Chapter Seven: Double Date?

When they got home Kanaka was waiting for them with a snack of fresh made muffins and milk. “Wow, thanks Kanaka,” said Kagome sitting down at the table. Kikyou sat down too.
“So Kagome,” Kanaka asked smiling, “How was your first day of school?”
“It was okay,” Kagome answered. “Lunch there is a lot better than at my old school.” She gave Kanaka and Kikyou a rundown of her schedule.
“You have three classes with Inuyasha?” said Kikyou jealously.
“How do you know? I didn't mention any of my classmates,” Kagome said surprised.
“I have Inuyasha's schedule memorized.” Kikyou answered proudly. “You didn't tell mom that the second most popular guy in school asked for your phone number,”
“Really?” said Kanaka. “I'm glad you're making friends already.”
“Guess who asked me for my phone number,” said Kikyou smugly. She didn't wait for anyone to ask. “Inuyasha!” she squealed. “He stopped me in the hallway right before last block. He claims that he was asking for some boy, Kohaku or something, but I know he's interested in me.”
“Inuyasha?” said Kanaka. “Is that that boy you've been mooning over since the beginning of the year?”
“Mo-Om,” said Kikyou. “I don't moon. Anyway I've got homework to do. See you guys later.” Kikyou left the kitchen.
“I'm going to take a nap,” Kagome said getting up.
“Okay,” said Kanaka. “Oh, before you go, what's your favorite food Kagome?”
“Its oden,” said Kagome smiling dreamily. “I had some for lunch today.
“Oh, I guess you wouldn't want any for dinner then,” Kanaka said.
“Are you kidding? I could eat oden morning, noon, and night. Well I'll see you later,” Kagome went up to her room to lye down.
She was awoken an hour or so later by the phone ringing. “I've got it!” yelled Kikyou from somewhere in the house. Kagome seriously thought about going to sleep but decided to get up and do her homework instead. A few minutes later Kikyou banged on her door. “Come in,” Kagome called. Kikyou walked in with a mega-watt grin on her face. She covered the mouthpiece of the phone she was carrying and whispered,
“It's Inuyasha; he's calling to arrange a date!”
“Between you and him?” asked Kagome.
Kikyou made a face, “No, with that boy Ko- uh,”
“Kohaku?”
“Yeah that's it. Anyway Inuyasha want's to talk to you.”
“Really?” Kagome reached out to take the phone and Kikyou gave it to her reluctantly.
“Tell me when you're done talking,” said Kikyou as she walked out the door.
“Hello?” Kagome said putting the phone to her ear.
“Hey Kagome,”
“Do you need something?” she asked kind of rudely.
“Ouch,” Inuyasha chuckled. “So the queen has a temper.”
“I'm not in the mood to joke Inuyasha,” said Kagome.
Inuyasha sighed. “I know, look I'm sorry,” he said. “I didn't mean to lose my temper but Kouga had really been grating on my nerves already and I always get mad when some one brings up what happened.”
“You still had no right to lose your temper with me. How would I know since you won't tell me; unless you want to tell me now?”
“Didn't Kouga tell you?” Inuyasha asked.
“I didn't have the chance to ask.” Kagome admitted.
“Can't you just drop it? It's old news and it doesn't matter anymore.”
“You don't have to tell me if you don't want to,” Kagome said. “I'll just ask Kouga.”
“Kagome,” sighed Inuyasha.
“Hold on,” Kagome interrupted him. “I've got a beep.” She clicked over to the other line. “Hello?”
“Hey Kagome,” it was Kouga.
“Kouga, I was just thinking about you,” said Kagome.
“Really? I was thinking about you too,” said Kouga.
“Hold on a sec okay? I've got some one on the other line.”
“Okay,” Kagome clicked back to the first line.
“Inuyasha, could you call back later? I've got another phone call and I know Kikyou wants to finish talking to you.”
“Alright, bye Kagome,” he hung up and Kagome clicked back over.
“Hello?”
“I'm here,” said Kouga. “So there was something you wanted to ask me at lunch today. Were you going to ask me out on a date?” Kouga laughed.
“Well that's not quite it,” said Kagome.
“Darn, so what was it?”
“Well, I wanted to ask you what's going on with you and Inuyasha.”
“Me and Inuyasha? Well I'll keep it short. Inuyasha and I used to be great friends but a girl came between us; a girl that I loved and Inuyasha tried to take her from me. That is what ruined our friendship.” Kagome could hear someone in the background calling Kouga. “Kagome,” he started.
“Kagome,” Kikyou picked up the phone. “Are you done yet I want to talk to Inuyasha,” she said.
“Oh, I forgot to tell you, Inuyasha said he'd call you back. He's not on the phone anymore,” Kagome said.
“Oh, okay,” said Kikyou sulkily.
“Sorry that was my sister,” said Kagome.
“It's okay; I've got to get off the phone. I'll see you tomorrow.”
“Bye,” they hung up. Kagome worked on her homework until Kanaka called her for dinner. She finished one last problem on her trig homework then headed downstairs. Half way down the stairs the smell hit her and she floated into the kitchen on the fumes of oden. “That smells heavenly,” Kagome sighed blissfully as she sat down at the table.
“Well you said oden was your favorite,” Kanaka said smiling as she set a plate in front of Kagome. Souta and Kikyou already had their plates so Kanaka fixed her own plate than sat down between Kikyou and Kagome. They said grace and then tucked in. Kagome didn't speak until she'd eaten half her food.
“So Kikyou, who's this guy Inuyasha's trying to hook you up with? Kohaku?” Kagome asked.
“He's a sophomore; he's pretty cute too, but nothing like Inuyasha.” Kikyou answered.
“So are you going to go out with him?”
“Maybe,” Kikyou said. “I don't know.” For the rest of dinner Souta regaled them with tales of his day at school. After dinner Kagome helped wash the dishes then went to her room to finish her homework. A little while later Kikyou knocked and walked in.
“Can I talk to you?” she asked.
“Sure,” said Kagome taking off her earphones.
“This guy, Kohaku, I've been thinking about maybe going out with him. I mean, he's no Inuyasha, but who am I kidding? I'm a freshman; Inuyasha would never give me the time of day. But the thing is I've never been on a date before and I'm kinda nervous. I was wondering in maybe you'd come with me if I go?” She said the last sentence quickly.
“What? You mean like a chaperone?” asked Kagome.
“No, I mean like a double date,”
Kagome looked puzzled. “Did I alter something in your personality when I did your makeup? I thought you didn't like me?”
Kikyou made a face. “I guess you're okay,” she admitted grudgingly.
“Wow, said Kagome. “I'm honored. Sure I'd go with you; except I don't have anyone to double date with.”
“I'm sure Inuyasha wouldn't mind,” Kikyou said. “I've already heard rumors about you two.” Kikyou didn't look very happy about that.
“Inuyasha and I aren't really getting along at the moment, so I doubt it. “ Kagome said.
“Just ask him tomorrow? Please?” Kikyou pleaded.
“I'll think about it,” Kagome conceded.
“Thanks!” Kikyou left the room smiling.

A/N: C'est tout, I don't really have anything to say but ending a chapter without an author's note seems weird. Review plz!!!
