this angry. Her stomach started grumbling and so she went to Kaede's hut.
“You guys are here too? Where's Shippo?” Kagome asked. Miroku and Sango were both sitting down near the fire eating soup that Kaede had made.
“We left him in Rin's care. We thought it best that he wasn't involved.” Sango said.
“Yes, and we were going to come here anyway so we decided to follow Inuyasha, although he didn't wait for us.” Miroku said. “He is very angry with you Kagome.”
“I know.” Kagome sat down and stared at the wood flooring. “I didn't think he'd be so angry. He didn't even let me speak.”
“I don't think he would. Inu youkai use silence as a punishment.” Sango said. “It's usually used on pups since they anger easily but since you don't know much of the mating rules I suspect he went a little easier on you.”
“How long does this go on?” Kagome asked.
“As long as he thinks it should. He'll lay down the rule once he feels that you've been punished enough.” Sango explained. “Could be anywhere from a few hours to a week or more.”
“Oh...” Kagome sighed. “You know more about inu youkai than I do and I'm mated to one...”
“Well there really was no time for him to explain anything, if he even knows anything. He did lose his memories so what he's doing now is based on instinct.” Sango said.
“I think I remember him saying that it all came back in a memory.” Miroku said. “One of the nights you girls were bathing.”
“So he's known for a while then?” Kagome asked. She put a hand on her forehead. “Oh everything is so confusing...Sango, do you think you could tell me more about inu youkai?”
“I can tell you what I know but there's no guarantee that it's right. I'm no inu youkai and I don't know much more from what I just told you.” Sango said. “All I know is that if he's angry its best to submit. If you go against him, that means your challenging his dominance and that's a great hit to his ego.”
“I guess I'll learn the rest of it through Inuyasha. I wonder where he went.” Kagome looked outside the hut.
“I'm sure he's close. He may be angry with you but he won't leave you unprotected. That's why he came here in the first place.” Miroku said. “It's best not to leave his side. You know nothing of your miko abilities or self-defense. Inuyasha on the other hand knows how to fight very well. Besides he is your mate.”
“I guess I should apologize when he gets back.” Kagome sighed. Even though she saw him moments ago she was starting to feel very lonely. Like he abandoned her instead of just giving her the silent treatment. Maybe this was what she was supposed to feel when she was being punished...All she knew was that she was never going to going to do that again.

Sorry the chapter was short. I thought this was a good ending. Hmm what should I have Inuyasha do now? I didn't want him to be abusive or anything because that's so not Inuyasha. But its not him if he were to let Kagome get away with what she did. Eh anyway hope you like it! Let me know what you think!
Oh and I wrote a short Inu/Kag fic because of my writer's block. I get writer's block on one story but end up creating a whole new one in that time. Strange how things work for me. Oh well check it out if you want!
